Ashley Cooke Finds Her ‘Place’ in Country Airplay Top 10 & Sam Hunt Matches His Longest Reign

Ashley Cooke notches her first top 10 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart as “Your Place” rises from No. 11 to No. 9 on the list dated May 11. It advanced by 5% to 17.9 million audience impressions April 26-May 2, according to Luminate.

The song is the 26-year-old Parkland, Fla., native’s second Country Airplay entry and first on her own. She co-wrote it with Jordan Minton and Mark Trussell, and Jimmy Robbins produced it. Her rookie entry, “Never Til Now,” with Brett Young, reached No. 49 in December 2022.

Cooke’s current single is from her LP Shot in the Dark, which arrived at its No. 14 best on Billboard’s Heatseekers Albums chart in August 2023. She had a hand in writing 20 of the set’s 24 tracks.

Notably, “Your Place” marks the first initial top 10 for a female artist, with no billed collaborators, on Country Airplay in almost a year, since Megan Moroney’s “Tennessee Orange” hit No. 4 last June. Before that, the last woman to earn a first top 10 on her own was Tenille Arts with “Somebody Like That,” which reached No. 3 in May 2021.

Hunt Ties His Best

Sam Hunt’s “Outskirts” dominates Country Airplay for a career-best tying third week (29.1 million, down 8%). His 10th No. 1, and second multi-week leader, equals the three-week command of his 2017 crossover smash “Body Like a Back Road.”

Shaboozey Raises ‘Bar’

Shaboozey makes his Country Airplay debut as “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” enters at No. 53 with 993,000 in reach (up 740%). The song, which interpolates J-Kwon’s 2004 hip-hop classic “Tipsy,” combined to make history on the May 4-dated multimetric Hot Country Songs chart: As it hit No. 1, Shaboozey dethroned Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em,” marking the first time that two Black artists have led back-to-back since the survey became an all-encompassing genre ranking in 1958.

Zendaya’s Style Evolution, From 2010 to Now

The star has been serving up looks since her Disney Channel days.

Zendaya has been serving up game-changing looks since before she was even an adult, a fact that sometimes makes it difficult to remember that the California native is a world-class actress, singer and model in addition to being a modern fashion icon.

But alas, the accomplished multi-hyphenate has done it all — and has looked stunning while doing it. When she shows up to an event or a red carpet, fans can feel certain that she’ll make a statement, whether it’s with a gorgeous gown or a boundary-pushing designer outfit. She’s also known for matching her looks to the films she stars in, from wearing a gorgeous butterfly dress to the Australian premiere of The Greatest Showman to sporting stilettos with heels piercing actual tennis balls on a promotional trip to Rome for Challengers.

It’s also crucial to mention that Z’s reputation as a style tastemaker is thanks in no small part to her partner in crime, stylist Law Roach. The pair have been working together for well over a decade, with the in-demand stylist going from dressing the star for some of her very first events as a Disney Channel breakout star to coordinating show-stealing moments for several Met Galas – an event Zendaya earned the right to co-chair in 2024.

“It’s a little bit of fake it till you make it,” she confessed on The Kelly Clarkson Show that year, admitting that she’s an introvert. “You have to psych yourself up and pretend. Eventually you believe it. You’re like, ‘OK, yeah, I do feel confident today.’ And I think fashion has been a great tool for that for me.”

Fans React to Kendrick Lamar’s Explosive Drake Diss ‘6:16 in LA’: ‘This Rider Music’

Kendrick Lamar surprised the rap world by hurling another bomb in Drake’s direction with “6:16 in LA” arriving on Friday (May 3).

The Al Green-sampling Drake diss track has yet to hit streaming services and is currently only available on Kendrick Lamar’s Instagram, but that didn’t stop fans from going ballistic Friday morning heading into the weekend.

K. Dot accuses Drake of having traitors inside the OVO camp leaking information to the opposition while name-dropping 6 God affiliates like Akademiks and Zack Bia.

“Have you ever thought that OVO was working for me?/ Fake bully, I hate bullies/ You must be a terrible person/ Everyone inside your team is whispering that you deserve it/ Can’t Toosie Slide up out of this one, it’s just gon’ resurface,” Lamar raps.

Trending on Billboard

Fans, critics and more flooded social media with opinions of Kendrick’s surprise attack, with “6:16” arriving just three days after the scathing “Euphoria,” which served as the Compton legend’s response to Drake’s “Push Ups” diss.

“Kendrick don’t give two sh–s about you needing a club banger… This rider music. Underground rap fan heat,” Hot 97 host Ebro Darden wrote.

Another person saluted Akademiks being name-dropped on tracks by both sides in the war. “Akademiks being mentioned by both Drake and Kendrick Lamar in diss records is legendary. He’s apart of HipHop history, even if you love him or hate him, thats objectively a win for independent media,” they wrote.

While Spotify’s Carl Chery added: “Every now and then I hear people say Kendrick is too high brow and his lyrics are too hard to understand. I heard it a few times in the context of this battle. This is rap. You guys just have a low rap IQ.”

Some fans were left with their jaws on the floor after finding out that Taylor Swift’s frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff was a co-producer on “6:16 in LA.” (Drake poked at Lamar for working with Swift on “Push Ups.”) “So this track literally is Taylor Made Okay Kendrick I see you,” one Drake fan said on X.

The debate about who’s winning the Drake-Kendrick war is sure to rage on well into the weekend as fans await the 6 God’s next move — which better be his best move — in the battle.

“Due to health issues, Nick Jonas is unable to offer a concert of the quality that his Mexican audience deserves,” Mexican promoter Zignia Live announced in a statement on Friday (May 3). “For this reason, the Jonas Brothers events in Mexico City and Monterrey — scheduled for May 3 and 4 at Arena CDMX, and May 6 and 7 at Arena Monterrey — will be rescheduled.”

Nick Jonas revealed on Instagram that he is suffering from influenza-A. “Hi guys. I have come down with the nasty strain of influenza-A that’s been going around, and I’m not able to sing at the moment,” he wrote. “We always want to be able to give you guys the best show and I’m just not able to do that for these shows in Mexico at this time.”

Trending on Billboard

Jonas informed fans that the shows will now take place on Aug. 21 and 22 in Mexico City and Aug. 24 and 25 in Monterrey. “We are incredibly sorry for the inconvenience this causes some of you,” he expressed. “Love you all. You’re the best fans in the world. Will bring 120% in August!”

Produced by Live Nation, THE TOUR is the Jonas Brothers’ most ambitious to date, with 98 shows in 26 countries. According to a statement from their promoters in Mexico, “Each night is a celebration of five albums and features their greatest hits from over the years, including a variety of deep cuts spanning their entire career and favorite hits.”

The Jonas Brothers, which also includes Nick’s brothers Joe and Kevin Jonas, are considered one of the most successful pop groups of the past two decades, with more than 20 million albums sold. On the Billboard charts, they have placed 26 hits on the Hot 100 and three consecutive debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Among other accolades, they have received two Grammy nominations and recently unveiled their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Live Nation Shares Up 7% After Record Quarter, Universal Music Shares Gain on Earnings & TikTok Renewal

Shares of Live Nation jumped 7.2% to $94.66 on Friday following the company’s earnings report on Thursday (May 2), which showed the concert promotion and ticketing giant had a record first quarter. Revenue of $3.8 billion was up 21% year over year, and the company said it expects strong results in 2024 from its arena and high-margin amphitheater businesses.

Investors may have been encouraged by Live Nation’s insistence during Thursday’s earnings call that the U.S. Department of Justice does not pose a mortal threat to the company. Commenting about an April 16 Wall Street Journal article about a pending DOJ lawsuit, president and CFO Joe Berchtold dismissed the notion that regulators could force Live Nation to sever its concert promotion and ticketing businesses. “Very little of the conduct the DOJ has raised with us relates to the combination of ticketing and promotion resulting from the merger,” he said. “And most of what does was anticipated and addressed by the consent decree allowing the merger to go forward.

“Based on the issues we know about,” Berchtold added, “we don’t believe a breakup of Live Nation and Ticketmaster would be a legally permissible remedy.”

Trending on Billboard

Live Nation hasn’t fully recovered since news of a pending DOJ lawsuit broke. Through Wednesday (May 1), Live Nation shares had lost 11.5% since the WSJ article. Friday’s 7.2% gain helped Live Nation recover nearly half of that loss.

Numerous analysts see upside in Live Nation’s stock. On Tuesday, Deutsche Bank initiated coverage of Live Nation with a $120 price target and a “buy” rating. Following Thursday’s earnings release, Jefferies upped its price target to $115 from $114, Wolf Research raised its price target to $131 from $128, and Benchmark increased its price target to $132 from $130. CFRA downgraded Live Nation to “hold” from “strong buy,” however, and lowered its price target to $105 from $120.

Live Nation was one of the best-performing music stocks in a week the vast majority of them posted gains. Seventeen of the index’s 20 stocks gained ground this week, helping the Billboard Global Music Index improve 3.8% to 1,824.29 and nearly match the all-time high of 1,841.66 reached four weeks ago. Two stocks — Abu Dhabi-based music streamer Anghami and New York-based label and publisher Reservoir Media — posted losses and one stock, French music company Believe, was unchanged.

Universal Music Group shares climbed 4.9% to 28.92 euros ($31.16) following its first-quarter earnings release on Thursday and its announcement of a renewed licensing deal with TikTok. UMG’s earnings rose 6% (8% at constant currency) to 2.59 billion euros ($2.8 billion) and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) improved 13.2% to 591 million euros ($640 million).

K-pop company SM Entertainment was the week’s best performer after gaining 5.9% to 85,800 won ($63.27). Warner Music Group rose 5.4% to $34.14. iHeartMedia climbed 5.1% to $2.25. Cumulus Media gained 2.6% — and rose 4.2% on Friday — after its first-quarter earnings showed its 2.7% decline in revenue, to $200 million, was in line with previous guidance.

SiriusXM shares improved 3.3% to $3.12 this week despite falling 7.2% on Monday after its first-quarter earnings report showed the company’s self-pay subscribers dropped by 1.4%. Many analysts cut their price targets in the wake of the earnings. Barrington dropped SiriusXM to $4.75 from $5.75 and maintained its “outperform” rating. Deutsche Bank lowered its price target to $3.75 from $5 and kept its “hold” rating. Goldman Sachs dropped its price target to $3.25 from $3.50 and upgraded its rating to “neutral” from “sell.”

Rapsody Shares How She Made the ‘3 AM’ Music Video With Erykah Badu | How It Went Down | Billboard

In today’s episode of “How It Went Down,” Rapsody shares why she decided to name her new song “3 AM,” how she filmed the live performance music video with Erykah Badu and more!

Rapsody
I’m Rapsody and this is how it went down with my new single “3 AM.”

Rapsody
Getting to the final lyrical version of “3 AM” was a process. The first verse was actually lyrics that I pulled from another song that I had. Regardless, when I was talking about love, I wanted to pull from a real authentic place: “You made me feel like a virgin, a new person, you made me pull back the curtains. I’m not afraid to share what you were hurt me.” You know, I was really thinking about a relationship that I was in and the emotions that I was feeling. It was just really raw and real. And it just, it just kind of poured out. I took those lyrics and spit them over the version of the “3 AM” beat, and it just felt really good. The last verse, which is actually performed as a spoken-word piece, I wanted to talk about the whole journey of falling in love and then you fall out of love, what that feels like — where you can appreciate the experience, you can appreciate how you feel at the same time, sometimes you have to put yourself first and it requires letting go. And that was just really the approach of it. You know, the last verse is super emotional, though, you know, like my second adolescence. Like, come on.
