I’ve known her for a very long time as a songwriter and as an artist. And she came on tour with me back in 2017, sent me the song and I loved it. Sometimes, it’s sometimes it’s not that deep. My third record ‘You & I’ was very deep, emotional. It was about my like, personal life changing. I got married, and I really wanted to share my story with the world. Well, with this one. I was like, You know what, let’s just put out great things that feel good, you know, and the sun is out. I’m always about the sunshine. Everything with my music has been super positive.

When you’re in a girl band, everybody just tries to compare you. It’s just natural. So you kind of have to get used to that. But we had each other to support each other through everything. So, you know, this is essentially me starting again so I don’t even know yet what it feels like, fame wise, on my own.

Hi! It’s Jade, and you’re watching Billboard News.

Meghan Mahar:
I’m here with Jade. Jade, welcome.

Jade:
Thank you, very excited to be here.

Meghan Mahar:
We are so excited to have you and so excited to dive into your new era and new song called “Angel of My Dreams.” Can you tell us about the song? What was the inspiration behind it?

Jade:
“Angel of My Dreams,” I would say is about my kind of love/hate relationship with the music industry which, as you know, I’ve been a part of for quite some time. So I have a lot to say about that — good and bad. “Angel of My Dreams” is kind of like a love letter to the industry of how obsessed I am with it, how much I love it. But with that comes, you know, some trials and tribulations.

Meghan Mahar:
Did you know that this was going to be the single as soon as you wrote it?

Jade:
I’ve been writing for, like, two and a half years. I knew I hadn’t quite landed on the song yet.

Actually the IV hurt worse than the butt maybe ’cause I got a lot of cushion back there. What’s up Billboard, it’s Big Latto and I’m gonna spend the next 24 hours with y’all. Let’s go. Feeling a little under the weather, a latto under the weather right now actually. But I’m gonna thug it out, I always do. Everybody waiting on me. I need to get some hydration. Let me show y’all what I do. Hey Z.

Z:

Latto is my favorite energy period.

Latto:

Period.

Interviewer:

So for people who don’t know, who is Latto?

Latto:

Who is Latto? That’s a good question cuz I’m always like Alyssa. Latto is just Alyssa at work. Alyssa’s just 23 year old Capricorn. Did I just say 23? I did not just try to lie about my age like that. I’m definitely 25, I’m about to be 26. I started rapping in like eight years old for real. What was I rapping about? I was rapping about like haters in school. And my daddy had like a whole bunch of like old school cars and like I was probably like, my daddy picked me up from school in that candy paint don’t. I feel like eight year old me was more cocky than I am now. My sound today I feel like is very southern rooted, no shade it’s not a viral sensation.
