“Not Like Us” has become an anthem that’s inescapable at this point, and ubiquitous in pop culture as it returns to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. But not everyone is thrilled to hear Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track everywhere — including Steph Curry.
Following USA Basketball’s dominant 105-79 exhibition victory over Nikola Jokic and Serbia on Wednesday (July 17), the arena DJ in Abu Dhabi bumped the Mustard-produced banger, and the Golden State Warriors superstar was caught voicing his frustration.
“Damn with this song. It’s not the only song in America,” Curry pleaded. LeBron James pushed back as he seems to be enjoying the “Not Like Us” explosion. “I love it,” James can be heard saying at mid-court while rounding up his teammates.

Shooting guard Anthony Edwards appears to be on LeBron’s side, as he can be seen at the end of the clip dancing to “Not Like Us.”
Steph’s reaction caused quite a stir on social media, as Jermaine Dupri, responded, essentially saying today’s rap culture just isn’t used to massive hits such as “Not Like Us” dominating the landscape.
“I just saw Steph’s reaction to the Kendrick record and I thought it was very ironic because what he is feeling (Pause ) is a record impacting the streets and this new generation is not use to that,I’m sure many of yall don’t understand what I’m saying,” he wrote on Instagram.
JD continued to share his thoughts in an accompanying video while walking. “The goal in hip-hop used to be impact, not sales, not charts — impact. How hard you could impact the streets,” he said. “That’s no longer the goal and — to me — that is the sole reason why rap isn’t what rap used to be because n—-s don’t care about impacting the streets no more.”
DJ Jazzy Jeff chimed in on the matter in the comments, saying, “I think what the issue is we used to have a few songs with this impact at the same time to spread it out alil more…because we haven’t had a Lean Back or a In Da Club in so long.”
Kevin Durant defended his former teammate in a comment online, saying, “Maybe bro just wanna hear another song.”
Perhaps Curry was surprised to be hearing “Not Like Us” across the globe in the United Arab Emirates. Although, Team USA could be making “Not Like Us” their victory song, as they fittingly played Kendrick’s hit after defeating Canada last week.
Time will tell if the arena DJs keep playing the hit, or listen to Curry and pull back following the team’s next exhibition contest, which comes on July 22 against Germany in London.

Cody Johnson offered a sterling performance of the national anthem on Tuesday (July 16), just before the second evening of the MLB’s All-Star game.
Appropriately, the MLB got native Texan Johnson to perform the national anthem for the game, which was held at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, home to the Texas Rangers.
As the cameras centered on Johnson — who was clad in a suit jacket, jeans and a white shirt — he removed his signature cowboy hat before delivering an expertly rendered version of “The Star-Spangled Banner.”
Johnson was well-prepared for the moment, having spent years on the road, building his fanbase concert by concert and becoming a well-known performer in Texas before breaking through to the mainstream in 2022 with his hit “‘Til You Can’t,” which was named single of the year by the Country Music Association.
Johnson’s performance came one night after fellow country singer-songwriter Ingrid Andress, known for her hit “More Hearts Than Mine,” performed another memorable version of the national anthem at the MLB’s Home Run Derby — a pitchy version that sparked a torrent of criticism from viewers.
Trending on Billboard
Andress spoke out and owned up to the performance, posting a statement on her social media pages that read, “I’m not gonna bulls–t y’all. I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility today to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to the MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun. xo, Ingrid.”
The national anthem is notoriously hard to sing, and Andress is far from the first artist to spark backlash after performing the tune. Musicians including Fergie, Christina Aguilera and Steven Tyler have earned criticism for their performances of the song.
Johnson will return to headline at Globe Life Field later this year, when he brings his Leather Tour to the stadium on Nov. 9.

Joe Bryant, the father of the late Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant, has died according to reports. Joe Bryant, nicknamed Jellybean, was a Philadelphia native who played basketball and coached in the city reportedly suffered a stroke.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Joe Bryant suffered a stroke based on comments made by La Salle University Men’s Basketball Head Coach Fran Dunphy. Bryant’s passing happened well over four years after the death of Kobe Bryant and his granddaughter Gigi Bryant on January 26, 2020.
According to the Inquirer, Bryant earned the nickname Jellybean due to his love of sweet treats and was a star player at Bartram High School and La Salle University ahead of being drafted in the first round of the 1975 NBA Draft by the Golden State Warriors. After eight seasons in the league, including four with the Philadelphia 76ers, Bryant established himself as a player in Italy and Europe, where a young Kobe picked up the Italian language
The outlet adds that a distance became apparent between Kobe Bryant and his father after being drafted right out of Lower Merion High School by the Los Angeles Lakers. After the death of his son and granddaughter, the elder Bryant never spoke about the loss, signaling just how far the rift between them was.
Joe Bryant was 69.

Much like Fergie‘s unforgettable performance at the 2018 NBA All-Star game, Ingrid Andress‘ rendition of the national anthem at the Home Run Derby Monday (July 15) is going viral for all the wrong reasons. The four-time Grammy winner was subjected to online ridicule well before she stepped away from the microphone at Globe Life Field […]
In case you missed it, Cam’ron and Mase went viral once again for a sports take.
During an episode of their sports talk show It Is What It Is, the subject of boxer Shakur Stevenson’s latest fight came up and the rapper turned pastor to turned sports commentator called Stevenson’s style of boxing boring. Shakur didn’t take to kindly to the Harlem rapper’s opinion, and initiated a back and forth between the two camps on social media (which we covered here.)
Now it seems J. Prince has gotten in the mix.

Prince — who has been managing the Newark boxer since 2016 — sent the Harlem duo the message below on Instagram yesterday:
Trending on Billboard
“Let the haters say that he’s boring and nobody wants to watch him. Sorry to tell you it’s just a select few of you haters. As you can see there’s proof that he has the number one ratings in any fight on ESPN this year and the top three ratings since 2022. And to all of you haters who want to escalate that hate outside of the ring I’m Shakur’s manager and I handle all his business outside of the ring. In other words Cam and Mase I will fade all his shots and take all bets.”
Naturally, Cam and Mase responded this morning on the latest episode of It Is What It Is.
“When you dealing with older people, they’re the last to know that things have changed,” Mase said. “We not your lil’ n—s. All that big homie stuff, that’s for little n—s. We’re not little n—s so we don’t even respect big homies. I know Killa doesn’t. And for me? I never respected n—s in the streets, that’s why I always got the problems I got.”
He then added, “If you 60 years old and you tryna be a street n—a, you failed. My name is Mase. I stand by this message.”
The former Bad Boy artist also revealed that he recently spoke to the Texas mogul via FaceTime call with Ye and the convo was a positive one. “So I don’t even know why he would come at me with that energy. I felt really disrespected. It’s certain people you supposed to come at like that and I’m not one of them.”
Cam agreed with his co-host and added his two cents, saying, “Why do you think that you can tell us what we can and cannot say. Control your n—a! Ain’t nobody gon’ tell a n—a, ‘Get the strap’ and then we gon’ sit there and be like, ‘I think we should shut up.’” Adding, “Nah, n—a. This is not 1982, bro. You buggin’, James. I don’t know what bet you talking about and all that other slang. Whatever bet you talking about, bet it.”
