Nicki Minaj continues to bless The Barbz. She has announced a forthcoming capsule sneaker collection with LØCI.

HipHopDX is reporting that the “Everybody” performer is taking her talents back to the footwear category. On Saturday, March 30, she took to social media to make the announcement.
The Instagram post featured a video teasing the drop where a pink low top can be seen busting through a stone enclosure.

“4/12 = 11 new pairs of my OWN sneaker. 11 completely different designs for you to choose from. An absolute dream come true. I can’t WAIT for you guys to see my 1st collection!!!! Link in bio to SIGN UP NOW!!!!!” Minaj wrote. “Thank you to my team for helping me make this dream come to fruition. This isn’t a sponsorship. I’m an owner & partner & we will be showing you the first complete collection on 4/12. Love you BARBZ. THANK YOU.” she added.

Earlier today (April 1) she posted an additional video that gave her fans a better look at the forthcoming drop. The shoe appears to have an all leather build with a rubber midsole and outsole. On the tongue we get a branded label featuring an image of Nicki Minaj. We also got an on foot photo where she is sporting a pink and white colorway which leads us to believe each pair will come with two sets of laces. “Another sneak peak of my very own sneakers. GAGGGGGGG. 11 diff colors AND designs for my 1st collection coming on #PinkFriday 4/12.” she wrote on the IG post.

NIKE continues to grow one of their most important partnerships with care. The Doernbecher Freestyle XIX Collection has been unveiled.

Source: NIKE / NIke

On Friday, October 27 the sports apparel company announced the latest installment of releases in conjunction with the Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU) Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. Originally launched in 2004 the program has raised over $33 million dollars for the medical facility that provides pediatric care. Each year the program gives six OHSU patients the distinct opportunity to design footwear, clothing and accessories that are auctioned as per the hospital’s fundraiser.

“Created with a team of Nike product experts volunteering their time and expertise, each patient’s collection items are adorned with intricate details, hidden messages and unexpected color palettes to represent their individual passions, life experiences, medical journeys and relationships” the press release read. This year’s drops will highlight six iconic NIKE silhouettes including the Air Jordan III, a Nike Dunk High, a Nike Go FlyEase, a Nike ACG Mountain Fly 2 Low, a Nike Cortez and a Nike Air Max 1 ’86.
Each of the pieces, ranging from tops, hats, bags and sneakers, all carry the patient-designer’s thematic through out. Hugo Covarrubias Molina’s Air Jordan III for example feature his catch phrase “It’s OK To Be Different” on a transparent outsole with matching green slime on the heel and quarter panel. Hailey Leyva’s Air Max ‘86 has five hand drawn hearts, each representing the members of her family, on the toe box.
The NIKE Doernbecher Freestyle XIC Collection will be available in December. You can read more about the partnership here.

One of the most popular luxury shoes is coming back but not for better. Balenciaga is bringing back their Speed Trainer but in mule form.

As spotted on Hype Beast the Spanish fashion house is reintroducing one of their most popular silhouettes. This week they unveiled the 2023 version of the Balenciaga Speed Trainer but this time we do not get a heel back. Yes you read that correctly, this time the sneaker comes as a mule.

Titled the Speed Mule, this version ditches the signature sock collar for a bare back that exposes the ankle and more. It features a 92% polyester / 8% elastane recycled knit blend, ultra-flexible molded sole, ergonomic sole with “No Memory” technology, a contrasted logo printed on exterior, and an embossed logo on the back of the sole
The Balenciaga Speed Mule Trainer is priced at a cool $750.00. You can shop the sneaker here.

Rihanna season continues. The expecting mother has announced that her PUMA x Fenty collaboration is coming back, and the culture is here for it.

As spotted on Hypebeast, the “Lift Me Up” songstress is back with the apparel company. On Wednesday, March 1, the brand took to social media to make the big reveal. The visual is a teaser that simply reads “She’s back,” with both the PUMA and Fenty logos placed below the copy. The caption on the post stated “Coming soon.” This marks the second time both entities have come to the table. Back in 2014 Rihanna signed on as PUMA’s Global Ambassador for women’s training and served as PUMA’s Women’s Creative Director.

At the time of the original, deal RiRi expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity. “It’s great to find a brand that celebrates strength and individuality. I couldn’t think of a more perfect partner to collaborate with as a creative director. I’m excited for you to see what PUMA and I come up with” she said. Two years later, she aligned her Fenty label with PUMA and released her very popular Fenty PUMA Creeper sneaker.

At this time there is no set date for the release of the forthcoming PUMA x Fenty collection.

Nike continues to fiercely protect their trademark. The Swoosh is suing Lululemon for infringement for a second time.

As spotted on Hypebeast the Beaverton, Oregon-based brand believes the Athleisure imprint has repurposed their signature Flyknit technology for their own sneaker releases. The shoes in question include the Blissfeel, Strongfeel, Chargefeel Low and Chargefeel Low. According to Lulu’s website the Blissfeel, a runner exclusively for women, boasts that their “Comfort-focused upper moves like a supportive extension of your foot.” Nike claims its three patents at issue concern textile and other elements, including one addressing how the footwear will perform when force is applied; specifically “fabric that fits like a sock”.

A representative from Lululemon says “Nike’s claims are unjustified, and we look forward to proving our case in court” in a statement to Business Insider.

This is not the first time Nike has taken umbrage with Lulu. Back in January of 2022 they sued Lulu over their newly acquired Mirror Home Gym claiming they infringed on six Nike patents including determining a user’s exertion through sensory data and Mirror’s “Face Off” feature which allows users to compete against each other in workouts. Lululemon purchased Mirror Home Gym back in July 2020 for an estimated $435 million dollars. Recently Nike filed legal complaints against BAPE whose signature BAPESTA sneaker is a clone of the iconic Air Force 1.

Collaborations are common in the sneaker culture but Nissan and New Balance have taken it to a new level with a sneaker-themed car.

Source: Nissan / Nissan

As spotted on Hypebeast, the two brands have come together in a groundbreaking manner. This week the Japanese automobile manufacturer unveiled the Nissan Kicks “327 Edition,” a crossover inspired by the New Balance 327. The result is a car that looks like a shoe on wheels. Literally.

Present are the sneaker’s signature details including the textile stitching, suede material throughout the front and back bumper, a wrap to mimic the ’70s nylon retro aesthetic and the rear grille acts as the black rubber toe box. Additionally, we get the New Balance logo on the right side and massive “Nissan Kicks 327 Edition” branding on the left side.
Sadly, the project will not be released to the general market as your typical car launch. Instead the Nissan Kicks “327 Edition” will live as an exhibit at Aeon Mall in Tokyo; a Ginza landmark for over 50 years. Along with the opportunity to view it in person, there is a social sharing component with the campaign that incentives consumers to tweet photos of the crossover for a chance to win a pair of New Balance 327 sneakers.
Stay tuned to the official Nissan Instagram account for more details.
