Bowen Yang just wants to fit in during the promo for this weekend’s Saturday Night Live. Standing next to host Cuban/Spanish actress Ana de Armas (Blonde), Colombian musical guest Karol G and Cuban-Dominican SNL castmate Marcello Hernandez, Yang is the odd man out in the first all-Spanish language preview for the show.

The host does the usual intro, saying her name and welcoming Karol as the musical guest in Spanish, while Hernandez tells the singer that it’s going to be a “tremendous night” as he gushes about how much he loves her musical. After Karol says she’s delighted to be there, Yang, desperate to prove his funky bilingual bona fides, casually drops all the Spanish he learned in high school, adding, “yo soy la playa.”

“You are the beach?” Hernandez wonders. “Yes, I am the beach,” Yang concurs confidently, as de Armas confirms, “Bowen is the beach.”

One of the other bits setting up this weekend’s show finds Yang telling de Armas that he loved her as Marilyn Monroe in Blonde, as Karol G says she also loved the actress in Bond, — as in 2021’s No Time To Die — while Hernandez keeps the rhyme time going by saying he is “fond” of her work in the movie Ghosted. This time, however, Marcello is the one on the outside looking in, as he apologizes for his clumsy attempt to keep the rhyme going.

The Spanish-heavy promo was fitting as Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito made her the first artist to land an all-Spanish language album by a female artist to debut atop the Billboard 200 album chart last month; it was also Karol’s first No. 1 album on the chart.

Saturday Night Live airs at 11:30 p.m. ET on Saturday (April 15) and then streams on Peacock after.

The Jonas Brothers previewed new songs from their upcoming release, The Album, during Saturday Night Live on April 8.

The trio opened with their catchy new single “Waffle House” and followed with the debut live performance of “Walls,” featuring Jon Bellion. Both performances were backed by a choir and featured Joe Jonas center stage, flanked by his brothers Nick and Kevin.

“Waffle House” is the second single off the Jonas Brothers’ forthcoming ’70s-inspired studio set, The Album. It follows the soaring lead single “Wings.” The project is scheduled for release on May 12 through Republic Records.

“‘Waffle House’ was born from a simple but powerful idea: When you sit down with the people that matter most, anything is possible. This song isn’t about a restaurant, it’s about coming together with the people you love and making your dreams come true,” the siblings said in a statement about the track.

Molly Shannon, who reprised her character Sally O’Malley for a sketch featuring the JoBros, served as host during the April 8 episode of SNL.

Earlier in the week, the Jonas Brothers announced that they’re headed to Yankee Stadium in New York for a special, one-night-only concert on Aug. 12. The three-piece will perform their five albums during the show, including their upcoming sixth studio set.

Lil Yachty took viewers on a trip during Saturday Night Live on April 1.

For his musical guest debut on the iconic sketch comedy show, the 25-year-old rapper — who appeared on Billboard‘s cover in March — performed a pair of tracks from his mind-bending psychedelic album, Let’s Start Here., which dropped earlier this year.

Yachty transformed the Studio 8H into a swamp-like atmosphere for his performances of “the BLACK seminole.” and “drive ME crazy!” The moody nighttime performances featured backing by singer-songwriter Diana Gordon and a full band.

Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson served as host during the April 1 episode of SNL.

Let’s Start Here., Yachty’s foray into the rock world, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock & Alternative Albums, Top Rock Albums and Top Alternative Albums in early February. The set peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard 200.

“I did what I really wanted to do, which was create a body of work that reflected me,” Yachty told Billboard of Let’s Start Here. “My idea was for this album to be a journey: Press play and fall into a void.”

But will the show go on as planned? April 1 is the date that post-production editors at SNL, represented by the Motion Picture Editors Guild (IATSE Local 700), have threatened a potential strike over pay and benefits.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source close to the contract negotiations said NBC pledged to have a deal by the end of March.

Before Lil Yachty’s schedule appearance on SNL, he’ll perform at Billboard Presents The Stage at SXSW on March 16, presented by Doritos. Read his recent Billboard cover story here.

Ahead of the 2023 Academy Awards, Saturday Night Live hilariously mocked the red carpet segment of the Oscars pre-show during the iconic sketch comedy show’s cold open on March 11.
The eight-minute skit opened with SNL‘s Marcello Hernandez and Heidi Gardner portraying Access Hollywood hosts Mario Lopez and “Maria Menounos or Kit Hoover” interviewing a wide range of celebrities on the red carpet ahead of the Oscars in Hollywood.

“We are so excited to have been standing outside the Dolby Theatre for almost 153 hours,” Hernandez’s Lopez said. “But it’s all worth it to ask Angela Bassett if she really did the thing.”

After referencing Will Smith‘s infamous slap of Chris Rock during last year’s Oscars, the hosts welcomed the ceremony’s new head of security, former heavyweight boxing champ Mike Tyson (played by Kenan Thompson).

“This year, to make sure nothing crazy happens, the Academy hired a new head of security: notoriously calm and sane person, Mike Tyson,” Gardner’s host said.

When asked about the Academy Awards’ new security measures, Thompson’s Tyson replied, “This year, all the nominees have been given tasers, all the seat fillers have been given guns and Jimmy Kimmel has been given a flamethrower.”

Next up on the red carpet was legendary actress Jamie Lee Curtis (portrayed by SNL‘s Chloe Fineman), who praised Ariana DeBose‘s show-opening musical medley at the 2023 BAFTA Awards.

“What Ariana DeBose did at the BAFTAs was fun. It was by far the best live rap performance I’ve seen all year. It was incredible,” Fineman’s Curtis said.

DeBose received backlash on social media after performing an original rap in honor of the female nominees at the Feb. 19 awards show in London. During the rap number, the West Side Story star named-checked famous actresses like Bassett, Curtis, and Viola Davis.

The 95th annual Academy Awards takes place at Hollywood’s Dolby Theater on Sunday (March 12). The show, hosted by Kimmel, airs at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on ABC.

The 1975 returned to Saturday Night Live on March 11, rocking Studio 8H with a pair of songs from their fifth album, Being Funny in a Foreign Language.

Led by charismatic frontman Matt Healy, the British alternative rock outfit took a brief break from touring to light up the stage with performances of “I’m in Love With You” and “Oh Caroline.” Both tracks appear on the band’s Jack Antonoff-produced album, Being Funny in a Foreign Language, which debuted and peaked at No. 7 on the Billboard 200 in October 2022.

This marked The 1975’s second musical guest appearance on SNL. Healy and Co. first appeared on the iconic sketch comedy show in 2016 to promote their second album, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware.

Later this month, The 1975 will play Lalapalooza in Argentina and Chile before embarking on dates in Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Europe and the United Kingdom.

Saturday’s episode of SNL was hosted by Wednesday star Jenna Ortega.

Kelsea Ballerini made her Saturday Night Live debut on March 4, delivering a pair of heartbreaking songs from her new EP, Rolling Up the Welcome Mat.
For her first musical performance of the evening, the 29-year-old country singer confidently stepped onto the Studio 8H stage for an emotional delivery of “Blindsided,” a new track inspired by her recent divorce from singer-songwriter Morgan Evans.

Backed by a full band and donning a zebra patterned black jumpsuit, the three-time Grammy nominee stood amid a large white screen that featured a silhouetted dancer who appeared trapped. At the end of the song, Ballerini added a new verse that some speculate is a response her ex-husband’s post-divorce cut “Over For You.”

“Now you’re singin’ it loud on the radio like you’re the only heart that breaks/ You would’ve searched the whole world over? Yeah, sure, OK,” she sings.

Later in the show, Ballerini returned for a stunning performance of “Penthouse.” This time around, she wore a beautiful silky white gown and delivered the slow ballad in front of a large white piano.

“We played the part five nights, but we were never there on the weekends, baby,” she belted out.

Saturday’s SNL episode was hosted by Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who also made his debut on the iconic NBC sketch comedy show.

Ballerini, who announced her divorce from Evans in August 2022, addressed her marriage’s dissolution on her recent six-song EP, Rolling Up the Welcome Mat, which was released on Valentine’s Day. The project’s handful of songs are littered with details of the couple’s crumbling marriage and the emotional wreckage left in its wake. The EP was accompanied by a 20-minute short film.

Rolling Up the Welcome Mat also follows Ballerini’s 2022 album, Subject to Change, which reflects on her personal growth over the past few years.

Woody Harrelson hilariously showcased his musical chops — to the tune of Adele — during Saturday Night Live on Feb. 25.

In a pre-recorded sketch titled “Musical Promo,” the veteran actor joins other SNL other cast-members in a faux trailer for an upcoming Broadway show, called By Yourself: The Musical, about the little songs people sing to themselves when nobody else is watching.

Harrelson, who hosted SNL for the fifth time on Saturday, launched the cut-for-time skit by sitting alone at his kitchen and singing a catchy tune about his Tupperware-encased dinner. “Chicken, chicken, chicken,” he joyfully croons. “Eatin’ all the chicken in my house.”

Later in the three-minute sketch, after mindless ditties about washing dinner plates (Kenan Thompson) and opening Amazon packages (Molly Kearney), Harrelson returns for a dramatic sendoff to a moldy piece of bread inspired by Adele’s megahit “Hello.”

“Hello, it’s bread/ I forgot that you were there and now you have to go be dead/ See you on the other side,” Harrelson impressively sings to the expired loaf before chucking it into the garbage can.

“Hello,” from the British songstress’ chart-topping third album, 25, spent 10 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2015.

Jack White is officially a member of Saturday Night Live‘s prestigious Five-Timer’s Club.

The White Stripes alum appeared for the fifth time as musical guest during the long-running NBC sketch comedy series on Saturday (Feb. 25), ferociously delivering songs from his 2022 solo albums, Fear of the Dawn and Entering Heaven Alive.

In a cosmic coincidence, Saturday evening’s show was hosted by veteran actor Woody Harrelson, who was also celebrating his fifth appearance on SNL.

“Ladies and gentleman, Jack — you know what? He’s been here five times too, does he get a jacket?” Harrelson joked when introducing White’s first musical performance. “Anyway, ladies and gentleman, Jack White!”

From there, White launched into an electrifying medley of “Taking Me Back” and “Fear of the Dawn,” the opening songs from his 2022 album Fear of the Dawn. For his second performance, the rocker slowed things down with a rendition of “A Tip From You to Me,” from his second 2022 album, Entering Heaven Alive.

White previously rocked the Studio 8H stage in 2002, 2012, 2018 and 2020. His most recent SNL appearance was in 2020 as a last-minute fill-in for country singer Morgan Wallen, who was booted from the lineup for violating the show’s COVID-19 protocols at the height of the pandemic.

Woody Harrelson and Jack White will both join the five-timers club when they appear on Saturday Night Live this weekend. But before they hit the stage, the pair had to clear up a few things with cast member Chloe Fineman in this week’s promo for Saturday’s (Feb. 25) show.
In the first of two bits the trio shot, Harrelson does his job and hypes up White’s appearance, while a thirsty Fineman tries to get something going on the side with the Woodman. “Woody and Chloe back at it again,” she says with sass, snapping her fingers over her head, as White interjects, “Oh, I didn’t know you guys worked together before.”

“Oh, it’s a figure of speech, like ‘Woody and Chloe back at it,’ or ‘Woody and Chloe starring in a hit movie,’” Fineman adds nervously as Harrelson reminds the feature player to stop asking him to cast her in his next movie.

In the second promo Fineman tries to get her groove back and tells Harrelson he’s “the best” host. “Am I?,” he wonders, noting that considering that White is the musical guest, a better pairing might have balanced things out a bit. “Wouldn’t the best host be Jack Black?” he asks.

“You know, white-black, yin-yang, you know I think it could really help bring America together,” he suggests, as Fineman just double-checks to make sure the famously toke-loving actor understands that he does actually have to host this week.

“Stop tearing this country apart, Chloe!,” White implores her.

Harrelson — who appears in the upcoming basketball drama Champions and the HBO political series White House Plumbers — previously hosted Saturday Night Live in 1989, 1992, 2014 and 2019. White who dropped two albums in 2022, April’s Fear of the Dawn and July’s Entering Heaven Alive, has performed on the show five times as well, dating back to his White Stripes days.

The show airs every Saturday live on NBC at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT. For those without cable, the broadcast will also stream on NBC’s streaming service, Peacock, which you can sign up for at the link here. Having a Peacock account also gives fans on demand access to previous SNL episodes as well.
