Kanye West Claps Back At Boosie Badazz’s Diss Over Influence Claim

HipHopWired Featured Video

Rolling Loud California 2024

Over the weekend, Ye FKA Kanye West had social media talking when he proclaimed that he influenced every aspect of music over the past 20 years on Big Boy TV.  While many fans either agreed or disagreed with the sentiment, some of his Hip-Hop peers have weighed in and have thoughts of their own.

Talking about his impact on the music game over the past two decades, Ye wasn’t shy about giving himself some flowers for the work he put in saying, “I invented every style of music of the past 20 years, I created the genre. I created Weeknd’s genre. Trav, Drake, everybody. I’mma go ahead and say with all love, Future and Thug also because the auto-tune album, 808s. Everybody thinks about Trav, Weeknd, and Drake but no one thinks about Future and Thug also. The auto-tune album. Now everyone, they added whatever it was to it. But here’s a new genre. It’s called making your own money genre. This music is called, like, take that middle man out.”

With many fans taking to social media and giving examples of artists he inspired or artists that carved out their lane, Boosie Badazz took to his IG page to rebuff Kanye’s claims and stated, “NOT BOOSIE MUSIC. YOU CAN’T RELATE TO NOTHING I RAP ABOUT R YOUR MUSIC. NOBODY LISTENS TO KANYE IN THE PROJECTS R THE TRENCHES IM, A GON HEAD N SAY IT ‘ MY PEOPLE DO NOT RELATE TO YOU.’”

With a little time to spare, Kanye decided to respond to Boosie’s take and simply said “I JUST SAW THAT WIPE ME DOWN WAS MADE IN 2007… I TAKE NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR WHATEVER THAT GENRE WOULD BE CALLED.”

This is lowkey hilarious but at the same time unnecessary because we don’t want to see these men beefing over trivial things like this.

Boosie has yet to respond to Ye’s disownment of Badazz’s genre of music but if he does you can bet he won’t be holding his tongue as BB knows how to talk that ish when he has a bone to pick with someone. Kid Cudi meanwhile responded to Kanye’s claims by taking to Twitter and posting a screenshot from his own Wikipedia page which states that Cudi was the inspiration for Ye’s 808s & Heartbreaks.

Ye has yet to respond to the post but knowing him, he’ll eventually say something at some point either directly or indirectly.

What do y’all think of this situation? Much ado about nothing? Is Ye right about influencing every genre since coming into the game? Let us know in the comments section below.

Cardi B Teams Up With Keith Lee to Share Thoughts on This Los Angeles Burger Joint

Cardi B isn’t one to mince words when it comes to her opinion on food, as she’s dissed the Los Angeles restaurant scenein the past.

The “Bodak Yellow” rapper fittingly teamed up with viral food critic Keith Lee on Sunday (March 17) to give a review of the Easy Street Burgers L.A. location. “You guys know how I feel about L.A. food. It’s not my favorite, but I got a good recommendation about this place,” said Cardi.

“Since this person recommended this place, if I don’t like it I want to tell this person in their face that I don’t like it,” she began before bringing in Lee. “I’m like a real big burger expert so if I don’t like it I’m going to tell you in your face.”

Cardi fancies herself as a burger connoisseur and explained that her expectations are high since she just had some of the best burgers she’s ever tasted during a recent Colombia trip.

Trending on Billboard

She compared Easy Street’s jalapeño monster burger to a “fancier Shake Shack” as she enjoyed the presentation of it. Cardi dished out a nine out of 10 rating for the smashburger. “This taste like a chopped cheese,” Cardi B told the former MMA fighter, comparing it to the classic NYC sandwich. “This taste like a healthier Shake Shack. They made it with love.”

Not the biggest fan of having bacon mixed with her burgers, the Bronx native wasn’t as impressed with the bacon grill onion burger option, which she gave a seven out of 10 after a couple of bites.

“I give this one a second you gotta be a bacon lover — the bacon is too much,” she added.

Cardi B is doing it all in 2024. The 31-year-old turned up the heat on the music side with a pair of singles to kick off the year. The Billboard Hot 100 top 40 hit “Like What (Freestyle)” and “Enough (Miami)” both arrived earlier in March as it’s full steam ahead toward her anticipated sophomore album.

Athena Jett Moves Forward on ‘American Idol’ Thanks to Her Secret Weapon Little Sister

Sometimes all you need is that little extra push from someone who knows how special you are. On Monday night’s (March 17) audition episode of American Idol, 20-year-old Las Vegas native Athena Jett came in with confidence and a voice that should have at least gotten her a look from judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

But, just in case, she also had her adorable 12-year-old sister (and bestie) Angelina in tow to help boost her chances with good energy and a special homemade gift for Perry’s four-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Daisy Dove. Angelina proudly handed over a crocheted pink and white purse covered in a daisy pattern, naturally, with Perry loving the sweet gesture and hugging Angelina, saying Daisy definitely “loves a purse.”

In the lead-up package, Athena talked about how close the sisters are and how Angelina is her “biggest fan… she’s such a bright ball of energy and she believes in me so much.”

Trending on Billboard

Perry then invited Angelina to stand by the piano as Athena sang a somewhat shaky version of Sophia James’ jazzy 2021 ballad, “Somebody New.” Angelina was brought to tears, as was Bryan, with Perry praising the singer’s “great voice,” but saying that Athena’s nerves appeared to get the best of her. “People are out there fighting tooth and nail and so I am worried about putting you in the ring,” Perry said.

Then, unexpectedly, Angelina sheepishly raised her hand — as she and Athena shared whispered “I Love You”‘s to each other across the room — and asked if she could suggest a different song for her sibling to sing. “I don’t want to be barging in or anything, but I remember for piano recital my sister sang ‘Never Enough’ from The Greatest Showman. I really think that that was a really good song that she sang,” Angelina said.

Perry repeatedly encouraged Athena to raise her voice and sing it out loud as the singer hit a series of high notes during her second go and Perry jumped to her feet, sweeping Angelina up in a giant spinning hug. “Good job, you’re gonna come to Hollywood too,” Perry said as she shook Angelina’s hand.

“I couldn’t do this without her,” Athena said to the weeping panel, as Perry said that she went from a “hard no” to a “what the hell was that? That was phenomenal. You have to use that. That is your sword!” Bryan praised a crying Angelina for being so brave and stepping up to advocate for her sister, after which the weepy Angelina handed over the golden ticket to her overwhelmed big sis.

Diddy Pulls Up To Kanye West’s ‘Rolling Loud’ Set In LA

HipHopWired Featured Video

BET Awards 2022 - Show

With all the turmoil P. Diddy’s been embroiled in as of late, it doesn’t seem like he has many people wanting to associate with him in public these days. With that being the case it seems like Diddy has reverted to mending an old relationship with an equally polarizing Hip-Hop icon, Ye, formerly known as  Kanye West.

According to TMZ, Diddy made a rare public appearance over the weekend when he showed up at Rolling Loud in Los Angeles, and interestingly enough took in Kanye West’s set alongside his daughters, Jessie and D’Lila Combs.

The move comes two years after Diddy and Kanye West got into a very public spat after Diddy called Kanye’s “White Lives Matter” attire “tone deaf” during an interview on The Breakfast Club in 2022.

That in turn caused Kanye to lash out and not only post some personal text messages between the two men, but also led to Ye saying that Diddy was sent by the Jewish people to threaten him.

Ye really do be blaming a lot of sh*t on the Jewish community.

Still, it looks like Diddy might be willing to bury the hatchet as he popped up at Ye and To Dolla $ign’s Rolling Loud set which sounds like it was lackluster, to say the least.

Per TMZ:

Check out the vid … Diddy brought his whole crew to the set — he always rolls deep — and appeared to pull up as Ye’s and Ty Dolla $ign‘s “Keys To My Life” played over the speakers.

And Diddy made the evening a whole family affair … ’cause he was also spotted in the back/side stage area with his son Justin while watching the controversial performance.

The show certainly had people up in arms … ’cause instead of performing live, Kanye and Ty stood onstage and just played recordings of their songs — leaving lots of fans disappointed.

Unclear how Diddy felt about the show … or if he and Ye sat down for a conversation — ’cause they kinda gotta clear the air about their viral 2022 beef.

Seems like that set was a dud to be quite honest.

Regardless of how the show turned out, it was a very interesting move on Diddy’s part as one has to wonder if he wants to reconnect with Kanye or if it was just a family outing for the sake of family time.

What do y’all think of Diddy attending Kanye’s set at Rolling Loud? Let us know in the comments section below.

8th Annual Blue Jacket Fashion Show - Arrivals & Backstage

Don Lemon is back on the airwaves with a new eponymously named show that was first thought to be an exclusive deal with the X platform and is now streaming everywhere. In a new interview, the veteran broadcaster shared some details of his fallout with CNN, his conversation with X honcho Elon Musk, and more.

Don Lemon exclusively spoke with PEOPLE about the new show, returning to CNN to tell his side of things regarding the Musk conversation, and what he hopes to do with his new show. Hip-Hop Wired has seen the first episode of the revamped The Don Lemon Show, which is currently live on YouTube, and DSPs such as iHeart and Spotify.

From PEOPLE:

PEOPLE: And now you are on a new trail, with a new show.

LEMON: Like I said at the Time 100 gala, “I wanted to do something that scares me.” I’ve had this sort of idea swimming around in my head. I’ve always known that the future was going to be in streaming and it was going to be on these small device. Whether I had left CNN or not, that’s what I was going to lean into. To talk about things that are in the zeitgeist, to put issues out there that may not be handled or at least platformed on traditional broadcast television. I have the opportunity to talk a lot longer without having to rush to get to commercial breaks. I can do real conversations and I don’t have to be concerned about what you say, is it advertiser friendly, does it have to be sanitized? I don’t have to worry about that. I can have real conversations.

Eddie Vedder Says Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Reminded Him of ‘Punk Rock Crowds’

Don’t let the setlist of back-to-back pop hits, sparkly costumes or confetti cannons fool you — Taylor Swift‘s Eras Tour is totally punk rock, as certified by Eddie Vedder in a recent piece.

The Pearl Jam frontman marveled at the magic of the pop star’s global trek, which he attended in July with one of his daughters, in a Mojo piece published Friday (March 15). “The craziest thing was it reminded me of punk rock crowds, of being aligned with all of the misfits in our town, back in the day,” he told the publication. “It was galvanizing and powerful.”

Vedder, who shares daughters Olivia and Harper with Jill Vedder, was spotted with his family at one of Swift’s concerts in Seattle last summer. The rock star’s wrists were filled with friendship bracelets from nearby fans, and he appeared to wear a shirt that said, “It’s me, hi, I’m the father it’s me.”

Trending on Billboard

“The run-up to it, making friendship bracelets with her and the generosity of these young girls and boys…,” he added. “Trading these bracelets with different messages on them – lyrics, song titles, just acts of good will on these little bracelets. They had found their tribe; they were all agreeing on something.”

The “Society” singer’s comments came just two days shy of the one-year anniversary of the Eras Tour‘s opening night in Glendale, Ariz. on March 17, 2023. Since then, Swift has taken her show all across North America, as well as through parts of Asia and Australia.

The “Anti-Hero” singer closed out a string of performances in Singapore earlier this month. She’ll now take a two-month pause from touring as she prepares to release her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, on April 19.

“Just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who traveled and put so much effort into being at our shows,” Swift wrote in an Instagram post March 10. “What an unforgettable way to end this leg of the tour!!”

She added, “In the meantime I’ve got an album to release…”

Usher, Fantasia Barrino & More Win Big At The 55th NAACP Image Awards

HipHopWired Featured Video

55th NAACP Image Awards - Show

The 55th NAACP Image Awards concluded over the weekend and the stars were there in all their revelry as expected. Usher, Colman Domingo, and Fantasia Barrino were among the winners, which featured several nods for The Color Purple.

The NAACP Image Awards took place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, Calif. last Saturday (March 16) and was hosted expertly by Queen Latifah. For those unaware, the ceremony highlights entertainers and performers across several genres which include television, film, music, and also podcasting.

Usher was named the Entertainer Of The Year and gave a moving acceptance speech that looked back over his three decades as a performer and how he’s grown with his fans. The singer also mentioned his recent marriage, how his mother was instrumental in his rise, and also his popular Las Vegas residency gig. Oprah Winfrey announced the award, which was a surprise for attendees.

Speaking of Winfrey, The Color Purple earned several awards throughout the night as Fantasia Barrino took home the Outstanding Actress in a Motion Picture for her role in the musical. Winfrey, cleverly decked out in purple, was the executive producer for the 2023 film alongside Steven Spielberg. The Outstanding Motion Picture award also went to The Color Purple.

Taraji P. Henson, who has been outspoken about pay inequity for women in Hollywood, took home the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture award for her role in The Color Purple. The film also took home the Outstanding Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture award.

Colman Domingo was a two-award winner, taking home the Outstanding Actor in a Motion Picture for his role in Rustin, and the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for The Color Purple. Domingo was also nominated for Entertainer Of The Year.

7 Must-Hear New Country Songs: Kacey Musgraves, ERNEST, Jelly Roll & More

This week, Kacey Musgraves offers up a superb, folky ballad from her album Deeper Well, while ERNEST teams with the ubiquitous Jelly Roll for a new track, and Cyndi Thomson returns with “The Georgia in Me.” See all these and more Billboard picks for the week’s best new country below.

Kacey Musgraves, “The Architect”

A sublime track from her new album Deeper Well, “The Architect” marks one of the project’s high-water marks. Softly hypnotic and well-written, this song questions whether life’s zeniths, nadirs and turns along the way are orchestrated or happen randomly. “I don’t understand, are there blueprints or plans?
Can I speak to the architect?” she sings. Written by Musgraves with longtime collaborators Shane McAnally and Josh Osborne, this deeply-felt track marks another musical triumph.

ERNEST feat. Jelly Roll, “I Went to College/ I Went to Jail”

Trending on Billboard

Country music has a storied tradition of artists nodding to their own less-than-shining moments that become central parts of their legend and legacies, from Haggard’s “Mama Tried” to George Jones’ “No Show Jones.” ERNEST and Jelly Roll are both Nashville natives and on this collaboration, they detail their unconventional journeys to stardom, from ERNEST dropping out after a year of college and Jelly Roll’s evolution from jail cell to CMA Award-winning artist. Along the way, they both paid their music industry dues, too.

“Who came out on top/ Hell, it’s hard to tell,” they sing triumphantly, bolstered by a flourishing of steel guitars, fiddle and piano. Jelly even shouts out the location of the criminal justice center that is central to so much of his story. ERNEST wrote the song with Chandler Paul Walters, Luke Bryan and Rivers Rutherford., and “I Went to College/ I Went to Jail” will be found onERNEST’s upcoming April 12 album Nashville, Tennessee.

Cyndi Thomson, “The Georgia in Me”

In the two decades after releasing her debut album My World, earning the Country Airplay-topping hit with “What I Really Meant to Say” and then opting to leave her role as a recording artist behind, this Georgia native has released music sporadically. Her soft-edged, dusky vocal drawl is still as potent as a Southern magnolia, and front and center on her first new music since 2016, with this song she wrote with Paul Sikes (“Wildflowers and Wild Horses,” “Make Me Want To”). She reminisces about teenage summers spent on red dirt roads, filled with fun-loving Saturday nights and glory-giving Sunday mornings, with the song also nodding to another Georgia-born country singer, Trisha Yearwood. This sweet-yet-sutry sounding track is a solid addition to Thomson’s too-brief musical canon.

Matt Koziol, “I Was”

The age-weathered rasp in Koziol’s voice lends a veritable air to this blues-country track, as he reminisces about his former days of flying too fast down an unhealthy road and all the times he was “at the top of the prayer list” and the “reason for the last call.” The understated piano and percussion lend an oak-wood warmth to Koziol’s crackling fire of a voice. This track, which Koziol wrote with Kenton Bryant, is from Koziol’s upcoming April 5 album Last of the Old Dogs, which follows his 2022 project Wildhorse and 2023’s deluxe version Wildhorse (Barrel Aged).

Ben Rector and Hailey Whitters, “Color Up My World”

This quirky, feel-good love song manages to nod to Pat Green, Bob Ross and turquoise nudie suits in the span of just over two minutes. On this banjo-flecked track, Rector’s vocal balances both quick-wit and charisma, while Whitters’ smooth twang is the sweetener.

Madison Hughes, “Hate that You Love Me”

The Voice alum Hughes broke through last year with the country tune “I Need a Drink.” Her latest dips further into the blues realm than straight-forward country, and becomes a towering testament to both Hughes’ adroit guitar skills and the purring vocal. Her voice is world-weary, her guitar tones threaded with angst, as she offers up a relatable tale of falling headlong for a charismatic heart-breaker. The immensely talented Hughes is on a star-making trajectory.

Riley Green, “Way Out Here”

Before Keith Urban offered a nod to three “Johns” in “John Cougar, John Deere and John 3:16,” singer-songwriter Josh Thompson paid homage to his own trio of icons named John — Johnny Cash, John Wayne and John Deere — in his top 20 Hot Country Songs hit from 2010. Now, Riley Green offers up his own rendering of Thompson’s hit. “We don’t take a dime if we ain’t earned it/ When it comes to weight, brother we pull our own,” Riley sings. His take is more subdued, with slightly moodier production, on this 15-year-old song about defending rural living, but he delivers this track with plenty of heart.
