“Duane inspired a generation of guitarists the world over with his unmistakeable signature ‘Twang’ sound,” a rep for Eddy told Variety. “He was the first rock and roll guitar god, a truly humble and incredible human being. He will be sorely missed.”

Born in April 26, 1938, in Corning, N.Y., Eddy began playing guitar as a young child. He went on to become one of few artists in the past century to find national fame purely as an instrumentalist, notching 27 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 such as “Rebel-‘Rouser,” which debuted at No. 6 in 1958; “Forty Miles of Bad Road,” which peaked at No. 9 in 1959; and “Because They’re Young,” which bowed at No. 4 in 1960. He also had two albums chart on the Billboard 200: Twangin’ Up a Storm!, which reached No. 93 in 1963, and Lonely Guitar, which made it to No. 144 in 1964.

He was the last surviving artist to chart in the top 10 of the inaugural Hot 100, which was published on Aug. 4, 1958.

Eddy was also a Grammy-decorated musician, winning his first-ever nomination in 1987 for “Peter Gunn” in the best rock instrumental performance category. In 1996, he earned a second Recording Academy nod for “Thunder Road/Sugarfoot Rag” for best country instrumental performance. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

Linkin Park Considering 2025 Reunion Tour With New Vocalist

Three members of Linkin Park are mulling a possible 2025 reunion tour and are considering hiring a female vocalist to succeed late lead singer Chester Bennington, several sources close to the band tell Billboard.

Booking agency WME is taking offers for a potential Linkin Park tour along with headlining festival dates featuring Mike Shinoda, Brad Delson and Dave Farrell, the sources say. The band has not indicated who will sing on behalf of Bennington, who was often praised as one of the most gifted and durable vocalists of the 2000s with a dynamic range tailor-made for the group’s genre-bending style.

One source tells Billboard the band is hoping to find a female vocalist to front the reunited band, matching rumors that have been making the rounds in recent weeks. On March 30, during an appearance on Wired in the Empire on KCAL 96.7, Orgy’s Jay Gordon said he had heard rumors about a Linkin Park reunion.

Trending on Billboard

“Very, very cool guys and obviously a great band,” he said. “They’ve been around a long time and they’re still going for it,” he said. “It’s going to be tough without Chester, but we’ll see. I hear they got a girl singer now. That’s what I heard.”

Gordon later issued a statement saying his comments had been taken out of context, writing, “With regards to this linkin park singer thing. I know nothing about any of that.”

Earlier this month, Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee shot down rumors that she might be a candidate for the lead vocal gig. On April 23, the singer told iHeartRadio Canada that, while some Linkin Park fans had been voicing hopes for her to join the band, the group had not contacted her for the gig.

“But that’s awesome,” she said. “They should ask me about that. I don’t have a ton of free time, but I might do it part-time.”

Shinoda was asked about a possible reunion around the April 14 release of Papercuts (Singles Collection: 2000-2023), telling Revolver magazine, “Rumors always go around. People always ask what’s next for the band, and the best answer I can ever give anybody is when there’s something to tell you, we will tell you. When there’s an announcement to be made, it will be on LinkinPark.com. If you’re hearing it from somebody else, you can trust that information as much as you want to trust it.”

Linkin Park is one of the most successful rock groups from the 2000s, having sold more than 29.4 million albums in the United States, according to Luminate. The band has charted 24 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, including three top 10 hits: “In the End” in 2003, “What I’ve Done” in 2007 and “New Divide” in 2009.

The band has also racked up 37.2 million U.S. song downloads and a combined 11.6 billion official on-demand U.S. streams. It has additionally charted six No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200, including One More Light, which debuted on May 17, 2017, two months before Bennington took his own life at his home in Southern California.

Billboard reached out to a representative for Linkin Park but did not receive a response.

The camera then pans to an amused Bunnie, who is laughing alongside MGK and tells the camera, “He did the quesadilla part!”

“When you dared your husband to do the ‘I wanna quesadilla’ part while onstage with Nickelback and he does it looking right at you,” Bunnie wrote on the clip, jokingly adding in the caption, “It was the only part he knew [laughing emoji] I lost it hahaha.”

The video is just one of a fun string of Bunnie TikToks recently, including one earlier this week in which she met Motionless in White’s frontman, Chris Motionless, whom she playfully called her “hall pass.” She captioned the slow motion montage of shaking the rocker’s hand with Celine Dion’s enduring love song, “Power of Love.”

“You could say we’re in love now,” she joked in the caption.

Willow Reflects on ‘Whip My Hair’ Legacy: ‘My Message Hasn’t Really Changed’

When “Meet Me At Our Spot” went viral a few years ago and eventually peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard Hot 100, Willow collected hordes of new fans. While audience expansion is always welcome, the 23-year-old singer-songwriter first made her Hot 100 debut nearly 15 years ago with “Whip My Hair,” and now, she’s reminiscing on that time with Billboard News ahead of her forthcoming Empathogen album.

“There were a lot of fun things about it,” she muses. “When I was a teenager, I was very like, ‘Uh, no, trauma … there were things that hurt me and things I don’t understand!’ And now, I’m like … obviously, there were things that hurt you and things that you don’t understand, but, overall, my message hasn’t really changed!”

The kid-geared, self-empowerment anthem marked the musical debut of Willow, who was just 10 years old at the time. Co-written by Ronald Jackson and Janae Ratliff and co-produced by Tim Carter and Jukebox & Obanga, “Whip My Hair” played on 2010s party rap, with Willow employing a rap-sung cadence over a mixture of heavy synths and drums. The song reached No. 11 on the Hot 100, becoming the highest charting hit of Willow’s career yet on Billboard’s marquee singles chart. “Whip My Hair” also landed on the Year-End Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs ranking for two consecutive years: 2010 (No. 84) and 2011 (No. 76).

“‘Whip My Hair’ is like, ‘be yourself, live out loud, don’t care what anybody thinks, express yourself!’” Willow explains to Billboard News. “That hasn’t really changed. I really feel like ‘Whip My Hair’ is just a foundation for everything that has come later … It was a lot of fun. I am so grateful — I would never take it back.”

Since “Whip My Hair” lit up the charts, Willow has released five solo studio albums and a collaborative LP with Tyler Cole titled The Anxiety. 2021’s Lately I Feel Everything is her only solo album to hit the Billboard 200 (No. 46), buoyed, in large part, by the success of its Travis Barker-assisted lead single, “Transparent Soul.” Later that year, The Anxiety became the second Billboard 200 entry of Willow’s career, climbing all the way to No. 103 and spending 11 weeks on the chart, her longest running title yet.

With a catalog that ranges from ambient alternative music to hair-raising punk-pop and soulful rock n’ roll, it’s no surprise that Willow continued down the musical path she forged with “Whip My Hair” nearly 15 years ago.

“I’ve tried to run away from it. I’ve tried to be like, ‘No! I’m not a musician, I’m gonna do something else,’ and then, guess what? It just keeps coming back!” she says. “That’s how you know something is really important to you. If it causes you pain and discomfort and you’re still wanting to do it? I trust that inner drive. Even through the discomfort, you’re like, ‘I gotta stick with this.’”

As part of one of the last generations of child stars to rise to fame without TikTok, Willow jokes that “it would probably be lit” if she were 10 years old and releasing “Whip My Hair” today. “I can’t even really imagine it … thinking about it actually kind of interesting!”

Empathogen, the sixth studio album from Willow, hits DSPs on Friday, May 3.

Drew Carey Said Phish’s Sphere Show Made Him Want to Puree His Junk, So, Naturally, They Sent Him a Special Gift

As you’ve likely heard by now, Drew Carey had a really, really great time seeing Phish for the first time at their Las Vegas residency at Sphere earlier this month. Like, such a good time the The Price Is Right host wrote in a frenzied post afterward that he would “stick my d–k in a blender” in exchange for more time with the jam band juggernaut.

On Friday, Carey showed off a special gift he got from the band in honor of his phreak out: a Vitamix blender accompanied by a hand-written note from the Burlington, VT superstars. “Hi Drew! So thrilled that you could be at the Sphere with us!,” it read. “Hope you enjoy this gift and lets do it again. Sending mountains of love.” Singer/guitarist Trey Anastasio also personalized the mixer, scrawling, “Thank you Drew! See you next time, happy blending!” in silver marker on the side.

The gag gift from the band who’ve busted out vacuum cleaner solos and mini trampolines on stage in the past seemed appropriate for the garage rock-loving comedian who tweeted out his mind-bent reaction to his first Phishsperience. “I swear I just talked to God,” Carey tweeted on April 22 after checking out of the band’s four shows at Vegas’ hottest new venue. “I would give you all my money, stick my d–k in a blender and swear off p–sy for the rest of my life in exchange for this. Bro I met God tonight for real. I feel like I just got saved by Jesus no lie.”

Pearl Jam’s ‘Dark Matter’ Debuts in Top Five on Billboard 200 Chart

Pearl Jam debuts at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 chart (dated May 4) with its latest studio album, Dark Matter, marking the 13th top 10-charting effort for the band. The set launches with a little over 59,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending April 25, according to Luminate.

Also in the top 10 of the new Billboard 200, as earlier reported, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department makes a milestone debut atop the list, with 2.61 million equivalent album units earned in its first week.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. The new May 4, 2024-dated chart will be posted in full on Billboard‘s website on April 30. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram.

Trending on Billboard

Of Dark Matter’s first-week sum of 59,000 units, album sales comprise 52,000, SEA units comprise 7,000 (equaling 9.33 million on-demand official streams of the set’s 11 songs) and TEA units comprise a negligible sum. Notably, of its 52,000 sales sum, vinyl sales comprise a little over 24,000, enhanced by its availability across 12 different color vinyl variants.

The new album was led by the set’s title track, which hit No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart in March (the group’s fourth No. 1 and first since 1998) and has reached the top 10 on Alternative Airplay (the act’s 20th top 10 hit).

At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, Future and Metro Boomin’s former leader We Don’t Trust You rises one spot with 69,000 equivalent album units earned (down 17%). Beyoncé’s chart-topping Cowboy Carter slips 2-3 with 66,000 (down 33%), and Morgan Wallen’s former No. 1 One Thing at a Time is a non-mover at No. 4 with 64,000 (down 11%).

Future and Metro Boomin’s We Still Don’t Trust You falls 1-6 with 54,000 equivalent album units earned (down 57%), Noah Kahan’s Stick Season slips 5-7 with 45,000 units (down 11%) and Benson Boone’s Fireworks & Rollerblades glides 7-8 with 40,000 units (down 8%). Rounding out the top 10 is a pair of former No. 1s: SZA’s SOS dips 8-9 with 39,000 units (down 2%) and Swift’s Lover climbs 11-10 with 37,000 (down 6%).
