ROSÉ & Bruno Mars’ ‘APT.’ Adds Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard Global Charts, Sets Record Streaming Streak

ROSÉ and Bruno Mars’ “APT.” rents a second week at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. A week earlier, the song debuted as each artist’s second leader on each chart.

Notably, the collaboration by BLACKPINK member ROSÉ and Mars becomes the first song since the worldwide surveys began in September 2020 to have tallied at least 200 million streams globally in multiple weeks.

Trending on Billboard

Elsewhere, aespa’s “Whiplash” bounds to the top 10 of both the Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S.; Tyler, the Creator’s “St. Chroma,” featuring Daniel Caesar, debuts in the Global 200’s top 10; and JIN’s “I’ll Be There” arrives in the top tier on Global Excl. U.S.

The Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts rank songs based on streaming and sales activity culled from more than 200 territories around the world, as compiled by Luminate. The Global 200 is inclusive of worldwide data and the Global Excl. U.S. chart comprises data from territories excluding the United States.

Chart ranks are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations.

“APT.,” released Oct. 18, tops the Global 200 for a second week with 207.5 million streams (down 8% week-over-week), as well as 17,000 sold (down 40%), worldwide Oct. 25-31. The song claims the sixth-biggest streaming week since the Global 200 began – and becomes the first title since the chart began to have logged at least 200 million streams globally in multiple weeks.

Below is a look at all six weeks in which songs have topped 200 million streams worldwide; one belongs to BLACKPINK and now two to the group’s ROSÉ:

  • 289.2 million, “Butter,” BTS, Global 200 dated June 5, 2021
  • 224.5 million, “APT.,” ROSÉ & Bruno Mars, Nov. 2, 2024
  • 217.1 million, “Seven,” Jung Kook feat. Latto, July 29, 2023
  • 217.1 million, “Flowers,” Miley Cyrus, Feb. 4, 2023
  • 212.1 million, “Pink Venom,” BLACKPINK, Sept. 3, 2022
  • 207.5 million, “APT.,” ROSÉ & Bruno Mars, Nov. 9, 2024

“APT.” introduces ROSÉ’s solo studio album, rosie, due Dec. 6.

Lady Gaga and Mars’ “Die With a Smile” holds at No. 2 on the Global 200, following eight weeks at No. 1, the most for any song this year. It drew 126 million streams (up 4%) worldwide Oct. 25-31 (aided by three new mixes and sale-pricing) and has tallied over 100 million streams globally in each of the last nine weeks, the most in a row since The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber’s “Stay” also linked nine triple-digit weeks in August-October 2021.

The Global 200’s top five is stationary, rounded out by Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” at No. 3, following three weeks at No. 1 beginning in August; Oscar Maydon and Fuerza Regida’s “Tu Boda” at its No. 4 high; and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” at No. 5, after three nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 beginning in June.

aespa’s “Whiplash” flies 30-8 on the Global 200 following its first full week of tracking (after it was released Oct. 21), led by 46.1 million streams worldwide Oct. 25-31. The South Korean pop group achieves its first top 10 on the chart.

Tyler, the Creator also collects his first Global 200 top 10, as “St. Chroma,” featuring Daniel Caesar, debuts at No. 10 with 42 million global streams. Notably, the song was released Oct. 28 and amassed its streaming sum from just four days during the tracking week. It’s from his new album, Chromakopia, which debuts at No. 1 on the U.S.-based Billboard 200. Caesar adds his second Global 200 top 10, after Justin Bieber’s “Peaches,” on which he and Giveon are featured, led for two weeks in 2021.

“APT.” concurrently rules Global Excl. U.S. for a second week, with 187 million streams (down 6%) and 12,000 sold (down 40%) outside the U.S. Oct. 25-31.

As on the Global 200, “Die With a Smile” ranks at No. 2 on Global Excl. U.S. following eight weeks at No. 1.

Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” keeps at No. 3 on Global Excl. U.S., after three weeks at No. 1 beginning in August, and Oscar Maydon and Fuerza Regida’s “Tu Boda” rises 5-4 for a new high.

aespa’s “Whiplash” vaults 18-5 on Global Excl. U.S. with 43.3 million streams outside the U.S. The act earns its first top five hit on the chart and its second top 10, after “Supernova” hit No. 6 in June.

Plus, JIN’s “I’ll Be There” launches at No. 10 on Global Excl. U.S. with 34.9 million streams and 28,000 sold outside the U.S. from its Oct. 25 release through Oct. 31. The BTS member posts his second solo top 10, after “The Astronaut” rocketed to No. 6 in 2022.

Below is a recap, with songs ranked by peak position, of BTS members’ 18 Global Excl. U.S. top 10s outside the group; Jung Kook boasts seven solo top 10s, including three No. 1s; Jimin has tallied five top 10s, including one leader; V has earned four top 10s; and JIN has now logged two. Will Ferrell Does Late-Hour Ad Blitz For Kamala Harris

HipHopWired Featured Video

US-ENTERTAINMENT-FILM

Will Ferrell has ramped up his support for Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign in its final hours by filming an ad and doing a street comedy sketch.

The presidential election campaign season is coming to a close, and comedian Will Ferrell has been putting huge effort into his support for Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris. Last week, he teamed up with fellow comedian Billy Eichner to revive Eichner’s beloved video series with a special episode entitled Billy on The Street with Will Ferrell: Loud White Men For Kamala Harris.

The three-minute commercial shows Eichner and Ferrell on the streets of New York City encountering pedestrians and loudly compelling them to vote for Harris and her running mate Tim Walz and, per a statement from Eicnher’s publicist, “do everything we possibly can to protect Americans from Donald Trump in these crucial final days of Early Voting and exactly one week before Election Day.” The video was a hit online, earning over 12 million views just 24 hours after it premiered on the Bros actor’s social media profiles. It was the latest episode in a series that ran online for two years, raising Eichner’s profile in the comedy world.

Ferrell also starred in an ad specifically for the Harris-Walz campaign where he implores undecided voters – particularly one named Gary who he addresses in a comically menacing fashion. ‘This election is going to be one of the closest in history, your vote will make the difference – that means you Gary…,’ he begins, looking directly into the camera. “Oh, blah, blah, blah, I’m just one person – no, shut the f—k up Gary.” The ad continues with somber music as the Talladega Nights star underscores how close the victory was for President Joe Biden in 2020:  ‘Last time only a few thousand votes kept Trump out of office and this time we will hold you personally responsible,’ before closing out imploring “Gary” to go out and vote.

The ads come as numerous celebrities have thrown their weight behind Vice President Harris’ campaign in the past weeks and days, with Cardi B and Alicia Keys joining her for campaign rallies in Wisconsin over the past weekend and famed actor Robert DeNiro was spotted engaging potential voters at the tailgate for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday (November 3).

Artist Responsible For Dwayne Wade Statue Defends His Work, Says Y’all Don’t Know What You’re Talking About

HipHopWired Featured Video

Detroit Pistons v Miami Heat

The artist responsible for the statue of retired NBA star Dwyane Wade — which has been getting dragged on social media since it was unveiled by the Miami Heat over the weekend is defending his work.  The artist is telling critics that they don’t know anything about what goes into constructing and maintaining such a sculpture.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

Days after people on the internet unanimously responded to the unveiling of the Wade statue with a resounding, “Harpo, who dis man?” the artist, Oscar Leon, told NBC News, “To the critics, there’s a lot that needs to be understood.”

“We have to seal everything to keep the integrity of the sculpture,” Leon continued. “However, that does create a funny little side effect of being glossy in areas that we are not used to seeing when we look at somebody in the flesh.”

Leon appears to be under the impression that the statue’s “glossy” finish in certain “areas” is why people have been dogging the sculpture, not because it looks like he put Trick Daddy’s head on top of Wade’s body.

“The sealer definitely creates a little bit of, um, a misunderstanding to the eye. So, I would definitely encourage everyone to come to Miami and view it in person,” he explained.

Sir…

At this point, most people have seen this statue honoring Wade from every angle and camera distance imaginable, and so far we haven’t seen a single image of it that doesn’t look like a civil rights violation in a Heat jersey. It just really doesn’t seem like viewing the statue in person is going to change anyone’s perception of it.

To be fair, Wade himself also appeared to defend Leon’s work, and he also did so by pointing out that common folk don’t know the process that went into its creation.

From thegrio:

“I don’t know a lot of people with a statue. Do you know anybody? In here, y’all know anything about the process of the statue?” Wade asked the media Monday, Sports Illustrated reported. “No one out there does, neither. It’s an unbelievable process to be a part of and it’s a complicated process.”

Leon told NBC News the sculpture took over 800 hours to produce, sixteen of which were spent with Wade. The artists received final approval from Wade’s closest friends and Miami Heat executives. In posts to his Instagram Stories, Wade revealed more of the behind-the-scenes process, including shots of himself posing with a version of the statue’s face.

OK, fine, so the piece took a long time and a lot of effort to make.

That still doesn’t change that it looks like Joe Jackson in Dwayne Wade’s gear. Jussayin’.

First Look At Secretive Kanye West Documentary Arrives

HipHopWired Featured Video

Anonymous Club Fashion Show - Berlin Fashion Week SS25

A mysterious documentary about Ye aka Kanye West is in the works, and the first image has been revealed to the public.

A new documentary that’s been years in the making about Ye aka Kanye West is now revealing the first image from the film. The film, entitled In Whose Name?, includes never-before-seen footage of West and “promises to offer a unique and cinematic perspective on Ye’s public transformation.” In Whose Name?, which has been in production for six years, will have an exclusive promotional reel screening at the American Film Market on Nov. 7 after a completed deal with Goodfellas and Utopia.

The synopsis of the film reads:

“With a billion-dollar budget and a commitment to truth, Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, invites 18-year-old Nicolas Ballesteros armed with an iPhone on a six-year journey revealing unfiltered aspects of celebrity life which confront the provocative opinions, grand visions and bold contrarianism that defined him as the world’s most controversial artist. The film follows Ye’s ascent to becoming the richest Black man in American history while uncovering why the superstar risked everything he had built in the name of freedom. Examining the culture that birthed the star, ‘In Whose Name?’ explores the overlapping influences of corporate exploitation, racial complexities and psychological struggles inherent in the American dream.”

Outside of the synopsis, observers note that Ye’s recent issues with adidas as well as his spiral into anti-Semitism may very well be discussed in the movie. Ballesteros serves as a producer on the documentary along with Shy Ranje. The executive producer is Justin Staple, and David Bullock is on board as a producer. The movie is currently in post-production at the time of this article’s publication.

“We’re thrilled to present ‘In Whose Name?’ at AFM,” said Marie Zeniter, vice president of sales at Utopia, and Eva Diederix, head of sales at Goodfellas in a statement about the documentary. “This powerful documentary offers an unfiltered view without narration, it invites audiences to draw their own conclusions on themes of fame, religion, and power. We believe audiences globally deserve the chance to witness how one of the world’s most influential figures navigates the complexities and contradictions of celebrity.”

10 Times Quincy Jones Made Awards Show History

Quincy Jones died exactly two weeks before he was set to receive an honorary Oscar at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ 15th Governors Awards on Sunday, Nov. 17. On June 12, when the award was announced, Academy president Janet Yang said in a statement: “Quincy Jones’ artistic genius and relentless creativity have made him one of the most influential musical figures of all time.”

This will be the second honorary Oscar for Jones, who was 91 when he died. He was voted the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award in 1994. Jones accepted that award on the Oscar telecast in 1995 from his longtime friend Oprah Winfrey. He said in part, “This moment, this evening, this spot where I stand tonight was not my destination when I was young and full of vinegar. I did not engineer this journey. To tell you the truth, I don’t think I could even see this far. And now that I’m older and full of wonder, I can see that maybe other forces were at the wheel.”

Jones – who won 28 Grammys, a Primetime Emmy and a Tony – made awards show history many times. He is the only person to win Grammy Awards in six consecutive decades. He won his first Grammy in 1964 – best instrumental arrangement for arranging Count Basie’s recording of the Ray Charles smash “I Can’t Stop Loving You.” He won four Grammys in the 1970s, 14 in the 1980s, seven in the 1990s and one each in the 2000s and 2010s. He won best spoken word album in 2002 for Q – The Autobiography of Quincy Jones and best music film in 2019 for Quincy.

In 2001, he received the Kennedy Center Honors, alongside Julie Andrews, Van Cliburn, Jack Nicholson and Luciano Pavarotti. In 2013, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (in the non-performers category) by Winfrey.

Here are 10 times Quincy Jones made awards history.

It’s unclear what inspired Nicki’s push to further her education, but she told fans on X Sunday (Nov. 3) that the charity was back and she’s going to be a student once again.

“Barbz, as you may recall, 2 days ago, I mentioned me getting a college degree & that I’d share more on the Major & other details at a later time,” she wrote. “I wanted to also mention that I plan on resuming my #StudentOfTheGame Charity for Barbz who need help with College. Info 2 come.”

Nicki helped handfuls of students facing financial issues back in 2017 when she stepped up to pay fans’ tuition, room and board, book costs, student loans and more to help alleviate the semester’s stress.

One person she helped get through college hopped into her replies, thanking her and letting Minaj know that her assistance allowed them to move onto law school. “You helped me graduate college by paying my student loans in 2017,” they wrote. “I graduated with my BA in Criminal Justice and now I’m onto law school. Thank you.”

Another student she helped out added, “Will never forget this. You said mine on IG live and from there I just waited. I told my parents and like nobody else off social media. My mom was like this may be a scam. Don’t give out any personal information and I’m like mom this is really NICKI MINAJ. And I was like she follows me on Twitter but she still didn’t believe me. She didn’t know how serious you were with fans/fan interaction.”

Nicki went on an impromptu payment spree, helping fans out with educational costs in 2017 if they brought back straight As and had proof on their report cards. She promised to continue to make this more of thing and eventually turn it into a charity.

“This makes me so happy,” she wrote on IG in May 2017. “I’ll do another impromptu payment spree in a month or 2 but pls know that I’m launching my official charity for Student Loans/Tuition Payments VERY SOON! You’ll be able to officially sign up! I’ll keep you posted!”

She followed-up and made good on her word in July 2018 when Minaj awarded 37 students with the Student of the Game scholarship ahead of her Queen album arrival, which completely paid off student loans and tuition for the selected scholars.

It’s unclear exactly how Minaj plans to tackle her own education, but she wants to help more people along the way. The Queens-bred rapper graduated from Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts in 2000.
