Eminem, Normani & More: Which Is Your Favorite New Music Release of the Week? Vote!

This week’s offering of music was as mixed a bag as ever, with everyone from Eminem to Normani, Charli XCX, Shaboozey and more serving up new releases to close out the month of May.

Starting with “Houdini,” Slim Shady once again proved he’s the master of getting people talking. The Steve Miller Band-sampling track features several head-turning name-drops — most controversially, R. Kelly and Megan Thee Stallion — as Em reflects on his past self and the changing tides of culture. He also shared a campy superhero-themed music video to go with the track, featuring cameos from Pete Davidson, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg and more.

Meanwhile, Normani emerged with the second track from her highly anticipated debut album Dopamine. On the exuberantly confident “Candy Paint,” the Fifth Harmony alum flexes her ability to nab any man she wants, regardless of their current relationship status.

Plus, Charli XCX put a new spin on her single “360” by uniting Robyn and Yung Lean. The alt-pop star’s upcoming LP is coming in hot, with Brat slated to drop in just over a week on June 7.

Finally, amid a rare lull in 2024 A-list album releases — following the drops of Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department and Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter, to name a few — both Shaboozey and Ayra Starr unveiled full-length projects Friday (May 31). The Virginia country star plays with different genres on his third studio record Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going, while The Year I Turned 21 finds the Nigerian singer-songwriter stepping into her own distinct sound.

Sean Paul Turns NPR’s ‘Tiny Desk Concert’ Into a Bashment: Watch

Sean Paul’s Tiny Desk Concert dropped Friday (May 31) and it’s as good as you’d expect.

The legendary reggae superstar took over the NPR offices and transformed them into a good old-fashioned bashment from the jump. Although there was no daggering or whining to be seen, Paul sounded just like he did when he made the tracks that made him an international phenomenon during the early 2000s. With a set list including “Gimme the Light,” “Get Busy,” “Infiltrate,” “I’m Still in Love With You,” “Deport Them,” “Like Glue,” and “Temperature,” Paul proved just how many of his songs have aged well and can still get a party rocking.

He got help from Nigel A. Staff (keys/musical direction), Dan Policar (keys), Kemar “Spanky” Liking (drums), Davol “FletchaBass” Fletcher (bass), Shaun “Copper Shaun” Anderson (DJ), Terrence “Farenizzi” Harold (vocals), and Kerissa Spencer (vocals).

About 15 minutes into his set, after performing 2000’s “Deport Them,” he had to take off his orange Palm Angels track jacket before jumping into “Temperature” — which gave him an opportunity to show off all the ice he had on, including a crazy diamond fang grill. The star also managed to get the NPR staff involved throughout his set, with the small crowd nailing the call and response, a very important part of any dancehall set.

Sean last released an album in 2022 with Scorcha. He’s still working it, though, releasing the video for “Gyal Chasin” this past March. Hopefully his Tiny Desk can help revitalize the bashment party scene.

Dolly Parton Says It Would Be ‘Wonderful’ to Perform ‘Jolene’ With Beyoncé at the Grammys

“Of course I would! If I’m available,” she told E! News. “That would be wonderful. I mean, who wouldn’t want to sing ‘Jolene’ with Beyoncé?”

She added, “I think it was very bold of her. When they said she was going to do ‘Jolene,’ I expected it to be the regular one, but it wasn’t. I loved what she did to it. As a songwriter, you love the fact that people do your song, no matter how they do them. She wasn’t about to beg some woman like I did. ‘Don’t steal my man.’ S— out of here, b—-, you ain’t stealing him!”

Lastly, Parton said that she’s “very proud” of Bey’s new album. “I think she did a great job in country music. I was just happy she did ‘Jolene.’ I would, of course, loved to hear how she’d done it in it’s original way, but of course, it’s Beyoncé. Her life is different than mine.”

Before the Cowboy Carter track list arrived, Parton addressed speculation that Bey may be taking on her classic track. ““Well, I think she has!” she told Knox News. “I think she’s recorded ‘Jolene’ and I think it’s probably gonna be on her country album, which I’m very excited about that.”

“I love her!” Parton added of the 32-time Grammy winner. “She’s a beautiful girl and a great singer.”

Parton’s “Jolene” peaked at No. 60 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1974, and No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart in February that year. The song also earned Parton a 1975 Grammy nod for best female country vocal performance for the recording, while the live version earned her a nod in the same category the following year.

Beyoncé’s “Jolene,” meanwhile, peaked at No. 7 on the Hot 100 dated April 13, 2024.

Here’s How Jason & Brittany Aldean Reacted to Trump’s Felony Verdict

Jason Aldean and his wife Brittany Aldean shared their reactions after former president (and current presidential nominee) Donald Trump’s conviction on 34 felony charges. The Trump verdict marks the first criminal conviction of a former president in U.S. history.

The “Try That in a Small Town” singer shared a photo on Instagram of an upside down American flag — a symbol among Trump supporters meant to signal a country in crisis — along with a caption regarding the verdict. “Scary times in our country right now, man. When a former POTUS gets treated like this by our justice system, what does that mean for the rest of us???” he wrote. “If there was ever a time to speak up, ITS NOW! Make no mistake…. We are in trouble.”

Meanwhile, Brittany Aldean posted on Instagram, “WE LOVE YOU @realdonaldtrump. The ones with a brain can see through the smear campaign.”

On May 30, after a seven-week trial, a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty of all 34 charges of falsifying business records in the first degree. Trump’s sentencing court date is set for July 11, four days prior to the start of the Republican National Convention. Trump is faces either a fine, probation, or a prison sentence of up to four years.

The Aldeans have previously associated with Trump, including attending Trump’s New Year’s Eve gala and playing golf with Trump in Florida in 2022.

Aldean is currently on his Highway Desperado Tour and recently paid tribute to late country music artist Toby Keith during the Academy of Country Music Awards, by performing Keith’s “Should’ve Been a Cowboy.”

Jennifer Lopez Cancels This Is Me… Live Tour: ‘I Am Completely Heartsick’

Jennifer Lopez has canceled her This Is Me … Live Tour just one month before the trek was slated to kick off in Orlando.

Live Nation announced the news Friday (May 31), saying that, “Jennifer is taking time off to be with her children, family and close friends.” The North American escapade had been scheduled to begin June 26 at the Kia Center in Orlando, Fla. and run through mid-August, with shows blocked off for venues across the United States and parts of Canada.

On her website, the 54-year-old singer-actress shared a personal statement to fans. “I am completely heartsick and devastated about letting you down,” she wrote. “Please know that I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t feel that it was absolutely necessary. I promise I will make it up to you and we will all be together again.”

“I love you all so much,” Lopez added. “Until next time…”

This Is Me … Live was meant to be the Hustlers star’s first concert tour in five years, supporting her latest album This Is Me … Now. She first announced the stint in February, one month before rescheduling seven stops due to routing issues.

Lopez’s team is now working to issue refunds to fans who purchased tickets. Those who bought seats via Ticketmaster will receive them automatically, whereas people who went through third-party resale sites such as SeatGeek, StubHub and VividSeats will need to reach out to their points of purchase for more details.

The “I’m Real” singer kicked off the month by co-chairing the 2024 Met Gala — which she attended in a glimmering silver Schiaparelli gown — alongside Chris Hemsworth, Bad Bunny and Zendaya. Her latest film, the Brad Peyton-directed Atlas, premiered on Netflix May 24.

While promoting the film in Mexico City with costar Simu Liu last week, things turned awkward when a reporter asked her about ongoing rumors about her marriage. “Is your divorce with Ben Affleck real?” the journalist asked, to which Lopez responded with a tight smile, “You know better than that.”

Latin Remix of the Week: Luck Ra, Maluma, Khea’s ‘Hola Perdida (Remix)’

In our Latin Remix of the Week series, we spotlight remixes that the Billboard Latin and Billboard Español editors deem to be exceptional and distinct from the rest. We might not publish a review every week. This is our selection today.

At the onset of 2024, Argentinian sensations Luck Ra and Khea kicked off the year with a compelling dance track called “Hola Perdida,” off the former’s debut album, Que Nos Falte Todo. The dynamic romantic song beautifully merges the cuarteto and bachata styles, crafting a seamless musical synthesis that vibrates with both energy and passion.

While the up-and-coming artist Luck Ra, hailing from Córdoba, had previously flexed his vocal skills singing behind a thriving live band, it was Khea, the trap star from Virreyes, who surprised his fans by swapping his rap verses for a more melodious vocal delivery. The song gained so much success that it topped the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 chart for multiple consecutive weeks.

Having already conquered national charts, the duo decided to expand their reach by collaborating with Colombian megastar Maluma. The Medellín-born artist infused the song with his signature seductive flow, adding playful and flirtatious verses that heighten the track’s international allure.

“Luck Ra, Khea, thank you partners for making me part of this mega track. This remix is going far,” Maluma wrote on Instagram Thursday (May 30).

Each star shines bright in this riveting collaboration, thus earning its rightful place as Latin Remix of the Week. The music video sees the trio joining forces in a studio, inviting fans to witness the behind-the-scenes set.

From Kehlani‘s blissful new single to Ben Platt‘s romantic new album, check out just a few of our favorite new releases from this week below:

Kehlani, “Next 2 U”

On her latest single from next month’s new album “Crash,” Kehlani is fusing the old and the new. “Next 2 U” is a rare gem in Kehlani’s discography that expertly blends together her well-honed R&B sound with the newer, industrial production elements of her sound to make a grinding-yet-gorgeous new track about dedication. Her vocals remain unparalleled in their effortless grace, and the accompanying music video only further underlines the star’s calls for a free Palestine, making “Next 2 U” a thrilling addition to Kehlani’s already stunning body of work.

Trending on Billboard

Ben Platt, Honeymind

For Ben Platt, there’s no need to over complicate things when it comes to love. Honeymind, the Broadway star’s third studio album, sees Platt leaning effortlessly into lush, rich ballads about the nature of his relationship. Pair his voice with buttery strings, simple guitar and bass or even just a piano, and the results come back the same — Platt knows exactly what (and more acurately, who) he is devoted to in this gorgeous new LP.

Romy, “Always Forever”

Donna Lewis’ 1961 hit “I Love You Always Forever” has already served as the basis for plenty of pop songs — but Romy’s recent interpolation of the track feels instantly electric. “Always Forever” continues Romy’s hot streak since the release of her critically-lauded album Mid Air in 2023, this time turning up the volume on her pop stylings. The rising star spends her verses building up a sense of tension and longing, only to let the iconic melody of Lewis’ track serve as instant gratification on the song’s delirious chorus. “Always Forever” is yet another reminder that when it comes to ecstatic dance music, Romy is the one to watch.

Zolita, Queen of Hearts

Zolita wants to get real with you — and then, she’d like to dance. On Queen of Hearts, the rising pop singer’s latest LP, Zolita dives deep into the peaks and pitfalls of queer romance, detailing thrilling nights on the town followed by mornings filled with questions and hurt feelings. Spurning that journey along is a set of irresistible, impeccably-produced pop bangers that worm their way into your head and take root, especially on album standout “All Over Again.” If Zolita’s goal was to deliver a stylish, smart album about LGBTQ love just in time for Pride, then consider her mission accomplished.

Dua Saleh feat. Serpentwithfeet, “Unruly”

We cannot imagine two artists more naturally suited to collaborate with one another than Dua Saleh and Serpentwithfeet. So, when the two linked up on their hypnotic new song “Unruly,” it does not disappoint — the pair’s experimental, otherworldly sounds mesh together into a web of gorgeous, celestial soundscape. It’s a testament to both artists that “Unruly” works as well as it does, instantly elevating the vibe the moment it starts.

Channel Tres, “Cactus Water”

Summer is here, and Channel Tres would like to celebrate the sweaty season with a sultry new cut of his own. On “Cactus Water,” Tres celebrates hot nights out on the dancefloor, with a kinetic beat and grooving bass backing up his swaggering vocal. After offering to “lick you up, lick you down,” Tres brings the song to an electrifying pinnacle, making it an immediate go-to for your summer playlists.
