Following his reported breakup with Taylor Swift, Joe Alwyn has lined up his next acting gig.
On Tuesday (April 11), news broke that the British actor will be joining the cast of the upcoming film The Brutalist, starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones and Guy Pearce. According to a synopsis, the flick will follow “thirty years of an artist’s life and his enduring creative journey. When visionary architect László Toth (Brody) and his wife Erzsébet (Jones) flee post-war Europe to rebuild their legacy in America, a mysterious and wealthy client (Pearce) ends up changing their lives forever.”
Without mentioning anything about the character Alwyn will play, a press release also promises that the Brady Corbet-directed period piece will deliver “both monumental heights and devastating lows” for audiences once it’s released in theaters. It will also serve as Alwyn’s first role since starring in Lena Dunham’s Catherine Called Birdy on Amazon Prime Video and the Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney’s hit novel Conversations With Friends.
Meanwhile, Swift is set to continue her groundbreaking The Eras Tour this coming weekend with a trio of shows at Tampa, Fla.’s Raymond James Stadium. Earlier this week, she made her first public appearance post-split by stepping out in New York City for dinner with Jack Antonoff and his fiancée Margaret Qualley. (Ironically, the meal was reportedly at West Village hotspot Via Carota, just blocks away from her former Cornelia Street apartment — an Easter egg of a detail that naturally sent Swifties spiraling online.)
America still loves The Beach Boys. A Grammy Salute to the Beach Boys, which aired on CBS on Sunday April 9, was No. 1 in its time period with 5.18 million viewers and was the night’s No. 2 primetime broadcast in viewers. (The night’s champ was its lead-in, the venerable 60 Minutes, with 6.43 million viewers.)
The two-hour program had the largest audience for a Grammy Salute special since A Grammy Salute to Prince, which aired on April 21, 2020.
Here’s a sign of how just long The Beach Boys have been a cultural institution. The band first hit the Billboard Hot 100 in February 1962, more than six years before 60 Minutes, one of the longest running shows in TV history, went on the air.
A Grammy Salute to the Beach Boys was produced by Tenth Planet Productions. Joel Gallen, Rick Krim and Irving Azoff served as executive producers and Rick Austin as co-executive producer. Gallen also directed the special.
The special featured performances by Andy Grammar, Beck, Jim James, Brandi Carlile, John Legend, Charlie Puth, Fall Out Boy, Foster the People, Hanson, Norah Jones, Lady A, John Legend, Little Big Town, Luke Spiller, Taylor Momsen, Michael McDonald, Take 6, Mumford & Sons, My Morning Jacket, Pentatonix, LeAnn Rimes, St. Vincent, and Weezer.
It also featured appearances by fellow music icons Elton John and Bruce Springsteen; actors Tom Hanks, Drew Carey and John Stamos; Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. and former chair of the academy’s board of trustees Jimmy Jam.
The Beach Boys entered into a partnership with Azoff’s Iconic Artists Group (Iconic) in 2021 to preserve and grow their legacy in a digital era. Iconic also represents such artists as Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Linda Ronstadt, David Crosby and Stephen Stills.
“This celebration highlights, once again, the power of the Beach Boys music to influence today’s biggest artists and reach new generations of fans,” said Jimmy Edwards, president of Iconic.

Lady Gaga returns to the top 10 of Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, rising to No. 10 on the list dated April 15 with her resurrected track “Bloody Mary.”
Originally released on the superstar’s 2011 album Born This Way, the song surged on TikTok sparked by the new Netflix Addams Family spin-off series Wednesday, despite the fact that the track isn’t actually featured in the show.
In the series, the titular character appears in a dance sequence soundtracked by The Cramps’ 1981 single “Goo Goo Muck.” Fans took the clip to TikTok but replaced “Goo Goo Muck” with a sped-up version of “Bloody Mary,” which then went viral. Lady Gaga herself participated in the trend by re-creating the dance. The song’s sped-up mix was subsequently included in Netflix’s promo for Wednesday’s forthcoming second season.
After debuting on Pop Airplay (Dec. 31, 2022), “Bloody Mary,” being promoted to top 40 radio by Interscope Records, completes a 16-week run up the chart to the top 10. Notably, it’s her first top 10 on the ranking, among 14 total, with no accompanying acts in nearly 10 years, since “Applause” hit No. 4 in November 2013.
Here’s a rundown of Lady Gaga’s 14 Pop Airplay top 10s:
“Just Dance,” feat. Colby O’Donis, No. 1 (two weeks), January 2009
“Poker Face,” No. 1 (five weeks), April-May 2009
“LoveGame,” No. 1 (two weeks), July-August 2009
“Paparazzi,” No. 1 (two weeks), November 2009
“Bad Romance,” No. 1 (three weeks), January 2010
“Telephone,” feat. Beyoncé, No. 1 (four weeks), March-April 2010
“Alejandro,” No. 4, June 2010
“Born This Way,” No. 1 (one week), April 2011
“The Edge of Glory,” No. 3, July 2011
“You and I,” No. 7, October 2011
“Applause,” No. 4, November 2013
“Do What U Want,” feat. R. Kelly, No. 7, January 2014
“Rain on Me,” with Ariana Grande, No. 10, July 2020
“Bloody Mary,” No. 10 (to-date), April 2023
Nearly 12 years after its May 2011 release, Born This Way, thus, generates its fourth Pop Airplay top 10, as “Bloody Mary” joins the title track, “The Edge of Glory” and “You and I.” Two other songs from the set reached the chart’s top 15 in 2011: second single “Judas” (No. 15) and fifth single “Marry the Night” (No. 14).
To date, “Bloody Mary” has drawn 401 million in all-format radio airplay audience and 166 million official on-demand streams and sold 92,000 downloads in the United States, according to Luminate.
“Bloody Mary” is among a wave of older songs scoring new life, likewise largely sparked by newfound virality on TikTok. Also in the latest Pop Airplay chart’s top 10, The Weeknd’s “Die for You,” from 2016 and recently remixed with Ariana Grande, ranks at No. 4, following two weeks at No. 1 in February, and Miguel’s “Sure Thing,” another song originally from 2011, jumps to No. 8 (up 25% in plays, good for the list’s Greatest Gainer award), becoming his first top 10 on the tally.
Netflix unveiled the first look at its new action movie The Mother starring Jennifer Lopez on Tuesday (April 11).
In the film, the superstar plays a deadly assassin living a solitary life in the Alaskan wilderness after giving birth to a daughter she was forced to give up. However, when big baddies played by Joseph Fiennes and Gael García Bernal kidnap the girl 12 years later in a bid for revenge, Lopez’s trained killer comes out of hiding to protect the one thing she loves most — even though the preteen doesn’t know she’s her mother.
“You’d burn down our entire world just for her?” Fiennes asks in a tense, snowy confrontation. Naturally, Lopez responds with a resolute “Yes” before a wild showdown in hand-to-hand combat ensues.
“I’m a killer … but I’m also a mother. And I will die protecting her,” she goes on to promise while shooting guns, racing snowmobiles, dodging explosions and even staring down a white wolf with blood dripping from its mouth.
The Mother will be released on the streamer just in time for Mother’s Day on May 12, and is quite the pivot from Lopez’s most recent roles in romantic comedies such as 2022’s Shotgun Wedding and Marry Me. In addition to Fiennes and García Bernal, the thriller also stars Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, Lucy Paez, Jesse Garcia, Yvonne Senat Jones and more and was helmed by Niki Caro, who also directed Disney’s 2020 live-action adaptation of Mulan.

Iam Tongi is already a fan-favorite on this 21st season of ABC’s American Idol. After delivering another grade-A performance, as he did with a haunting cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound Of Silence” on Monday night (April 10), the youngster is firming as a potential champion.

The high schooler has overcome the loss of his dad, and some major technical issues, to glide into Idol’s Hollywood Week.
Tongi’s vocals are both robust and sweet, with layers and angles few of us are gifted with. And when he’s at the mic, the spirit of Tongi’s father is never far.
Music and song was a force that connected the pair. “When Iam’s dad passed away,” the contestant’s mom says in a package, “he didn’t wanna sing anymore. He kept saying that every time he sings, he could hear his dad backing up. After talking to him… it’s a beautiful thing that he could hear his dad.”
On Monday’s episode, the teenage hopeful gave us another earful of his talents, this time with a reinterpretation of the Graduate classic.
The performance had Katy Perry reaching for the tissues. Later, during a sit down with all three judges, Perry told Tongi his “showstopping song” was a “brilliant pick. It made the room go silent. It gave more depth, more color, more layers to who you are.”
Flanked by Matt Wilson and Colin Stough, Tongi was reminded there’s only one more spot in the top 24. And he got it.
Plot twist. Perry had the honors of telling Matt Wilson and Colin Stough that Idol’s producers have blown up the 24-finalist format, and switched it to a contest for 26. And they’re both in.
The top 26 head through to Tongi’s homeland, for sessions with celebrity mentors and a concert at Hawaii’s Aulani Resort.

With Esten on the guitar, the duo harmonized in the chorus of the ode to nostalgia, which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart dated August 3, 1985. The song, featured on Springsteen’s Born in the U.S.A., spent a total of 18 weeks on the tally.
Other songs Clarkson has recently taken on for her Kellyoke segment include Lenny Kravitz’s cover of “American Woman,” GAYLE’s Grammy-nominated breakout “abcdefu” — complete with tweaked lyrics to allude to her divorce from Brandon Blackstock — and Janet Jackson’s “When I Think of You.”
Clarkson is also gearing up to release her highly anticipated album Chemistry, her first project of original, non-holiday music since 2017’s Meaning of Life. The studio set’s lead single “Mine” is set to arrive April 14 via Atlantic Records.

Kim Kardashian is a reality star, entrepreneur and skincare mogul — and now she’s adding high-profile actress to her list.
The SKIMS founder is joining Emma Roberts in FX’s American Horror Story for its 12th season, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the role she’ll take on was written specifically for her.
“Kim is among the biggest and brightest television stars in the world and we are thrilled to welcome her to the AHS family,” said AHS co-creator Ryan Murphy told the publication. “Emma and I are excited about collaborating with this true force in the culture. Halley Feiffer has written a fun, stylish and ultimately terrifying role especially for Kim, and this season is ambitious and unlike anything we have ever done.”

After a week of misunderstandings and onstage drama, American Idol hopeful Nutsa Buzaladze is redeeming herself. On the latest episode of the competition series, she tearfully apologized to Katy Perry — who last week told the 25-year-old singer to have more “grace” — and shared her take on what went down during her contentious duet rehearsals with Carina DeAngelo.
During last week’s duet round performances, DeAngelo threw Buzaladze under the bus by telling Perry and co-judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie that “some people wanted to sleep instead of working.” Buzaladze was visibly upset about the remark, but chose to keep silent — even as the “Firework” singer instructed her, “don’t forget about grace.”
“I wanted to tell my side of the story and I felt so bad, I was frozen,” she tearfully reflected in a sit-down with the judges that aired Sunday (April 9). “I didn’t want to bring negative energy, so that’s why I didn’t say nothing. I didn’t speak up because I didn’t want to cry on stage. After I left the stage I was just destroyed. So I wanted to apologize for that.”
Immediately, Perry stood up and hugged Buzaladze — who, in spite of the drama, moved forward to the next round while DeAngelo was sent home. “That is great,” Perry said. “That’s so wonderful and Nutsa, what I meant by grace is that it’s OK to be determined and ambitious and edgy and strong, but also with grace.”
“I really relate to you because I know what’s like to be a strong woman … to want to be strong and to never break and feel like nothing can ever get to me but that’s not real,” she added. “You’re a real person with a big heart and a big talent.”
In an April 4 Instagram post, Buzaladze — who this week proceeded to perform a show-stopping solo rendition of Tina Turner’s “Proud Mary” — explained in more detail what happened offstage between her and DeAngelo. “I want y’all to know that I took a 17-hour flight to get to LA, just 1.5 days before the shooting,” she wrote. “I did not know that we had additional vocal rehearsals, probably I missed this information , my bad. However, once Carina called me, I prepared myself and came back, as soon as I could, to rehearse even more.”
“I realized Carina was not feeling comfortable by that time and I did my best to rehearse as much as she wanted, I really wanted to make this experience unforgettable for both of us,” she continued. “She is a very talented girl, with strong vocals and I am sure she will achieve a lot in her career life and I wish her all the best.”
