When Travis Scott performed a virtual concert inside the battle royale game Fortnite in April 2020, it drew 12.3 million concurrent players at its peak — the largest in-game gathering in Fortnite history. But despite this pull, “music has always been a little bit of a one-off” for us, says Nate Nanzer, vp of partnerships for Epic Games, the company behind Fortnite.
“We’ve done a concert here, and then a year-and-a-half later there’s another one. We haven’t had a persistent space to celebrate music before.”
This changed Saturday (Dec. 8), as the company rolled out Fortnite Festival, a music-focused game made in collaboration with Harmonix, the developer behind titles like Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Players can create a band with friends — or forge ahead solo — and perform hits on a variety of virtual instruments.
“For almost 30 years now, we have been trying to invent new ways for people to experience music through gameplay,” says Alex Rigopolous, co-founder and studio lead of Harmonix. “We never had an opportunity to do that on anything like the insane scale that Fortnite offers.”

Epic Games previously dabbled in music by purchasing the platform Bandcamp in 2022, but the partnership proved short-lived. In September, Epic announced that it was laying off 16% of its staff and that the licensing company Songtradr was acquiring Bandcamp in September. (Layoffs hit Bandcamp as well.)
“While Fortnite is starting to grow again, the growth is driven primarily by creator content with significant revenue sharing, and this is a lower margin business than we had when Fornite Battle Royale took off,” Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney wrote in an email to staff.
Fortnite is known for unbridled mayhem: Up to 100 players fight to death on an island, with the goal of being the last one standing. Rigopolous believes the game’s new music component may attract new users who steered clear in the past.
“Not everyone on Earth is interested in a battle royale game,” he says. In contrast, “basically everyone on Earth loves music.”
Fortnite Festival players will initially be able to drum, strum, or sing along with more than 30 songs, including the Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights,” the Killers’ “Mr. Brightside,” and Psy’s “Gangnam Style.” Players form a team, pick their track of choice, and choose an instrument — in addition to the usual suspects like guitar and percussion, they can select vocals, bass, keytar, and more. Once they’re transported to the stage to perform, game play may remind some users of Guitar Hero, with brightly lit notes zipping towards the user indicating what button they’re supposed to press on their keyboard or console.
Epic Games’ goal is eventually to have “hundreds” of songs available to play in Fortnite Festival, according to Nanzer.
“There will be a rotation of songs that anyone can play for free,” he explains. “If there’s a song you really like and want to be able to play whenever you want, you can go buy that song” to retain access to it. Nanzer says “music rights holders will share in the revenue from sales of music in the game.”
We’ve taped the launch setlist to your amp, so you can prepare for the Festival 😎These sweet Jam Tracks will be on rotation starting in just three more days, so study up! pic.twitter.com/gYJc8jzfLN— Fortnite Festival (@FNFestival) December 6, 2023
These tracks — “Blinding Lights,” “Mr. Brightside,” Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” — are already massive, billion-stream hits. “Most of the music in the game is going to be huge hit music, household names,” Rigopolous acknowledges. But the hope, in time, is to introduce music from “lesser known artists who are cool and people should hear.”
“We have lots of pitches already from our label partners,” Nanzer adds. “We really want this to become a real opportunity for [the music industry] to reach this audience in a way that they’ve never been able to reach them before.”

The world of Fortnite and how players can enjoy it continues to grow. Starting today, loyal fans of the game can now boot up LEGO Fortnite, the latest addition to Epic Games’ ridiculously popular video game.
Thursday, December 7, Epic Games launched LEGO Fortnite, a new survival crating game it developed in partnership with the LEGO Group.
Some are describing it as Fortnite and LEGO’s version of Minecraft, another popular title owned by Microsoft. Instead of downloading a separate game, you can access it by selecting it on the Fortnite menu, just like when you choose the battle royale mode.
Epic says the procedural map players can explore is 19x more significant than the battle royale map, and you can either play in a creative mode where you can build whatever you want or a survival mode where skeletons, wolves, and other enemies will generate.

Players will also have to monitor not only their character’s health but also their hunger and extreme heat warnings.

Fortnite is also famous for the skins it introduces into the game, and that continues to be the case in the new mode. Speaking with The Verge, Saxs Persson, Epic’s executive VP, says more than 1,200 Fortnite skins have a LEGO variant players can use.

LEGO Fortnite Isn’t The Only New Mode Coming To Fortnite
LEGO Fortnite is also the first of many in-game experiences coming to Fortnite. Beginning tomorrow, December 8, players can look forward to Rocket Racing (from the creators of Rocket League) and Fortnite Festival on Saturday, December 9 (from the studio behind Rock Band and Guitar Hero).
The latter will allow players to play rhythm-based games similar to Rock Band and Guitar Hero alone or with friends, as well as songs from artists like Eminem, who just recently got his own skin in the game and was a part of the Big Bang event.
Fortnite sounds like it’s the ultimate place to be.

In more GTA 6 news, people are complaining about the highly-anticipated game having a female protagonist, while some are BIG MAD about the game’s content.
GTA 6 is not nearly hitting shelves yet, but there is plenty of discourse around the game’s first trailer. While most people, including LeBron James, were blown away by how damn good it looks, there is a sect of people claiming the franchise has gone “woke” because it will have a female protagonist for the first time.
[embedded content]
The news of the game featuring a female protagonist isn’t new. Still, for whatever reason, after the trailer was viewed over an astounding 107 million times, sexist gamers are fuming at the idea of having to commit crimes with a woman.
“If the story is well written then kudos but to me this is just another dumb woke pointless thing because which woman cares about gta 6. Trying to appease the wrong crowd,” one X user ridiculously wrote.
Another X user added, “woman in gta 6??? more like wokestar studios…….”
Andrew & Tristan Tate Even Had Something To Say
Now, it wouldn’t be a GTA news cycle if there weren’t people also making a big stink about the mature content in the game. On a recent episode of their toxic podcast, Andrew and Tristan Tate spoke about the game allowing kids to shoot cops, which is honestly hilarious because these are the last two people who should be talking.
Keep in mind the Tate Brothers are currently under house arrest and are facing years in a Romanian prison for numerous allegations, including human trafficking.
Also hilarious is Andrew Tate admitting he has never played a Grand Theft Auto game, and his brother only played the classic top-down version from the 90s.
“Video games aren’t necessarily evil,” Tristan told his brother, adding, “I’m not a fan of anyone under the age of 18, 21 maybe, playing video games where the goal is to shoot police officers.” Tristan had the nerve to give the developers at Rockstar Games advice saying, “I feel like they could put a better objective into these games. Maybe you are a police officer, maybe you are trying to stop criminals.”
Honestly, we wouldn’t be shocked if the developers somehow made fun of these two bozos like they do the other real-life cultural moments.
GTA 6 arrives on PS5, Xbox Series S | X consoles in 2025. There is currently no PC version in the works. You can see more reactions in the gallery below.

One thing you can count on in any Grand Theft Auto title is hilarious references to real-life events in the game, and that continues to be the case in GTA 6.
Florida is currently the butt of all the jokes in the real world, thanks to the numerous “Florida man” shenanigans, the orange menace Donald Trump living there, lame governor Ron DeSantis and other ridiculous real-live events that seem to happen there daily.
The GTA 6 trailer, which was initially going to premiere today, hit social media after Rockstar Games released it early to battle a leak.
The nearly two-minute trailer is on pace to break some records, already racking up over 90 million views and over 8 million likes. The trailer references real-life events in Florida but is remixed to fit GTA 6’s fictional world of Leonida and Grand Theft Auto’s version of Miami, Vice City.
Since the trailer’s arrival, viewers have been picking it apart, and they have been able to nail down every real-life inspiration from Florida events in the game’s trailer.
Florida References Broken Down
One reference that stands out is the Florida Joker, a tattoo model who went viral in 2017 following his arrest and his mugshot featuring his tattooed covered face hitting the web.
Another moment in the trailer that stands out is when a woman wields two hammers, which people are tying to an actual real-life incident that didn’t go down in Florida but in Los Angeles but easily could have been a Sunshine State moment.
Florida is well known for its gator moments, and plenty are in the GTA 6 trailer.
Another moment that had GTA fans saying oh sh*t is the Black woman twerking on top of the car while it’s speeding down the highway, which also happened in real life if you must know.
There is an account on X, formerly Twitter that breaks all references; you can see the post below.

The Weeknd stars in a new trailer for Festival, a game from Rock Band studio Harmonix in which the singer — who now goes by his birth name, Abel Tesfaye — is the headliner in a music-experience slated to launch inside Fortnite on Saturday (Dec. 9). Like Harmonix’s most beloved games, Festival lets fans tap […]
Grand Theft Auto VI is finally on its way. After an online leak, Rockstar Games released the first trailer for its long-awaited sixth installment of the GTA franchise on Monday (Dec. 4), with Tom Petty’s 1989 track “Love Is a Long Road” soundtracking the adventure. The song, from his album Full Moon Fever, peaked at […]

Rockstar Games set a date for the world to come together and trailer 1 for GTA 6. Those plans changed thanks to some crypto dweebs who leaked it, forcing the game studio to drop it a day early.
Remember when things used to feel like events? That’s no longer the case, with everything seemingly “leaking” now.
Social media was set ablaze when the GTA 6 trailer leaked on X, formerly Twitter. The video was a rip with a crypto dweebs logo plastered across it, but that didn’t stop eager gamers from watching it.
The account that initially leaked the trailer was quickly suspended, with Rockstar Games working hard to pull the videos down.
Eventually, Rockstar Games confirmed the leak and said you know what, f*** it and hit the go live button so fans could enjoy the trailer as it was intended to be viewed.
“Grand Theft Auto VI continues our efforts to push the limits of what’s possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences,” said Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games. “We’re thrilled to be able to share this new vision with players everywhere.”
What Does The Trailer Confirm?
Source: Rockstar Games / GTA 6
The 1:30 trailer, backed by Tom Petty’s “Love is a Long Road,” confirms the game will feature its first female protagonist, Lucia.
It will have a Bonnie and Clyde vibe, return to Vice City, and take the ratchet shenanigans we loved in GTA V to another level.
“Grand Theft Auto VI heads to the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond in the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet,” a press release read.
The game is also dropping on PS5, Xbox Series S | X, PC is still a mystery.
X Users Are Losing Their Sh*t
Of course, social media is on fire, and the reactions to the new GTA 6 trailer are all over the place.
Some gamers are reacting to the game coming out in 2025, meaning they will have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on the game.
Other reactions are just pure jokes about what Rockstar Games will do to the leaker when they eventually find out who the culprit behind leaking the most highly anticipated game trailer of the year was.
We know Rockstar Games will bring the hammer down on that clown.
But until then, if you haven’t done so already, watch the trailer for GTA 6 below and hit the gallery for all the hilarious reactions.

Mark your calendars! Gamers are excited after Rockstar Games dropped the date for the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6.
After years of trending on social media for absolutely no reason at all, opening X and seeing GTA 6 in the top trending topics finally means something now.
While not saying much, Rockstar Games announced trailer 1 for what is easily the most highly anticipated game in the world, which will be arriving on December 5.
Proving just how popular this game is, just announcing the trailer’s release date sent social media into a tizzy.
“Fast forwarding to Tuesday,” Sony’s official X, formerly known as Twitter account, wrote.
The trailer will also arrive two days before The Game Awards, shutting down the theory that Geoff Keighley had GTA 6 as a big reveal during the show.
What We Know So Far Ahead of GTA 6 First Trailer Release
While we know when to expect the trailer, we still have no idea what this game will look like outside of the massive leak that showed footage from a pre-build.
Rumors also suggest that GTA 6 will see the game return to Vice City, which is Grand Theft Auto’s version of Miami, featuring a female protagonist as one-half of the playable characters for the first time, drawing inspiration from Bonnie and Clyde and one of the most extensive “evolving” maps in GTA history.
Like everyone else, we are excited to see what Rockstar Games has been taking its sweet time to build since GTA V, which has seen life on three console generations since its initial release in 2013 on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 console, making it one of, if not the most profitable pieces of media ever.
Until the day the trailer drops, you can see more reactions in the gallery below.

As we get closer to the big reveal of Grand Theft Auto 6, the hype for the highly-anticipated video game is so thick you can cut it with a knife.
GTA VI is trending on X, formerly known as Twitter, but this time around, the energy is much different. Unlike the other times the long-awaited sequel to GTA V trended, there is actual excitement now because a trailer for the game is on the horizon.
Rockstar Games confirmed a trailer is on the way following the equivalent of Woj Bomb in the video game space due to Bloomberg’s Jason Scheirer coming through with slam dunk reporting claiming the studio was dropping a trailer for the game.
In a post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, Rockstar Games president Sam Houser wrote:
“We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto. We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you.”
Gamers React To GTA VI’s Trailer Coming In December
With that in mind and Thanksgiving and Black Friday now behind us, gamers have taken to Elon Musk’s trash platform to express how excited they are about GTA VI’s announcement being on the horizon.
“The only thing on my mind right now is #GTAVI December hurry up!!! Its gonna be game of the generation bruh….,” one post on X read.
Another post read, “I hope we get that #GTAVI trailer Friday but I’m expecting nothing until next week at least. Regardless, I can’t believe we’ve made it this close.”
We feel both posts and wonder when the trailer will drop in December.
There is a strong chance it could happen during the upcoming Game Awards.
We shall see.
Until then, hit the gallery below for more reactions.
