Joe Budden Catches Heat On X For Allegedly Ducking Diddy Topic

Joe Budden is back in a familiar position after fans are hurling criticism at the broadcaster for seemingly avoiding the topic of Diddy due to their past business relationship. A recent episode of The Joe Budden Podcast was discovered to have edited out a portion of the show regarding Diddy and the violent nature of the released video.

During the Friday (May 17) taping of his eponymously named podcast, Joe Budden and his co-hosts were probably expected to tackle the topic of Sean Combs and the video showing the mogul physically harming then-girlfriend Cassie Ventura.

As fans online noted, the podcast episode description on Saturday (May 18) showed a timestamp of the crew discussing Combs’ recent issues. However, the discussion was scrubbed from the episode and the outcry from the public Budden to speak on X Spaces. This isn’t the first time Budden has edited out a discussion about Combs, doing so back in November of last year when Ventura went public with her lawsuit.

In the Spaces, which also featured comments from Budden’s music collaborator and part-time podcast member Emanny, Budden says that they didn’t properly address the situation because it was happening as they were taping. He assured attendees in the Spaces chat that he intends to dive into the matter in detail in the next episode, which airs this Wednesday (May 22).

Budden was part of Diddy’s REVOLT network and has spoken favorably of the mogul on his platform. Some fans believe that due to the nature of their connection, Budden takes a lighthanded approach when discussing Combs.

Tom Hanks Asks Son Chet to Explain the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar Feud to Him: ‘Who’s Winning??’

Drake and Kendrick Lamar‘s rap feud is a family matter to the Hanks clan. Feeling out of the loop on modern hip-hop’s biggest beef to date, Tom Hanks recently reached out to his 33-year-old son Chet Hanks for an explanation of the whole debacle, making for a hilarious conversation which the latter shared on Instagram Monday (May 20).

Posting screenshots of the text chain on his Story, Chet revealed that his father — simply saved in his phone as “Pops” — began by messaging him, “Big Main, can you explain the Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud to me?”

Chet obligingly launched into a lengthy rundown of the feud, noting how each of the rappers has been dropping a series of diss tracks aimed at each other throughout April and May, starting with Drake’s “Push Ups.” Then came Drizzy’s since-deleted “Taylor Made Freestyle,” “Family Matters” and “The Heart Pt. 6,” as well as K. Dot’s “Euphoria,” “6:16 in L.A.” and “Meet the Grahams.”

Trending on Billboard

Of Lamar’s Billboard Hot 100-topping final diss “Not Like Us,” the younger Hanks told the Academy Award-winner that it was “pretty much the sonic equivalent of when you took me to your high school in Oakland and we walked in on the basketball game and everybody started going nuts.”

“Like if you heard it you would just automatically know how to Crip walk with a stank face while clutching an Oscar in each hand with Marshawn Lynch,” Chet added. “Then dap him up and tell him ‘Town Bidness’ which solidified the win not only for Kendrick but the entire West Coast.”

Suffice to say, Tom — who also shares son Truman with his wife, singer-actress Rita Wilson — was incredulous. “Holy cow!” he wrote back. “These are fighting words. People taking sides?? Who’s winning??”

“Did you not just read what I said,” Chet replied with three cry-laughing emojis.

Could Taylor Swift Headline a Future Kelce Jam? Here’s What Travis Kelce Thinks

It sounds like Travis Kelce is all for having Taylor Swift headline a future Kelce Jam festival — but there would definitely be some logistical details that would need to be handled first.

At his second-ever Kelce Jam music festival at Azura Amphitheatre Saturday (May 18) in Kansas City, the Chiefs tight end spoke with Billboard‘s Michael Saponara about the possibility of his superstar girlfriend ever headlining the event. “I don’t know, man — that’d be crazy,” he said with a big laugh. “We’d have to go to a stadium.”

With respect to Swift’s dozens of sold-out stadium-sized stops on her ongoing global Eras Tour, Kelce added, “I don’t think the amphitheater we’re in right now could hold that.”

Trending on Billboard

This year, Kelce Jam was headlined by Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz and Diplo and featured performances from Irie and E-V. In April, Kelce told Billboard that the festival would serve as his “last hoo-rah” to celebrate the Chiefs’ 2024 Super Bowl win.

While at the event, Kelce also ranked his top three favorite Swift songs — the latter two of which are tracks from The Tortured Poets Department believed to be about him, so he might be a little biased. “Golly,” he told sports journalist The Schmo. “‘Blank Space,’ ‘The Alchemy’ and ‘So High School.’”

The festival comes shortly after the 14-time Grammy winner gave both “The Alchemy” and “So High School” their live debuts at her Eras concerts in Paris May 9-12. The latter track was one of several new numbers she added to her three-hour-plus show as part of the Tortured Poets mini-set, while the former was included by Swift in the acoustic surprise song section of her final performance at La Defense Arena, which Kelce attended.

Kid Rock Reportedly Waves Gun During Interview, Uses Uses Racial Slurs: ‘Write the Most Horrific Article About Me’

After years of speaking mostly to right-wing outlets, Kid Rock recently sat down with a reporter from Rolling Stone magazine, and according to writer David Peisner, their sometimes unhinged chat included Rock ranting about immigration, liberally using the N-word and, at one point, waving a gun in the air.

The story features a number of disturbing and off-putting scenes, including Rock casually dropping racial slurs a number of times and the opening bit where the writer notes that Rock’s white butler goes by the racially charged nickname “Uncle Tom.” It also mentions that Rock keeps the original General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard — which famously has a Confederate flag emblazoned on its roof – in a hangar on his 214-acre Nashville estate. Rock makes sure to tell the writer that Tom is his major domo’s real name, laughing, “don’t give me some s–t in the article.”

Near the end, after noting that Rock has switched from sipping white wine to downing three or four Jim Beam and Diet Cokes in quick succession, Peisner writes, “He’s sitting in a dark leather chair, shouting at me about something or other, when he reaches behind the seat, pulls out a black handgun, and waves it around to make some sort of point.”

Trending on Billboard

Rock then notes, “And I got a f–king g–damn gun right here if I need it! I got them everywhere!” At press time a spokesperson for Rock had not returned Billboard‘s request for comment the claims in the RS piece.

The article traces Rock’s path from a child of privilege in the Detroit suburbs living in a huge house with his Republican dad, to his rise as an ambitious rapper and a libertarian who criticized the GOP’s stance on gay marriage and abortion before his deep-dive into right-wing politics. “I’m part of the problem,” Rock says at one point about the divisions roiling the country. “I’m one of the polarizing people, no question. Sometimes I bitch about other people, then I look in the mirror and I’m like, ‘Oh, yeah, why don’t you shut the f–k up too?’”

The rapper-turned-rocker-turned-country crooner wore a “This Bud’s For You” hat during the chat, a year after posting a video in which he attempted to shoot up a case of Bud Light, seemingly in pique over the brand’s celebration of trans social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney. While Rock says he’s moved on from the boycott of parent company Anheuser-Busch he helped promote, the piece notes that among the “bigger targets” Rock, 53, is now going after are progressive ice cream company Ben & Jerry’s and Planet Fitness, reportedly a target of right-wing anger for its trans-inclusive policies.

“I don’t want to hurt people’s jobs and stuff like that when they don’t have any dog in the fight, but there’s a whole lot of other companies we should be going after,” he tells Fox News host Laura Ingraham during an appearance taped a few hours into RS sit-down, during which he also rages against “DEI crap” and predicts that friend Donald Trump will win the presidential race in Michigan this year. On his way to the taping, Peisner says Rock tries to dial up one of his “besties,” former one-term president Trump, who doesn’t take the call.

Peisner says he spent a year trying to get Rock to talk to him, speaking to a dozen people who’d worked with the singer over the years who had been upset by his transformation from a party-time rapper and rocker to a MAGA-fueled culture warrior whose music has taken a backseat to his public protestations. Kenny Olson, who played lead guitar in Rock’s band for more than a decade in the 1990s said he couldn’t understand the heel turn.

“I don’t understand where a lot of this came from,” said Olson. “I’ve always felt music should inspire people, not divide people. A lot of people from back in the day ask me, ‘What’s going on?’ I don’t know.”

Rock explains to Peisner that he hasn’t done many interviews lately because he felt they all became “this gotcha moment,” saying he doesn’t need the attention while gesturing to the green valley in front of him and adding, “look around. I live in my own world. And it’s great.” At one point, while flipping through a photo album of pics from his career, Rock lands on one in which he’s wearing a rebel flag-designed shirt while sharing the stage with the members of Run-DMC.

“Nobody said a f–king word,” he says of the group’s three Black members. “No one. That was the thing until all this woke s–t started happening.” He claims there was no deeper meaning to him rocking the reviled symbol many see as a nod to the era of slavery. “I was using the Confederate flag because I love Lynyrd Skynyrd, and I think it just looks cool,” he says.

The story includes a trip to one of the dates on Rock’s Rock the Country tour, in which Peisner describes a “sea of American flags, Trump 2024 merch” and rants by Rock about
“open borders, high taxes and a declaration that ‘Joe Biden can kiss my motherf–king Anglo-Saxon ass.’” In one back-and-forth, Rock appears to parrot Trump’s hateful rhetoric against immigration, calling some “murderers! They’re rapists! They are! MS-13!” before shouting “9/11!” in a seeming attempt to tie immigration to terrorism; Peisner says he noted the well-documented anecdotal evidence that immigrants commit crime at much lower levels than citizens.

As for his full-throated embrace of Trump — the presumptive GOP presidential nominee currently embroiled in a criminal hush money trial and facing three other trials tied to his attempts to hide top secret documents and interfere with the 2020 election — Rock says he knows exactly who the former Apprentice host is.

“You think I like Trump because he’s a nice guy?” Rock says. “I’m not electing the deacon of a church. That motherf–ker likes to win. He likes to cheat in his f–king golf game. I want that guy on my team. I want the guy who goes, ‘I’m going to fight with you.’”

Peisner says Rock — whose bi-racial son was born from a high school relationship with a Black woman — liberally uses the n-word throughout the interview, in which he speculates that a decade out from his last big hit, the singer’s right wing embrace might be as much about “managing the emotional fallout of a waning career as it is about any deep-seated beliefs.”

In the end, even after lamenting that, “no one’s ever going to say, ‘F–k Prince,’” as he considers his checkered legacy, Rock triples down on his divisive nature in a most Trump-ian fashion. “I don’t care,” he maintains as Peisner tries to suggest that maybe he actually cares a lot what people think of him. “No, I don’t. You don’t understand. I really don’t give a f–k.”

So, after insisting that the writer watch a series of performance videos before allowing him to leave, the chat ends with Rock asking Peisner for a favor. “Just write the most horrific article about me,” says the tipsy host. “Do it. It helps me.”

Luke Combs, “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma”

Trending on Billboard

Combs issues one of his most ferocious vocals to date from the first blistering notes of this thumping barnburner. Written by Combs with Jonathan Singleton and Jessi Alexander, this song is part of the companion album to the movie Twisters. As such, this careening country-rock number blends lyrics that center on translating the passion for thrill-seeking that comes with chasing tornadoes. “Scared of nothing and I’m scared to death,” is how Combs describes it on one verse, while the wall of thunderous percussion and sinewy guitars churn, winding into a chorus that feels tailor-made for crowds to lift up their cups and shout along with.

Shelby Lynne, “Over and Over”

As Lynne’s masterpiece album I Am Shelby Lynne celebrates its silver anniversary, the singer-songwriter proves she continues to possess one of music’s most distinctive voices on her new song “Over and Over.” She depicts the tale of someone remembering an old flame, and the cascade of memories that keep trailing from the past to the present. Horns, tambourine and a swell of voices further elevate Lynne’s crystalline voice. The song was produced by Lynne, Karen Fairchild, Ashley Monroe and Gena Johnson, as Lynne prepares an upcoming album with Fairchild.

Becky Buller feat. Aoife O’Donovan, “Jubilee”

Ten-time International Bluegrass Music Association award winner Buller puts a spotlight on a subject rarely covered in bluegrass music with her latest album, Jubilee, which centers on battling with depression. Released May 17, the album was initially commissioned by the FreshGrass Foundation to debut at their Bentonville, Arkansas festival. Buller and her band recorded the album live; on the title track, featuring Aoife O’Donovan, she remembers the idyllic early days of love, but yearns for a time of respite as demands and stresses pile up — a topic that no doubt resonates deep with so many listeners. The harmonies here are superb, backed by expertly-rendered mandolin, guitar, banjo, bass and fiddle.

Aaron Vance, “Will You Marry Me (Cause I Wanna Be Your Man)”

Mississippi native Vance has been releasing music for more than a decade, with songs including “Cabin Fever” and “Outlaw Jones,” and has been spotlighted by the Black Opry as well. Here, he dusts off a song he wrote solo in 2015. “Will You Marry Me,” produced by Rich Karg, gives a fun, uptempo vibe to this romantic missive. Groovy, twangy guitars and laid-back percussion provide an undertow as Vance’s clear, resonant voice chronicles a couple’s story from friendship to lovers, as he pops the question in song. Vance is steadily stacking his cards as a singer-songwriter of ineluctable artistic power.

Laci Kaye Booth, Loneliest Girl in the World

Livingston, Texas native Booth issues her debut full-length album with Loneliest Girl in the World, out via Geffen Records. Across 15 tracks, Booth largely stays within slow grooves and singer-songwritery sonic terrains, which place the focus squarely on her softly smokey voice and vivid story arcs. She tries to shake off her overthinking, “good girl” ways in “Nightmare” and in “South,” she muses how she’ll handle it if her lover’s wanderlust for open spaces leads him from the city and out West. Snippets of phone calls with family lead into the album’s closer “Hang on Houston,” as she sings of missing home as she chases her dreams in the “ten-year town” of Nashville. Smart songwriting and tasteful production proliferate the album, highlighting her talents as both writer and vocalist and making Booth one of the genre’s brightest newcomers.

Eddie Vedder Slams Harrison Butker During Pearl Jam Concert: Watch

Eddie Vedder had some choice words for Harrison Butker following the Kansas City Chiefs kicker’s controversial commencement speech at Benedictine College last week.

During Pearl Jam’s Saturday (May 18) concert at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, the 59-year-old rock star cut right to the chase when expressing his feelings about Butker’s beliefs, particularly the athlete’s assertion that women should prioritize raising families instead of pursuing careers outside of the home.

“There should be pride in homemaking, whether you’re a man or woman,” he began. “It’s maybe one of the hardest jobs and you should definitely take pride in it. But you shouldn’t not follow a dream because you think … you’re going to benefit by giving up your dreams? I couldn’t understand the logic.”

Trending on Billboard

“He was telling men, ‘Don’t forget to puff up your chest and be more masculine, don’t lose your masculinity,’” Vedder continued while strumming his guitar, as captured in a fan video. “The irony was that when he was saying that, he looked like such a f–king p—y.”

The “Even Flow” singer added, “There’s nothing more masculine than a strong man supporting a strong woman.”

The concert comes a little over a week after Butker took the stage at Benedictine’s May 11 commencement ceremony to condemn President Joe Biden, abortion, birth control, Pride Month and “the cultural emasculation of men” before discouraging the female graduates in attendance from “thinking about all of the promotions and titles” they would soon get in their careers.

“I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world,” the NFL player continued at the time. “I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say her life truly started when she started living her vocation as a wife and as a mother.”

In the same speech, Butker also promoted antisemitic misinformation about a congressional bill, as well as quoted the song “Bejeweled” by Taylor Swift — whom he simply referred to as Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce’s “girlfriend” — while admonishing church leaders who become “overly familiar” with their parishioners. “This undue familiarity will prove to be problematic every time,” he said with a smile. “Because as my teammate’s girlfriend says, ‘Familiarity breeds contempt.’”

Vedder isn’t the only star who’s spoken out against Butker’s comments. Maren Morris, Flavor Flav and more celebrities have all used their platforms to condemn the athlete’s words. However, other stars such as Whoopi Goldberg and actress Patricia Heaton have publicly defended Butker’s right to say them.

T.I. Credits J. Cole for Stepping Out of Kendrick Lamar-Drake Feud: ‘That Was Quite Mature of Him’

While the dust appears to have settled in the Kendrick Lamar and Drake feud, other rappers are still providing their takeaways from the massive battle that swept the hip-hop world and permeated pop culture.

T.I. pulled up to Big Boy’s Neighborhood in an episode that dropped May 16, where he broke down the Drake-K. Dot battle as Big Boy peppered him with questions. Tip believes that Cole chose “peace and tranquility” when it comes to bowing out of the feud after dropping “7 Minute Drill” (which he later removed from streaming services following his apology to Lamar at Dreamville Fest).

“You gotta have thick skin,” he said. “You gotta be really unfazed and unbothered. We don’t know the temperament or sensitivity of Cole’s dynamic. We never seen Cole upset, we don’t know where that’ll take him. That was quite mature of him.”

Trending on Billboard

As far as the jarring allegations made by both sides, T.I. says he doesn’t believe everything he hears. “I just appreciate the skill sets and the presentation — the art,” he explained. “I try to take it all with a grain of salt. All the s–t they saying can’t be true.”

The “What You Know” rapper continued: “It got to be some embellishment or some ambiguous nature in some of this. It can’t all be true, but I just mostly listen for the double entendres, quadruple entendres, and the metaphors and just the skill in which they present they art.”

Kendrick and Drake’s peers might not be as thrilled as fans about the beef, as T.I. believes some may have had their release dates and rollout plans thrown off and pushed back as a result of the feud taking up a ton of oxygen in the rap eco-system over the last month.

“They done kinda f—-d it up for some other who were planning to drop in this period,” he said.

Drake dropped “The Heart Part 6” on May 5, and Kendrick hasn’t replied since, signaling an end to the war. K. Dot’s “Not Like Us” ruled last week’s Billboard Hot 100, while his “Euphoria” diss track came in at No. 3 in its first full week of tracking ahead of Drake’s “Family Matters” (No. 7) in an animosity-filled top 10.

Find T.I.’s full interview below. Talk about the Kendrick-Drake feud begins around the 34-minute mark.

Talentless MAGA Mutt Kid Rock Waved Gun & Said N-Word During Interview

150th Kentucky Derby - Barnstable Brown Gala

Kid Rock, who has as much talent as most folks have in their left toenail, is still making headlines for reasons outside his make-believe music career. During a recent interview, the MAGA-loving former struggle rapper turned struggle rocker waved his gun at the journalist while dropping some racial slurs for good measure.

The career arc of Kid Rock was examined in a new interview from Rolling Stone in which journalist David Peisner looked deeper into the man, whose real name is Bob Ritchie, and how he became aligned with all things Donald Trump.

At one stretch of the interview, an intoxicated Kid Rock waved a gun along with other antics befitting a guy who seems to be nothing more than a raging clout demon. This came after Rock and Peisner were locked into a debate about Trump’s racist and xenophobic stances against immigrants, especially those hailing from Mexico.

From Rolling Stone:

By this time, I’ve long since quit drinking, but Ritchie has exchanged his white wine for Jim Beam and Diet Coke. He proceeds to drain at least three or four of them in pretty quick succession. He’s sitting in a dark leather chair, shouting at me about something or other, when he reaches behind the seat, pulls out a black handgun, and waves it around to make some sort of point.

“And I got a fucking goddamn gun right here if I need it!” he shouts. “I got them everywhere!”

This was the tenor of the next hour or so. We start talking about American history, and he rightfully brings up slavery and the genocide of Native Americans as stains on that history. I ask him if he worries that in the modern day he might be on the wrong side of history.

“No. It was the Republicans that freed the f*cking slaves!”

“Yes, but the Republicans were the progressive party back then.”

In this exact exchange, Rock refers to the infamous Trick Trick as “the hardest-hitting n*gger in Detroit” and claims that the legendary underground rapper and producer supported Rock’s embrace of Trump.

Kid Rock saw his name trending Monday (May 20) due to the Rolling Stone interview and people just generally kicking his back in. We’ve got reactions listed below.
