Davido chatted with Billboard News and talked about some of his favorite Nigerian slang! DAVIDO:Yo, what’s up? It’s your boy Davido, and these are some Nigerian slang. Let’s go! The first one is “Yawa,” that’s Y-A-W-A, which means, like, “trouble.” So, if somebody hits me up like, “Yo, yawa do,” that mean it’s like, “Oh, […]
Matty Healy made a lot of people upset after he laughed at racist, body-shaming comments about Ice Spice in a recent podcast appearance. Blue Ivy makes her mother proud as she joins her onstage during her shows in Paris and London. Morgan Wallen has snagged another week at No. 1, making it his 12th week at the top of the Billboard 200 charts and his track ‘Last Night’ also holds on to the No. 1 spot of the Hot 100. And more!
Tetris Kelly 0:00Taylor’s rumored boo doubles down on controversial statements. Blue Ivy steals the show at Beyoncé’s weekend concert. Morgan Wallen’s reign on the charts continues, and we learned slang from around the world thanks to Labrinth and Nicole Zignago. Hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend. I’m Tetris Kelly for Billboard News. It’s Tuesday, May 30th and we’re back with some drama. Matty Healy is making headlines again. His latest words continue to rub people the wrong way. The 1975 frontman was asked about his recent racist comments on a podcast and his answer doubles down on the controversy. Matty Healy told The New Yorker that people don’t care that he mocked Asian people made fun of Ice Spice or claimed that he watched violent and racist pornography. He said, “You’re either deluded or you’re, sorry, a liar. You’re either lying that you are hurt, or you’re a bit mental for being hurt.” This comes on the heels of his rumored girlfriend Taylor Swift releasing a remix with Ice Spice and bringing her out at her concert to perform ‘Karma.’
Tetris Kelly 1:10Swifties have voiced their concern over their fave being associated with Healy as we’re feeling he seems unconcerned. For all the latest head to Billboard.com. Now let’s move on to news everyone loves to hear: Beyoncé is killing it on tour. It was a big weekend for Beyoncé’s tour overseas as Blue Ivy took the stage, Selena Gomez and the Jenners caused a stir, and Tina gets some love. If you’re in Paris and not at Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour What were you doing? The crowd was over the moon as Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy joined her in silver and the crowds also sparkled. Kylie and Kris Jenner attended in Paris though Kylie needs to work on her ‘Heated’ lyrics a little bit. Also at that show was Megan Thee Stallion and Selena Gomez, who apparently yelled at security and people are still trying to find out why. It seems as if she was being like her friend Taylor and just saying to leave the fans alone. Dua Lipa attended the show in the UK, where Beyoncé did a tribute to the late Tina Turner of ‘River Deep Mountain High’.
Tetris Kelly 2:25It’s time to talk about our charts. Morgan Wallen continues to make history, spending his 12th week at the top of the Billboard 200 charts with ‘One Thing At A Time,’ making it the most weeks at No. 1 for a country album in over 30 years. It surpasses the 11-week reign of Taylor Swift’s ‘Fearless’ in 2008 to 2009 but it’s not yet caught up to Billy Ray Cyrus’ ‘Some Gave All,’ which notched 17 weeks at No. 1 in 1992. Elsewhere on the chart we have two top 10 debuts as Dave Matthews Band earns its fourteenth top 10 with ‘Walk Around the Moon’ at No. 5. And Ghost logs its fourth top 10 as ‘Phantomime’ bows at No. 7. Over on the Hot 100 Morgan Wallen holds onto the top spot with ‘Last Night’ while Bad Bunny sees a top 10 debut, landing at No. 8 with his latest ‘Where She Goes.’
Jelly Roll 3:22What’s up y’all! Billboard is coming to Nashville to do a question and answer with me at the country summit and you can get your tickets now! Get your tickets, come see me. I’ll be talking that.
Tetris Kelly 3:33Now we move on to the educational portion of the show. We got together with Labrinth and he taught us some of his favorite slang.
Labrinth 3:40Hey guys, my name is Labrinth. And this is my favorite British slang
Labrinth 3:49The first one is “headtop.” If you come into my studio and you hear a banging beat, I’m going to be like, “Yo, what do you think of the song” and you go “headtop.” And that means like, “It’s so crazy” that it’s taking your head off. We got a “mad thing.” And this one makes me laugh because my missus, she grew up in Denmark, and she thought we were actually saying mud, but Patois Jamaicans would say “mad” as “mud” is a “mud thing cus…” and so when you say “mud”, it means that “it’s a crazy thing,” “this thing is wild.” So we say “poppin’ off.” So let’s say Labrinth after Coachella, people are like “This guy’s poppin’ off,” that means that your “success is growing” or people are starting to kind of see who you are.
Tetris Kelly 4:40From the UK to South America, Nicole Zignago broke down her favorite slang from Peru.
Al final, palta es avocado in Peru so, I don’t know, that’s random, but I really like it. Y otra podría ser “Qué Chévere”. Chévere lo utilizamos mucho. I really like that one. “Huevón”, “Huevona”. We say that a lot. It’s like “Hey, dude. What’s up, dude?” Yeah.
Tetris Kelly 5:19Wooh I got a lot of slang to use. That’s it for today make sure to come back tomorrow to see what songs are trending on Twitter and we break down the songs making a comeback thanks to TikTok. I’m Tetris Kelly and this is Billboard News.

Lauren Jauregui tells us all about her new music off her EP ‘In Between’, exploring her sexuality through her music, Fifth Harmony’s 10th anniversary, and more!
Lauren Jauregui 0:00You should listen to my music. That’s what I would say. Go check it out. Check me out, like it’s good sh–. It’s good sh–. Can I say sh–? You can. Hey, what’s up? I’m Lauren Jauregui and this is Billboard News
Tetris Kelly 0:22It’s Tetris with Billboard News and I’m so happy to be hanging out with my friend Lauren. Hey, beautiful. How are you?
Lauren Jauregui 0:27Hello, I’m good. How are you?
Tetris Kelly 0:29I’m amazing. Thanks for hanging out with us. We got to talk about this music. You’re not new to the solo game. I mean, from ‘Expectations’ and all the success you had with that and so many releases. Tell me what about this EP, that’s going to be so different.
Lauren Jauregui 0:39I think there’s, there’s more movement to this EP. This is a continuation of ‘Prelude’ which is my first EP that I dropped
Lauren Jauregui 0:53Kind of the sound and vibe that I was, I’ve been cultivating from that point. I’ve been writing since like, 2018. And these songs are from that era, I haven’t really locked in to start writing new stuff yet. So it’s kind of a continuation of a story that would have been told maybe in the past,
Tetris Kelly 1:07Let’s talk about your lead single. Now ‘Wolves’, you got two amazingly talented people on it: Ty Dolla $ign and Russ. Why were those two guys the perfect people?
Lauren Jaureugi 1:15This song was written back in like 2019. So Russ and I have always been friends, you know, he’s an independent artist as well. And I learned a lot from him and all of the wisdom he puts out into the world as an artist and I felt very connected to him and we like grew a friendship, just like kind of knowing each other, and then Ty heard the track and loved it and wanted to hop on it. So he did.
Tetris Kelly 1:37But as we break down this EP, tell me a little bit more about some of the other tracks and what they mean.
Lauren Jaureugi 1:41I love all of these songs, there are six of them, two of them are already out in the world, which are ‘Always Love’ and ‘Trust Issues,’ which I feel give a very vulnerable kind of take on my songwriting, they’re very just like my vocals and some strings and a guitar, for the most part. But I opened the project with a spoken word piece that’s overseeing music that my friend Powers produced, which is really beautiful and kind of goes even more in depth into the meaning of ‘In Between.’ For me, it’s a poem specifically about that. It’s called ‘Meet Me In the In Between’.
Tetris Kelly 2:24And something that I also have felt I’ve watched you do is kind of like grow and bloom into your sexuality as well. I’ve been very proud of you. Because like you were unfairly outed in 2016. But now you’ve kind of just owned your stuff. Yeah. And you’re out and proud and living your life. I loved your Valentine’s Day post. So how was that?
Lauren Jaureugi 2:43I mean, it’s life. I’m older now. I was 16 when I started in this industry, and I’m now 26. So I feel like you blossom into yourself over the course of those years, you discover yourself, you meet people, you fall in love, you fall out of love, and you learn yourself. And I think even when it comes to expression and identity and sexuality, I’m very fluid. So I feel like I’ll continue to discover and engage with different parts of myself because I grow.
Tetris Kelly 3:13Talking about growth, obviously growing as a solo artist, you know, you obviously were a part of a massive group. And one of your members recently, Dinah, she said that she quit doing solo music in 2020 because of depression and pressure. So is that something you have ever connected with? Or do you feel like there’s a pressure as being a solo artist?
Lauren Jauregui 3:31Yeah, I think all of us could connect with that. I feel like we’ve all spoken about our stories and in respect to like that experience overall. And I think each of us needed our individual time to grow and discover our personal stories within the story of it all, you know, so I’m proud of her for getting through it and taking the time that she needed. And I hope she’s feeling beautiful because I love you.
Tetris Kelly 3:55It feels like it was just yesterday that it was July, you guys are celebrating 10 years
Tetris Kelly 4:05And now, it’s about to be July, again, 11 years.
Lauren Jauregui 4:09I’m part of anything for 11 years, it’s just like a lot.
Tetris Kelly 4:12And I feel like every every other week you guys are going viral for some moment or performance. What’s one that sticks out to you that you haven’t spoken on? I need to know like when you see this on the internet, you’re like, oh, man, I can’t.
Lauren Jaureugi 4:26Oh man. Well, with Fifth Harmony, there is an endless supply of that. There’s so much, there’s so much stuff, definitely our carpet photos. I laughed so hard at y’all’s comments about the carpet photos because I’m, I feel you.
Tetris Kelly 4:41For people that are checking in and tuning in now. They don’t know Lauren, they don’t know Fifth Harmony. What do you feel like you want to say?
Lauren Jauregui 4:48Hi, I’m Lauren. I’m a singer songwriter. You should listen to my music, that’s what I would say. Go check me out, like hit me up. It’s good sh–.
Tetris Kelly 4:59Thank you so much for coming and hanging out with us, I really appreciate it.
