'Double Dragon Revive' Is A Modern Take On The 1987 Classic

Source: Arc System Works / Double Dragon Revive

Double Dragon is back but with a very modern twist.

Today, Arc System Works dropped the reveal trailer for Double Dragon Revive, a modern reimagining of the beloved beat’em up game that first graced arcades (remember those?) in 1987.

Double Dragon Revive will bring fans “modern belt-scroll action and exhilarating gameplay.” While the game looks different, fans of the franchise will be happy to see their favorite characters, Billy and Jimmy Lee, back in action and put their hands and feet on Black Warriors’ goons who plague the streets of New York City.

The game will remain true to its roots, but Double Dragon Revive will have the touch of a fighting game thanks to Arc System Works’ involvement in the project.

Players can dish out powerful damage with Billy and Jimmy’s repertoire of martial arts moves, steal weapons, and even use the environment to their advantage, making Double Dragon Revive more than just a button-mashing experience.

All of the characters from the original game return with fresh, new 3D designs.

The game kicks and punches onto PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam next year, but there is no word on how much it will cost.

If we had to guess, it would probably cost between $29.99 and $39.99.

Double Dragon Revive is the latest game in the franchise following 2023’s Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons, which turned the game into a roguelike adventure.

There’s been a renaissance going on in the beat ’em up genre with games like TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, Streets of Rage 4, and the forthcoming G.I. Joe: Wrath of Cobra.

Danny Elfman Hit With Defamation Lawsuit Over Public Denial of Sexual Abuse Allegations

Film composer Danny Elfman is facing a libel lawsuit over statements he made to the media last year defending himself from claims that he sexually abused a former friend and fellow composer.

In a case filed Wednesday (July 10) in Los Angeles court, Nomi Abadi accused Elfman of defaming her in his response to a July 2023 article in Rolling Stone, which detailed Abadi’s allegations that Elfman had repeatedly sexually harassed her, exposed himself and masturbated in front of her.

Her lawyers say that after Abadi “truthfully relayed facts” to Rolling Stone, Elfman attempted to “prop up his checkered reputation by destroying Nomi’s credibility” with “appalling lies” that branded her as a “liar, homewrecker, and an extortionist.”

Trending on Billboard

“Defamation law provides a remedy to those individuals who, because of wretched lies about their integrity, can no longer succeed on their merits in the marketplace,” her attorneys write in the lawsuit, obtained by Billboard. “It would be difficult to find an individual more meriting such a remedy than plaintiff Nomi Abadi.”

A representative for Elfman did not immediately return a request for comment on Thursday (July 11).

Last year’s Rolling Stone article reported that Elfman and Abadi had entered into a previously unreported $830,000 settlement in 2018 to resolve her accusations. It also reported that Abadi had recently sued Elfman for breach of contract, claiming he had missed payments required by the earlier settlement.

The article detailed Abadi’s allegations against Elfman at length. In a police report cited in the story, she claimed that over the course of nearly a year, Elfman had exposed himself and masturbated multiple times in front of her without her consent. In one particularly graphic accusation from the police report, Elfman allegedly presented her with a martini glass that Abadi claimed Elfman said was filled with semen.

Elfman — a prolific film composer who has written more than 100 film scores and composed the famous intro to The Simpsons — responded in the article with an extensive statement. Calling the allegations “vicious and wholly false,” he described Abadi as having a “childhood crush” on him and intending to “break up my marriage and replace my wife.” Elfman said that when he attempted to distance himself from her, “she made it clear that I would pay for having rejected her.”

According to Abadi’s new case, those statements to Rolling Stone were clearly defamatory — falsely portraying her as “a scorned woman seeking revenge and money.”

“In so doing, Elfman and his agents left Nomi’s career ambitions in tatters, requiring the commencement of this action,” her lawyers write. “In publicly branding Nomi as a liar, and a failed temptress who lied about him for reasons of revenge and greed, Elfman and his representatives defamed Nomi.”

Rolling Stone (which is owned by the same parent company as Billboard) is not named in the lawsuit nor accused of any wrongdoing.

Beyond Elfman’s statement, the new case also takes aim at two more factual assertions relayed by an unnamed “rep for Elfman” to Rolling Stone. In one, the representative denied the martini glass allegation, claiming it had actually been filled with “moisturizing cream” and was intended as a joke. In another, the rep addressed a claim that Elfman had snapped nude images of Abadi, arguing that it had been her idea and that she had “disrobed almost immediately without any encouragement.”

In her new lawsuit, Abadi said those claims were also false and defamatory: “Nomi did not initiate the nude photography,” her lawyers write in their complaint. “Elfman coerced her into it. Elfman masturbated in front of Nomi, afterwards apologizing to her and promising not to do so again.”

The lawsuit does not specify how much money Abadi is seeking in damages.

Eminem Calls ‘The Death of Slim Shady’ a ‘Conceptual Album,’ Implores Fans to Listen in Order

Eminem has revealed that his The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce) is a “conceptual album,” which appears to be the first of his Hall of Fame career.

With his 12th studio album set to arrive on Friday (July 12), the “Without Me” rapper gave fans a warning and some insight into his project that’s mere hours away.

Slim Shady took to X on Thursday (July 11), where he explained that he’s delivering a concept album, so the tracklist’s sequencing is intentional, meaning listeners should press play it listen to TDOSS in the order he decided to fully understand Em’s vision, and not skip around.

“Public service announcement: the ‘death of slim shady’ is a conceptual album, therefore, if you listen to songs out of order they might not make sense,” he wrote. “Enjoy.”

Trending on Billboard

While streaming can lead to listeners playing whichever songs they choose, fans flooded his replies, willing to oblige: “We will listen in order boss!”

There was also plenty of debate about Eminem’s last concept album or if he has one at all. The consensus seemed to be that he doesn’t have a true “conceptual album” all the way through, but 2009’s Relapse would qualify as the closest thing to it.

However, There’s been numerous occasions where his tracks have been connected conceptually in the past, like on Revival with “Castle” and “Arose.”

The Death of Slim Shady appears to revolve around killing off his signature alter ego. The project boasts 19 tracks, but features remain unknown.

Em kicked off the rollout of TDOSS with “Houdini,” which landed at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for his highest charting entry of the decade. He followed-up with “Tobey” featuring Big Sean and BabyTron, which debuted at No. 95 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Find Eminem’s tweet below and look for the album on Friday.

There doesn’t seem to be an end in sight to the “Not Like Us” wave. DeMar DeRozan has explained his cameo in the video.

As reported by Hype Beast the Sacramento Kings shooting guard recently paid a visit to Fox 40. During his conversation with Sean Cunningham he discussed joining the team after being traded from the Toronto Raptors. He made it clear that he is here to win. “I want to be one of those guys that hits the beam,” he said. “I will work my butt off more than ever to make sure the city gets what it deserves. I just want to win at the highest levels.”

While the focus of the interview was his future with the team he did speak to why he briefly appeared in the “Not Like Us” video. “Kendrick been a friend of mine, family — damn near family, for a long time, for a while. We’re from the same city, we grew up damn near in the same neighborhood,” DeRozan said. “So it’s always been there. It hasn’t always been publicized, but, you know, that’s basically family.” Even though he seemingly has a strong bond with K Dot he says Drake’s music will still airplay at the Sacramento Kings’ Golden 1 Center. “We love Drake. We love Drake. We can always play him” he said.

Here’s How Much Travis Kelce Says Taylor Swift’s Super Bowl Suite Cost

Taylor Swift was one of the most newsworthy parts of the 2024 Super Bowl — outside of the actual game, of course. But according to Travis Kelce, it cost quite a pretty penny for her and her friends to be there.

In a clip from the new Netflix documentary Receiver, which premiered Wednesday (July 10), the 34-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end seemingly revealed the jaw-dropping price tag of the private suites at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas while conversing with the San Francisco 49ers’ George Kittle ahead of the big game. When Kittle tells Kelce that he “can’t” swing a suite, the latter asks, “Why, ’cause they’re f–king 3 million dollars?”

“I didn’t know if you guys were teaming up with other players or something,” the New Heights host added, appearing to shake his head at the high cost.

Trending on Billboard

The episode was filmed before the Super Bowl, which ended with the Chiefs winning their second Lombardi trophy in a row. Kelce’s superstar girlfriend watched the game from one of the aforementioned suites alongside the athlete’s family and a list of friends that included Ice Spice, Lana Del Rey and Blake Lively.

Though there’s no telling how Kelce and the “Anti-Hero” singer may have split the bill, Swift almost definitely could’ve covered the cost on her own — it was first reported that the pop star had reached billionaire status in October 2023, six months after which Forbes confirmed the estimation.

Since the Super Bowl, Kelce has enjoyed much of his off-season by spending time with Swift on her global Eras Tour, which will next set up shop in Milan for two shows at San Siro July 13-14. His appearances on the trek may soon become fewer and farther between, though, as the Chiefs gear up for training camp this month.

Attorney Representing Alleged Diddy Sex Trafficking Victim Says An Indictment Coming Soon

Weeks ago it was reported that a grand jury had been empaneled in connection with the feds’ investigation into Diddy. Now, it seems like an indictment is all about inevitable as the music icon continues to keep a low profile.

According to TMZ, an attorney for one of Diddy’s alleged sex trafficking victims says that an indictment for the embattled music mogul should be coming down any day now as authorities seem to have enough evidence to lay down the hammer on “Brother Love” in a court of law.

Per TMZ:

Adria English’s attorney Ariel Mitchell-Kidd joined us on “TMZ Live” Wednesday and told us a possible criminal indictment against the Bad Boy founder is coming sooner than later, and perhaps even “very shortly.”

Mitchell-Kidd is definitely in the know here … her client is the former porn star who recently filed a bombshell lawsuit accusing Diddy of sexual assault and sex trafficking.

Adria’s lawsuit is among several accusing Diddy of sexual assault, human trafficking and other serious offenses … including the one he settled with Cassie, which mentioned the now-infamous video of him brutally beating her in a hotel hallway.

At this point, the only way Diddy can avoid prison is by running for President and winning. Unfortunately, he’s already alienated the Hip-Hop community with his atrocious actions, and y’all already know he’s not getting any support from the MAGA faithful. In other words, he’s a**ed out on these streets.

While Diddy has been seen enjoying his life more as of late, such as white water rafting with friends, it could be that the man is enjoying some carefree freedom before he has to deal with the harsh consequences that he’s carved out for himself. Just sayin’.

What do y’all think will happen? Will Diddy be indicted and ultimately sent to prison? Will he buy his way out? Let us know in the comments section below.

Alfredo Olivas Talks ‘Imaginación,’ His Norteño-Country Style, Collaborations & More

Five months after releasing the first single from what will be his next album, Mexican singer-songwriter Alfredo Olivas offers another preview with “Imaginación,” a norteño song with country elements that follows the same line of his “Asignatura Pendiente” released in February.

“That sound that has worked for us and that people like a lot is something that already distinguishes Alfredo Olivas’ music — and this song could not be the exception,” the artist tells Billboard Español. Announced as the focus track of his new LP, due out soon on Fonovisa/Universal Music, “Imaginación” debuts Thursday (July 11) at 8 p.m. ET and will be available here.

A little more than a decade into his career, Olivas has been consolidating himself as one of the most important singer-songwriters of the regional Mexican music scene. The artist from Sonora, Mexico has a resumé full of accomplishments, ranging from pioneering the corridos alterados, which predate the corridos tumbados and bélicos, to a score of Billboard‘s Regional Mexican Airplay chart entries, including three No. 1s: “El Problema,” “Yo Todo Lo Doy” and “No.”

Trending on Billboard

In 2023, the 30-year-old singer became the highest-grossing artist in Mexico, with 71 sold-out dates in palenques, arenas and, for the first time, stadiums for a solo artist. He recently renewed his contract with Fonovisa Records-Universal Music, the company that has seen him grow professionally.

“Huge legends of Mexican music have been lost in recent years,” says Antonio Silva, managing director of Fonovisa-Disa U.S. & Mexico. “Who among the new phenomena of popularity will go on to establish themselves in far-reaching careers that will generate a legacy? It is clear to me that Alfredo Olivas will achieve that transcendence. In my perception, he has everything it takes: author of all his hits, unique lyrics and a way of performing that has forged his unique style.”

This year, Alfredo Olivas has embarked on a spectacular tour with banda-norteño star Julión Álvarez, Los Prófugos del Anexo, and for the first time in his career he recorded a duet with Alejandro Fernández, “Cobijas Ajenas,” which toppedBillboard‘s Latin Airplay chart, giving Olivas his first overall Latin radio chart leader.

Below, Olivas talks to Billboard Español about this achievement and his big current career moment.

Your lyrics are generally about heartbreak — how do you get inspired if you are in a stable relationship?

It is enough to observe what happens to many people. I express that in my style, and fortunately I have connected with my audience.

In 2023 you were the artist with the most dates in the most important venues in Mexico, including stadiums. What did this mean to you?

It was a great satisfaction, because one dreams of those moments. At the same time, it is a commitment. I have fought hard to get to this point, so I have to take great care of the quality of what I give to the public. I always dreamed of seeing myself on stage like the most important artists. I love to see what’s new in terms of production. Sometimes we have to spend a lot of money — but it doesn’t matter if it’s so that regional Mexican music can be more colorful and of higher quality, and the world can see it that way.

Are you worried about the image of regional Mexican music in the world?

Completely. Sometimes it is annoying that we are wrongly labeled; there is a lot of talent and quality. In my case, I like to have everything in order, the sequences, the setlist — but without losing the essence of our genre, which is the mischievousness and improvisation.

You are a pioneer of a generation that fueled corridos around a decade ago. What do you think of the new stars?

I think it’s very good that there are so many talents. From my point of view, it is a positive thing that they are joining the cause. These new breakthroughs are a positive thing to continue the fight that began many years ago. When Grupo Firme began to break protocols, we could see a new positive era coming for everyone.

You don’t record collaborations often — how did the duet “Cobijas Ajenas” with Alejandro Fernández come about? Did you already know each other?

Of course, there has always been a lot of admiration on my part. Two or three years ago, I had the opportunity to meet him — and although it was my dream that he would record one of my songs, I never told him, I don’t like to force things. Time went by, and now through the record label (Universal Music), they proposed it to me and of course I said yes. The song is by maestro Espinoza Paz.

How did the idea of touring with Julión Álvarez come up if you are both so successful as solo artists?

There is a very special connection, and it shows on stage — we are great friends. He recorded one of my songs, “Sin Memoria,” and made it a big hit. People like us as a duo, the proof is that we have seven sold out shows so far in 2024.

You recently renewed your contract with Universal Music/Fonovisa Records, what makes you continue working with the company after a decade?

It’s just like a marriage relationship — like keeping promises to each other, setting goals and reaching them, loving and respecting each other. I think it is very healthy to leave certain things in the hands of experts, as in this case, the record label. In this way, the artist is dedicated to focus on making music.

Los Tigres del Norte have said that you are one of the young artists they respect because you preserve the traditional style of regional Mexican music. Would you also collaborate with them?

It would blow my mind — I am the first to raise my hand. If they would consider me it would be a tremendous achievement. And now that you mention it, of course we are going to look for that opportunity.

Last year you recorded for the first time a song that you didn’t write, “Ni Con Labios Prestados,” and it was a big hit on streaming platforms. Why did you decide to do it?

The songwriter Aarón “El Pantera” Martínez is one of those who I admire the most — and the truth is that we didn’t know each other personally, only on Instagram. But he knew, as a good poet, to write me with the right words. I listened to it, and from the first moment I liked it. To this day it is one of the most requested songs in my show.

Have you thought about recording more songs by other composers?

It happened with “Ni Con Labios Prestados,” and now with Alejandro Fernández. But I’m not going to lie to you, I have set goals for myself, and one of them is to have my own catalog. I deeply admire Joan Sebastian, Juan Gabriel and Marco Antonio Solís, they are my example to follow as singer-songwriters.
