Fat Joe Feels The Rihanna Incident Seperates Chris Brown From Michael Jackson, X Users Call C A P

Fat Joe reenergized the tired debate about whether Chris Brown is on the same level as the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

In a recent IG Live session, Joey Crack discussed Chris Brown and Michael Jackson. The Bronx rapper made the hottest of takes, claiming that the infamous Rihanna incident keeps Brown from being mentioned in the same breath as Jackson.

The Terror Squad general argued to those watching that it’s been 20 years since Brown physically assaulted his then-girlfriend Rihanna, claiming that it was time to let it go and that Breezy is the best singer/dancer/performer since Michael Jackson.

Fat Joe took things even further when he used disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly to prove his point, trying to make the tired and ridiculous separate the artist from their egregious actions argument.

Now, to his credit, Chris Brown has shut down the MJ comparisons while still paying homage to the “Thriller” singer. In a 2022 interview with Big Boy, he acknowledged that he draws inspiration from MJ heavily but has also added his own flair to his talent to pave his own path in the music industry.

Social Media Calls C A P on Fat Joe’s Chris Brown Hot Take

Fat Joe’s comments, of course, sparked debate, with many Breezy fans agreeing with him, while other fans of music claim Usher is above Brown, and MJ fans feel no one compares.

“We would still only call Michael Jackson Michael Jackson, actually. And, if we have to decide, Usher would be the only logical heir apparent. Hope this helps,” one person on X, formerly Twitter, wrote.

Apple Music’s Rap Life host Low Key added, “Does he have a ‘Confessions’….?,” referring to Usher’s iconic 2004 album.

He has a point.

The gallery below shows more reactions to Fat Joe caping for Chris Brown as a GOAT.

Sabrina Carpenter Strips Down Chappell Roan’s ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ for BBC Performance

In between sips of that me espresso, pop star Sabrina Carpenter is wishing all of her exes the best with a cover of fellow singer Chappell Roan‘s latest single.

Taking the stage at BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge on Tuesday (June 18), Carpenter performed her own take on Roan’s breakout hit “Good Luck, Babe!” Swapping out the song’s chunky ’80s synths for a piano and acoustic guitar combo, Carpenter started off slow, taking Roan’s octave-jumping chorus down for a more somber take on the track.

But by the time she reached the song’s second chorus, the “Please Please Please” singer ratcheted things up a notch, bringing in a twangy guitar and showing off her impressive falsetto on the song’s final chorus. Watch the full performance above.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Carpenter spoke about her friendship with Island Records labelmate Roan, saying that she had her songs on a “loopty loop” and that the two had formed an off-stage friendship. “I’ve been just as obsessed with her as everyone has,” she said. “It’s so weird when you’re hanging out as two young women as opposed to thinking about when she goes onstage and is that person and when I go on stage.”

Both pop singers have had a fruitful few months. Carpenter earned a pair of chart-toppers on the Billboard Global 200 this week, as “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” hit Nos. 1 and 2, respectively. Meanwhile, on the Billboard Hot 100, the two tracks occupy Nos. 2 and 3, with Roan’s “Good Luck Babe” rising to No. 21, followed by “Red Wine Supernova” and “Hot to Go!” at Nos. 67 & 68, respectively. Roan’s debut album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess also earned its highest-charting week on the Billboard 200, climbing into the chart’s top 10 nine months after its original release.

Celine Dion Gets Emotional After Documentary Screening Standing Ovation: ‘I Hope to See You All Again Very, Very Soon’

“Thank you to all of you, from the bottom of my heart, for being part of my journey. This movie is my love letter to each of you,” the “Power of Love” singer told the audience at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall. “I hope to see you all again very, very soon.”

Directed by Academy Award nominee Irene Taylor, I Am: Céline Dion promises a “raw and honest” look at the superstar’s battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, also known as Moersch-Woltman Syndrome. According to a press release from Amazon MGM Studios, the film will also “highlight the music that has guided [Céline’s] life while also showcasing the resilience of the human spirit.”

Since December 2022, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer has remained largely out of the public eye due to her diagnosis with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder known for causing uncontrolled muscle spasms that make it hard to move. Dion was forced to postpone all of her 2023 tour dates, before ultimately canceling the rest of her tour entirely. Last December, her sister Claudette revealed that Celine had “no control” of her muscles.

In March, the songstress spoke out on social media for International Stiff Person Syndrome Awareness Day. “Today the world recognizes International SPS Awareness Day,” Dion wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of her smiling with her three sons. “As many of you know, in the fall of 2022, I was diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS). Trying to overcome this autoimmune disorder has been one of the hardest experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible. I am deeply grateful for the love and support from my kids, family, team and all of you!”

SiriusXM’s Reverse Stock Split Sends Share Price Up 4.5%

Sirius XM Holdings announced a 1-for-10 reverse stock split for its shareholders when it merges with Liberty Media’s SiriusXM Group tracking stock later this year, sending the streaming and satellite radio company’s stock up 4.5% on Tuesday (June 18).

The stock split, which was announced in a filing on Sunday (June 16), is meant to reduce the overall share count and boost SiriusXM’s stock price. The Nasdaq-listed company has seen its stock price fall by more than 65% from a 52-week high of $7.95, leading the Nasdaq to drop SiriusXM from its Nasdaq-100 Index last Thursday (June 13).

The stock split and the combination of the two publicly listed companies into a new SiriusXM stock — a deal expected to close in the third quarter — are financial wranglings aimed at improving value for investors, executives have said.

Trending on Billboard

SiriusXM is attempting to gain a foothold in the streaming market with the rollout of its new phone-based streaming app, which executives say offers up a wider range of tailored content for users. The app is also an attempt to reduce the company’s reliance on customers subscribing through their vehicles.

Investments in the app, however, were costly, and SiriusXM has announced two separate rounds of layoffs over roughly the past year.

The stock split should help reduce the dilution that resulted from the company issuing stock to raise money, says David Schulhof, founder of the music company exchange-traded fund MUSQ.

“The company has faced some headwinds in the ad and auto markets and they also raised a lot of money to roll out their music streaming service to compete with the likes of Spotify,” says Schulhof.

“But that is really where they should go,” he adds. “With 87% of all music consumption dominated by streaming, they really needed to figure out a streaming strategy quickly.”

The company is hopeful that the revamped app, which launched in December and costs $9.99 per month, will attract new subscribers and drive revenue growth.

Paul McCartney Celebrates His 82nd Birthday: ‘Looking Forward to Being Spoilt Rotten’

Paul McCartney is another year older and wiser, with the musical legend celebrating his 82nd birthday Tuesday (June 18).

To commemorate the occasion, the Beatles star shared a photo of himself onstage via Instagram. “They say it is my birthday,” he captioned the snap. “I’m looking forward to being spoilt rotten by my loved ones! – Paul”

The night prior to McCartney’s big day, Austin Butler revealed that he’d recently attended a party — which may have been the former’s birthday bash — at the Wings frontman’s house. The gathering was also attended by Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen, Meryl Streep and Taylor Swift, who at one point DJ’d the festivities, according to the Elvis star.

“That was insane,” Butler told Jimmy Kimmel, who also attended the celebration, on the comedian’s late-night show Monday (June 17).

Kimmel agreed that it was “the craziest party I’ve ever been to in my whole life.”

Four days before his birthday, McCartney and Wings released their new live album, One Hand Clapping. The star also recently unveiled his Eyes of the Storm photo exhibit at The Brooklyn Museum in New York City, featuring a sprawling collection of his own behind-the-scenes snaps from the early days of Beatlemania with Starr, George Harrison and John Lennon.

In November, McCartney unveiled “Now and Then,” a previously unreleased Beatles track recovered from a low-quality tape. The “Silly Love Songs” singer worked with audio specialists to lift Lennon’s vocals from the recording using AI, a process he called “magical” at the time.

“When we were in the studio, we had John’s voice in our ears,” he added in an interview with BBC Radio 1 last year. “So you could imagine he was just in the next room in a vocal booth or something and we were just working with him again … It’s very special for me to be singing with John again.”

Jenni Rivera to Get Posthumous Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Regional Mexican star Jenni Rivera is set to be honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced on Tuesday (June 18).

Known as “La Diva de la Banda,” Rivera will be honored on June 27 with the 2,783rd star, dedicated in the recording category, which will be located in front of Capitol Records on Vine Street. Mexican pop star Gloria Trevi will speak during the ceremony and Rivera’s five children — Jacqie, Johnny, Chiquis, Jenicka and Michael — will accept the star on her behalf.

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is proud to honor the legendary Jenni Rivera with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Ana Martinez, Walk of Fame producer, said in a statement. “Jenni’s star represents not only her incredible achievements as an artist, but also her resilience, courage, and unwavering spirit that continue to inspire fans around the world.”

At the time of her death on December 9, 2012, Rivera, 43, was at the peak of her career and the single most successful woman in regional Mexican and on the Billboard Latin charts. With anthems such as “Inolvidable,” “De Contrabando,” “Basta Ya” and “Resulta,” Rivera forged a lane for herself in a male-dominated genre.

Rivera entered more than 30 songs on the Regional Mexican Airplay, 15 of those hit the top 10. On the Hot Latin Songs chart, she placed a total of 25 songs, two hit the top 10: “Ahora Que Estuviste Lejos” and “La Misma Gran Señora.”

Ashanti Reveals How Nelly Proposed to Her: ‘The Way It Happened Was Just so Funny’

Ashanti revealed earlier this year that she and Nelly were engaged, but now she’s opening up about how the “Ride Wit Me” artist orchestrated the low-key proposal.

Nelly surprised Ashanti when he got down on one knee with a ring as they were just hanging out in their bedroom. The St. Louis native kept it casual and caught Ashanti off-guard with the at-home proposal.

Ashanti admitted to Entertainment Tonight on Tuesday (June 18) that she was just wearing a pair of Nelly’s boxers and one of his T-shirts during the intimate moment.

Trending on Billboard

“It was just such a beautiful, intimate moment. We were not dressy. I definitely had on one of his T-shirts and his boxers. I had no idea. Completely,” she said. “I felt like it was gonna come soon, I didn’t know when. The way that it happened was just so funny.

The “Foolish” singer continued: “I’m sitting in the bed watching TV with boxers on — it’s not literally sexy! I cried, I gave him the biggest hug and kiss ever, I FaceTimed everyone I know… I was overjoyed and shocked and surprised and happy kinda like all in one.”

Ashanti and Nelly are also expecting their first bundle of joy together later this year. It will be the “Always on Time” artist’s first child and Nelly’s fifth.

The former Murder Inc. staple has an idea for the month she wants to get married, but stopped short of disclosing it. However, she plans to not be pregnant and wants to give birth before tying the knot. “I think it’s gonna be a combination of fashion, glam, Caribbean vibes. Like I have to have like a beach, an ocean, sunshine and palm trees,” she said of how she envisions the big day.

Nelly and Ashanti began dating in 2003 and were together on-and-off before splitting for what they thought was for good in 2013. The couple rekindled their romance after being spotted together for several public outings a decade later in 2023 and will welcome a child later this year.

“The growth has been like superb, you know, like on both ends,” she explained when it comes to the maturity between her and Nelly this time around. “We are both at a place where like before, sometimes we would argue and walk out, slam the door, and not talk for a few days.”

Watch Ashanti’s interview detailing the proposal, pregnancy and her upcoming wedding below.
