The Best 2024 Halloween Costumes From Janelle Monáe, Selena Gomez, Tyla & More

This is Halloween! This is Halloween — and today’s biggest stars weren’t afraid to go all out for their costumes this spooky season.

Couples costumes were strong this year, with Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco kicking things off in whimsical Alice in Wonderland-inspired costumes. The Rare Beauty founder rocked a blonde wig and light blue dress as Alice and the music producer opted for full makeup as Johnny Depp’s Mad Hatter from Tim Burton’s 2010 movie adaptation of the book.

As usual, celebrities also did some major photoshoots to accompany their costumes, as Janelle Monáe showed off her photo-realistic costume as the alien E.T. from the iconic 1982 film. Dressed in a full-body recreation of the original puppet from the film, Monáe modeled a number of looks from the movie.

Megan Thee Stallion channeled a fan-favorite animated character by portraying Starfire from DC Comics. Khalid also continued the cartoon character theme with two costumes, Brock from the Pokémon franchise and Gerald from Hey Arnold!. Additionally, Lizzo showcase her self-described “LizzOzempic” outfit, inspired by a recent episode of South Park.

Halle Berry was an inspiration for music artists this year, with Tyla, Halle Bailey and Coi Leray dressed up as Sharon Stone from 1994’s The Flintstones,  “Jinx” in 2002’s James Bond flick Die Another Day and Patience Philips in Catwoman, respectively. “And they all crushed it,” Berry wrote in response on X. “The girls know how to make my day.”

Below, find the best costumes from musicians and celebrities, including some perfect musician-themed ideas, including Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos dressing up as Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce at the U.S. Open in September. See all the photos below, updating through Halloween (Oct. 31).

The Weeknd & Anitta Deliver ‘São Paulo’ Song & Video: Stream It Now

The Weeknd and Anitta finally delivered their “São Paulo” collaboration on Wednesday (Oct. 30).

The song came along with a new music video, which — as teased in cryptic previews for the collab — featured Anitta with an exaggerated baby bump. In the clip, Anitta’s pregnant belly sings The Weeknd’s parts, with lips emerging where her belly button is.

The Weeknd (real name Abel Tesfaye) previously told Billboard Brazil in his cover story that his frequent collaborator Mike Dean had asked Anitta for a vocal recording to complement The Weeknd’s set last October when he performed two nights in São Paulo during his After Hours Til Dawn Tour. “What she sent was so awesome that we created the song,” the “Blinding Lights” hitmaker said. The two debuted “São Paulo” in the titular city’s Estádio MorumBIS on Sept. 7 during a special one-night-only show that was livestreamed. “We knew it was too special to just play on stage. We saw great potential in the song and found the beat, which is the heart of the show,” he added of “São Paulo.”

“I wrote some verses as a joke and never imagined they would become serious. Suddenly, I received the finished song. I loved it! I felt very honored and flattered,” Anitta told Billboard Brazil. “I’ve always been a big fan of his and his work. I never imagined this would happen, and now it’s a dream come true. It’s a little more Brazilian funk, as promised, around the world.”

He premiered other new songs from his upcoming album Hurry Up Tomorrow, including “Dancing With the Flames” and “Timeless” with Playboi Carti that have since been released. The former reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, while the latter peaked at No. 3, making it The Weeknd’s 19th top 10 hit and highest-charting debut on the all-genre songs tally and Carti’s fifth top 10.

Halle Berry woke up to a surprise when seeing costumes of her characters over the years going viral on social media. The “Water” singer nearly broke the internet with her rendition of Sharon Stone from 1994’s The Flintstones while Bailey elected to go with Berry as “Jinx” in 2002’s James Bond flick Die Another Day.

Coi Leray transformed into Berry as Patience Philips in Catwoman and the Academy Award-winning actress was blown away by the love from the next generation.

“And they all crushed it,” Berry wrote to X. “The girls know how to make my day.”

She later called seeing the homage as the “best compliment ever.”

“Thank u i love you !!!,” the Little Mermaid actress responded.

Berry and Bailey actually linked up back in February at a Los Angeles Galaxy and Inter Miami soccer game in the MLS.

“My night was made tonight i was so nervous with the icon @halleberry,” Bailey wrote to X with a pair of photos alongside the Gothika star.

With Catwoman turning 20 earlier this year, Halle Berry celebrated the blockbuster’s 20th anniversary with a topless photo shoot and her pair of cats.

“And STILL… meow! It’s been 20 years today since I had the honor of bringing this iconic character to life. She will always be close to my heart and I will forever be Patience Phillips aka CATWOMAN,” she captioned the IG post in July. “Thank you @missjee79! When these black beauties showed up in my yard searching for their mother, Jee helped us through the rescue process. Forever grateful!”

With Halloween set for Thursday (Oct. 31), this is only the beginning of what should be a spooky all-weekend affair. Berry actually got a head start on everyone over the weekend when she dressed up as a wizard.

Tetris Kelly:

Bad Bunny has responded to Tony Hinchcliffe’s tasteless joke at a recent Trump rally. The video was first showcased at Bad Bunny’s stadium concert in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 2021, and is now his response to Hinchcliffe’s Trump rally “joke” where the comedian called Bunny’s homeland of Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.” Bad Bunny wasn’t the only Puerto Rican celebrity to speak out. Ricky Martin and JLo also responded by amplifying an Instagram reel posted by Vice President Harris where she talks about starting an Opportunity Economy Task Force for Puerto Rico.

11 Horror Movie Tie-In Songs That Hit the Billboard Hot 100

These artists scared up cinematic hits on the Boo-board Haunted 100.

From Alice Cooper’s “He’s Back” (Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives) and Goo Goo Dolls’ “I’m Awake Now” (Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare) to Ramones’ “Pet Sematary” (Pet Sematary) and AC/DC’s “Who Made Who” (Maximum Overdrive), the horror genre has spawned some of the most memorable (and certainly some of the most unashamedly cheesy) original movie songs. But only a select few have made the leap from the silver screen to the Billboard Hot 100.

None of the aforementioned classics achieved the feat. And neither did Dokken’s “Dream Warriors” (A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors), The Cramps’ “Surfin’ Dead” (The Return of the Living Dead) or Megadeth’s cover of Cooper’s Hot 100 hit “No More Mr. Nice Guy” (Shocker). It’s the same story with 21st century offerings such as Panic! At the Disco’s “New Perspective” (Jennifer’s Body), Demi Lovato’s “Still Alive” (Scream VI) and Charli XCX’s “Hot Girl” (Bodies Bodies Bodies).

Many of the horror movie tie-ins that did make the Hot 100 weren’t recorded specifically for their respective films, either. Mike Oldfield’s truly chilling “Tubular Bells” (No. 7, 1974), for example, appeared on his first studio album several months before ramping up scares in The Exorcist. And while the likes of Billy Idol’s “Eyes Without A Face” and Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” reference spookfests from yesteryear, they were only inspired by them.

Here is a look at 11 horror movie hits which defeated the baddie and staked their claim as the Hot 100’s final girls.

Two More Young Thug Co-Defendants Take Plea Deals in YSL RICO Trial

Two more of Young Thug’s co-defendants are taking plea deals in the long-running Atlanta racketeering case against the rapper’s alleged YSL gang, leaving Thug facing trial with just two other defendants.

A week after improper testimony from a state’s witness threw the trial into chaos and sparked talk of a mistrial, prosecutors and defense attorneys continued to show a willingness Wednesday (Oct. 30) to strike deals rather than risk starting the massive trial over from scratch.

At the hearing, Marquavius “Qua” Huey pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy, robbery and several other counts, with prosecutors agreeing to drop a slew of others. Under the deal, Huey received a sentence of 25 years, but with just nine to be served in prison — a sharp decrease from the life sentences he was facing if convicted on all the charges.

Another defendant, Rodalius “Lil Rod” Ryan, pled guilty to a single racketeering conspiracy charge and was sentenced to 10 years, which was commuted to time served since he is already serving a life sentence for a 2019 murder.

The two new pleas came a day after Quamarvious Nichols agreed to plead guilty to a single racketeering charge in exchange for prosecutors dropping all other charges against him, including murder and illegal firearms possession. Under the deal, Nichols was sentenced to 20 years, but will only serve seven in prison and the rest on probation.

The flurry of deals follows an incident last week in which a government witness accidentally revealed sensitive information to the jury, prompting defense attorneys to demand a mistrial. Judge Paige Reese Whitaker, who chided prosecutors for “sloppiness” and has repeatedly criticized their handling of the case, said she would consider such a ruling.

Since then, testimony has been halted as prosecutors and defense attorneys have negotiated plea deals behind closed doors. Both sides seem willing to consider compromise rather than a costly redo of the trial, which has stretched across 10 months of jury selection and 11 months of testimony to become the longest-ever in state history.

Whether Thug himself, a Grammy-winning superstar who prosecutors claim was the leader of the gang, will also reach such a deal remains to be seen. The trial is scheduled to resume on Thursday morning (Oct. 31).

Thug was indicted in May 2022 along with dozens of others over allegations that his “YSL” group was not really a record label called “Young Stoner Life” but rather a violent Atlanta gang called “Young Slime Life.” The case, built around Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) law, claims the group committed murders, carjackings, armed robberies, drug dealing and other crimes over the course of a decade.

The pleas struck Tuesday (Oct. 29) and Wednesday mean that Thug (Jeffery Williams) is now facing the remainder of the trial with just two other defendants, Deamonte “Yak Gotti” Kendrick and Shannon Stillwell. Kendrick and Stillwell stand accused of carrying out the 2015 murder of rival gang leader Donovan Thomas, a crime that figures prominently in the prosecution’s case.
