Jennifer Lawrence was on an epic box office and awards run… until 2016. That’s when she pulled down a major payday and earned top-billing in the box office sci-fi dud Passengers, one of the last big-budget blockbusters she starred in before taking a break from the spotlight and slowing her pace for a few years.
According to a new New York Times profile of the Oscar-winning actress posted on Wednesday (Nov. 2), she might have avoided that ding in her resume if she’d just listened to her pal Adele.

“Adele told me not to do it! She was like, ‘I feel like space movies are the new vampire movies.’ I should have listened to her,” Lawrence said of the movie about two astronauts on a giant spaceship who are accidentally woken up 90 years early from hibernation that grossed more than $300 million globally but drew so-so reviews.

The piece opens at the Greenwich Village, New York gay bar Pieces, where we’re told Lawrence tackled the “Easy On Me” singer to the ground in March 2019 after she lost a heated game of musical shots. The original plan was for JLaw to meet Adele at a concert, but since Lawrence was already at Pieces, she suggested the singer meet her there instead. Though both women are careful about their public exposure while out on the town and frequently disappear for months, or years, at a time when not on-cycle, they decided Pieces was a fine place to let loose.

And, according to the article, they did just that, with Adele competing in an onstage drinking game that prompted the very competitive Lawrence to yell, “How could you lose?,” before the aforementioned public takedown. They even indulged in a bit of karaoke, which is a gutsy move when your partner is a Grammy-winning global superstar whose album releases are massive cultural events. Lawrence, however, is a frequent presence at Adele’s concerts, including a cameo at last year’s star-studded “Adele: One Night Only” special.

Lawrence, 32, will return to screens this weekend with the Apple TV+ drama Causeway. Speaking to the Times, she dove into the period in her mid-20s after her run as the star of the Hunger Games franchise when suddenly her movies were not clicking with audiences as much and she could feel like they were losing interest. “I was like, ‘Oh no, you guys are here because I’m here, and I’m here because you’re here. Wait, who decided that this was a good movie?’,” she said.

As she enters a period of higher exposure following the Feb. 2022 birth of her first child with husband Cooke Maroney, Lawrence told the Times her carefree night out with bestie Adele was proof that she’s moved on from being afraid of the tween Hunger Games fans who got too in her head for a while.

“I can tell things are different by my interactions in the real world, just by the way that I can move about life,” she told the paper. “There’s an occasional article about me walking out in Ugg boots, but other than that, the interest has lessened, God bless it.”

Maroon 5 has “one more” accomplishment to add to its list of accolades. On Wednesday (Nov. 2), YouTube announced that the pop rock band’s video for “One More Night” has entered the Billion Views Club.

The video sees lead singer Adam Levine split between two scenes — one of him training at a boxing facility that later leads to him facing against an opponent for a match, and another of him juggling family life with a partner and their young baby girl. After emerging triumphant, Levine comes home to find his home empty save for a few family photos and a trophy — his partner and daughter nowhere to be found.

According to YouTube, “One More Night” is the band’s third video to reach the billion views mark. “Sugar” and “Girls Like You” are the other two visuals.

Maroon 5, in a collaborative Instagram post with Universal Music Enterprises, shared its excitement at the new milestone. “One More Night” hit 1 BILLION views on YouTube in ten years!! Third @maroon5 track to reach this milestone, we can’t believe it,” both accounts captioned a behind-the-scenes video from “One More Night” of Levine in hair and makeup.

In addition to being Maroon 5’s third video to hit one billion views, “One More Night” was also the band’s third No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 after singles “Makes Me Wonder” (2007) and “Moves Like Jagger” featuring Christina Aguilera (2011). “One More Night” spent a total of 42 weeks on the Hot 100, with nine of those weeks in the No. 1 spot.

The old Taylor can’t come to the phone right now — why? ‘Cause she’s busy starring in a Capitol One commercial. In a super nostalgic advertisement for the bank holding company’s Venture X credit card released late Monday (Nov. 1), Taylor Swift starred as a dozen versions of her past selves by recreating her most iconic looks from past album cycles, spanning 2006 to 2022.

In one scene, a Taylor sporting one of the sparkly outfits she wore back in 2015 — during the 1989 World Tour — tests out some headphones. “They’re noise cancelling!” she shouts, dancing to a beat only she can hear.

“You’re being too loud,” responds a second Taylor, referencing a lyric from Swift’s 2019 Lover track “You Need to Calm Down.”

The second Taylor — dressed in a purple dress and ponytail, one of Swift’s Speak Now Tour looks from 2011 — appears again in a later scene, in which she watches a Capitol One customer using his phone to book seat 13A on Flight 1989.

“Good choice!” says Speak Now Taylor, pointing at a number 13 painted on her hand. “My lucky number.”

All the Taylors are then shown crammed together in an elevator. “Going up?” asks one Taylor, dressed in the glitzy circus ringleader outfit she sported in 2013 on the Red Tour.

A Taylor wearing a unitard look from the “Look What You Made Me Do” music video, a Taylor wearing one of her famous Folklore cardigans, and a curly-haired Taylor from her debut self-titled album cycle proceed to join all the other Taylors on the elevator in an epic group selfie.

The commercial comes on the heels of Swift’s announcement that she’s going on tour next year, following a five-year break from live performances. Presented by Capitol One, the Eras Tour will see the 11-time Grammy winner stopping by stadiums in cities across the U.S. (international dates have not yet been announced) with guests artists including Paramore, Phoebe Bridgers, Beabadoobee, HAIM and more.

Heads up, Swifties. It looks like Taylor Swift is taking requests. Shortly after the 32-year-old pop star announced her 2023 The Eras Tour, a fan took to TikTok to ask that “Delicate,” a single off Reputation, be included on the setlist — and Swift obliged.
In the Tuesday (Nov. 1) TikTok, a Swiftie named Alex filmed herself singing along to an audio clip from 2018 of the “Anti-Hero” singer performing “Delicate” on her Reputation Tour. People who were in the crowd during that night’s performance can be heard chanting “1, 2, 3, let’s go b—h!” in unison to the beat of the song, filling the empty beats in between the intro and first verse.

It’s a tradition that started among Swift’s fanbase after a video of one fan doing the chant at one of the Reputation Tour’s early shows went viral. Even Camila Cabello, who was one of the opening acts on the tour, posted a video of herself recreating the original.

“Petition to bring this back for eras tour,” Alex wrote atop her TikTok.

In just one day, the TikTok reached about a million viewers — one of whom was none other than the woman in charge herself. “Done,” Swift commented on the video, confirming that fans will once again have a chance to cheer along to her 2017 track when The Eras Tour’s U.S. leg kicks off in March.

The Eras Tour was announced by the 11-time Grammy winner during her appearance on Good Morning America Monday morning, the same day that Alex posted her TikTok. The 27-date expedition will find Swift passing through stadiums across the country with Paramore, Phoebe Bridgers, HAIM, Beabadoobee and more serving as her opening acts.

First released in 2017 on Swift’s sixth studio album Reputation, “Delicate” was given the single treatment the following year. The singer-songwriter made a contemporary dance-filled music video for the track with director Joseph Kahn, and it went on to peak at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

A lot of times, artists like to leave the meaning of their creations up to interpretation, but on occasion, they opt to make it more obvious. And nothing says “This is who my song is about” like casting someone who looks just like that person to star alongside you in a music video.

That’s what pop stars such as The Weeknd, Halsey, Selena Gomez and many, many more have all attempted in past music videos. Whether it’s to seemingly shade an ex (see: Justin Timberlake‘s “Cry Me a River” Britney Spears stand-in) or send a message to the one who got away (looking at you, Joshua Bassett and your “Doppelgänger” Olivia Rodrigo carbon copy), artists have been quite creative when it comes to using lookalikes to spice up their visual projects.

Not all music video lookalikes, however, have anything to do with an artist’s past romances — and not all music video lookalikes go over well. Kanye West, for example, faced quite a bit of backlash after he featured nude artificial figures of several well-known celebrities in his “Famous” music video, while DaBaby took some heat for using a Megan Thee Stallion-esque actress in a video for his track “Boogeyman,” on which he brags about having allegedly slept with the “WAP” rapper.

But whether a video elicits a positive or negative reaction from viewers, those with celebrity lookalikes almost always have one thing in common: They get people talking. Keep reading to see which pop stars have included doppelgängers of famous friends or foes in their music videos below.

If you caught a glimpse of Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell’s promo clip for their upcoming holiday movie musical Spirited on Monday (Nov. 1) and something seemed a bit off with their voices there’s a very good reason. “I’m excited for you to see our movie musical, Spirited,” Reynolds says in a halting, foreign-sounding voice as he lounges by a roaring fire with his co-star.

“Now, we want to dispel the rumors that we didn’t do all the singing ourselves. This is 100% pure Ryan and Will here,” Ferrell explains for the doubters out there who wonder how two comedic geniuses not known for their vocal abilities were tapped to topline the Apple TV+ original film that turns the beloved Charles Dickens holiday tale A Christmas Carol on its head.

Reynolds asks for a brief break just a few second in, during which he hops on his walkie talkie to speak with someone in the recording studio. “Get your act together, your lip synching is for s–t,” the Deadpool star berates the heavily accented voice-over artist who is clearly doing all the talking for the two actors. The camera then cuts to none other than Milli Vanilli singer Fabrice Morvan, who, along with late partner Rob Pilatus is best known for the lip synching scandal that resulted in the duo being forced to return their best new artist Grammy in 1990 after it was revealed that they didn’t sing in concert or on their hit records.

“Sorry Ryan, it’s been a long time since I’ve done this,” Morvan sighs. The full trailer for the film that also stars Octavia Spencer dropped on Wednesday morning (Nov. 2); Spirited hits theaters on Nov. 11 and premieres on Apple TV+ on Nov. 18. In the re-imagining, Reynolds plays Clint Briggs, who turns the tables on the Ghost of Christmas Present (Ferrell) in a remix of the Dickens tale of hope and regret that, for the first time, tells the story from the three ghosts’ perspective.

Spirited was directed by Sean Anders (Daddy’s Home) and features original songs by Oscar-winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (La La Land).

P!nk has found a creative way to get the word out about her upcoming single, “Never Gonna Not Dance Again.” In a brief promo video that dropped on Wednesday morning (Nov. 2), the singer slips into a red apron — over a sparkly pink tank top and fat gold chain — to hawk her latest brand extension.
“Excuse me, would you like to try a free sample? They’re spicy as f–k!,” she says while snapping gum and manning the sample station for her mouth-singeing line of crunchy snacks in the produce aisle. No, she hasn’t fallen on hard times. The funny promo bit is part of the set-up for “Never Gonna Not Dance Again,” which was produced by Grammy-winners Max Martin and Shellback, who co-wrote the song with P!nk. The track is described in a release as “a euphoric and joyful ode to dancing through the hard times.” The upcoming video, also due out on Friday (Nov. 4), was co-directed by the singer and creative duo Nick & RJ.

To keep the spicy bit going, the caption to the clip reads, “Spicy AF! Have you called for your chance to win a free sample?! Dial 1-888-262-PINK #NGNDA is out this Friday.”

And what happens when you call that toll-free line? Well, you hear P!nk say, “Hi, you’re reached P!nk, the creator of Vicious B—-es Chips’es,” after which she offers three options. Press one and you can hear a sneak preview of the single, which, as promised, is a bouncy, life-affirming bop in which she sings, “Never gonna not dance again/ I’m never gonna not dance again/ Oh, I just want to pop and lock to my records/ There go all of my clothes/ Never gonna not dance again.”

The second option gets you a text message with a link to get more updates on the song, while the third option takes you to her tip of the day: “If you’re around someone who sucks all the air out of the room, go to another room.”

“Never Gonna” is the follow-up to July’s more topical “Irrelevant,” in which she took on just about every major issue in American politics today. “Girls just wanna have rights / So, why do we have to fight,” she questions in the song’s bridge in her response to the then-recent Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. The singer will perform at the upcoming American Music Awards on Nov. 20, where she will appear alongside Carrie Underwood, Imagine Dragons, JID, Tems, Wizkid and Yola.

Adele took a moment time during a recent Q&A with fans celebrating her luxurious “I Drink Wine” video to praise one questioner who did something hardly anyone has done during the singer’s entire career: pronounce her name right. After screening the visual for a packed house, the star generously took questions for nearly an hour, including one that included the nomenclature revelation.

When Annie from London beamed in for a long-distance video question — with a full glass of rosé in hand, naturally — she had a thoughtful question about whether the singer’s perspective on her journey to self love during the recording of her 25 album changed while writing 30. “Cheers babe, luv ya!” Annie said sparklingly.

“Where’s she from, Enfield or something? Love that,” Adele asked during the “Happy Hour With Adele” chat. “She said my name perfectly,” the singer added with a smile, noting that she’d had a discussion with chat’s host earlier about how her name should be pronounced. “He came and asked me how I say my name and I said ‘Uh-del.’” So, for the record, if you’ve been saying “Ah-del” this whole time, well, you’ve been doing it wrong.

As far as anyone could tell, Adele — who is from Enfield, which is north of London — hadn’t ever given us the correct pronunciation before, so going forward we have no excuse to get it wrong. The chat was the same one in which the 34-year-old singer revealed that once she’s done with her Las Vegas residency she would love to take a break from music to work on an English degree.

“If I hadn’t made it in my singing, I think I would definitely be a teacher. I think I’d be an English Lit teacher,” she said, noting that her plan is to finish her studies online.

All I want for Christmas is a Mariah Holiday Apron. And a Naughty and Nice Adult Onesie. And maybe a Merry Christmas Red Ornament.
Mariah Carey fans have their wishlists sorted, now that the Queen of Christmas has unwrapped her new holiday merch collection.

Just hours after Carey reminded us that, yes, Christmas is coming, the pop superstar ushered in her latest range of presents.

Prices for her exclusive apparel, accessories, music and more are priced from $15 – $140 and are available at MariahCareyShop.com.

Carey is the undisputed Queen of Christmas, with her 1994 holiday original topping the Billboard Hot 100 for eight non-consecutive weeks and ranking as the most popular song of all time on the Billboard Holiday 100.

On the other side of the Atlantic, the evergreen hit briefly held the U.K. record for the longest journey to No. 1, when it hit the summit in December 2020 — 26 years after its release.

In Australia, where Christmastime is a summer sweat-fest, “All I Want for Christmas Is You” took 24 years to reach No. 1, finally doing so in December 2018.

Meanwhile, Mimi is prepping for four holiday concerts in New York City and Toronto in the wake of releasing her new children’s book, The Christmas Princess.

“I’m trying to make [these shows] as magical as possible,” she said of the series of “Merry Christmas to All!” concerts at Madison Square Garden and Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena in mid-December. “Oftentimes as a child, or even throughout earlier parts of my career, I did not feel loved. I certainly never felt unconditional love, and that’s what I have with my fans: that connection. So I’m extremely excited.”

She got one gift early when, on Tuesday, a songwriter who sued her over accusations that she stole “All I Want for Christmas is You” from his earlier song has dropped his lawsuit — for now.

Taylor Swift set a historic record on the Hot 100 this week (chart dated Nov. 5) by dominating all ten slots of the top 10, and fellow artists like Halsey, Ryan Tedder and Zara Larsson have all been celebrating her record-breaking accomplishment.

“That’s a first,” the OneRepublic frontman wrote on his Instagram Story above the Billboard chart filled with Swift’s Midnights songs while Larsson wrote, “This is insaaaaane” with a fire emoji.

Meanwhile, Halsey wrote “And that’s how ya do it @taylorswift long live taykarma” of her pal, who enlisted her to help perform “Shake It Off” at the 2019 American Music Awards alongside former Reputation Stadium Tour opener Camila Cabello.

First single “Anti-Hero” is now Swift’s eighth career No. 1 hit while instant fan favorites like “Lavender Haze,” “Midnight Rain” and “Question…?” helped round out the Top 10 along with “Maroon,” “Bejeweled” and the Lana Del Rey-assisted “Snow on the Beach.”

Earlier on Tuesday (Nov. 1), Taylor announced the U.S. dates for The Eras Tour, her upcoming stadium jaunt where Swifties will finally be able to hear the songs they love from Lover, Folklore, Evermore, Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version) and Midnights live for the first time. (Ahead of the mad dash for tickets, check out Billboard’s dream setlist for the shows here.)

Meanwhile, Tay’s former tourmate and “That’s When” collaborator Keith Urban also commented on her tenth album, raving, “It’s just beautiful. Absolutely love it, top to bottom. I think it’s one of her best albums ever.”
