Donald Glover Addresses Rumored Kid Cudi Tension: ‘I’m Not Here for the Beef’

Beef is the flavor of the month in hip-hop these days. With feuds simmering across the genre, Donald Glover decided to clear the air on his rumored tension with Kid Cudi.

Glover briefly addressed the Cudi feud on Sunday night (April 14) during an Instagram Live stream with fans during which he was playing new music, but he doesn’t want there to be any static.

“Kid Cudi, if you got a problem, like, I’m not here for the beef,” he said. “Just like, talk to me. … ‘Cause it’s like we don’t have to agree on everything, but we also don’t have to be like, ‘When I see you, we have to wanna kill each other.’”

The “Redbone” artist added that “life is too short.”

It’s still unclear what the friction stems from, but some fans were convinced not everything was cool between the pair of multi-hyphenates when Cudi responded to a tweet asking him to work on a project with Glover or release their shelved “Warlords” collab, but he didn’t seem interested.

“I’m cool,” Cudder briefly wrote to a fan in February on X.

A fan asked, “You don’t f–k with Donald?” While another replied: “Cudi blink twice if you and childish gambino have secret beef.”

While the world waits to see if Cudi and Glover ever chop it up and get on good terms, the Mr. & Mrs. Smith actor revealed on the same livestream that he has a plan to drop two Childish Gambino albums this year.

The first is titled Atavista, which will serve as an updated edition of the 3.15.20 album that he dropped in 2020. 3.15.20 peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard 200 and featured guest appearances from 21 Savage, Ariana Grande and more.

The second project coming is the soundtrack to his upcoming movie, Bando Stone & The New World. A radio ad played during the stream teased the project’s arrival this summer via RCA.

“My fans are great and have been so patient and are starving — this album is for you guys,” he continued.

Glover also made an appearance at Coachella on Saturday night (April 13) during Tyler, the Creator’s headlining set. They performed IGOR‘s “Running Out of Time” together.

Fittingly, Tyler joked about how he used to dislike Glover until he released “Urn,” a favorite song of his.

“I used to hate that n—a. Seriously. I don’t know why, I gotta go to therapy to figure it out,” he said to the crowd. “But this n—a put this song called ‘Urn’ out … I was at conflict with myself, like … How could a n—a I hate so much make something so good?”

Gunna Says Everyone’s Been “Misled” About Snitching Allegations

Gunna RICO mugshot

For years now Gunna has been fending off allegations that he went Tekashi 6ix9ine on Young Thug and his YSL family and though he isn’t going to be taking the stand against his former crew in their upcoming RICO trial, fans are still torn on whether or not the rapper did allegedly snitch when he took a plea deal.

Now the rapper is looking to clear up any misconceptions about how he was able to dodge a five-year prison stint and regain his freedom in 2022 and in a recent interview with XXL, Gunna tried to explain that the general public has been misled about his Alfred plea which caused a few of his rap peers such as 21 Savage, Lil Baby and others throw darts at him for allegedly dropping dime.

Per XXL:

“None of those rappers, they’re not on the case,” Gunna told XXL. “They don’t know legally what’s going on.”

He added that he has talked “peacefully” to about “three or four of those guys,” but wouldn’t elaborate further.

“I definitely feel like everybody’s been misled,” Gunna added. “And like, you know, when you’re being misled, you got a choice to follow or make your own decisions. And that’s what is being shown right now. You’re being a follower or you’re being neutral to be like, ‘I don’t know what their business is or what they really got goin’ on.’”

Regardless of how his fellow Hip-Hop peers and fans might feel about his current street status, Gunna went on to release his first post-prison album, A Gift & A Curse in 2023 which further divided fans as many loved the album while others refused to listen to it based off principal. Still, the album went on to debut at number 3 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart and garnered more than 100 million streams for records off the album.

Obviously he still has support out on these streets.

With that being the case, Gunna went on Instagram to announce that his next album One Of Wun is on the way and though he didn’t give a release date, the reception in the comments have been mostly positive as his day-ones will remain in his corner. At least until someone like Young Thug comes out and confirms that Gunna did indeed become a turncoat. Should something like that that happen, who knows how the Hip-Hop community would react.

What do y’all think about Gunna saying people have been “misled” about his plea deal? Let us know in the comments section below.

Lady Gaga Choreographer Richy Jackson Talks Creating ‘Risque’ Dances for JoJo Siwa: ‘I’m Excited!’

JoJo Siwa‘s edgy new era might be all about charting a new path forward, but her “Karma” is bringing along some key players from her past. In a conversation with Billboard News, renowned choreographer Richy Jackson details how his approach to choreography has evolved since he first worked with the pop star more than a decade ago.

“I met JoJo on a show I was judging called Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition,” he recounts. “I think she was nine years old. Later on in her career, she was with Nickelodeon, she began doing Dance Moms with Abby Lee [Miller] and she started doing music on YouTube. I hadn’t seen her since that competition show, and I happened to run into her and her mom at Studio City, and her mom was like, ‘Would you ever wanna choreograph for JoJo?’ And I’m like, ‘Yes!’”

Siwa placed fifth on season two of Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition, and appeared on seasons five and six of Dance Moms from 2015 to 2016. In 2017, the multi-hyphenate signed with Nickelodeon, under whom she acted in various programs, released several children’s songs and starred in her own feature film, The J Team, which earned her a pair of Children’s and Family Emmy nods. On the Kid Albums chart, Siwa has logged three entries, reaching as high as No. 12 with 2019’s Celebrate.

“She was 13 then. Chroeographing for her then … she was very young, the songs were for kids, it was with Nickelodeon,” explains Jackson. “There [were] certain dance moves I could do and not do, certain hip moves couldn’t make it into the choreography because it was for kids. But now, that she’s in her ‘adult pop star’ era that we’re about to get into — now, it’s like the game is open. We’ve been laughing, ’cause I’m like, ‘Ah, now we can do this move and do that move!” It’s more risque, so I’m excited. She’s just one of those artist that I feel is the next generation’s big pop star, and she just goes for it, and I love that about her.”

Jackson, of course, is no stranger to helping pop stars express their risque side through dance. His credits include the bulk of Lady Gaga‘s acclaimed videography — including 2009’s VMAs-sweeping “Bad Romance” and 2017’s headlining sets at Coachella and the Super Bowl Halftime Show — as well as Katy Perry‘s “California Gurls” and, now, Siwa’s “Karma.”

Siwa launched “Karma” with a flashy, choreogrpahy-packed music video on April 5, with the intent to achieve a rebrand similar to that of Miley Cyrus during her controversial Bangerz era back in 2013. “The last song JoJo played for me was ‘D.R.E.A.M.,’” says Jackson. “It was very young, very kiddie. Once I heard [“Karma”] I was like, ‘Yes!’ It was so unexpected … to hear this vibe on her, I loved it.”

In his chat with Billboard News, Jackson also reflects on his experience bringing Gaga’s iconic dance moves to the gaming landscape via an A.I.-utilizing Fortnite collaboration, recalls learning that he would be choreographing the Super Bowl Halftime Show and discusses the impact of TikTok on the contemporary dance scene.

Richy Jackson Talks About Working With Lady Gaga, JoJo Siwa’s ‘Karma’ & More | Billboard News

Famed choreographer Richy Jackson shares his favorite moments of working with Lady Gaga on some of her most iconic music videos such as “Bad Romance,” “Telephone,” “Stupid Love,” and how they prepared for her Super Bowl performance; what working with JoJo Siwa was like for her song “Karma” and how he helped her matured into this new era; “Rain on Me” being used in Fortnite and what makes the collaboration with Fortnite one of a kind. He also teaches our host Tetris Kelly some of his famous choreography and more!

Tetris Kelly:
Hey, it’s Tetris with Billboard News, hanging out with choreographer extraordinaire Richy Jackson. What’s up, man?

Richy Jackson:
How’s it going?

Tetris Kelly:
It is going well. I’m so happy to get into this dance conversation with you and maybe dance a little bit as well.

Richy Jackson:
Yes, we got to do that, Tetris.

Tetris Kelly:
Let’s talk about Fortnite, Lady Gaga, this whole experience. Talk to me as if I’m an idiot. What is Fortnite and how do we incorporate Lady Gaga into this game?

Richy Jackson:
OK, so truth be told, this is my first time ever experiencing Fortnite.

Obviously, I’ve heard about Fortnite — it’s been a thing. I just never played it. My assistant, Ian, was literally laughing when this whole, like, experience happened because he said, “You don’t know what you’ve done. Like, you don’t even know what you’ve done right now.” And I was like, “I don’t,” so I was like, “I have to least play the game.”

So I played the game and it was interesting just, like, to see the skins of Lady Gaga and understand, like, the wrap — which are the weapons — and then I was like, “OK, when’s the dance happening?” So I’m watching the dance happen I’m like, “OK, yeah, this is it.” But Ian tells me, “Well, just letting you know that when you dance, you can’t dance safely because you can still get shot.”

Lupe Fiasco Put Any Rapper Who Wants To Test On Notice At Coachella

US-ENTERTAINMENT-MUSIC-RAP-ANNIVERSARY

Lupe Fiasco has long owned the distinction of being one of the sharpest lyricists in Hip-Hop, and also showed and proved that he is adept at the art of battle. During his set at Coachella over the weekend, the Chicago rapper put any rapper who wants to test his pen on notice in a defiant speech with folks online reacting in kind.

I’m going to break the wall here and state that I feel that Lupe Fiasco might very well be the best on-paper lyricist in modern Hip-Hop. Songs like “Mural,” “The Cool” and countless others demonstrate his immense ability as a writer but also reveal the deep layers of his skillset.

As I’ve written about before, the quick back-and-forth between him and Royce Da 5’9 was largely ended by an inspired Lupe Fiasco on the track “Steve Jobs: SLR 3 1/2” which I still believe was largely freestyled or, at the very least, delivered in one take. Everyone should know and understand that Lu is a dangerous MC if one is a student of this game.

During a pause at his set at Coachella, Lupe addressed the crowd as only he could and let off a profanity-laced barrage by saying that under no uncertain terms can any rapper on the planet take him out when it comes to rhyming.

“Hear me clearly when I say this and I mean it from the bottom of my heart. When it comes to this art, and I quote, I will battle any motherf*cking rapper. Anywhere. Any motherf*ckin’ time,” Lupe said to an uproarious crowd.

This declaration from Lupe has the culture in a bit of a daze considering the mock meat shenanigans between Drake, Rick Ross, J. Cole, and Kendrick Lamar with K-Dot the only one putting a strong bullet on names while the antics are front and center from everyone else. Even proponents of battle rap culture like Aye Verb got involved and seemingly called out Lupe via X but that was shut down somewhat quickly.

However, Lupe did join Aye Verb in a Twitter Spaces conversation and explained his position on Kendrick Lamar and other rappers.

On X, we’ve got some reactions to Lupe Fiasco putting the game on notice, Aye Verb’s Twitter Spaces chat, and more.

Taylor Swift Mural Appears in Chicago With Cryptic QR Code Message About ‘Tortured Poets’

A cryptic mural teasing Taylor Swift‘s fast-approaching new album The Tortured Poets Department has appeared in Chicago, complete with an enormous QR code that leads fans to an error message on the pop star’s YouTube channel.

A group of painters was still working on the mural as of Monday (April 15), brushing the black-and-white piece onto the side of a building in the River North district of the city. Fan photos of the installment show a large QR code surrounded by partially faded lines of code that, upon taking a closer look, appear to be made up of repeating “13”s and “TTPD”s, Swift’s lucky number and the initials of her new record, respectively.

But here’s the best part: Scanning the code with one’s phone leads viewers to an unlisted Short on Swift’s official YouTube page. Press “play,” and a message reading “Error 321” will appear onscreen, as if someone on a typewriter were spelling it out one character at a time.

Trending on Billboard

Arriving Friday (April 19), The Tortured Poets Department features 16 main tracks — two of which are collaborations with Post Malone and Florence + the Machine — and four bonus songs spread out across various deluxe editions of the album. Swift first announced the project while accepting best pop vocal for Midnights at the 2024 Grammys, shortly before which a similar “Error 321” message appeared on her website

The new mural is just the latest way the musician and her team have been getting fans excited for the arrival of Tortured Poets. Swift has also hidden one-word clues about the album in the lyrics to her older songs on Apple Music and unveiled five “Stages of Heartbreak” playlists on the platform, as well as launched a library installation in support of the record with Spotify in Los Angeles.

Beatles’ Original 1970 ‘Let It Be’ Movie Headed to Disney+ in Peter Jackson-Restored Print

Three years after he blew Fab Four fans’ minds with his The Beatles: Get Back series, director Peter Jackson is dipping back into his Beatle bag on May 8 with the re-release of Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s legendary 1970 documentary Let It Be.

The film chronicling the final days of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr will be available for the first time in more than 50 years when it airs exclusively on Disney+ on May 8.

According to a release, the film recorded during the midst of the group’s breakup “now takes its rightful place in the band’s history. Once viewed through a darker lens, the film is now brought to light through its restoration and in the context of revelations brought forth” in Jackson’s Emmy-winning 2021 docuseries.

Trending on Billboard

Let It Be was ready to go in October/November 1969, but it didn’t come out until April 1970. One month before its release, The Beatles officially broke up. And so the people went to see Let It Be with sadness in their hearts, thinking, ‘I’ll never see The Beatles together again. I will never have that joy again,’” director Lindsay-Hogg said in a statement. “And it very much darkened the perception of the film. But, in fact, how often do you get to see artists of this stature working together to make what they hear in their heads into songs. And then you get to the roof and you see their excitement, camaraderie and sheer joy in playing together again as a group and know, as we do now, that it was the final time, and we view it with full understanding of who they were and still are and a little poignancy. I was knocked out by what Peter was able to do with Get Back, using all the footage I’d shot 50 years previously.”

In fact, the restored Let It Be features footage that appeared Get Back, taking viewers into the studio and onto the Apple Corps London rooftop in Jan. 1969 for what would be the quartet’s final live performance. It also features the band in the studio writing and recording their Let It Be album. In the wake of the rapturous appreciation for Jackson’s series, and with Lindsay-Hogg’s support, Apple Corps asked Jackson’s Park Road Post Production team to restore Let It Be from the original 16mm negative, a process that also included the remastering of the film’s sound using the same MAL de-mix technology that was employed on Get Back.

“I’m absolutely thrilled that Michael’s movie, Let It Be, has been restored and is finally being re-released after being unavailable for decades,” said Jackson in a statement. “I was so lucky to have access to Michael’s outtakes for Get Back, and I’ve always thought that Let It Be is needed to complete the Get Back story. Over three parts, we showed Michael and The Beatles filming a groundbreaking new documentary, and Let It Be is that documentary – the movie they released in 1970. I now think of it all as one epic story, finally completed after five decades. The two projects support and enhance each other: Let It Be is the climax of Get Back, while Get Back provides a vital missing context for Let It Be. Michael Lindsay-Hogg was unfailingly helpful and gracious while I made Get Back, and it’s only right that his original movie has the last word…looking and sounding far better than it did in 1970.”

On Monday, prior to the announcement — and six months after the Fabs dropped what was billed as their final song, the melancholy “Now and Then” — the Beatles site teased “There will be an answer,” a lyric from 1970’s “Let It Be.” The post was accompanied by four blank frames positioned to resemble the Let It Be album artwork, as well as what seemed like a cryptic clue, “At last…” and the Disney+ and Apple Corps logos.

Though Let It Be premiered in movie theaters in 1970 and was released on home video formats in the early 1980s, it has never been officially issued on DVD, blu-ray or streaming.

Live Nation Will Soon Face DOJ Antitrust Lawsuit: Report

The U.S. Department of Justice is planning to sue Live Nation over alleged violations of federal antitrust laws, according to a report by the Wall Street Journal.

A lawsuit will be filed within weeks that alleges the concert giant leveraged its dominance over the live music industry to undermine competition for ticketing, the Journal reported Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Few other details about the planned case were revealed.

Live Nation has faced widespread criticism from angry fans and lawmakers since its botched handling of Taylor Swift’s “Eras” tour in 2022. Days after the incident, news broke that the DOJ had already been investigating Live Nation for months over potential antitrust violations.

Trending on Billboard

Representatives for Live Nation and the DOJ did not immediately return requests for comment from Billboard.

Since Live Nation and Ticketmaster merged in 2010, the company has long faced criticism that it exerts an unfair dominance over the market for live concerts. The DOJ approved the merger at the time, but imposed a so-called consent decree designed to prevent the company from abusing its position. Those restrictions were set to expire in 2020, but they were extended by five years after the DOJ accused Live Nation of repeatedly violating the decree.

That same criticism resurfaced in late 2022 with the disastrous roll out of tickets to Swift’s tour, which saw widespread service delays and website crashes as millions of fans tried – and many failed – to buy tickets.  Live Nation pinned the blame on a “staggering number of bot attacks,” but lawmakers quickly argued that the incident was the result of a market dominated by one company.

“Ticketmaster’s power in the primary ticket market insulates it from the competitive pressures that typically push companies to innovate and improve their services,” said Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.), the chair of the Senate subcommittee for antitrust issues.

In December 2022, the New York Times reported that DOJ had already been investigating Live Nation for months before the Swift debacle, including reaching out to venues across the country to ask about the company’s conduct. A year later, Reuters reported that the probe was ongoing, with federal investigators focusing on whether Live Nation imposed anticompetitive agreements on venues.

Last year, Live Nation hired Dan Wall, a veteran competition attorney who previously headed the antitrust practice at the law firm Latham & Watkins, as an executive vice president for corporate and regulatory affairs. In a blog post last month, Wall publicly defended the company against allegations similar to those that could be coming in the DOJ’s lawsuit, arguing that ticket prices were set by artists and driven up by the forces of supply and demand.

“In the ongoing antitrust attacks on Live Nation and Ticketmaster, a constant theme is that their alleged ‘monopolies’ are responsible for high ticket prices,” Wall wrote. “Rhetorically, that’s understandable, because if you want to rile up fans against Live Nation and Ticketmaster, there is no better way than to blame them for something you know fans dislike.”

Keanu Reeves Will Voice Shadow In ‘Sonic The Hedgehog 3,’ X Applauds The Perfect Casting

Keanu Reeves Will Voice Shadow In 'Sonic 3,' X Users Celebrate

It’s not often that we get perfect castings in films, but according to X, Paramount got this one right.

Multiple sources are telling The Hollywood Reporter that Keanu Reeves and his iconic voice will bring to life fan-favorite character Shadow The Hedgehog in the highly anticipated film Sonic 3.

The news first reported by The John Campea Show comes after Paramount had a strong showing at CinemaCon last week in Las Vegas, where attendees saw some early footage from Sonic The Hedgehog 3.

In the footage, attendees were happy to see that Jim Carrey is back as Dr. Robotnik, who is now depressed and overweight after being defeated by his long-time nemesis, Sonic.

Robotnik regains his mojo after creating Shadow, who is, in every sense, the dark version of the Blue Blur and has similar abilities.

Following a lackluster trailer that first introduced a hideous Sonic The Hedgehog design that Twitter bullied the studio into changing, the first movie raced into theaters in 2020, earning a whopping $319 million at the box office and becoming one of the last theatrical blockbusters right before the COVID-19 pandemic shut the world down.

Sonic 2 arrived in 2022, introducing more characters like Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba), earning $404 million.

Reeves continues to stay quite busy in Hollywood, most recently starring in John Wick 4, bringing back Neo in The Matrix: Resurrections, reprising his role as John Wick in the upcoming spinoff John Wick Presents: The Ballerina, and a role in Aziz Ansari’s Good Fortune.

Social Media Users Chime In On The Casting

Following the announcement, X, formerly Twitter, celebrates Reeves casting in the film.

“THIS IS GONNA BE THE GREATEST MOVIE OF ALL TIME RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH,” one X user wrote.

Another post read, “perfect casting.”

Some fans are disappointed because they wanted Star Wars star Hayden Christensen to voice Shadow.

If you ask us, this sounds like a win to us. You can see more reactions in the gallery below.
