Lana Del Rey & Camila Cabello Sing ‘I Luv It’ During Second Weekend of Coachella 2024

Lana Del Rey was joined by surprise guest Camila Cabello during her weekend two performance at Coachella 2024.

During her headlining set on Friday night (April 19), the “Summertime Sadness” songstress welcomed Cabello to the stage to sing her new track “I Luv It.”

After Del Rey temporarily left the stage following a performance of “Bartender,” Cabello emerged with backup dancers for a lively delivery of her hyper-pop collab with Playboi Carti (who didn’t make an appearance at the Indio. Calif., festival).

Del Rey mostly watched with admiration, but joined in on some of the verses and at one point placed her hands on Cabello’s waist and playfully spun her around.

“I luv it, I luv it, I luv it, I luv it,” Del Rey sang to Fifth Harmony alum after she closed the song. “This is my girl. I have so much fun with her. I love this song to death. Thank you so much, angel, for coming to sing with me.”

Trending on Billboard

Cabello replied, ”This is an honor me, you’re one of my favorite artists of all time. Thank you so much.”

In late March, prior to the release of “I Luv It,” Del Rey showed some love for the energetic single on social media. “i luv it,” the singer-songwriter captioned black-and-white photos of the “Senorita” singer on Instagram. Cabello took to the comments section of the post, leaving a series of crown emojis.

Del Rey’s weekend two performance at Coachella follows her guest-filled set at the popular music fest’s opening day on April 12. During the performance, she welcomed Jon Batiste for “Candy Necklace,” Jack Antonoff for “Hope Is a Dangerous Thing,” and duetted with Billie Eilish on “Ocean Eyes” and “Video Games.”

Del Rey’s roughly 90-minute Coachella set last weekend also boasted some truly stunning set design, a bizarrely alluring hologram moment, her trademark sultry vocals, a generous helping of faded glamour and even some stripper pole twirling by the singer herself for good measure.

Drake Takes Aim at Kendrick Lamar With AI Tupac & Snoop Dogg Vocals on ‘Taylor Made Freestyle’ Diss Track

Drake has dropped another diss tracking taking aim at Kendrick Lamar.

On Friday (April 19), the same day his “Push Ups” diss officially arrived on streaming services, the superstar rapper shared another fiery song through social media. On “Taylor Made Freestyle,” the 6 God uses AI verses in the style of West Coast hip-hop icons Tupac Shakur and Snoop Dogg to further taunt Lamar, who has not yet responded to his “Push Ups” diss.

“While we wait on you I guess,” Drake captioned the clip on Instagram.

“Taylor Made” opens with an artificial Shakur addressing the beef between K. Dot and Drizzy, which ignited with the Compton rapper’s scorching “Like That” verse that set the rap game on fire and remains at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Trending on Billboard

“Kendrick, we need ya, the West Coast savior/ Engraving your name in some hip-hop history/ If you deal with this viciously/ You seem a little nervous about all the publicity/ F— this Canadian lightskin, Dot/ We need a no-debated West Coast victory, man/ Call him a b—- for me,” the AI Pac raps.

The imagined Makaveli then offers Lamar advice on how to best approach a diss response.

“Talk about him liking young girls, that’s a gift from me/ Heard it on the Budden Podcast, it’s gotta be true,” the AI Shakur raps. “They told me the spirit of Makaveli is alive/ In the n—- under 5’5″, so it’s gotta be you/ I would beef the whole f—ing game.”

An artificial Snoop comes in on the second verse to further push K. Dot into firing back and Drake.

“You gotta show this f—ing owl who’s boss on the West/ Now’s a time to really make a power move/ ‘Cause right now it’s looking like you writing out the game plan on how to lose,” he raps. “World is watching this chess game, but are you out of moves?/ Dot, you know that the D-O-G never f—ing doubted you/ But right now it seem like you posted up without a clue of what the f— you ’bout to do.”

Drizzy saves the last verse for himself, claiming that his “Push Ups” diss “really only took me an hour or two” to write and “the next one is really ’bout to bring out the coward in you.” The 6 God then references Taylor Swift‘s just-released new album, The Tortured Poets Department, suggesting that Lamar’s lack of a response is due to the overwhelming press surrounding her latest project.

“But now we gotta wait a f—ing week ’cause Taylor Swift is your new Top/ And if you ’bout to drop, she gotta approve/ This girl really ’bout to make you act like you not in a feud/ She tailor made your schedule with Ant, you out of the loop,” Drake raps.

“Taylor Made Freestyle” is the follow-up to the Toronto MC’s “Push Ups” diss track, which surfaced online in mid-April and takes aim at Lamar, Future, Metro Boomin, The Weeknd, Rick Ross.

Drake Trolls Kendrick Lamar With A.I. Diss Cosplaying As 2pac & Snoop Dogg

Cleveland Cavaliers v Houston Rockets

Drake is currently on the offensive after officially dropping the “Push Ups” track, which aims at Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross, and Future. As the ongoing war of words continues, Drake pulled off what some online are calling a masterful stroke with an AI-rendered diss track aimed at Kendrick Lamar using the voices of Snoop Dogg and the late Tupac “2Pac” Shakur.

The AI-assisted track, titled “Taylor Made,” hit social media over the weekend with Drake posting the full audio across his socials. In the track, Drizzy uses AI to rap from the perspective of 2Pac and Snoop Dogg, using the iconic stars’ voices to coach K-Dot on how to diss the Canadian superstar.

From “Taylor Made”:

(As 2Pac)
Kendrick, we need ya, the West Coast savior
Engraving your name in some hip-hop history
If you deal with this viciously
You seem a little nervous about all the publicity
Fuck this Canadian lightskin, Dot
We need a no-debated West Coast victory, man
Call him a bitch for me
Talk about him liking young girls, that’s a gift from me
Heard it on the Budden Podcast, it’s gotta be true
They told me the spirit of Makaveli is alive
In the n*gga under 5’5″, so it’s gotta be you

Snoop Dogg’s voice is used for the second portion of the song with some of the bars reading:

Nephew, what the f*ck you really ’bout to do?
We passed you the torch at the House of Blues
And now you got to do some dirty work, you know how to move, right? Right?
I know you never been to jail, or wore jumpsuits and shower shoes
Never shot nobody, never stabbed nobody
Never did nothing violent to no one, it’s the homies that empower you
But still, you gotta show this f*cking owl who’s boss on the West
Now’s a time to really make a power move

As Drake keeps attempting to goad Kendrick Lamar into responding, it doesn’t appear that he had any more bars for Rick Ross after taking shots at his former friend via the “Push Ups” track.

Breaking the wall here and speaking for myself, I don’t have a strong opinion regarding who is winning this mock meat tussle. I just want to hear some bars from these great rappers and that it all stays on wax without getting weird or personal. Anything else is too toxic for me. There you have it, that’s my view of things so far. – D.L.

Reactions to Drake’s latest salvo have been cropping up since the drop of the “Taylor Made” freestyle. Check out the song and the reactions below. Also, it appears Snoop Dogg also reacted to the news. Check out that video too.

Blackstone Submits $1.5 Billion Takeover Bid for Hipgnosis Songs Fund, Rivaling Concord

Private equity giant Blackstone bid $1.5 billion to buy Hipgnosis Songs Fund on Saturday (April 20), marking a significant escalation in the fight for control of the troubled music royalty fund and its collection of rights to songs by Neil Young, Journey, Lindsey BuckinghamBlondie and others.

Blackstone is offering $1.24 per share in an all-cash offer that represents an 8.7% premium over the previous day’s closing share price, and is significantly higher than the $1.4 billion takeover bid that Nashville-based Concord Chorus made for the fund earlier this week.

Blackstone already owns two other entities under the Hipgnosis name — the private music assets investment fund Hipgnosis Songs Capital and the investment advisor Hipgnosis Song Management — and its bid on Saturday showed the private equity behemoth is willing to flex its muscle to maintain assets under the Hipgnosis umbrella.

Trending on Billboard

The five-year-old, London-listed Hipgnosis Songs Fund has cut its net asset value and shareholder dividends in recent months, as it struggled to address accounting errors and infighting between its board and investment manager that have angered investors already frustrated by an underwhelming stock price.

On Thursday (April 18), the board of directors announced in a filing with the London Stock Exchange that it had agreed to recomment a $1.402 billion proposed takeover bid from Concord to shareholders, which values each Hipgnosis share at £0.93 ($1.14). While the board said that institutional investors representing 30% of the fund’s outstanding shares were on board to vote in favor of the deal with Concord, it still needs shareholder approval from investors holding a total of 75% of shares.

Blackstone’s Hipgnosis Song Management, the investment adviser to the public fund and the private fund (Hipgnosis Songs Capital), has the right to outbid Concord and any other rival bidders to take the fund’s assets private, according to an option in its contract laid out when the fund went public in 2018.

The option was created with the sensitivities unique to music rights in mind. Hipgnosis Songs Fund was founded and built by Merck Mercuriadis, a longtime music executive and manager for artists like Elton John, Beyoncé and Guns N’ Roses. Mercuriadis used his relationships in the music industry to build the fund’s portfolio of rights to hit songs, and this option in the investment advisory contract was designed to give artists confidence that their catalogs would never trade hands — something that famously angered Taylor Swift.

However, since Hipgnosis Songs Fund investors served the board of directors the equivalent of a no-confidence vote last fall, this option has presented hurdles for the board in its effort to secure outside bids for the portfolio.

In its offer, which references Concord’s bid as $1.16 per share due to fluctuations in exchange rates, Blackstone said it “strongly encourages the board of Hipgnosis to recognise the significant increase in value available to all shareholders under the terms of its Fourth Proposal, over the $1.16 as set out in the Concord Offer, and to work with Blackstone to reach agreement on a unanimously recommended Firm Offer in an expeditious manner.”

In the mid-2010s, this new strain of corridos verdes blossomed, painting the town green. This verdant subgenre has taken root in the hearts and playlists enthusiasts, sprouting from the fertile soil of California and Northern Mexico’s cultural landscape. Its emergence coincided with the legalization of recreational marijuana in the Golden State in 2016.

While the exact origin of corridos verdes remains as hazy as a smoke-filled cantina, its modern cultivation can be traced back to the pioneering efforts of Legado 7, whose rhymes and rhythms first sowed the seeds of this genre. As the movement gained momentum, other notable figures like El Komander, Omar Ruiz, and Lenin Ramirez joined the green revolution, infusing their music with the aroma of marijuana culture and the spirit of defiance.

Taylor Swift Accepts Her Own ‘Fortnight’ Challenge by Sharing Cute Video of Travis Kelce Kiss, Her Cat Benjamin Button & More

Swifties might need at least a fortnight to recover from Taylor Swift‘s new YouTube Shorts video.

On Friday night (April 19), after the premiere of her “Fortnight” music video from her just-released Tortured Poets Department album, Swift took to the video-sharing platform to encourage fans to share their “fortnight recap” with the hashtag #ForAFortnightChallenge. A fortnight is 14 days, so the point of the video challenge is for fans to show highlights from a two-week span of time.

Swift herself got the ball rolling with her own #ForAFortnightChallenge video, and she shared quite a few fun glimpses into her life — both personal and professional. From the “Fortnight” set, we see a mirror video of her Post Malone face tattoos as well as a tongue-out selfie with co-star Ethan Hawke.

Highlights of the YouTube Short include a video of her cooking with boyfriend Travis Kelce as he steals a kiss and a belly-up shot of Swift’s youngest cat, Benjamin Button.

We also see her jamming out in the studio, signing autographs, working out, sewing floral fabric, icing cinnamon rolls, playing pickleball with a Kansas City Chiefs paddle while wearing a lavender tennis skirt, blowing out a smoke bubble on an elaborate cocktail and cheersing Aperol spritzes on a boat.

All in all, there are 14 individual scenes – one for each day of her song’s titual fortnight.

Watch the YouTube Short below:

Swift released her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, first thing Friday (April 19), following up the initial 16 tracks with 15 brand-new songs at 2 a.m. ET, for a surprise double album. Find Billboard‘s ranking of all 31 tracks here.

‘Swift’s Pen Floats on Lyrics Sharp to the Touch’: ‘The Tortured Poets Department,’ Reviewed by TikTok Star Jake Shane

Find his latest Billboard album review below, for Taylor Swift’s just-released The Tortured Poets Department album.

Taylor Swift, known for her vulnerability, has never been so vulnerable.

Trending on Billboard

First thing Friday (April 19), Swift welcomed us into The Tortured Poets Department, her earth-shattering 11th studio album. Except, upon arrival, listeners discovered it was more a graveyard than a classroom. The air is cold and filled with tension from ghosts of relationships past — each step inviting the listener  closer and closer into stories frozen in time. The end result is an album that feels like pages ripped from Swift’s diary loosely scattered across a frosty gravesite — each tomb sharing its own story of grief, loss and, in some instances, love.

Tortured Poets is undoubtably Swift’s most personal album to date — which, for Swift is a hard feat to beat. Through classic Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner production, Swift’s pen floats on lyrics sharp to the touch. This is especially true on the Dessner-produced track 5, “So  Long, London.” In it, Swift says goodbye to a relationship she gave everything for, but received no ROI. “My spine split from carrying us up the hill,” Swift proclaims; this is Swift at her very best, painting a photo of heartbreak so vivid that it almost feels like our bones are breaking too. Close listeners will notice the beginning of the track sounds similar to Swift’s love song “Call It What You Want” off her sixth studio album Reputation. Perhaps the most cutting lyrics, though, on “So Long, London” come in the second verse, when Swift admits her regret for holding on to the “sinking ship” that the relationship was: “I’m pissed off you let me  give you all that youth for free.”

One of Swift’s defining talents is how she builds a cohesive narrative throughout her albums, and here, that ability has never been more on display. On Tortured Poets, Swift walks the listener through a barren graveyard filled with withered bones and torn memories, only to finally reach sunlight — on the final two tracks of the album (not including the extra 15 songs that dropped at 2 a.m. ET), Swift has once again found love. On “The Alchemy,” Swift sings of a love so undeniable, she is returning to her old, pre-tortured ways: “I haven’t come around in so long. But I’m making a comeback to where I belong.”

As always, Swift’s lyricism shines bright (arguably brighter than ever before). This is notable on the absolutely devastating “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” where Swift looks in the rearview of a past relationship with more questions than answers. “You hung me on your wall. Stabbed me with your push pins. In public, showed me off. Then sank in stoned oblivion.” Swift’s pen is pointed, but, then again, when is it not? She doesn’t want to talk to said “man,” but she wants a message delivered: “You didn’t measure up in any measure of a man.”

On “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart,” Swift is at her most bare, detailing the heartbreak-turned -depression she faced while performing the biggest tour of her career (and perhaps of all time). “She’s having the time of her life there in her glittering prime. The lights refract sequin stars off her silhouette every night. I can show you lies,” Swift croons over a synth beat. Swift calls back to folklore’s “mirrorball” by proving once again that she can be anything we want her to be, even if it’s not true. It is one of the first times Swift has broken the third wall since the start of the record-breaking tour, and it is almost reassuring to listeners and fans alike. Taylor is human, too, even when her stardom questions the laws of physics.

One of the greatest tales Swift tells is that of heartbreak to healing; she did it on Reputation, and on Tortured Poets she has done it once more — this time, though, with more maturity and the clarity only age can bring. At the end of the album, Swift has once again found love and  forgiven heartbreak. It might not be her true love, but she’s happy — oh, and she’s Taylor Swift. Who can argue with that?

Morgan Wallen Responds to Chair-Throwing Arrest: ‘I’m Not Proud of My Behavior’

In a two-part response, the country superstar tweeted, “I didn’t feel right publicly checking in until I made amends with some folks. I’ve touched base with Nashville law enforcement, my family, and the good people at Chief’s. I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility…. I have the utmost respect for the officers working every day to keep us all safe. Regarding my tour, there will be no change. -MW”

Wallen was arrested and briefly jailed on April 8 after allegedly throwing the chair off the sixth-floor roof of Eric Church’s newly opened bar Chief’s, located on Nashville’s Lower Broadway. According to reports, the chair landed just feet away from two Metro Nashville police officers. Wallen was arrested and booked just after midnight and charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, posting a $15,250 bond to secure his release around 3:30 a.m.

Wallen’s attorney, Worrick Robinson of Worrick Robinson Law, confirming the arrest, told Billboard in a statement,  “At 10:53p Sunday evening Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities.”

The incident came just days after Wallen, 30, kicked off his 2024 One Night at a Time tour. The tour resumes Saturday night (April 20), at Oxford, Mississippi’s Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. The singer’s next court date in the incident is May 3; he is slated to play Nashville’s Nissan Stadium on May 2nd and 3rd.

Chief’s official Instagram account responded April 9, sharing a photo of a new sign outside the nightclub that read: “Our pigs fly, our chairs don’t.”
