“La Cumbia Triste” rolls to No. 1 on Regional Mexican Airplay boosted by a 13% gain in audience impressions, to 7 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending April 4, according to Luminate. As “La Cumbia Triste” seizes the throne on Regional Mexican Airplay, Los Ángeles Azules adds their fourth career No. 1. Further, they extend its span of hits to 24 years, dating to the the cumbia sonidera group’s first week at No. 1 on Feb. 3, 2004, when “El Listón De Tu Pelo” commenced a seven-week reign. As Los Ángeles Azules collection of champs grows, here are their Regional Mexican Airplay chart-toppers:

Peak Date, Title, Artist, Weeks at No. 1
Feb. 5, 2000, “El Listón De Tu Pelo,” seven
Jan. 26, 2019, “Nunca Es Suficiente,” featuring Natalia Lafourcade, three
May 20, 2023, “Tú Y Tú,”with Cazzu & Santa Fe Klan, one
April 13, 2024, “La Cumbia Triste,” with Alejandro Fernández, one

Fernández, meanwhile, collects his eighth No. 1, and first through a collaboration in almost two years, since “Nunca Dudes en Llamarme,” with La Arrolladora Banda El Limón de René Camacho, ruled for one week in Sept. 2022. In between, “No Es Que Me Quiera Ir” and “Difícil Tu Caso” led for one week each last August and November, respectively.

In total, two other co-billed songs from Fernández have topped Regional Mexican Airplay: “Decepciones,” with Calibre 50 (one week, Oct. 2020) and “Duele,” with Christian Nodal (one week, April 2021).

“La Cumbia Triste” will appear on Los Ángeles Azules’ forthcoming 30th studio album, Se Agradece, to be released April 12. Two other top 10-charting songs previewed the project: “Tú y Tú,” with Cazzu and Sant Fe Klan, an equal Regional Mexican Airplay winner, for one week in charge (May 2023) and “El Amor de Mi Vida,” with Maria Becerra, which nearly missed the penthouse, reaching No. 2 last October.

The news arrives in midst of Los Ángeles Azules’ 31-date El Amor De Mi Vida tour which kicked off in Nashville, TN. on Feb. 13 and will take the Mejía Avante family to a double booking on Napa County, CA on June 1-2.

Beyond its Regional Mexican Airplay coronation, “La Cumbia Triste” rebounds to its No. 5 high on the overall Latin Airplay chart (lifts 9-5) thanks to a 12% gain, to 8 million.

Conan Gray Reveals What Made Him Realize ‘I Have to Live My Life’

Last week, pop star Conan Gray released his vibrant third album Found Heaven — and soon before, he stopped by Billboard News to discuss everything from falling in love for the first time to working with Max Martin to bring that feeling to life.

“It very much affected how I made the music,” says Gray, who also shares that “this whole album is highs and lows.”

He says he started the ideation process during his Superache Tour nearly two years ago. As he recalls, after each performance he would retreat to the basement “because there’s always a piano in the basement of these theaters I was playing… that’s when I would notice these different themes I was writing about.”

He later tapped the MXM songwriting and production crew of Max Martin, ILYA and Oscar Holter to help flesh those various themes out, saying they “really opened up my eyes and wings to all of the different sides of myself that I could try out. … They wanted to push me to do something that was the whole array of me.”

And while Found Heaven does boast power-pop hits like “Never Ending Song” and “Lonely Dancers,” the album also features more intimate songs like “Forever With Me,” album closer “Winner” and standout track “Alley Rose.” As Gray says, “When I first recorded [‘Alley Rose’], I recorded it in the same voice as the rest of the album, a bit more energetically. And then I was like, ‘Wait, I need to not do that. I need to sing it as calm and tender as possible — each song requires a different part of me. … I feel lucky that people give me the space to do both.”

Gray also opened up about the love that inspired much of this album — and the heartbreak he had to process soon after. As he tells it, after flying to London for their scheduled meet-up, he landed to a text ultimately ending the relationship. And yet, he wouldn’t change a thing about his experiences surrounding Found Heaven — and his necklace of a star cutout inside a teardrop is a reminder of exactly that.

“In all the things that make you cry, the happiest moments of your life and the saddest moments of your life, there is a magic in the fact that you even got to experience it at all,” says Gray. “I’ve spent so many years of my life hiding in my room and not doing anything and being so afraid of ever getting hurt or rejected or feeling bad, that I ended up living no life. I kept this on my neck the whole time I was making this album [as a reminder] that I have to live my life.”

Watch Lady Gaga & Joaquin Phoenix in First ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Trailer

Joaquin Phoenix‘s Joker has found his Harley Quinn.

The first trailer for the much-anticipated sequel Joker: Folie à Deux, co-starring Lady Gaga as the infamous henchwoman, arrived Tuesday night (April 9).

“I’m nobody,” Gaga’s Harley tells Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck when they meet in the trailer, with a sweeping version of the 1965 Hal David and Burt Bacharach classic “What the World Needs Now Is Love” playing in the background. “I haven’t done anything with my life like you have.”

While “Love” is the only song we hear, we see the visuals of what appears to be multiple musical moments throughout the trailer. “We use music to make us whole, to balance the fractures within ourselves,” we hear Steve Coogan’s character say in voice-over.

Phoenix acknowledges his relationship with Gaga’s character in a separate scene with Coogan, saying, “I’ll tell you what’s changed: I’m not alone anymore.”

Trending on Billboard

In addition to Gaga, Phoenix and Coogan, the film also stars Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), Catherine Keener (Incredibles 2) and Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin).

Variety previously reported that the Todd Phillips-directed film is “mostly a jukebox musical” that integrates at least 15 reinterpretations of “very well-known songs” and could contain one or two original soundtrack songs as well. The publication added that the film is expected to “break the mold of traditional musicals.”

Earlier in the week, fans got a first listen of Gaga’s voice as Harley Quinn. “You’re Joker… you can do anything you want,” the star is heard saying over a series of TikTok photos from the upcoming movie, including one of the Joker and Harley in a loving embrace with “the world is a stage” written across the top.

Folie à Deux follows the 2019 psychological thriller, Joker. The film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards in 2020, with Phoenix winning best actor and Hildur Guðnadóttir winning best original score.

Joker: Folie à Deux is out Oct. 4. Watch the first trailer below.

Taylor Swift teases eclipse-themed lyrics from her upcoming album, ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ while her ex Calvin Harris’ wife reveals she listens to Taylor Swift when the DJ isn’t around. J. Cole apologizes to Kendrick Lamar at Dreamville Fest after releasing “7 Minute Drill,” a response to Kendrick Lamar’s verse on “Like That.” JT has been fighting with everyone including her fellow City Girls member Yung Miami after trading blows with GloRilla. Bryson Tiller opens up about his new self-titled album, Billboard explains Future’s chart success ahead of his and Metro Boomin’s second collab album ‘We Still Don’t Trust You’ and Conan Gray tells us about his new album ‘Found Heaven.’

We talk about Taylor’s new music and how her exes’ wife is listening. While Conan Gray chats Olivia Rodrigo with us. We sat down with Bryson Tiller, the City Girls are fighting while JT has her own beef with GloRilla and J. Cole responds to Kendrick’s diss and are going in depth on Future. This is Billboard News for Tuesday April 9th, here’s three things you need to know in Hip-Hop. Is everything okay with the City Girls? Miami called out JT online for sneak dissing her on solo songs she said, “For you to come on here and try to play the victim is crazy, Jatavia you have been sneak dissing me for the last couple of days a b*tch trying to kick me, while I’m down and play into these narratives is dangerous when I’ve been nothing but a friend to you.” JT responded “Oh Wow, you’re really losing it. If you thought this why not speak to me about it., attention seeking as usual,” but Miami eventually said she wants what’s best for JT and they hopped on the phone and both said “I love you” in a post on X. We love a happy ending. But will it be that for JT and GloRilla? Why did you feel the need to pop up on JT so hard? After releasing a track where she called for rap girls unity. JT called GloRilla corny, and so many exchanges went down with both of them calling each other “ugly” and Glo saying, “What you want me to say I didn’t slap you but I hit you with a purse instead.” But J. Cole is calling for peace after exchanges with him and Drake and Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole took to the stage with Amazon at ‘Dreamville’ Fest and ended it all.

WWE Breaks Multiple Records With WrestleMania 40

WrestleMania weekend 2024 is officially in the books and while the WWE isn’t as massively popular as it was in the late ’90s, it still made history as the highest grossing event in company history.

According to Variety, WrestleMania 40 broke all kinds of company records. It’s been dubbed their most successful live event ever as fans tuned in to see Cody Rhodes defeat all odds and “Finish The Story” by taking the WWE Undisputed Championship from Roman Reigns in a classic main event Sunday (April 7). With anticipation for the moment building over the past few years, wrestling fans made sure they were in attendance and were watching from home to witness the dream come true for the American Nightmare and helped the WWE make some historic gains in the process as well.

Variety reports:

WrestleMania 40 took place over two nights at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA. Per WWE, the gate for the event was up 78% compared to the previous record set during WrestleMania 39, with 145,298 in attendance across both nights this year. The company also says viewership was up 41% versus last year, while merchandise sales — in partnership with Fanatics — was up more than 20% over last year.

But the live events on Saturday and Sunday nights are just one part of the story. WWE set up a massive presence in Philadelphia from Thursday-Monday. The company hosted the WWE World experience at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, where fans could pay to get up close with authentic WWE memorabilia from their archives as well as take part in immersive experiences. This was coupled with the WWE Superstore, which featured a wide range of branded merchandise from apparel to toys and beyond.

Couple that with the 660 million views that were generated across WWE’s social channels and the WWE YouTube channel hitting 67 million views in 24 hours on Sunday, and you have a recipe for massive success.

Though the WWE has their work cut out for them if they plan on topping these numbers with WrestleMania 41, it may once again center around Cody Rhodes as it seems like they’re setting it up for Rhodes vs. The Rock. The Peoples Champion alluded to wanting to take the gold from Cody on Monday night’s episode of RAW. There’s also rumors that The Rock would be challenging his cousin, Roman Reigns, but at this point it’s anyone’s guess what route the shot callers at the WWE will go for WrestleMania 41.

What do y’all think? Who should main event WrestleMania 41? Let us know in the comments section below.
