Welp, the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences might think the response to Will Smith slapping of Chris Rock at the Oscars last year was “sub-par,” but it appears that Smith himself is finally ready to move on after apologizing to death for the incident, and now the Fresh Prince of Belair star got jokes.

Smith recently posted a reaction video alongside a Tik Toker who claimed one can make their life more “interesting and fun” by asking inanimate objects how they feel about you.

“It sounds insane, but it will change your life,” the TikTok creator said while Smith deliberately looks intrigued. “Did you know that you can pick any object, look at it, and ask it what it thinks of you?”

“So, for example, you can pick up a pen and ask it how it sees you or what it thinks of you, and you will get an answer in your mind from your intuition,” she continued.

Will, a man who, despite going ham on Rock for joking about his wife, is no stranger to comedy himself, can be seen looking off-camera and then retreiving the Oscar he won for Best Actor the night of the infamous slap, and he looked at his award as if to ask: “So, are we good now, or nah?”
Meanwhile, the fine folks on Twitter are beyond amused.

Then, of course, there were those who apparently believe Smith should spend the rest of his life traveling the walk of shame for slapping Chris. Those people were, well, less amused.

It’s been nearly a year since the slap heard around the world happened on the Oscars stage. A lot of people are over it. A lot of people were never mad at Will in the first place. Other people are going to side-eye Smith for the rest of his career.
And some of us are just glad to see Will Smith be his lighthearted self again.
So, what do y’all think? Is it too soon for Will to be joking about the slap? Will it ever be OK? Is it time everyone just got over it, or what?

The president of the body responsible for the Oscars recently said that its response to Will Smith’s slapping of Chris Rock last year was sub-par.

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences President Janet Yang made the remarks at the 2023 Oscars Nominees Luncheon held on Monday (Feb. 13th). “As I’m sure you all remember we experienced an unprecedented event at the Oscars,” she began, referencing the incident where Will Smith stepped onstage and slapped Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke about his wife, Jada-Pinkett Smith at last year’s ceremony.

“What happened on stage was wholly unacceptable and the response from the organization was inadequate. We learned from this that the Academy must be fully transparent and accountable in our actions and particularly in times of crisis.”

Yang went on to declare that “we must act swiftly, compassionately and decisively for ourselves and for our industry. You should and can expect no less from us going forward,” finishing her comments on the subject before pivoting to her thoughts on an expanded vision for the Academy.

“I want to remind us of the deep respect and love we have for our fellow colleagues and for the art of filmmaking. I invite us to grow together because the collective power of this room and this industry are unstoppable,” she concluded in front of a packed audience.

Yang’s remarks are a reiteration of the stance the Academy held in the wake of the infamous moment. “This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short — unprepared for the unprecedented,” they said in a statement.

The Academy had spent several weeks after the situation at the 94th edition of the Oscars deciding what to do before announcing that it would bar Smith from appearing at any of its events for a period of 10 years. The Grammy Awards gave a proper tribute to Hip-Hop during the broadcast, but some noted that one of the genre’s first superstars was noticeably absent. Will Smith didn’t show up for the tribute despite his partner DJ Jazzy Jeff being present, and Questlove explained the situation during an interview.

The culture was on full display for Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary and the star-studded tribute directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson was largely a crowd-pleasing moment for fans in attendance and at home. As we noted above, Jazzy Jeff was there on the 1s and 2s but there was no sighting of the former Fresh Prince. Questlove shared exclusively with Variety why Will Smith didn’t make it to the tribute.

“I’ll give the spoiler alert away. Will Smith was [a part] of the festivities tonight, but they started shooting ‘Bad Boys 4’ this week,” Questlove told the outlet on the red carpet. “There were a lot of preliminary shots that he had to do, so we had to lose Will.”
Along with Will Smith, Questlove teased that the original tribute runtime was cut down from 23 minutes to 14 minutes due to scheduling conflicts and the like.
Check out the quip from Questlove regarding Will Smith and the tribute overall below.

“I thought it was such an incredible film, and I feel that there was an incredible film after that with Questlove that kind of was overshadowed,” she responded, referring to Summer of Soul. “But, I also feel that I’ve been in a position where I’ve been under a lot of pressure and I’ve made a tremendous amount of mistakes,” she added. “And I’m the kind of person that’s like ― ‘I’ve been there. I’ve made a mistake. It’s not the end of the world.’” She also went to admit that reminded everyone that love is the message. “We’re all imperfect and we’re all human, and let’s just be kind to each other” she said.
Four months after the slap Will made an apology via his YouTube channel saying he is “deeply remorseful” for his actions. Since the incident Smith has been formally banned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. You can Serena discuss life after tennis below.

Yes, we’re over the Will Smith slap, but dammit, we can’t be mad at a well-timed joke about it from the GOAT, Eddie Murphy.
Only Eddie Murphy could mention the infamous slap seen worldwide into 2023, and it not be a cringeworthy moment. The legendary stand-up comedian /actor made a joke about the moment Will Smith slapped Chris Rock while delivering his speech after accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award during Wednesday night’s Golden Globe Awards.
Murphy, the elder statesman in his craft, gave the Hollywood newbies in the building some sound advice to close out his speech.
“I want to let you know that there is a definitive blueprint that you can follow to achieve success, prosperity, longevity, and piece of mind,” Murphy began. “It’s a blueprint, and I’ve followed it my whole career. It’s very simple. There’s three things: Pay your taxes, mind your business, and keep Will Smith’s wife’s name out your f–cking mouth.”

Twitter Loved The Eddie Murphy Moment
The joke became an instant viral moment on Twitter, with viewers praising Murphy for his knack of knowing when to drop a well-timed joke that no one was expecting.
“Eddie Murphy would be the only person to make a Will Smith joke that was actually funny LOL,” journalist Sylvia Obell wrote in a tweet.
But if you think that was some shade towards Will Smith or his wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, pump your breaks. He loves the couple, noting he did work with Pinkett speaking with Entertainment Tonight in an interview following the awards show.

If you were one of those people wondering if Eddie Murphy still got it, he answered your question, proving that he can still pull a joke out of nowhere.

2. It was perfect

4. Solid career advice

It’s been nine months since Will Smith‘s headline-making moment at the 2022 Oscars in March, when he stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock across the face.

The incident occurred after Rock made an onstage joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, during the Academy Awards ceremony. “Jada, I love you. G.I Jane 2, can’t wait to see it,” the comedian said about her shaved head — which is caused by the actress’ struggles with alopecia.

The King Richard actor then slapped Rock onstage, who attempted to continue his banter before Smith began shouting from his seat, “Keep my wife’s name out your f—ing mouth.”

While Smith has since issued an apology via Instagram, the actor also opened up about the situation during an appearance on The Daily Show With Trevor Noah this week, calling it a “horrific night.”

While he added that there was “nuances and complexities” to the moment, he “lost it” during the ceremony. “And I guess what I would say, you just never know what somebody is going through,” he continued. “I was going through something that night. Not that that justifies my behavior at all.”

Smith noted that there “was a rage that had been bottled for a really long time,” and that the most painful part of it all was that “I took my hard and made it hard for other people. I understood the idea where they say that hurt people hurt people.” Noah then pointed out how in Smith’s memoir, the actor shared that he grew up being afraid of conflict.

“It was a lot of things,” Smith said in response. “It was the little boy that watched his father beat up his mother, you know. All of that just bubbled up in that moment. That’s not who I want to be.”
