Starring Annie Gonzalez (Flamin’ Hot, Gentefied) as the iconic Mexican-American banda singer, the movie follows Rivera from her humble beginnings in her hometown of Long Beach, California, to her rise as one of the most famous female regional Mexican artists, and the last days before her tragic and unexpected death.
“JENNI also shows the struggles that she endured in her personal life and how she became the artist fans all know and love today, and how she persevered and found strength from within,” adds the press release. “This story of resilience and bravery shows the building blocks of what made Jenni Rivera who she was and the remarkable legacy she left behind.”

The trailer starts with Gonzalez — who also sings and is credited as executive producer — performing Rivera’s early song “La Chacalosa” at a night club. “My life ain’t no fairy tale,” she’s heard saying while the song continues in the background and a collage of scenes shows Jenni’s struggles with teenage pregnancy, domestic violence and stumbles with the law, but also her ascend to stardom and role as the proud mother of five.
Rivera paved the way for women in Música Mexicana, a genre that to this day is dominated by male artists. Her anthemic songs, including “La Gran Señora” and “Inolvidable,” offered empowering lyrics and became a source of inspiration for women everywhere.
Known as “La Diva de la Banda,” she was the single most successful woman in regional Mexican music and on the Billboard Latin charts when she tragically died in a plane crash in 2012 at the age of 43. Among other achievements, she entered more than 30 songs on Regional Mexican Airplay, including 15 top 10s and her No. 1 hit “De Contrabando.” On Hot Latin Songs chart, she placed a total of 25 songs. La Misma Gran Señora gave her her third No. 1 on Top Latin Albums in December 2012, ruling for eight weeks and becoming her longest charting title, remaining on the tally for 73 weeks.
JENNI‘s cast includes Manuel Uriza as Pedro Rivera, Jenni’s father and Regional Mexican entrepreneur; Cinthya Carmona as her oldest daughter, singer Chiquis Rivera; and Jero Medina and Miguel Angel Garcia as Trino Marín, Jenni’s first husband and father of her three oldest children, at different stages in his life. Gabriela Reynoso plays Jenni’s mother, Rosa Saavedra; J.R. Villarreal plays Juan “Cinco” Lopez, Jenni’s late second husband; and newcomer Tatiana Alicia Beltrán portrays the young Jenni Rivera.
JENNI was produced by Javier Chapa and Phillip Braun of Mucho Mas Media and Alec Meachem from De Line Pictures, under the direction of Gigi Saul Guerrero with a screenplay by Shane McKenzie and Kate Lanier.

There’s a reason some people refer to Celine Dion as the “queen of pop.” Her gravity-defying vocals have inspired a generation of singers on the way to selling more than 200 million albums worldwide churning out such iconic hits as “My Heart Will Go On,” “The Power of Love,” “Because You Loved Me” and “All By Myself,” among many others. But in 2022 the indomitable power vocalist shared that she was diagnosed with the autoimmune disorder Stiff Person Syndrome.
The rare neurological disorder that can cause uncontrolled muscle spasms that make it hard to move forced Dion to cancel her planned 2023 tour as her sister revealed that the singer had “no control” over her muscles. Her difficult journey navigating the disease is the subject of the moving documentary I Am: Celine Dion, whose first trailer was unveiled on Thursday morning (May 23).

The two-minute teaser opens with Dion, 56, in her prime, belting out one of her patented power ballad notes in the studio as she playfully worries if the sound man survived the vocal onslaught. “My voice is the conductor of my life,” Dion says in voice-over over footage of her on stage throughout the years. “When your voice brings you joy, you’re the best of yourself… I need my instrument.”
Then, the Canadian singer — who has been wowing audiences around the world since she was a teenager — delves into being diagnosed with SPS as an unseen voice is heard calling 9-1-1 to report a medical emergency. “I wasn’t ready to say anything before… but I’m ready now,” Dion says exhaling deeply with a pained look on her face in one of the first prolonged glimpses of her since the diagnosis took her out of the public eye.
Walking through her costume archive, Dion says, “I see my life, and I love every piece of it. When a girl loves her shoes, she’ll always make them fit,” as she stands in front of racks of her stage gear. The rest of the trailer jumps between live footage of a vibrant, electric Dion on stage at various times in her career as she describes the “magic” she’s created in concert over four decades in the spotlight.
“It’s not hard to do a show, you know?,” she says over footage of her taking her daily regimen of pills, doctor’s appointments and a catch in the backyard with one of her three sons. “It’s hard to cancel a show.” Dion says she’s working hard every day to get better, as evidenced by film of her practicing ballet moves in a studio. “But I have to admit,” she says tearily, “it’s been a struggle. I miss it so much, the people. I miss them. If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl.”
The trailer ends with Dion in the studio belting an unheard song as she promises, “I won’t stop” over the strains of one of her most beloved power ballads, 1996’s “It’s All Coming Back to Me Now.” The Amazon MGM Studios film was directed by Irene Taylor (Beware the Slenderman) and will debut on Prime Video on June 25.

Vince Staples shouldn’t need an introduction to most readers of this space, considering the potency and ingenuity of his musical career. The Long Beach, Calif. native is now entering a new phase via a new television series, The Vince Staples Show, which will debut next month.
On Wednesday (Jan. 17), Netflix shared the official trailer for The Vince Staples Show, starring Staples in the lead role with Kenya Barris (Black-ish, Girls Trip) as an executive producer.
According to Netflix, the show centers on Staples but it isn’t clear from the early synopsis which version of the rapper and now actor we’re witnessing. What viewers should expect is Staples’ usual deadpan and biting humor and intelligent writing.
In the clip, Staples returns to his home and romantic partner to unwind after a long day. When asked about his travels, Staples neglects to share all of the several zany things that happened to him, including being involved in the middle of a bank robbery and duking it out at the carnival.
Created by Staples, Ian Edelman, and Maurice Williams, the show is said to be a “limited series of satirical tales” so we can expect some over-the-top visuals and storytelling for sure. If you’ve bore witness to a Staples interview, you’ll understand what we mean.
The Vince Staples Show is executive produced by Staples, Kenya Barris for Khalabo Ink Society, Ian Edelman, Maurice Williams, Corey Smyth, and William Stefan Smith.
The show makes its official debut on Feb. 14, 2024. Check out the trailer below.

Snoop Dogg has a new comedy movie coming out next year, but luckily for fans, they won’t have to carve out time of their busy schedule to see it in theaters as it will be releasing exclusively on Amazon Prime.
According to Deadline, The Underdoggs, starring Snoop Dogg, will be skipping the planned theatrical Jan. 26, 2024 release and instead go directly to streaming on Prime Video so it can be enjoyed in the comfort of your own home. Directed by Charles Stone III, the film follows a former football star (Snoop Dogg), who’s egotistical ways land him in hot water with the law, and he has to repay society by undertaking a new venture that’s sure to end up softening him up after it’s all said and done.
Deadline reports:
Written by Danny Segal and Isaac Schamis, The Underdoggs follows Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings, a washed-up former pro football star, who hits rock bottom and is sentenced to community service coaching an unruly pee-wee football team in his hometown. During the course of this, he may just turn his life around and rediscover his love of the game in the process.
The movie stars Tika Sumpter, Andrew Schulz, Mike Epps and George Lopez.
Going straight to Prime Video is probably the right call as we don’t see the film being a box office smash or even modestly successful to be honest. Maybe if it dropped in the late ’90s. Just sayin’.
The role itself should be a walk in the park for Snoop as the man was actually a coach in the Snoop Youth Football League back in 2005. An actual football star he was not, and we don’t think with that slender frame anyone would believe he ever was (no shots).
Check out the trailer to The Underdoggs below, and let us know if you’ll be checking for it when it debuts on Amazon Prime come Jan. 26, 2024.
