Iron Mike Tyson is returning to the ring, and pay-per-view won’t be needed since it’s going down on Netflix. The boxing icon will be squaring up with YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul in July, but they held their first press conference on Monday, May 13 in Harlem to promote the fight.
Source: Sarah Stier / Getty Images for Netflix
Tyson (50-6, 44 KOs) and Jake “El Gallo de Dorado” Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) came face to face at The Apollo Theater in Harlem for a lighthearted press conference hosted by combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani. The two friends, who have been calling each other out for years, traded relatively tame shots, but Tyson was clear that once they enter that ring, they are not homies. “Once he’s in that ring, he has to fight like his life depends on it, because it will be,” said Iron Mike, who also drew laughs when he admitted he felt terrible and was “sore” from training.
With Mike pushing 60, Paul is no slouch, and is plenty confident. “I’m going to show the world that I can outbox Mike Tyson, prove everyone wrong, and show that I will be the one doing the killing,” said Paul.
Good luck with that.
Paul and Tyson are scheduled to go eight, two-minute round for their pro bout. The fight will be streaming live globally on Netflix on Saturday, July 20, 2024 from the home of the Dallas Cowboys, AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Also in attendance was the top tier “undercard” match up of super lightweight world champion Katie Taylor (23-1, 6 KOs) and Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (46-2-1, 30 KOs), the unified featherweight world champion. In this rematch, Taylor will be defending her undisputed title in a scheduled 10, two-minute rounds.

Shaquille O’Neal is no stranger to the rap world and with beef running rampant throughout the genre, the NBA icon is ready for battle.
NFL Hall-of-Famer Shannon Sharpe heavily criticized Shaq on his Nightcap podcast earlier this week after the former Laker critiqued Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic winning a third NBA MVP in four years.
Shaq said that Oklahoma City guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander “deserved” to win the title, and he candidly told that to Jokic’s face in an interview after collecting his latest accolade.

Sharpe took issue with O’Neal’s remarks. “Shaq should have five MVP’s,” he said. “He sees a guy like Nikola Jokic that’s not as dominant as him and gets three in four years. When you historically great, they talk about you as a great basketball player, the GOAT, and Shaq is never brought up.
Trending on Billboard
Sharpe continued, accusing Shaq of jealousy. “I think a part of him is envious of that … It’s hard for me to put someone in the GOAT conversation with one MVP. If Shaq would have had my work ethic, he would have had 40,000 points,” he added.
O’Neal took to Instagram early Friday (May 10) to serve up a scintillating and long-winded response on his Instagram featuring a photo that had Sharpe ranked at the No. 51 best player of all time.
“You took me sticking up for @shai as jealousy?? Shows how smart you are and how you say anything to get clicks. so here’s some click bait for you. if you ain’t ranked in the top ten in your profession , then you can’t speak on Me. don’t forget i know what you did to get where you at,” he wrote.
“Me jealous lol sounds like you jealous. i kno you tryna stay relevant by gossiping on your podcast. we don’t believe you. you need more people and in case you forgot. 4 rings three finals Mvp top 50 and top 75. google me.”
His caption sounded as if it could’ve been a fiery rap. Hours later, Shaq served up an actual Shannon Sharpe diss track on Friday’s episode of The Big Podcast.
“Oh no, Shannon Sharpe man, you’re way beneath me/ Your whole demeanor is faker than new rapper beefy/ You’re soft before you get fly, you’d rather tweet me/ I was in three different cars when you was in three feet/ All I see is dollar signs, they coming in 3-D,” he spews.
“Make it hot, ain’t no way around my degrees/ You are not in my spot, you are like a peewee/ I’ve got him calling me Rocky the way I RiRi,” he spit. “I get to the green bag, I don’t mean a lawnmower/ Jet flying, foreign driving, best buying, downpour.”

The WNBA is back for what could be a defining season for the league. Preseason launches with Caitlin Clark making her Indiana Fever debut against the Dallas Wings on Friday (May 3).
“The embrace has been amazing,” Clark said of Indiana in a recent interview. “I think coming to a city that really supports [not just] basketball, but women’s basketball specifically, I couldn’t really imagine a better place to be playing my first WNBA season. I’m super excited.”
Of course, Clark isn’t the only rookie making her debut. Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardosa will also suit up tonight, for their first WNBA game with the Chicago Sky on Friday, while Cameron Brink will play her first game with the Los Angeles Sparks on Saturday night (May 4).
