It is still unclear what caused Lisa Marie Presley‘s death. The 54-year-old former pop singer — and only child of rock legend Elvis Presley — died last Thursday (Jan. 12) after being hospitalized earlier in the day following a report of a woman in full cardiac arrest at an address associated with Presley.

At the time, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said paramedics performed CPR and “determined the patient had signs of life” before rushing her to the hospital. To date, no details about a cause of death or any possible precipitating incidents or health issues have been revealed, and according to CNN, that information might take some time.
“Presley was examined on Jan. 14 and the cause of death was deferred,” Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson with the LA County Dept. of Medical Examiner-Coroner, told CNN. “Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies. Once the tests/studies come back, the doctor evaluates the case again and makes the cause of death determination.”
Presley, 54, attended the Golden Globes just two days before her passing, on hand to celebrate Austin Butler’s award for playing her father in Elvis. She called his performance “mind-blowing” during a red carpet interview with Entertainment Tonight. “I really didn’t know what to do with myself after I saw it,” she told ET of Baz Luhrmann’s movie. “I had to take, like, five days to process it because it was so incredible and so spot on and just so authentic that, yeah, I can’t even describe what it meant.”
Just days before that, she was in Memphis, Tennessee, at Graceland — the mansion where Elvis lived — to celebrate the 88th anniversary of her father’s birth on Jan. 8. A public memorial for Presley is planned on the front lawn at Graceland on Jan. 22. The general public is invited to attend, with details about the service available here.
Presley will be buried at Graceland next to her son, Benjamin Keough, who died in 2020. Elvis and other members of the Presley family are also buried at Graceland.
Everything’s coming up Gomez in 2023. We know this because on Tuesday night (Jan 17), Selena Gomez teased two huge pieces of news in a single Instagram post. In a black and white snap from the now-filming third season of the Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, Sel chilled with a huge smile on her face as she shared the couch with her co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short, as well as two fresh members of the team, second season finale guest Paul Rudd and a Building‘s brand newbie: Oscar icon Meryl Streep.

“Very, very grateful lady! @onlymurdershulu @hulu @johnnyhoffman5 thank you for making this wanna be an unbelievably, absurdly happy human,” Gomez captioned the snap.
But it was a response she gave to a comment on the pic that really got Gomez Nation hyped. When a fan asked the very pertinent question, “Where is the album,” Gomez responded with some very exciting news: “Oh, it’s coming,” she wrote.
Gomez’s most recent album, Rare, was released in 2020 and featured “Look at Her Now” and “Lose You to Love Me.” At press time there was no additional information on the album or its release date.
Back to Streep, though. While it’s not yet known what role the triple-Oscar winner will play on the show, it will mark her return to the small screen after starring in season two of HBO’s Big Little Lies in 2019; the upcoming season will also feature former Grey’s Anatomy star Jesse Williams.
In another post, Gomez shared some video from set, in which she asked her castmates what was going on and after asking, “could this honestly get any better?,” the camera then pans over to reveal Rudd, who answers, “I do think it could get a little bit better.” Right on cue, Streep pops up from behind a couch to say hello and ask the stars if they need any tea or cozy back pillows.
Check out the on-set snap and Gomez’s album news (in a response to user @abdulitotv):

Well, for one, she’s promising an all-hits setlist – which for Madonna takes some narrowing down, given her 38 Billboard Hot 100 top 10s and 50 Dance Club Songs No. 1s. And while she’s played a lot of her hits in concert before, as far as we know, this is the first time she’s not touring around a new album — so she truly only has her back catalog to choose from.
On the new Billboard Pop Shop Podcast, Katie peppers Madonna superfan Keith with questions about the buzzy new global tour — like what lesser-known nuggets are fans dying to hear? And why now for this retrospective tour? Listen to the latest episode now:
Also on the show, we’ve got chart news on how SZA’s SOS is unstoppable at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, notching a fifth straight week atop the tally, while Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero” captures an eighth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart, making it the Swift song with the most weeks at No. 1. Plus, Zach Bryan’s slow-burn hit single “Something in the Orange” reaches the Hot 100’s top 10 more than eight months after its release.

Women supporting women! SZA used her Instagram Stories on Tuesday (Jan. 17) to celebrate Taylor Swift‘s record-extending run at No. 1 with “Anti-Hero.”
Earlier in the day, Swift had reacted to the news that her latest single was spending an eighth week at the top of the Hot 100 — and becoming her longest leading chart-topper in the process — by writing, “What on earth I love you guys…PS – been listening to SZA’s album nonstop. Absolutely adore her music. So much love and respect for her!!!”
Seeing the thoughtful shout-out, the R&B singer reposted the message with a note of her own. “Congratulations to tay tay!” she wrote. “And thank you so much your album and writing is phenomenal ..as ALWAYS.”
The back-and-forth comes as SZA’s own “Kill Bill” has been giving Swift’s smash a run for its self-loathing money on the chart, settling in at No. 2 just behind the Midnights anthem. (Meanwhile, SZA’s long-awaited sophomore album SOS eked out its fifth consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, where Midnights sits at No. 2 on the chart dated Jan. 21.) as
SZA’s friendly response isn’t the first time she’s heaped praise on the pop star’s latest studio set, either. She shut down any narrative of competition between herself and her fellow superstar earlier this month, writing, “Uhh I feel silly that I even have to say this but i see supporters arguing and I hate that. I don’t have beef w ANYONE especially not Taylor lmao I genuinely loved her album and the writing!”
Check out SZA’s sweet note to Swift before it expires here.

Mimi Webb, “Red Flags”
The energetic “Red Flags” is the latest taste from pop singer Mimi Webb off her upcoming debut album, Amelia, out this March. Taking a page from Dua Lipa’s “New Rules,” here Webb cleverly counts the various stages of red flag sightings while dating — though when she makes them sound this good, it’s easy to understand why, as she says, “I keep runnin’ through these red flags.” – Lyndsey Havens
Hemlocke Springs, “Stranger Danger”
Known for her TikTok hit “Girlfriend,” the latest from alternative singer-songwriter Hemlocke Springs (the stage name of Isimeme Udu) is just as perfectly quirky and catchy. Built around a creeping beat to drive home the song’s title, “Stranger Danger” exists in the same universe as Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ Hot 100 hit “Unholy” … slightly eerie yet entirely enticing. – L.H.
Freya Ridings, “Weekends”
“Weekends” opens with Freya Ridings’ immediately recognizable tone as the English singer-songwriter declares: “I don’t really have friends, don’t go out on weekends.” But, like any good pop ballad, the sparse and somber lyrics are soon supported by glimmering, dancefloor-ready production. And yet, the sadness she sings of is still felt — making “Weekends” a perfect addition to any crying in the club mix. – L.H.
Blake Rose, “Use Me”
Emerging pop artist Blake Rose confidently instructs the subject of his latest song to “use me” — a dating faux pas that often happens but is rarely welcomed. The pop-rock song flips the script on self-empowerment anthems, as Rose decides for himself that being used by the person he desires is better than not being with them at all. — L.H.
Gracie Abrams, “Where Do We Go Now?”
Gracie Abrams carefully considers each lyric on new single “Where Do We Go Now?,” each word about an imperfect romance escaping her mouth with utmost caution before she throws her hands up and repeats the titular phrase on the chorus. With Aaron Dessner’s production delicately burning beneath her, Abrams demonstrates a magnetic restraint here — she’s just getting started, but her performance on “Where Do We Go Now?” is wise beyond her years. – Jason Lipshutz
Jessie Murph, “About You”
Accusations, rhetorical questions, pissed-off commands and threats of revenge — they’re all part of the toxic web that Jessie Murph weaves on “About You,” a pop song simmering with frustrations and flirting with hip-hop cadences. Murph flaunts her skill set while trying to escape a fractured reality, and although some of the shots hit harder than others, the singsong chorus lands with the correct blend of hooks and resignation. – J. Lipshutz
Vagabon, “Carpenter”
On her first piece of new music since Vagabon’s 2019 self-titled album, singer-songwriter Laetitia Tamko puts in a bid for the most hypnotic single of 2023’s first frame: “Carpenter” combines handclaps, slippery bass, polyrhythms and beckoning harmonies into a sumptuous mix that whizzes by in three minutes and change. And as Tamko sings about recognizing, then subsequently overcoming, personal hindrances, “Carpenter” suggests that the promising indie artist is prepared for a major 2023. – J. Lipshutz
Ber, “Your Internet Sucks”
Minnesota singer-songwriter Ber (no, it’s not a play on the state’s sub-zero temps — her name is Berit Dybing) continues to impress with her latest single, “Your Internet Sucks.” A charmingly petty diss track aimed at an ex in London (she studied music in the U.K.), “Sucks” soars thanks to an insistent, gentle rhythm, fuzzy guitar flourishes and delightfully mean-spirited lyrics (“If you’re drinking coffee, I hope that you burn your lips on the cup / And when you’re playing Fortnite, I hope that your Internet sucks”). – J. Lynch
Temples, “Gamma Rays”
English psych-rockers tease an upcoming fourth album with new single “Gamma Rays,” a muscular yet impish trip into outer space via the lens of A Saucerful of Secrets-era Floyd. Fittingly, it clocks it an 4:20, and seems ready-made for an outdoor festival. – J. Lynch
M83, “Oceans Niagara”
On latest single “Oceans Niagara,” M83 frontman Anthony Gonzalez goes back to his shoegaze and dream pop roots. A true return to form and the first official taste of the group’s forthcoming album Fantasy, the song dabbles in both live and synth-driven instrumentation, with Gonzalez’ voice uplifting the atmospheric – and heavily nostalgic – track. – Starr Bowenbank
Are Kelsea Ballerini and Outer Banks‘ Chase Stokes dating? Wouldn’t you like to know. The 29-year-old country pop star has addressed the romance rumors for the very first time in a recent TikTok, but don’t get too excited. Instead of confirming or denying, she simply expressed her dismay over her love life being the subject of attention on popular gossip page DeuxMoi.
In the Monday (Jan. 16) video, Ballerini speaks to her followers while showing them a screenshot of a discussion that took place on DeuxMoi’s Instagram account that same day. The person who anonymously runs DeuxMoi had posted on Instagram Stories a screenshot of a direct message they received from a follower, who mentioned both Ballerini and Stokes by name, and speculated on the likelihood of their relationship.
The sender of the message alleged that Ballerini is “too busy” repeatedly asking out a Soho House Nashville employee to actually be in a relationship with Stokes, calling their recent appearance at the college football national championship game in Inglewood, Calif., a few days prior a “PR play.”
“I know, I know. Stop reading, stop looking,” Ballerini says in her TikTok, gesturing to the screenshotted conversation. “But what is happening, guys? What?”
“Let’s not do this, you know?” she added, before blowing a defeated raspberry.
The “Peter Pan” singer then captioned the video, “i’m about to break up with the internet 5 sure.”
Fans have been curious about Ballerini and Stokes’ possible romantic link since the two were included in a group photo from the championship that Raising Canes founder Todd Graves shared on social media. Later, Stokes shared a carousel of photos that included a snap of him getting cozy with a blonde woman, whom he tagged as Ballerini, sitting next to him at the game.
See Kelsea Ballerini sort of address the Chase Stokes dating rumors in her new TikTok below:
Your move, Your Madgesty. Madonna played a star-studded game of truth or dare on Tuesday (Jan. 17) to tease her upcoming Celebration Tour.
In the video, the superstar faces off against Amy Schumer at a table surrounded by the likes of Lil Wayne, Jack Black, Meg Statler, Kate Berlant, Diplo and Eric André. “I just want to make sure you all know why you’re here. Amy Schumer, truth or dare?” Madonna asks to kick off the festivities, to which the comedian gamely responds, “Dare, b—h.”
Let’s just say the dare the pop star cooks up for Schumer is rather, ahem, not safe for work. But when it’s the Inside Amy Schumer star’s turn to come up with a dare, she speaks for generations of Madonna fans by saying, “Madonna. I dare you to do a world tour and play your greatest mothaf—in’ hits.”
“Four decades? As in 40 years? We’re talking ‘Like a Virgin’?” the icon clarifies before breaking into “La Isla Bonita” with a giddy Schumer as the rest of the table sings along.
“Wait, hold up. That’s a lot of songs. You think people would come to that show?” Madonna asks. And when the assembled stars all agree, she concludes, “OK, so the answer is … f–k yeah.”
Once “Vogue” starts playing on top of the celebratory scene, Her Madgesty talks directly to the camera, promising, “’80s. ’90s. 2000s. Four decades of music, avec moi. MLVC. Welcome to the party, b—-es.”
According to a release, the tour will begin July 15 at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena and play 35 cities across North America before moving to Europe in October.

Remember when the Queen of Pop kissed the Princess of Pop at the VMAs? Turns out, Madonna and Britney Spears‘ iconic awards show performance moment was actually supposed to include someone else who’s pop music royalty: Jennifer Lopez.

In a new interview with E! News ahead of the Jan. 27 streaming release of Shotgun Wedding, her upcoming Prime Video film with Josh Duhamel, J Lo confirmed rumors that she’d originally been tapped for Madonna’s headline-making musical performance at the 2003 Video Music Awards. She also explained why she ended up not doing the show, which resulted in Christina Aguilera stepping in to fill her shoes.
“Yes, that is actually true,” Lopez said. “I was filming a movie in Canada. We had met — me, her and Britney — to do it, at [Madonna’s] home. I just couldn’t get off the film, so we couldn’t do it. Then they got Christina Aguilera, I think, to do it.”
The revelation came after E! asked Lopez what her favorite karaoke song is, at which point she started singing Madge’s 1984 smash “Like a Virgin.” What’s Duhamel’s go-to, you ask? “Neon Moon” by Brooks & Dunn.
“I didn’t wind up doing it, but yeah, we had talked about it,” she added. “I love Madonna, I’m a huge fan, I always have been.”
Billboard has reached out to the VMAs for comment.
For those in need of a refresher, The Kiss went down during a group performance of Madonna’s “Hollywood” at the VMAs. Right before the song transitioned into a guest appearance from Missy Elliott, Madonna exchanged a sultry kiss with Brit, then turned to her other side and did the same with Christina. Had Lopez been able to do the show, it would’ve been her getting smooched by the Material Girl instead.
Though Madonna kissed both ladies onstage with her, it was her moment with Spears that solidified itself as pop culture history — likely due in part to the exceptionally-timed camera cut to a stony-looking Justin Timberlake, who’d broken up with Spears the year prior. Flash forward to 2022, and the “Toxic” singer and Madonna recreated the lip-lock at Brit’s wedding to Sam Asghari.

Everybody knows that Ariana Grande is a force of nature when it comes to belting out pop hits, but according to Jennifer Coolidge, the 29-year-old vocalist is also an enigma outside of the studio, too. Gushing to ET Canada, the White Lotus star opened up Monday (Jan. 16) about the pair’s fateful friendship and the mystical qualities of Grande’s “rare” personality.

“I love that girl,” she told the publication. “She has so much cool. I mean, she’s at the beginning of her life and it’s like I… she is someone that is such an unusual story because she’s this very, very old person in a very young body.”
The 61-year-old actress and Grande have been friends since the “Positions” musician did a viral impression of Coolidge on The Tonight Show for Jimmy Fallon. In a full circle moment about four years later, the Legally Blonde star herself would appear on Fallon and say that Grande’s imitation brought her career out of a “dead zone” and got the “ball rolling” for projects like White Lotus, for which she recently won a Golden Globe.
“It’s really rare,” Coolidge continued. “I sometimes feel like I’m talking to someone ancient. Her take on things [and everything] is so advanced. I don’t really know how to explain her. I have never met anyone like her in my life.”
Shortly after Grande’s Tonight Show tribute to the actress, Coolidge made a hilarious cameo in the two-time Grammy winner’s 2018 “Thank U, Next” music video, which was partly inspired by Legally Blonde. For Halloween in 2022, Ariana dressed up as Coolidge and recreated scenes from Best in Show with her Victorious costar Liz Gillies.
In December, Coolidge thanked Grande personally for being “the instigator” of her recent career successes in the actress’ Entertainer of the Year cover story in Entertainment Weekly, for which the R.E.M. Beauty founder served as guest interviewer.
“I was kind of flatlining, and you got things going for me,” she told Grande, who insisted she had nothing to do with Coolidge’s resurgence. “I just want to thank you. I know you’re a very humble person, you wouldn’t admit to it, but I’m just going to thank you.”
