SiriusXM Records $2.96 Billion Loss After Tracking Stock Merger

SiriusXM reported a 4% decline in revenue and a nearly $3 billion net loss last quarter after it completed a financial maneuver that was aimed at simplifying its publicly traded stock, the company reported on Thursday.

The $2.96 billion quarterly net loss stemmed from a $3.36 billion non-cash impairment charge, a type of accounting expense the means an asset’s value on the company’s balance sheet was written down. When SiriusXM merged with Liberty Media’s tracking stock in September, Liberty Media valued the company’s goodwill based on a sustained lower stock price.

The charge does not impact on SiriusXM’s cash flow. However, lower subscriber revenue and softer-than-projected advertising revenue in the second half of this year caused the company to trim its 2024 revenue goal to $8.675 billion from $8.75 billion targeted earlier in the year.

Trending on Billboard

SiriusXM’s stock price was down 3.27% at $26.50 as of 11:20 a.m. in New York.

The company reported total third quarter revenue fell 4% to $2.17 billion, and adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and assets (EBITDA) fell 7% to $693 million, representing a 32% margin, compared to the year-ago quarter.

Tom Barry, SiriusXM’s chief financial officer, described seeing green shoots from the company’s investments in its subscription business and content, including 14,000 more net self-pay subscribers and a 6% increase in podcast advertising revenue.

“We are focused on executing our long-term strategy of strengthening our subscription business, enhancing our advertising offerings, and optimizing costs as we reinvest in the business,” Barry said in a statement.

The growth in self-pay subscribers due to lower churn reversed the contraction the company saw in the third quarter last year when it lost 96,000 subscribers. SiriusXM’s average revenue per user fell $0.53 to $15.16 due to a “higher proportion of subscribers on self-pay promotional and streaming-only plans,” the company said.

Known for its in-car satellite radio subscriptions, SiriusXM launched a new in-car subscription priced at $9.99 for just SiriusXM’s music channels. The company reported seeing podcast and on-demand listeners increasing on the app it rolled out last year.

The company invests heavily in its content. In the third quarter, SiriusXM signed an exclusive deal with “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper and launched shows with former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, Gen Z political commentator Dylan Douglas, and the beloved former football coaches Jimbo Fisher and Bill Belichick.

Revenue from the company’s Pandora and off-platform business segment slipped 1% to $544 million as Pandora Plus and Pandora Premium’s self-pay subscriber-based declined by 76,000 to 5.9 million. The company said the decline stemmed from fewer trial starts and churn after the price of certain plans was hiked.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ ‘Maps’ Maintains No. 1 on TikTok Billboard Top 50, A.J. & Big Justice Make First Chart

Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ “Maps” becomes the fifth song in the 13-month history of the TikTok Billboard Top 50 chart to reign for at least four weeks, spending its fourth straight frame at No. 1 via the Nov. 2-dated ranking, while A.J. & Big Justice’s social media smash “We Bring the Boom” is one of the week’s top debuts.

The TikTok Billboard Top 50 is a weekly ranking of the most popular songs on TikTok in the United States based on creations, video views and user engagement. The latest chart reflects activity from Oct. 21-27. Activity on TikTok is not included in Billboard charts except for the TikTok Billboard Top 50.

“Maps” joins similar reigns by Alek Olsen’s “Someday I’ll Get It” and Flo Milli’s “Never Lose Me,” both in 2024, for four weeks each; Mitski’s “My Love Mine All Mine” ruled for six weeks in 2023; while the all-time leader, Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby,” secured the top spot for 10 weeks beginning in May.

Trending on Billboard

Released in 2003 on Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ debut LP Fever to Tell, “Maps” reigns via a pair of trends on TikTok, one involving a dance while the other has creators using a filter to remove their facial features and have them cascade back down onto their countenance in the clip. While the original version of the song has been widely used, a sped-up remix has also contributed to the success of “Maps” on the chart.

The top three of the TikTok Billboard Top 50 remains intact from the previous week (Oct. 26), with Alphaville’s “Forever Young” and Akon’s “Akon’s Beautiful Day” following at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. While it’s Akon’s second week at No. 3, Alphaville has now stood at No. 2 for three weeks in a row and hasn’t fallen below No. 3 since mid-September.

Vines’ “Being Loved Isn’t the Same As Being Understood,” following its No. 8 debut on the Oct. 26 survey, crashes the party as the lone new entrant in the top five, jumping to No. 4 in week two. The song, self-released in March by the artist known also as Cassie Wieland, continues its ascent thanks to a trend on TikTok where the user posts about either themselves or someone they know, usually as a photo collage, to “sum up the kind of person” they are or were. Some of the top-performing clips discuss a person who has since died.

“Being Loved Isn’t the Same As Being Understood” sported a 99% leap in official U.S. streams to 116,000 in the week ending Oct. 24, according to Luminate.

Gigi Perez’s “Sailor Song,” following its first week in the top 10 (No. 10) on the Oct. 26 chart, also rises four spots, leaping 10-6. The 2024 tune, which leapt another 4% in streams to 13.5 million in the week ending Oct. 24, has benefited from a variety of trends since it first began exploding on TikTok in the summer, often relationship- and romance-related.

It’s followed by Oscar Maydon and Fuerza Regida’s “Tu Boda,” which vaults 14-7, its first week in the top 10. The song has exploded on TikTok – as well as on streaming services – in recent weeks, particularly following the release of its music video on Oct. 14.

“Tu Boda” concurrently catapults 157% in streams to 15.2 million in the week ending Oct. 24, enough to blast the song to a No. 23 debut on the Billboard Hot 100.

The tune’s TikTok ecosystem includes edits and trends involving the 2005 movie Corpse Bride, plus lip-synch content.

The Cramps’ cover of “Goo Goo Muck” sports the week’s top TikTok Billboard Top 50 debut, starting at No. 9. Released in 1981 on the rockers’ album Psychedelic Jungle, the tune returned to prominence in 2022 when it was featured in the Netflix series Wednesday.

In recent weeks on TikTok, “Goo Goo Muck” has been embraced in a link to its status as a Halloween-time standard, following a trend where the user is running from danger but then runs back when realizing their pursuer is attractive, often starting to take off their shirt in the process.

Gabriela Bee’s “Maybe” is the third new entrant into the top 10, rounding it out at No. 10 after its No. 11 debut on Oct. 26. Usages of the song revolve around its “Maybe one day I’ll get married/ And you’ll be my maid of honor” lyric, with creators either remembering their own weddings or noting who they’d like to be the maid of honor at their wedding.

And A.J. & Big Justice bring the boom to the TikTok Billboard Top 50, with “We Bring the Boom!” debuting at No. 15. The father-and-son TikTok stars released what’s become their theme song to streaming services in July, and the tune has only risen as prominence as the duo (plus others often featured in their uploads, from family members to The Rizzler) has gained in popularity on the platform, currently boasting over 2 million followers.

The majority of the top-performing videos using “We Bring the Boom!” are from the A.J. & Big Justice account itself, though others have gotten in on the song’s accompanying dance as well — including professional athletes in game.

In the tracking week ending Oct. 24, “We Bring the Boom!” earned 327,000 streams in the U.S., up 24%.

See the full TikTok Billboard Top 50 here. You can also tune in each Friday to SiriusXM’s TikTok Radio (channel 4) to hear the premiere of the chart’s top 10 countdown at 3 p.m. ET, with reruns heard throughout the week.

Nicky Jam Walks Back Donald Trump Endorsement After Puerto Rico Joke Fallout

Donald Trump Holds Las Vegas Rally As He Campaigns For President

Nicky Jam, a popular Reggaeton artist, was one of many Donald Trump’s celebrity supporters who hit the stump with the presidential hopeful. After a series of tasteless jokes were delivered at a recent rally held by Donald Trump in New York, Nicky Jam is now walking back his endorsement of the former president.

Just last month, Nicky Jam was a proud Donald Trump supporter and appeared onstage with him while sporting a Make America Great Again cap. However, comedian Tony Hinchliffe unleashed jokes at the expense of Puerto Rico, referring to the island as “garbage” along with other racially charged barbs.

Taking to Instagram and speaking in Spanish, Nicky Jam denounced Hinchliffe’s insults then explained to his fans that he supported Trump due to concerns over the economy and thought as a businessman, he would improve conditions for all economically.

“I believed it was what’s best for the economy in the United States, where a lot of Latinos live [A] lot of immigrants that are suffering over the state of the economy,” Jam said. “With [Trump] being a businessman, I felt it was the right movement.”

Below, we’re sharing the video Nicky Jam posted to his Instagram page. The comments for the clip have been turned off, however, so we’re not certain how his statements were received among his 43.5 million followers.

Oliver Anthony Music Is Trading the Industry for Ministry — But He’s Still Releasing Songs

Just over a year after Oliver Anthony Music earned a multi-week Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper with his independently released song “Rich Men North of Richmond,” the singer-songwriter says he is aiming at making some big changes and essentially walking away from the music business in order to focus on ministry — though he will still be making music.

In a YouTube video posted on Oct. 29, he noted that his grandfather was a traveling minister and said, “My plan is to change my entire focus to traveling ministry work.” He also added, “I want to create a routing schedule to exist parallel to Nashville that circumvents the monopoly of Live Nation and Ticketmaster, and goes into towns that haven’t had music in them in a long time. It stimulates their economy, showcases their culture, it uses local vendors and local musicians. You’re not having to drive out to Pittsburgh to a concrete amphitheater to see a show. It’s done out on a farm or on a main street that desperately needs the economic impact.”

Billboard has reached out to Live Nation and Ticketmaster for comment.

He also noted that the past year or so of music-industry involvement has “opened my eyes to how much control and how much visibility there is on the top down.”

While he plans to continuing releasing music, those songs would come as part of his The Rural Revival Project, which would “be set up legally as a ministry,” he noted, and would aid in revitalizing farming and other rural communities.

The website for his Rural Revival Project also notes its aim to provide a place where “people who have just gotten out of rehab, with PTSD, and people are are depressed and suicidal can come here and reconnect with nature and learn to exist outside of a system that has just kind of been placed on us as a generation.”

“Rich Men North of Richmond” first went viral in August 2023, when a video of Oliver Anthony Music (real name Chris Lunsford) performing the song was posted on the YouTube channel for Radiowv. Since then, the video has earned 173 million views. “Rich Men North of Richmond” quickly topped the Hot 100, and he became the first artist in history to debut at No. 1 on the chart without previously having a song on the charts. Following the song’s success, more of his music populated charts, with his track “Ain’t Got a Dollar” topping Spotify’s Viral 50 list. He eschewed signing with a major label, but did partner with booking agency UTA.

“Rich Men North of Richmond” also became a lightning rod for political tension on both sides, drawing praise from right-leaning pundits who championed the song’s sentiments, while drawing ire from left-leaning commentators. In August 2023, Oliver Anthony Music said in a Facebook post, “‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ is about corporate-owned D.C. politicians on both sides.”

In April, he released the album Hymnal of a Troubled Man’s Mind, which featured Oliver Anthony Music offering a mix of music and scripture verses.

The first show he will play as part of the Rural Revival Project inititive comes on Nov. 2 with a hurricane relief concert in Morgantown, W.V.

Tyler, the Creator’s ‘Noid’ Scores Top 10 Debut on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Despite Mid-Week Release

Tyler, the Creator’s new era is already off to a strong start, as the rapper’s “Noid” storms onto Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart (dated Nov. 2) at No. 9, despite partial availability for the chart’s tracking week. The song was released Monday, Oct. 21, allowing for roughly four days of eligibility for the streaming, sales and airplay-based chart’s latest cycle, which ran Oct. 18 – 24.

For the tracking week, “Noid,” released on Columbia Records, registered 10.5 million official U.S. streams, according to Luminate, sparking its No. 6 debut on the R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs chart. Streaming powers virtually all the song’s activity for its Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart debut, with a negligible number of download sales and minimal radio airplay.

“Noid” adds a fourth top 10 to Tyler, the Creator’s account on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. He previously reached the region with the No. 5-peaking “Earfquake” in 2019, a No. 6 hit in 2021’s “Wusyaname,” featuring YoungBoy Never Broke Again and Ty Dolla $ign and again earned a No. 5 best when he and 21 Savage featured on Pharrell Williams’ “Cash In Cash Out” in 2022.

Trending on Billboard

Elsewhere, “Noid” begins at No. 6 on the Hot Rap Songs chart and at No. 43 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.

“Noid” appears on Tyler, the Creator’s new album, Chromakopia. Like its first offering, the album arrived off cycle, reaching consumers on Monday, Oct. 28, and thus will compete with an abbreviated window for Billboard’s album charts for the Oct. 25 – 31 tracking week. Chromakopia is the artist’s first project since 2021’s Call Me If You Get Lost, which became his second consecutive No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 and his fifth career leader on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Accuser Must Reveal Her Identity In Sexual Abuse Lawsuit, Judge Rules

A woman who has accused Sean “Diddy” Combs of rape cannot proceed with her lawsuit under a “Jane Doe” pseudonym, a Manhattan federal judge says – a ruling that could potentially impact the many other cases filed against him by anonymous accusers.

In a decision Wednesday, Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil ruled that the privacy rights of Combs’ alleged victim did not trump the right of all defendants “to defend themselves” in open court against such “heinous” allegations.

“Plaintiff’s interest in avoiding public scrutiny, or even embarrassment, does not outweigh the interests of both Combs and the public in the customary and constitutionally-embedded presumption of openness in judicial proceedings,” the judge wrote.

“Plaintiff has chosen to bring this lawsuit, leveling serious charges against Combs and, as such, she has put her credibility in issue,” the judge added. “Combs is, therefore, entitled to investigate her background and challenge her allegations and her credibility.”

The ruling came in one of at least 15 lawsuits brought against Combs in recent weeks by Texas attorney Tony Buzbee, all of which have been filed under “Doe” pseudonyms. Though Vyskocil’s ruling is not binding on other judges, it could influence how they handle the issue in Buzbee’s other cases, as well as numerous other lawsuits that have been filed anonymously against Combs.

Buzbee did not immediately return a request for comment on Thursday morning.

Combs has faced a flood of abuse accusations over the past year, starting with civil lawsuits and followed by a bombshell federal indictment last month in which prosecutors allege he ran a sprawling criminal operation for years aimed at satisfying his need for “sexual gratification.” If convicted on the charges, which include sex trafficking and racketeering, he faces a potential sentence of life in prison.

In the current case – filed last week by one of the 120 alleged victims that Buzbee claims to represent – the accuser alleges that Comb raped her and threatened her life in 2004 when she was 19 years old.

The case was filed under the Jane Doe pseudonym without prior approval from the judge — a common tactic in such lawsuits but one that Vyskocil ruled Wednesday was technically a violation of federal litigation rules.

In her decision, the judge said anonymous lawsuits are supposed to be the exception rather than the rule – both because American court cases are supposed to be open to the public, and because accused defendants have a right to know who is accusing them of wrongdoing.

Buzbee had argued that abuse accusers can face backlash after filing such cases, and that other accusers might be scared away from speaking out if forced to reveal their identities. Though Vyskocil acknowledged the “toll” that such public scrutiny can take, she repeatedly pointed to the “fundamental unfairness” of allowing only one side to remain anonymous.

“Plaintiff, who is an adult, has now decided to file a lawsuit in which she accuses a famous person of engaging in heinous conduct approximately twenty years ago and, further, accuses a number of businesses of complicity in that alleged conduct,” the judge wrote. “Defendants have a right to defend themselves, including by investigating Plaintiff, and the people have a right to know who is using their courts.”

Donald Trump Greeted By “Dump Trump” Trending Topic On X After Stumbling Toward Garbage Truck

Donald Trump Campaigns In The Swing State Of Wisconsin

Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris will square off on Election Day next week and the race continues to be deadlocked according to national polling numbers. On X, Donald Trump was greeted by a “Dump Trump” trending topic on X after appearing to stumble towards a garbage truck for a media event in Wisconsin.

Donald Trump, 78, was in Green Bay, Wisc. for a campaign event in what was a return jab toward President Joe Biden, who appeared to refer to Trump supporters as “garbage” after a comedian made a crude joke about Puerto Rico and referred to the island as such.

In a clip posted by Matt McDermott on X, formerly Twitter, Trump is seen walking towards a white garbage truck adorned with flags and his name on the side. As he approaches the door, Trump appears to mistime grabbing the handle and looks to be gingerly walking up into the passenger side.

While seated in the garbage truck, Trump took questions from the media but continued to dodge questions regarding comedian Tony Hinchcliffe and claimed that he didn’t know him while passing the scheduling of Hinchcliffe onto his staff.

Conservative commentators have commended Trump for the media event, using it as fuel to egg on voters who may have been on the fence. Although President Biden clarified his comments, some observers felt that the mention of the MSG rally by Biden was a gaffe that Vice President Harris could ill afford. Harris and other Democrats have distanced themselves from Biden’s comments, but it hasn’t stopped the flurry of reactions that ensued.

Under the “Dump Trump” trending topic, users on X are noting that Donald Trump looks physically unable to handle the rigors of the campaign trail. Other replies also highlight former Trump allies aiming at him.

On X, we’ve gathered some replies and they’re listed out below.
