Popeyes and Don Julio Tequila had many on Black Xitter wondering what exactly the new collaboration between the brands was all about. We can safely share those details, with Popeyes and Don Julio breaking out their new collaborative Championship Lineup menu that pays homage to the chicken chain’s hometown of New Orleans and more.
Via a teaser clip, the collaboration between the brands raised eyebrows among certain folks on the X social media platform but some assumed that it was connected somehow to the upcoming Super Bowl LIX event, which is taking place in New Orleans. Today, the brands shared with their fans what the deal is and it’s got our interest for sure.

Popeyes, which bills itself as the “Official Wing of Watching Football,” and Don Julio, billed as the “Official Tequila of the Big Game” are joining forces for the Championship Lineup menu. What does that consist of?
At the top of the list is the Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado Flavored Concha Chicken Sandwich, featuring a chicken breast filet marinated in reposado (lightly aged or “rested”) tequila coated in buttermilk breading and topped with a tequila lime slaw, spicy spread, a barrel cured pickle between a buttered concha roll. Concha is a type of Mexican pastry for those uninitiated.
Also in the lineup offerings are the Popeyes x Tequila Don Julio Reposado Flavored Louisiana Garlic 3-Piece Wings, and a Spicy Strawberry Hibiscus Flavored Lemonade Mocktail served up in a cup that should be familiar to those who have had a night or two on Bourbon Street.
On Jan. 31, select Popeyes in five cities will preview the menu. All customers over the age of 21 will have access to try out the aforementioned items ahead of the menu popping up all across New Orleans for Super Bowl weekend.
This is a one-day event while supplies last and we’ll share the locations below. Further, this menu will be available at the chain’s flagship restaurant on Canal Street in New Orleans from Jan. 31 through Feb. 9.

Popeyes, the fried chicken fast food chain, and Don Julio, one of the top tequila brands in the world, aren’t exactly in the same wheelhouse on several fronts but it appears things are changing. Don Julio and Popeyes look to be hinting at an upcoming collaboration and those who make up Black Xitter on the X platform had some thoughts.

Last Thursday, Popeyes posted a video on its Instagram account that teases the Don Julio collaboration featuring a vibrant party scene and a woman DJ decked out in gear adorned with the chain’s namesake along with some fancy Black boxes featuring the tequila brand’s name as well.
The caption for the video read, “The kitchen is heating up for the big game. Party starts 1.31.25,” which we assume is meant to illustrate that the Super Bowl contest between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs is happening soon on Feb. 9.
While we’ll have to wait until the end of the month to find out what exactly Popeyes and Don Julio are up to, fans on X, formerly Twitter, are chiming in with a wild variety of theories. Naturally, with the drop happening on the eve of Black History Month,  some eyebrows were raised.
Will it be a new tequila-based glaze? Will there be Mexican-themed spices in a new drop? Is it a fashion collaboration considering the DJ’s outfit in the clip? It’s all over the place.
Check out the teaser clip below.

It’s been years since the popularity of Popeye’s signature Chicken Sandwich led to all kinds of hype and violence out in these streets and though things have calmed down since then, some people still don’t know how to act when stepping into the fried chicken establishment.

According to USA Today, a Popeyes employee fought off and stabbed an unruly customer after they got into a dispute over said customers order and it had nothing to do with the infamous Chicken Sandwich. The incident took place a little after 11:00 p.m. at a Popeyes restaurant in Philadelphia where police say a 28-year-old man was stabbed after he began attacking one of the employees at the fast food chain over his order. Unfortunately for the aggressor turned victim, he messed around and found out.
USA Today reports:

According to the report, several Popeyes employees were present and attempted to help their coworker during the confrontation, which was captured on security video obtained by police.
“Other employees intervened and tried to push this 28-year-old back out from the front door,” Small said to the news station. “That’s when the 34-year-old employee getting assaulted and attacked pulled a knife and stabbed the 28-year-old.”
The man was struck in the torso and head, per the official. He fled the scene, but officers found him due to a blood trail that led them to a residence in the area, NBC Philadelphia reported. It’s unclear if he is facing any charges at this time.
Unless there was a deep fried rat in his three-piece meal, we don’t see any reason to attack a fast food worker on their turf. Imagine that man would’ve brought that nonsense to Beanie Sigel’s food truck Grab & Roll, Wings & Bowls? We would’ve been writing about his obituary. Just sayin.’
Police Chief Inspector Scott Small says that they’re still investigating the cause of the fight but added that the 34-year-old employee was indeed acting out of self-defense.
That man got the Popeyes Hawaii juice now.
