Bebe Rexha Shares 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Her Music | Billboard Women In Music 2024

Bebe Rexha shares five things you didn’t know about her music backstage at Billboard Women In Music 2024.

Bebe Rexha:
Hi, I’m Bebe Rexha, and this is five things you don’t know about my music.

My favorite music video I’ve ever shot was “Sacrifice,” and it was inspired by the movie Blade. And it’s me and my vampire girlfriends and we seek revenge on a very bad guy.

Every time I record a song, it’s always different. Sometimes I’ll start with chords, sometimes I’ll start with a concept, or title. Sometimes something happens to me that day, and I want to write about it. But the recording process for me changes every time. But a lot of my a lot of the songs that have been the most successful, you know, on the charts have been stuff that have started just with me on the piano.

I love performing an Amsterdam but also I loved when, I loved it when I was in Japan as well. That was really fun. I don’t love just one place. I personally just love meeting fans from everywhere around the world. I always want to see what the city looks like. And not just go to the touristy parts. I like finding like the grungy places. That’s fun for me.

We have my first album ever, it was called Expectations, and it was based off of a quote that an old manager told me, because I was at the point I was very … I was going through the music industry as a songwriter kept getting, you know, in really not great situations. And he told me he’s like, “Honestly, the best thing in life is having no expectations.” So whether you’re going on a date, or walking into … I said walking — I’m from New York — walking into a studio session or meeting somebody. Don’t think, “Oh, I hope this date goes well” or build a fantasy in your head — just walk in very neutral. And I feel like that’s the reason why I call my album Expectations. That was my first album.

My favorite accomplishment ever is I was studying to be an act classically — a classically trained opera singer. And I got into … I got into this program. It was like a New York City program in New York State program. It is very hard to get into it. That was a really exciting moment for me. But the crazy thing is, what happened is when you get picked, you will [go to] upstate New York, and you sing with a whole choir, it’s like a choir situation. And I end up getting the flu that day. But you know, that’s life, but here I am at the Billboard Women In Music.

Hey, I’m Charlie XCX, and three things that my fans don’t know about me are:

My favorite city to perform in is New York.

And third, my new album’s called Brat, but they already knew that.

NewJeans on Learning About the Industry, Importance of Friendship, Trusting Your Gut & More | Billboard Women In Music 2024

Group of the Year NewJeans opens up about being new to the industry, the importance of friendship, trusting your gut and more backstage at Billboard Women In Music 2024.

NewJeans:
Some advice that I would give to women in the industry, well, actually, we’re, like, very new to the industry too, so we’re still learning. And I would just like to say that believe in yourself. Trust your gut feeling and don’t get hurt because that would be very sad. Yes.

And also, I think it’s a very, very important thing to have friends like my members around you. I think without them, it wouldn’t be this much fun and you know, exciting. So having good friends around you, I think would be a really important factor.

PinkPantheress Encourages Her Younger Self to Get Into Music Faster | Billboard’s Women in Music 2024

PinkPantheress says she wishes she would have gotten into music faster when giving advice to her younger self backstage at Billboard’s Women in Music 2024.

PinkPantheress
Some advice that I give to my younger self would be to just dive in head first into music sooner because there’s no need to be shy or to be concerned about what other people think about the craft that you make. Because if you believe it’s going to be successful then it doesn’t matter what people think. It’s just worth going for it, see where it goes. If it goes well, then great. If it doesn’t go well, then at least you tried.

Maren Morris Shares 5 Things You Didn’t Know About Her Music | Billboard Women In Music 2024

Maren Morris shares five things you didn’t know about her music-making process backstage at Billboard’s Women In Music 2024.

Maren Morris
I’m Maren Morris. And these are five things you don’t know about my music. I cannot record vocals drunk, the second any alcohol touches my lips, it sounds awful. So I don’t know, I wish I could I feel like I could be a looser singer if I had a few glasses of wine. But yeah, I overthink it. I get a lot of questions from people about how songs get written how they start. There’s no rhyme or reason. Sometimes it’s I start with a title. Sometimes I start with a melody that I recorded in my voice app. And sometimes it’s just a lyric idea. But I feel like that’s kind of a fun thing is that I never know how the song will begin. I wrote my song “The Bones” in about an hour. And then I think we had it recorded an hour later. So sometimes not all the time, you get a really fast ditty. And you think the song gods when that happens. One of my favorite venues is Red Rocks, you’re outside, you’re under the stars, you’re in the elements. And it just is like a communal show. Get my musical inspiration. Honestly, from conversations with friends. I feel like they at this point, they know if I stop or space out after they’ve said something. It’s because I’m mining our conversation for lyric ideas. Not all the time, but they know when like Maren is not here anymore and it’s because I’m like thinking about, “how will I turn this into a song tomorrow?” And those are five things you did not know.

Bebe Rexha Shares What She Learned From Kylie Minogue’s Grammy Win | Billboard Women In Music 2024

Bebe Rexha offers advice to her younger self, talks about learning from Kylie Minogue’s Grammy win & more backstage at Billboard’s Women In Music 2024.

Bebe Rexha:
Advice I would give my younger self is to, and I see it a lot of times because I’ve helped a lot of other artists, younger artists that are trying to make their way up. And I noticed that everybody’s always so antsy, you know, everybody feels that their time is running out. And I think that’s something, especially for women that’s something that’s been created in our heads to be like, “Oh, the clock is ticking.” But when it’s for other men and other artists, when they get older, it’s hotter, that they’re sexy and they have gray hair.

But you know I was nominated for Grammy this year and you know who won in that category? Kylie Minogue, who’s 50 and she’s still the queen of dance. So I feel like what I’m learning and what I would tell my younger self is to take a chill pill. It’s gonna all work out. Age has nothing to do with it. It’s all talent.

Lainey Wilson Tells Herself to Prepare For the Journey | Billboard Women In Music 2024

Lainey Wilson tells herself to prepare for the journey when giving advice to her younger self backstage at Billboard Women In Music 2024.

Lainey Wilson
Some advice I would give to my younger self is stay true to yourself. Be kind, roll up your sleeves. It’s gonna be a scary, scary ride but hold on tight and keep people close.

Maren Morris On Why It’s Important To Take Care Of Yourself | Billboard Women In Music 2024

Maren Morris says she would have told her younger self to take care of herself and “to take a break” backstage at Billboard’s Women In Music 2024.

Maren Morris
Some advice I would give to my younger self would be, give yourself a break and know that it’s okay that not everything happens to you at all at once. It’s, sometimes it’s not your turn. And sometimes it’s someone else’s. And the next one you might get or maybe the next one. I think for we’re in such a rat race of constantly like accumulating successes and medals and wins and stats and streams and views. I feel like it’s really tough to take it back here and realize why your seven year old self fell in love doing this in the first place. And you know, you’re the one that cares about this the most so I mean, not your mom, not your manager, not your co writers like you are the one that cares the most about it. And so you have to take care of the vessel that holds all of that and so, give yourself a break.

Karol G Talks Creating Her Music Videos, Life on Tour & More | Billboard Women In Music 2024

Our Woman of The Year, Karol G, opens up about being a night owl, what life on tour is like, talks through her creative process and more backstage at 2024 Billboard’s Women In Music.

Karol G:
Hey everyone, this is Karol G and here are five things that you don’t know about me, musically.

Okay, one, I have my phone full of voice notes like really strange about me talking about videos, strategies, things that I want to do, a lot of voice notes about music. I record myself like singing and doing the instrumentals and doing like everything with my voice so those are like really crazy to hear, but they’re really good.

Okay, number two! I love to write stories for videos that maybe I will never do. I have like a bunch of stories of videos that I will love to do and I think I find the right songs for every story of videos that I have.

Number three, my most creative moment in life is like maybe after 2 am, in the morning, until 6 am in the morning. I’m a really nighty person, night person. I don’t know, nighty?

I am a night person. My ideas and my creativity usually comes at night. I don’t sleep
very well because of this.

Number four. My days. A Karol G show day is a very heavy day. I have a lot of things to do. I am not able to get on stage if I don’t do sound check, I have to stretch so I can go out there and crush it without injuring anything, I have to prepare my voice so I can sing well and get all dressed up. So a show day is a day of full of work.

And number five is that this is the first time a Latina has won Women of the Year. I am very excited. I’m very excited and that is something that you don’t know about me and now you know!
