It’s been a decade, so you might have forgotten, but when Meghan Trainor released her 100% certified bop debut single “All About That Bass” back in 2014, it was a smash. The doo-wop-adjacent song not only hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it stayed there for eight consecutive weeks.

Trainor celebrated the 10th anniversary of her break-out smash on Monday (April 29) by dropping in to see Kelly Clarkson on her daytime talk show, where, not for nothing, the host noted that the song was the “best-selling song by a female artist of the previous decade. That’s insane! I feel like you need an Olympic medal for that!”
What better way to fête the firestarter than teaming up with Clarkson for a duet, during which the two singers smiled and bopped their way through the lyrics about having all the right junk in all the right places?

“I see the magazines workin’ that Photoshop/ We know that it ain’t real/ Come on now, make it stop/ If you got beauty, just raise ’em up/ ‘Cause every inch of you is perfect/ From the bottom to the top,” Trainor sang as Clarkson added spot-on ad-libs and the two women fell into perfect harmony on the body positive pre-chorus.
“Yeah, my mama she told me don’t worry about your size/ She says, boys like a little more booty to hold at night/ And no I won’t be no stick-figure, silicone Barbie doll/ So, if that’s what’s you’re into/ Then go ahead and move along,” they harmonized before Clarkson took center stage on the next verse and assured her studio audience that “every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top.”
Trainor stuck around to chat as well, with the singer gushing about how in the years since the song has become an anthem for so many fans that she now considers it her “super power.” She also talked about her first tour in seven years and the logistics of traveling with her two young kids, with Clarkson warning that touring with children (and dogs) is going to be a challenge. “Can I give you a tip?,” Clarkson said about the guilt she noted many female musicians have about being on the road with families.
“You feel like you have to wake up with them… don’t do that!” fellow mother of two Clarkson counseled. “Cuz your voice will hate you.”
Trainor recently announced that her sixth studio album, Timeless, is due out on June 14 from Epic Records and dropped the T-Pain-featuring single “Been Like This,” as well as announcing the dates for her Timeless tour, slated to kick off in Cincinnati in September.

Taylor Swift is having a historic week on Billboard’s charts (dated May 4). On top of earning her 14th career No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 with The Tortured Poets Department, she sets numerous new records across Billboard’s charts, including on the Billboard Hot 100.
As previously reported, the set launches at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with 2.61 million equivalent album units earned in its opening week, according to Luminate. That’s the second-biggest week by that metric since Billboard began measuring the week’s most popular albums by equivalent album units in 2014, after Adele’s 25 (3.482 million, Dec. 12, 2015).
As Swift earns her 14th career Billboard 200 No. 1 album, she ties Jay-Z for the most among soloists. Overall, only The Beatles have more (19).

Further, all 31 songs from the deluxe version of The Tortured Poets Department debut on the latest Hot 100, including the entire top 14 – the biggest takeover ever from No. 1 on down. Here’s a recap (all of which are debuts except where noted):

Thanks to her previously-charting No. 1 hit “Cruel Summer,” revived from her 2019 album Lover, Swift lands 32 total songs on the Hot 100. In the chart’s 65-year history, that’s the most among women in a single week. Overall, only Morgan Wallen has charted more songs – 36 – in one week, when his album One Thing at a Time opened atop the Billboard 200 dated March 18, 2023.

Further, Swift charts 26 songs in the latest Hot 100’s top 40, a new one-week record. She surpasses the 22 that Drake logged on the Oct. 21, 2023, tally, when his most recent album, For All the Dogs, debuted atop the Billboard 200.
Plus, with 15 songs in the Hot 100’s top 20, Swift ties Drake for the most entries in the region in a single week. He charted 15 of the top 20 on the chart dated Nov. 19, 2022, as Her Loss, with 21 Savage, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Notably, Drake got in the way of Swift claiming 16 of the top 20 this week: his new single, “Push Ups,” enters at No. 19.
With 31 debuts, Swift ups her career total to 263 Hot 100 entries. That’s the most among women and the second-most overall, after Drake’s 330 (he adds a new entry this week, with “Push Ups”). Of those, 12 have hit No. 1 and 59 have hit the top 10 (the second-most, after Drake’s 77).

With season 16 of RuPaul’s Drag Race officially over, fans finally know who won the crown. But which recording artist managed to win in terms of streaming bumps?
Throughout the latest season of the franchise, songs featured in lip syncs have earned a 28.1% increase on average in total on-demand streams, including UGC (user-generated content), according to Luminate.
The song that earned the biggest bump of the season was Cher‘s “Dark Lady,” which featured as the Lip Sync For Your Life song for episode four (aired Friday, Jan. 26). On the day the episode aired, “Dark Lady” earned 9,180 streams; the following day (Jan. 26), on-demand streams for the song spiked to 38,183, marking a 315.9% increase in on-demand streams for Cher.
Janet Jackson’s “What About” also earned a triple-digit percentage increase in streams thanks to Drag Race. After being featured as one of the lip-sync songs in April 12’s “Lalaparuza” episode, the song shot from 1,056 streams to 3,946 streams, netting Jackson a 273.7% increase.

Meanwhile, two Donna Summer songs nabbed similarly impressive streaming bumps thanks to a pair of lip-sync showdowns on this season of Drag Race. “This Time I Know It’s for Real,” Summer’s song used in a lip sync on April 12, secured a 180.9% increase in on-demand streams the day after the episode aired. “Dim All the Lights,” used in the episode 11 lip sync on March 15, also earned a 96.4% increase in on-demand streams the day following the episode.
The finale episode of season 16 (aired Friday, April 19) saw the franchise crown Nymphia Wind as America’s Next Drag Superstar following a heart-racing lip sync to Kylie Minogue’s “Padam Padam,” (which earned a 56.5% bump in streams the day after being featured on the show). The queen made history with her crowning, becoming the first-ever East Asian winner of the American franchise.
Speaking to Billboard shortly after her victory, Wind said it felt “crazy to be able to live this out for my community and my country,” adding that “it really means a lot to me to be able to live this.”

K-pop group SEVENTEEN dropped their anticipated greatest hits album, 17 Is Right Here, on Monday morning (April 29), along with the futuristic video for the lead single, “Maestro.” The two-CD, 33-track compilation pulls together the Korean versions of eight previously released Japanese singles, 20 singles from the 13-man band’s Korean releases, as well as four new tracks and a digital-only instrumental version of the boy band’s 2015 debut single, “Adore U.”

Fresh single “MAESTRO” will be followed by the hip-hop team’s “LALALI,” the performance team’s “Spell” and the vocal team’s “Cheers to youth.” The edgy “MAESTRO” visual, directed by Han Sungsoo, drops group members Woozi, S. Coups, Wonwoo, Mingyu, Vernon, Jeonghan, Jun, DK, Joshua, Hoshi, Dino, The8 and Seungkwan into a sleek future scape filled with dancing robots and mechanical dogs in which they bust out high-energy choreo with their machine companions and conduct a gothic symphony orchestra through the hip-hop-influenced track’s dance attack.
“Aligning with the group’s core message around solidarity, this captivating dance R&B track illustrates how together, we can orchestrate our own universe like a ‘maestro,’” read a statement announcing the clip. To further the message, it aded that the video is set in a dystopian future where “anything, including music and art, can be easily created with technology.”

According to the band’s label, 17 Is Right Here got more than three million pre-orders as of April 19. During a press conference announcing the album on Monday, SEVENTEEN also announced plans for a world tour int he fall, with the full roster — including U.S. dates — to be announced later.
