Peoples Choice Awards
Adam Sandler will receive the People’s Icon Award at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards. The comedy star is the sixth recipient of that award, following Melissa McCarthy, Jennifer Aniston, Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry and Ryan Reynolds.
As previously announced, Lenny Kravitz will receive the Music Icon Award at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards. The show, hosted by actor Simu Liu, will air Sunday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m. ET/PT from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.
Sandler, 57, has enjoyed phenomenal success as a comedian, actor, writer, producer and musician. His films, including such box-office hits as Grown Ups, Happy Gilmore, The Wedding Singer, Big Daddy and The Longest Yard, have grossed more than $3 billion worldwide. He has also proven to be a versatile actor with acclaimed dramatic roles in Uncut Gems, Hustle and his upcoming Spaceman. His films on Netflix are some of the most-watched on the platform, including the recent You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah.
Sandler’s work has been recognized over the years with nine People’s Choice Awards, six MTV Movie Awards and 12 Kids’ Choice Awards. Sandler was the 2023 recipient of the prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor. Those who honored Sandler on the program included Dana Carvey, Idina Menzel, Ben Stiller, Jennifer Aniston, Judd Apatow, Drew Barrymore, Conan O’Brien, Chris Rock, Pete Davidson and David Spade.
“Adam Sandler has been a fixture in the industry for decades, entertaining us since he got his start on Saturday Night Live more than 30 years ago,” Jen Neal, executive vice president, live events and specials, NBCUniversal Entertainment, said in a statement. “From Billy Madison to Mr. Deeds, his unforgettable characters have endured the test of time and left their mark on audiences for generations. We’re excited to honor him with this year’s People’s Icon Award.”
The 2024 People’s Choice Awards will air live Sunday, Feb. 18, at 8 p.m. ET/tape-delayed at 8 p.m. PT on NBC, Peacock and E! from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. Den of Thieves is producing the show. Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager and Barb Bialkowski will executive produce.
Lenny Kravitz will receive the Music Icon Award at the 2024 People’s Choice Awards, and will take the stage for a multi-song performance. Past recipients of that award are Shania Twain (2022), Christina Aguilera (2021) and Jennifer Lopez (2020). Kravitz had both success and disappointment on the awards trail with “Road to Freedom,” which he […]
Little Big Town will host the inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards from the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville on Sept. 28. The quartet, whose members were inducted into the Opry in 2014, will also perform a medley of their greatest hits during the show. The two-hour ceremony will air live on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and will stream on Peacock.
“We are honored to host the inaugural People’s Choice Country Awards, especially on one of our most beloved stages in the entire world,” Little Big Town said in a statement. “We look forward to welcoming so many of our talented peers to take the Opry stage for this magical night of music.”
The group – consisting of Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman and Jimi Westbrook – hosted the CMT Music Awards in 2018 and 2019 from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
They have also won many awards, including three Grammys for best country duo/group performance for “Pontoon,” “Girl Crush” and “Better Man.” They won vocal group of the year six years running (2012-17) at the CMA Awards and came out on top in that category four times at the ACM Awards.
The Grand Ole Opry House has hosted many awards shows through the years, including the CMA Awards (1974-2004) and the (TNN) Music City News Awards, forerunners to the CMT Music Awards, (1980-99). In 2020-21, the ACM Awards were staged at three landmark Nashville venues – the Grand Ole Opry House, the Ryman Auditorium and The Bluebird Café).
Little Big Town have had three No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart – “Pontoon,” “Girl Crush” and Taylor Swift‘s “Better Man” (the same songs that brought them their three Grammy Awards). They have amassed four No. 1 albums on Top Country Albums – The Reason Why, Tornado, The Breaker and Nightfall.
“Little Big Town is a force in country music and a beloved staple on Music Row,” Cassandra Tryon, senior vice president, entertainment live events, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said in a statement. “As Opry members, they’ve delighted fans for years on the world-famous stage and we’re honored to have them host, perform and bring this inaugural ceremony to life.”
The People’s Choice Country Awards is an outgrowth of the People’s Choice Awards, which originated on CBS in 1975 and remained on that network through 2017. (Little Big Town was the 2017 winner for favorite country group.) That show moved to E! in 2018 and has aired on both NBC and E! since 2021. It bills itself as “the only award show for the people and by the people,” a slogan that also applies to this spin-off.
The People’s Choice Country Awards is produced by Den of Thieves with Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager and Barb Bialkowski serving as executive producers, along with RAC Clark as executive producer and showrunner.
The show will extend to social platforms with Backstage Live, bringing fans at home behind the scenes as well as interactively connecting country’s most popular stars with their biggest fans.
This project is seen as an example of collaboration resulting from NBCUniversal’s equity investment in Opry Entertainment Group alongside Atairos, which was finalized last year.
The 2024 People’s Choice Awards will air on NBC and E! and stream on Peacock on Sunday, Feb. 18 — which puts the show right in thick of awards season for the first time in years.
Last year’s show, hosted by actor and comedian Kenan Thompson, aired on Dec. 6, 2022. The upcoming show marks the first time the show will have aired in the first quarter of the year since 2017 (when it aired on Jan. 18) and the first time it will have aired in February or March since 1996 (March 10, 1996).
The show will air at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. PT from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif. This marks the first time the telecast will stream live on Peacock.
The show aired on CBS from 1975-2017, moved to E! in 2018, and has aired on NBC and E! simultaneously since 2021.
The two-hour show, which dubs itself “the only awards show powered by the people,” will honor fan favorites in movies, television, music and pop culture. The eligibility period for nominees is Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2023.
“The mission of the People’s Choice Awards continues to be about giving a voice to those whose opinions matter most – the people,” Cassandra Tryon, senior vice president, entertainment live events, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, said in a statement. “Moving the telecast to the heart of awards season and expanding our reach to Peacock’s audience creates a platform for the people’s voice to be heard louder than ever, giving stars and their fans an opportunity to celebrate together.”
The 2022 People’s Choice Awards bucked industry trends with year-over-year ratings growth on the broadcast network, and delivered 173 million total engagements across linear, digital and social platforms, according to the show.
Thompson has hosted the show the last two years. Last year, Lizzo received the People’s Champion Award; Shania Twain, the Music Icon Award; and Ryan Reynolds, the People’s Icon Award.
The telecast is produced by Den of Thieves with executive producers Jesse Ignjatovic, Evan Prager and Barb Bialkowski.
As previously announced, the inaugural two-hour People’s Choice Country Awards will air live Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. ET/PT across NBC and Peacock from the Grand Ole Opry stage in Nashville.
Bad Bunny and Harry Styles are the top music nominees for the 2022 People’s Choice Awards, with Bad Bunny racking up seven nods and Styles six.
Both are nominated for the male artist of 2022, the song of 2022, the album of 2022 and the music video of 2022. (As you can see, the People’s Choice Awards uses the article “the” and the year in the name of each of its 40 categories.)
In addition to the four categories in which Bad Bunny and Styles are going head-to-head, Bunny is nominated for the Latin artist of 2022, the collaboration song of 2022 and the social celebrity of 2022. Styles’ additional nominations are for the music video of 2022 and the drama movie star of 2022 for his performance in the widely panned Don’t Worry Darling.

Actor and comedian Kenan Thompson will return to host the annual ceremony for the second consecutive year. Thompson is nominated in the comedy TV star category for Saturday Night Live. Thompson is currently in his 20th season as the longest-running cast member on SNL. For two seasons, Thompson executive produced and starred as the title character in the NBC comedy series Kenan. Thompson hosted the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2022.
“I’m beyond excited to host the People’s Choice Awards again this year and celebrate the incredible talent and fans that this show unites,” Thompson said in a statement. “I’m so grateful to be nominated – shoutout to the fans and congrats to all the nominees. Get ready for round two!!”
Thompson is represented by UTA, Michael Goldman, and Del Shaw Moonves Tanaka Finkelstein Lezcano Bobb & Dang.
