Doechii and Azealia Banks go off online, new music from some of the biggest names in pop. We’ve got Sheryl Crow in the studio, and we explain Metro Boomin’s many hits. It’s Friday, April 12. And I gotta get on the road to Coachella, but that doesn’t stop the news from happening and a whole crop of new music. Let’s jump into our Friday Music Guide. Dua Lipa is bringing us one step closer to ‘Radical Optimism’ with “Illusion.” More new music throughout the show, but for now our top story. Something is in the air because the girls are fighting. Let’s break it down. It’s been Azealia Banks versus Doechii online since Doechii posted this IG asking her followers what her fandom should be called to which Banks replied “Definitely should call them ‘Wannabes’” and Doechii wasn’t going to let that slide. Replying “The first time you came for me I let it slide out of respect for my elders. It’s not my fault you sellin’ sh*tty soap and I’m selling platinum records. Leave me alone please.” The feuding was far from over. Azealia Banks tweeted, insinuating Doechii paid for her streams, accused her of being homophobic, called her ugly and brought up her skin tone. Doechii went off on IG ending her clap back by saying “Your diagnosis is wasted talent…

It’s been a while since we’ve gotten any new solo work from one Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. a.k.a Lil Wayne and though it doesn’t seem like that’ll be happening anytime soon, at least Tunechi is blessing everyone with guest verses on other artists records.

Such is the case for Yung Bleu’s visuals to “Confirmation Remix” in which Bleu showers a beautiful young woman with love and attention from the bar to his bedroom before Weezy kicks his verse while flossing two fistful of icey rings like he done took home a few championships in his sport.

Speaking of dope features, Royce Da 5’9” blesses Nasaan with guest verse of his own and in the clip for “Goated,” Nine Nickel and Nasaan give everyone a lesson in how to drop bars while working an everyday 9 to 5.

The desert is open for business and with weekend one of Coachella kicking off, we’re telling you what you can expect from one of music’s biggest weekends. Doja Cat, Tyler the Creator and Lana Del Rey are the weekend’s headliners with a special super hyped appearance by No Doubt. But the excitement doesn’t stop there. Latin music is bigger than ever at the fest with Peso Pluma taking the stage and we hear J Balvin has an epic set on the way. We can’t wait for the weekend surprises. Metro Boomin’s Billboard Charts Journey: ‘We Don’t Trust You’ & More | Billboard Explains

Will Metro Boomin earn another No. 1 album? In anticipation of Metro Boomin and Future’s second collaboration project We Still Don’t Trust You, let’s look back at Metro’s Billboard chart achievements.

This is Billboard Explains: Metro Boomin’s Journey on the Charts.

In the past decade, Metro has become one of the hottest producers and songwriters in hip-hop. His Hot 100 breakthrough as a producer came with Future’s “Honest,” which hit No. 55 in 2013. Over the next three years, he produced 23 more Hot 100 hits. He earned his first No. 1 on the Hot 100 for his work on Migos and Lil Uzi Vert’s collab “Bad and Boujee,” which topped the chart for three weeks in 2017.

Metro has produced 16 top 10 hits on the Hot 100, including The Weeknd’s “Heartless,” which ruled for one week in 2019, and his collab with Future and Kendrick Lamar’s “Like That,” which currently holds the No. 1 spot.

Metro is no stranger to collaborations. The Billboard chart topper worked with some of rap’s biggest artists for some huge albums. In fact, he has seven top 10s on the Billboard 200, including Double or Nothing with Big Sean, which peaked at No. 6 in 2017, Savage Mode II with 21 Savage that reached No. 1 in 2020, and his Heroes and Villains, which topped the chart in 2022. Fun fact: Heroes and Villains went on to claim 18 weeks at No. 1 on the Top Rap Albums chart, the third most of any album in the chart’s history.

2024 is already starting off strong for Metro. His album with Future, We Don’t Trust You, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and 17 of its songs hit the Hot 100, including “Like That” with Future and Kendrick, earning Metro his first No. 1 as an artist.

Can We Still Don’t Trust You become Metro’s fifth No. 1 album on the Billboard 200? We can’t wait to find out!

Sheryl Crow talks about performing “If It Makes You Happy” with Olivia Rodrigo at her Nashville show and releasing a new album Evolution, after announcing that Threads would be her last album in 2019. On the album, she tackles issues she’s passionate about, most notably, artificial intelligence and how it’s going to change the music industry. What’s the difference between an album and a playlist?

Sheryl Crow:
I’ll tell you. And I am kind of joking about that. But, but not really. An album for me typically has been an artistic statement with a beginning, a middle and end. It’s been curated, you know, certain songs didn’t make it. And people would listen to it as a full body of work.

Last year Kodak Black had his fans stressing when he seemingly had a health scare during an IG live and nodded off while he was live streaming. Luckily since then the man has shown signs of life as he’s constantly found himself in trouble with the law while continuing his support for Donald Trump. Go figure.

Still, the man has mouths to feed so he’s going to continue to do what he do and in his latest clip for “Stressed Out,” the Floridian speaks on his legal cases while showing fans how he passes time whenever he’s locked up behind bars as he does pushups and dips while in his 8×10 cell. Those prison workout programs really do work, but obviously ain’t for everybody.

Brent Faiyaz meanwhile keeps continues his comeback tour with his latest visuals to “Best Time” the R&B artist shows the kind of love he gets when he travels abroad as fans in Milan, Sydney and Tokyo shower him with praise when he takes his American talents to their side of the world.

She told Women’s Health that after being shot by Tory Lanez and the public’s reaction to the trial, she went through a dark time and found therapy. Now she says “I was inspired to create this album about rebirth because I am becoming a new person, physically and mentally.”

Hey, Billboard, it’s Keith Urban here. These are five things you didn’t know about my new song “Straight Line.”

Keith Urban
This song was originally recorded with just drum machine and no real drums and we finished out the whole song. And for whatever reason, we just felt like it was linear and not going anywhere. And so we decided to put real drums on it. And when we did, it changed the whole thing in a big way. So shout-out to all the real drummers out there. When we started writing, the song was written in a stream of consciousness. … We had a groove and we kept singing, “Late night lover, late night lover.” And when one of the other writers was singing it, I thought he was saying straight line lover, and I thought that was more interesting. And then we were wondering what “straight line lover” meant and so we just trimmed it down to “Straight Line.”

Keith Urban
I wrote this song with my bass player, Jerry Flowers, the guy called Chase McGill. And a great producer/ songwriter called Greg Wells, a great musician, the four of us had never written together. We had two days to write. And the very first day we wrote a song and the very second day we wrote “Straight Line.” Both of the songs we wrote will be on this album.

People are using it for any, and all kinds of videos. It’s doing well on the Hot 100, too, landing at No. 4. At six, Bakar’s “Hell N Back” returns to the chart three months later, thanks to a feature by Summer Walker. Today’s episode of Billboard‘s Chart Rewind looks back at when Lady Gaga, TLC and Elton John hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Pokerface,” “No Scrubs” and “Bennie and the Jets.”

This week on Chart Rewind, we have three very different No. 1 hits to celebrate from three very different artists. Let’s start 50 years ago, heading all the way back to 1974 when Elton John put out his sensational hit “Benny and the Jets,” which hit No. 1 on April 13, 1974. At the time, it was his second No. 1 after “Crocodile Rock.”

Next we leap forward 25 years to April 10, 1999. TLC had the third No. 1 Hot 100 here with “No Scrubs.” It stayed there for four weeks.

And finally, Lady Gaga in 2009. Her second Hot 100 No.1 was “Poker Face.” It made it to the top on April 11, 2009, just a few months after her first Hot 100 hit “Just Dance.”
