We’re nearly three weeks into 2024, and the new year is already overflowing with great new music from today’s top stars in every genre.

Nearly four years since their last studio LP — 2020’s Father of All… — Green Day are back with a brand new album, Saviors, featuring a slew of singles including the Rock Airplay chart-topper “The American Dream Is Killing Me.” Starting July 29 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., Green Day will kickoff the North America leg of their highly anticipated worldwide stadium tour in support of Saviors. The jaunt will celebrate both the 30th anniversary of Dookie and the 20th anniversary of American Idiot.

Meanwhile, over on the singles side of music, Nicki Minaj surprised fans with a Future collaboration called “Press Play,” while Bleachers is continuing the rollout for an upcoming album era with “Tiny Moves,” alongside an accompanying music video starring frontman Jack Antonoff’s wife Margaret Qualley.

Mumford & Sons teamed up with Pharrell Williams for “Good People,” which was previewed during the Louis Vuitton Men’s Autumn/Winter 2024 collection runway show on Tuesday (Jan. 16) at Paris Fashion Week. Additionally, Norah Jones unveiled the first taste from her upcoming ninth album Visions, due in March, with the new single “Running.” Lastly, Kygo and Ava Max brought the nostalgic vibes with “Whatever,” which lifts its chorus from Shakira’s English-language breakout single “Whenever, Wherever.”

Music fans have a lot of fresh tracks and albums to enjoy as we head into the long weekend.

 Ariana Grande made her return with the late-’80s-inspired single “Yes, And?” Dripping with confidence, the upbeat song serves as the lead track for Grande’s anticipated seventh album, which she started teasing online in late December.

Another star to head back to the music scene is  Lil Nas X, who walked through the Pearly Gates with his long-awaited new single “J CHRIST.” “J CHRIST” marks Lil Nas X’s first official release in over a year — his last release, the League of Legends collaborative anthem “Star Walkin’,” released in September 2022. The rapper drew intense criticism in the run-up to releasing “J CHRIST” for his use of religious iconography, with commentators claiming that he was “mocking” and “disrespecting” Christianity.

Lil Nas shut down the claims in a tweet, saying “Jesus’s image is used throughout history in people’s art all over the world. I’m not making fun of shit. yall just gotta stop trying to gatekeep a religion that was here before any of us were even born. stfu.”

Jennifer Lopez reflected on her love in “Can’t Get Enough,” while Jeymes Samuel, Jay-Z and D’Angelo teamed up for “I Want You Forever.” Over on the albums side of things, 21 Savage and Kali Uchis kept fans fed with American Dream and Orquídeas, respectively.

The holiday season is in full swing, and while the weather cools down, new music releases are heating up.

This week, Tate McRae unveiled her new era with an already viral album and Guns N’ Roses are still blazing with a new single. A number of collaborations also dropped this week, including team-ups between Fred Again.. and Baby Keem, Peso Pluma and Anitta, and Sarz with Asake and Gunna.

Nicki Minaj also dropped her long-awaited Pink Friday, a follow-up to her predecessor, 2010’s Pink Friday, which topped the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart for six weeks and the Billboard 200 for one week. PF2 was slated to land on November 17, but was delayed to Dec. 8 which also serves as Minaj’s 41st birthday. 

Minaj las album, 2018’s Queen, peaked at No. 2 on both the all-genre Billboard 200 albums chart and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart upon its release.
