After a big weekend at Money In The Bank, Triple H tells Billboard anything is possible when it comes to Cardi B hosting the first ever two-night WWE SummerSlam August 1- 2 at MetLife Stadium.
Noah Reardon: You mentioned it’s a busy summer. So with Cardi B hosting SummerSlam, what can we expect from that event specifically, and could we see her in the ring potentially?
Well, let me answer the second part of it first. So can you see her … I don’t know if anybody can control Cardi B, let me just start with that. So if she wants to, I think it’s going to be hard to talk her out of it. And then what can we expect? Who the hell knows.The one thing I know about Cardi is, whatever she’s going to do, is what she’s going to do. And you’re sort of kind of just hanging on to the tiger’s tail a little bit there. So she’s a lot of fun to work with. Has been so far with this.
She’s excited to do it. I think, as everybody knows, she’s a big fan and has, you know, talked a lot about the business over the years and all that stuff and comments on it a lot. So when you work with people like that, it’s exciting. We’ll see, we’ll see where that goes. But we’re thrilled to be working with her. You know, there’s a lot of artists out there across so many different things now that are just, they’re fans and looking to come in and do things with us, and we’ll vet through them and try to figure out the ones that can do the most and be a positive for our fan base, and just help to expand the product out beyond the realm of just just wrestling fans, and get the rest of the world into what we’re doing.

We’re at Crossroads in LA. This is a place you’ve been coming to for a long time, right?
Yeah. I mean, this is my favorite upscale vegetarian restaurant in Los Angeles. And I just remember when Impossible burgers weren’t a thing. There were only three restaurants in all of America that had Impossible burgers, and this was one of them. And I was very, very excited to have an Impossible burger here. And literally, within six months, they’re selling them at White Castle.
Well, it’s funny to be sitting at a vegan restaurant with the king of singing about junk food. It’s interesting that food has been such a continuous theme in your canon, as it were. Is that something that, along the way of songwriting, you realized it was just fruitful material and it always proved to be funny? Or why did you keep coming back to it as a theme?
It’s just something that doesn’t get covered in pop music that much. I mean, most songs are about love and relationships and things like that. And nobody writes that many songs about tacos. So I just figured somebody had to, like, you know, fill that vacuum. And I just thought of it in a business way, that if I wrote a lot of songs about food, then I could write off my grocery bill on my taxes because it’s all, you know, it’s all inspiration.

Mariah Carey has returned with new music from MC16. We’re giving you the rundown with the producer of the track himself.
I heard a little something when I was driving here. “I like them dangerous.” Hey, come on, bro, tell me about the track, man. How was it to produce that and be involved in the project?
Shout-out to the Queen, Mariah Carey, it was awesome to be able to work on her project. And me and my boys, J Mo and J Pounds, we have the first single, and also co-written by Ray Klil, who’s also on my record label. Yeah, it was amazing. She’s amazing to work with, a great writer, great producer. So much fun. We had a lot of fun. And that was, like, one of the last records we did in the studio, and it came together like so quick. She’s a big hip-hop head, so I wanted to try to find something that we could, you know, continue the lineage of her, mixing the old with the new. And I think we got it with this one.
She’s such a queen. We know she always knows what she wants. So how was it to kind of have you both in the studio? I feel like she trusts you.
It was good, yeah, a lot of trust.

So a party doesn’t start until DJ Pee .Wee shows up. Man, how you feeling?
I feel great!
I feel like everywhere I go in the industry, I can be at Coachella, I can be at the Super Bowl — you’re there providing the vibe. So what’s the evolution been like for you as a DJ?
Man, it’s been great. I love DJing, you know? Being a part of the party, but also like helping make the party is like, it’s a dream, like, I love it. So it’s been awesome to get to learn a lot of music. Shout-out to Eddie and Maurice. It’s, like, always a new challenge every time, just like, trying to make the crowd move. So it’s been awesome to go from like, a little like speakeasy, where we started, to doing parties with Mickey Mouse now.
I mean, that’s what I’m saying, being at the House of Mouse. How’d you get involved with Mickey and all his cool friends?
It’s been a dream come true. I think our first party that we did was in London, maybe. And, yeah, we hooked up with Joss, and they just like, you know, at first I didn’t know what Willie was about, and it was just like, exceeded all expectations, like to be able to interact with, like, all the characters, and they took me to the studio, and we did so much cool content. It’s been amazing.

Laufey: I’m so excited. There’s like, I’m seeing already so much, like, many ears and bows and like-

I mean, what is your Disney experience like? What has the brand meant to you?
Oh, my God. I mean, it’s just my childhood, right? I think growing up, I didn’t really have… I always loved, like, old music, old sounds. I didn’t have much context for it, but I always heard it in movies. And like, the way I told my friends about my music and, like, my musical aspirations was kind of always through the lens of music. It’s like you listen to the music from, like, the old Peter Pan movies, like the old Disney princess movies. It’s that kind of vintage sound is everything that I strive for in my modern project. So it means a lot to me.
I love that you can connect all the lines there. And I mean you’re gonna be taking the music out on the road with Suki Waterhouse. We’re so excited about that. So how did you decide to partner with her? And what’s it gonna be like on the road?
Oh, my God. I mean, I’m such a fan of hers, I kind of, I wanted it to be like a girly show. Like I was like, I need a girl.

Well, we are happy to have you, but I gotta ask you right away: Tell me about your favorite Billboard moment, like a time past, present, future even that you might have charted or want to chart.
My favorite Billboard moment had to be my first ever moment on Billboard with “Location.” I mean, that song, to me, is just one of those songs that I’m grateful to even have gotten a chance to write. It’s one of those songs that kind of came to me, and so to see that success and to know that people are still bumping “Location” almost nearly 10 years later is really exciting.
Yeah, and I mean, to have a hit like that, and then have continued to have hits, you’re a lucky man. And now you got new music coming out. So tell me about “All I Know.”
“All I Know,” Rudimental, I want to thank them for having me be a part of the song. It’s really awesome. I love EDM music, and I listen to it on my own time. So anytime that I’m able to experiment and explore with my sound and try new things, I’m always willing to, so I really love that song so much.
When you’re working on your own new music, you’re creating an album. I mean, you’ve had different journeys in your career, where do you want to arrive now?

We’re at the Sueños Festival in Chicago and I’m really excited because it’s the fifth time we’ve sung in the United States and the first time we’ve sung here in Chicago, and I saw a lot of people picking up on my songs, singing along. So there’s something inside me that I’d like to go on tour, but not just at a festival, and I’d like to be at venues for these fans who are there.
Of course.
And not just for 20 minutes.
I was just about to ask you that. You sang at Coachella and now Sueños. What do you hope for it, to turn into a tour?
Yes, I would like to work on that. I would like to visit cities in the United States where people know us and also where they don’t, since I started planting the seed for the Malilla project, which was a great project that I really liked. I sing reggaeton. Mexican reggaeton. Mexican reggaeton. I am Mexican and I sing reggaeton.
