Yng Lvcas Plays Fishing for Answers | Billboard

Yng Lvcas plays Fishing for Answers with Billboard backstage at Latin Music Week 2023.

Yng Lvcas:
What’s up, guys? I’m your buddy Yng Lvcas.

And I’m here at Billboard’s Fishing for Answers.

“What’s your secret talent?” My secret talent is … oh I don’t really have a secret talent. Well, I can whistle, like this. Ahhh, not everybody can do it. Well, I guess I’ll wait.

“What’s the craziest thing that happened to you live on stage?” I don’t know. I’ve had underwear thrown at me. That oh, and a Simi, my Simi.

“Who would you love to collaborate with on you next album?” Nicky Jam. It has to be Nicky Jam.

“Do you prefer recording or touring?” Recording. I think recording. You can make money from both.

I’d like to meet a billionaire, I don’t know — someone like Elon Musk. Learn from him, you know? See what he thinks, what he does with his life that could really impact me.

Britney Spears teases what’s to come in her memoir. Cardi B takes it off for Kim Kardashian. Offset sits down with Billboard’s Carl Lamarre. Manuel Turizo graces the cover of Billboard Español. And we learned five things about Carin León.

Tetris Kelly
Hi Guys, it’s Tetris Kelly for Billboard News. It’s Tuesday, October 17th. And what do we got? First, it’s Britney’s book. Britney is on the cover of People and sharing her story for the first time on her own terms, Britney’s new book arrives next Tuesday, but she talked to People ahead of the release, explaining what inspired her to write ‘The Woman in Me.’ She said, “Over the past 15 years or even at the start of my career, I sat back while people spoke about me and told my story for me. After getting out of my conservatorship, I was finally free to tell my story without consequences from the people in charge of my life.”

Tetris Kelly
She even shared excerpts from the memoir, like when she shaved her head: “Shaving my head and acting out were my ways of pushing back. But under the conservatorship I was made to understand that those days were now over. I had to grow my hair out and get back into shape. I had to go to bed early and take whatever medication they told me to take.” How the conservatorship made her feel about performing: “As far as my passion for singing and dancing. It was almost a joke at that point.”

Tetris Kelly
And even shared that she had an abortion while dating Justin Timberlake because he didn’t want to be a father, writing: “Justin definitely wasn’t happy about the pregnancy. He said we weren’t ready to have a baby in our lives that we were way too young.” People reached out to a rep for Justin but did not receive an immediate response. Britney will tell her story on her own terms when ‘The Woman In Me’ comes out on October 24.

Manuel Turizo Shares the Stories Behind His Biggest Hits & More | Billboard Cover

Billboard cover star Manuel Turizo shares his greatest influences across several different Latin genres: pop, reggaeton, regional Mexican, bachata and merengue; the stories behind his biggest hits and collaborations, and more!

Manuel Turizo:
Hey there, this is Manuel Turizo …

… and this is the Different Tones of of Manuel Turizo.

I wasn’t a good sportsman or a smart kid or a good student in my classes at school, but I was good at music, so I gave it a try.

My goal, when creating music, is mainly to enjoy it, to challenge myself all the time. I’d say I feel
comfortable making music of any genre, and that’s something that also depends on the song.

You could make a reggaeton and say, “Hey, I love this,” or the next day you could make, I don’t know, a disco beat song, and say, “Wow, I’m loving this,” or other I don’t know … maybe just with a piano, and you like that as well.

I think that people are understanding a bit more the identity of Manuel Turizo. The fact that many years have passed already, I had the opportunity to show them that I made urban music, I made reggae, ballads, I made bachata, merengue, northern cumbia, I made reggaeton … so, OK, “This is what Manuel likes, and that’s Manuel’s identity.” Manuel’s identity isn’t just a genre.

My first approach to pop music, I’d say it was with Sin Banderas with Fonsi, with Alex Ubago. I remember that by the time we released “Una Lady Como Tú,” there was controversy, an argument over what sound it was, like, if that was pop, but it had a dembow, so, what was it?

Thank you for coming. I got to say congratulations. Kill My Doubt is the fifth album you guys have had on the Billboard 200. How did that feel?

Yeji:
Very thankful for our fans, MIDZY. Thank you so much.

Tetris Kelly:
Five albums in, and what made this album different than the ones prior?

Ryujin:
We talk about the confidence a lot, but this time, we talked about the darkness inside so we could love ourselves because we defeated the darkness inside. So I think [it] is a big difference from previous album.

Tetris Kelly:
That’s such a good message. What are some of your favorite tracks? I want to know — I’m sure everybody has a different opinion. So what’s your favorite track on the album?

Chaeryeong:
“Psychic lover.”

Ryujin:
Oh, I love that song too.

Yuna:
And mine is “Bratty.”

Yeji:
My pick is “None of My Business.”

Lia:
Mine’s also “None of My Business.”

Tetris Kelly:
Oh. Why is that one so personal to you? You think?

Lia:
From the first time I listened to it, I really liked the song. Like, the vibe of the song is very easy listening. It’s kind of a good song to drive and just listen to.

Myke Towers Plays Fishing for Answers | Billboard

Myke Towers plays Fishing for Answers with Billboard backstage at Latin Music Week 2023.

Myke Towers:
Hey, this is Myke Towers, baby, and this is Fishing for Answers with Billboard.

Who’s your style icon, and why? An icon in terms of fashion … Well, I really like Jimmy Hendrix and Michael Jackson. They never looked ordinary. They always stood out, but if I had to choose between the two, well … Michael Jackson had a lot of flow, many eras and he has my name, so I’ll go with Michael.

Here comes the next one: Who was the first celebrity you fell in love with? I can’t say I fell in love, but there are a lot, maybe I won’t remember their names. Those soap operas, when I was little, I used to watch a lot of soap operas at my grandma’s house. I always liked them. Someday, an actress will be in love with me.

This video is going to be heavy.

What’s the craziest thing that has happened to you on stage? You have to be wide awake on stage now because they throw things, but also, sometimes, while performing, women lift their shirts and all that. You have to stay alert.

What’s your favorite dance move? Well, to be honest, I’m not much of a dancer. Singing is my thing, but when the time comes to dance, I’ll hold my own.

How many more to go? Let’s go to the last one. This is a good one …

Nicky Jam Explains the Stories Behind These Photos | Billboard

Nicky Jam explains the stories behind these photos backstage at Billboard’s Latin Music Week 2023.

Nicky Jam:
Hi, I’m Nicky Jam and I’m taking you Behind the Photos with Billboard.

Okay, so this picture right here was taken on my way back from tour. I was touring for two months in Europe and finally, I was coming back to my house here in Miami so I was really happy. And it was two months so two months is crazy. So you could tell I was really tired here.

Now this picture is, it’s an epic moment because it’s me, Karol G, J Balvin, as you see, and we’re flying on Balvin’s plane in that moment. He bought, at that time, he doesn’t like talking or bragging so I’ll brag for him. He bought a global like one of the biggest private planes so we were all happy on his new plane and we were flying to do the remix video for “Poblado.” That’s that moment right here.

Now this moment is just me going crazy. This is me trying to look like Feid when we came out with the song. No, actually we were going to Medellín to do a rally with a whole bunch of motorcycle people. The whole city came out and showed me love and I needed my beard again. So I drew my beard like I painted my beard. And if you see a picture you won’t notice but I did my beard again myself. So there you go, Nicky Jam. Boom. Feid Jam!
