the lox

The Lox have been top-tier lyricists for the better part of three decades, and the bandmates, podcast partners, and longtime friends have continued to showcase their excellence. In a new episode in the Red Bull Spiral Freestyle series, The Lox deliver a powerful one-take performance and put on for their hometown of Yonkers and Hip-Hop.

The Red Bull Spiral Freestyle series has been buzzing after Big Sean, Ab-Soul, and East Coast warlord Joey BadA$$ torched the cypher and reignited the coastal feud that is currently dominating Hip-Hop.

Keeping things firmly in the east, the trio of Sheek Louch, Styles P, and Jadakiss show off their well-honed abilities and undeniable chemistry. After a pre-performance hook from the Silverback Gorilla, aka Sheek Louch, with help from his brothers, Styles P opens the cypher with a fine-tuned barrage of bars. Louch followed up after Holiday Styles, and Jadakiss closed out the performance and sounded invigorated next to his team.

The Lox can still bar it down, and the group is involved in a variety of projects, with Jadakiss hosting a podcast with Fat Joe, and all three of the brothers podcasting with the ItsTheReal team. However, with a performance like this, fans are certainly hoping for a new project from the trio.

The LOX had their turn at a Tiny Desk Concert on NPR, and Hip-Hop fans are absolutely loving it if social media reactions are any indication.

The Yonkers’ three-headed rap monster of Jadakiss, Sheek Louch and Styles P performed with a live band, and there shouldn’t even be a question that it was fire (see: Verzuz). Over 30 years (y’all are old) in the game means that the former Bad Boy and Ruff Ryders MC’s are just as comfortable performing with live musicians as they are with their DJ, Technician The DJ, who was also on hand, too.
Our only beef was that the limited time meant a limited set list and the LOX have a deep catalog of hits, be they singles or fan-favorite albums. Nevertheless, they hit key joints, whether from the group proper (“Money, Power & Respect”) or their solo hits like “Good Times” and “We Gonna Make It” from Styles and Kiss, respectively. And nope, “The Benjamins” didn’t enter the chat, for obvious reasons.
Check out reactions from fans and full concert in the gallery. This is a great way to start the weekend.

The LOX and Dipset Verzuz was one of the most memorable moments in Hip-Hop ever. Jim Jones is requesting both groups do a round two.

As spotted on Vibe Magazine the Harlem, New York native recently did an interview with AllHipHop.com. While he discussed a variety of topics include his new album Back In My Prime the hosts got him to speak about the iconic night at Madison Square Garden. Surprisingly the “We Fly High” rapper revealed he thinks a rematch is in order. “I don’t think that energy will ever be duplicated outside of New York unless we go for the rematch, you heard?” explained. “The way I’m thinking about it is last time, there was a lot going on. The venue was way too small. There were people on my back. There were people on people’s shoulders in there.”

Jim Jones also went to say only one venue can really host an event of this magnitude. “I think we need proper respect of doing it in the Garden, the big Garden, with proper security, set up right so everybody have breathing room. Not using it as no excuse, but we need a rematch for the city. I’m putting it out there. I’m putting it out there like Rocky after he lost to Apollo Creed. And we gonna be ready like hot spaghetti.”
Swizz Beatz and Timberland have to comment on exploring a rematch. You can see Jim discuss his dreams for a round two below.
