Taylor Swift is all set for a top 10 takeover in the U.K.
Following the release last Friday (May 26) of Midnights (The Til Dawn Edition), three tracks from it are vying for top 10 berths.

Based on early sales and streaming data, “Karma” could vault 67-2, after the release of a new cut featuring Ice Spice. Further down the chart blast, fan favorite “Hits Different” could arrive at No. 8 and “Snow On The Beach,” featuring Lana Del Rey, could enter the top 10, thanks to a re-recording with additional vocals from the alternative-pop artist. “Snow” starts at No. 10 on the chart blast.

Rapper J Hus could snag the highest new entry on the Official U.K. Chart with “It’s Crazy.” It’s new at No. 6 on the chart blast, and, if it holds its spot, would become the Brit’s fourth U.K. top 10 appearance.

Dua Lipa’s soundtrack from the forthcoming Barbie film, “Dance The Night,” is getting a lot of play time. It’s new at No. 16 on the chart blast, and should give Lipa her 23rd top 40 in the U.K. The Greta Gerwig-directed Barbie stars Margot Robbie as the titular Mattel doll, and is accompanied by a soundtrack, Barbie the Album, which was produced by Mark Ronson and includes songs by Lizzo, Nicki Minaj, Karol G, Khalid, Ice Spice, Charli XCX, HAIM, The Kid Laroi, Ava Max and more.

Meanwhile, Kylie Minogue’s Padamic is sweeping the country. The catchy electro-pop number “Padam Padam” is on the rise, and could crack the top 20 for the first time. It’s at No. 18 on the chart blast, after arriving at No. 26 on the chart proper last Friday, for the Australian pop veteran’s highest position on the survey since 2014’s “In The Blue” hit No. 12.

At the very top of the chart blast is, once again, “Miracle,” the throwback rave number by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding. It’s charging to an eighth non-consecutive appearance at the summit, for what would equal Harris’ longest reign for a single.

All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Singles Chart is published Friday (June 2).

Lewis Capaldi steamrolls his way to No. 1 with Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent (EMI), his sophomore album.
The Scottish singer and songwriter had set a fearsome pace. At the midway mark in the chart cycle, Capaldi’s LP was outselling the rest of the top 20 combined. When the chart was published May 26, Broken By Desire chalked up more than 95,000 chart sales, the best opening week for any title in 2023.

According to the Official Charts Company, it’s the most streamed, downloaded and physically purchased LP of the latest cycle, and passes the 76,000 first week chart units notched by Ed Sheeran’s Subtract (Asylum).

That outguns the opening effort of Lewis’s 2019 debut Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, which accumulated 89,000 chart units in its first seven days.

The last album to bag a bigger opening week was Taylor Swift’s Midnights in October 2022, with 204,000 chart units, and the loftiest start for a male solo artist since Harry Styles’ Harry’s House reached the top in May 2022 with 114,000 chart units.

With his big feat, Capaldi halts Sheeran’s run at the top with Subtract at two weeks; it dips 1-2.

British metal band Sleep Token enjoys a career best (and first top 10 appearance) with Take Me Back to Eden (Spinefarm), which bows at No. 3, while Def Leppard’s Drastic Symphonies (Mercury) with the London Philharmonic Orchestra is close behind, for a No. 4 start.

Finally, Swedish rockers Ghost grab a third U.K. top 10 with Pantomime (Loma Vista). The followup to 2022’s Impera, which peaked at No. 2, Pantomime is new at No. 8.

Lewis Capaldi can almost taste victory in the U.K. chart race.
The Scottish singer and songwriter will be hard to beat, as Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent (EMI) notches 68,000 chart sales by the midweek point, the Official Charts Company reports, and is currently outselling the rests of the top 20 combined.

It’s on track to overtake  Ed Sheeran’s Subtract (Asylum) as the year’s fastest-selling LP, and push Sheeran’s album from the summit after a two-week stay (Subtract opened with 76,000 chart sales).

Assuming Capaldi reigns supreme when the Official U.K. Albums Chart is published Friday, May 26, it’ll give the Scot his second leader after his 2019 debut Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent, which has passed one million U.K. combined sales and features the global hit “Someone You Loved,” which is recognized by the OCC as the most-streamed song in the U.K.

Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent is already a hit machine. Three songs from it, “Forget Me,” “Pointless,” and “Wish You The Best,” have led the Official U.K. Singles Chart.

Capaldi leads an all-new top four on the Official Chart Update. Based on midweek sales and streaming data, ‘80s rockers Def Leppard could debut at No. 2 with Drastic Symphonies (Mercury), a collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, while fellow British rock band Sleep Token could complete the podium with Take Me Back To Eden (Spinefarm), set to arrive at No. 3.

Close behind is Swedish rock act Ghost with their covers EP Phantomime (Loma Vista), set to start at No. 4, while Sheeran’s Subtract is poised to drop 1-5.

Also eyeing top 10 berths are veteran prog-rock group Yes with Mirror To The Sky (Century Media), at No. 6 on the chart update, and iconic U.S. singer and songwriter Paul Simon with Seven Psalms (Sony Music CG), set to bow at No. 9.

Finally, as fans mourn the death of the Smiths’ bass player Andy Rourke, the indie legends’ music is providing some comfort. The Smiths’ hits compilation The Sound of The Smiths (Rhino) could return to top 40, at No. 30.

After sprinting to the summit last week with year-best sales figures, Ed Sheeran’s – (pronounced Subtract) is unlikely to budge anytime soon.
Sheeran’s latest set leads the midweek U.K. tally for a second week, ahead of batch of new releases.

The English singer and songwriter’s sixth studio LP accumulated 76,000 first-week combined sales, easily the fastest-selling album in the U.K. this year, eclipsing the 41,000 chart units shifted by Lana Del Rey’s Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd.

Physical copies accounted for 71% of the Asylum set’s first-week total, the Official Charts Company reported, with an additional 10% from downloads.

Sheeran boasts a perfect six No. 1s, dating back to his 2011 full-length debut +, then x (from 2014), ÷ (2017), No. 6 Collaborations Project (2019) and = (2021). All of those LPs logged multiple weeks at No. 1, with 2017’s Divide the undisputed king with 20 weeks on the chart throne.

Coming in at No. 2 on the Official Chart Update is Wake Up & It’s Over (via Anvil Cat), the third EP from Brighton, England indie pop band Lovejoy. If Wake Up holds its form, it’ll give the four-piece a first top 10 appearance, bettering the No. 12 best for 2021 EP Pebble Brain.

Goldfrapp leader Alison Goldfrapp completes the podium at the midweek stage with her solo effort The Love Invention (Skint). It arrives at No. 3 on the chart blast, and could score the singer her first solo top 10. As a member of electronic act Goldfrapp with Will Gregory, the British artist has five U.K. top 10 albums.

Meanwhile, U.S. pop siblings Jonas Brothers are eyeing a No. 4 debut with The Album (Polydor), their sixth studio LP, and Daft Punk’s final album Random Access Memories (Columbia) is set to return at No. 5 thanks to a 10th anniversary reissue campaign.

British rapper Potter Payper (Real Back In Style at No. 6 via 0207); powerhouse Welsh electronic duo Overmono (Good Lies at No. 7 via XL Recordings); and U.S. singer-songwriter BC Camplight (The Last Rotation of Earth at No. 9 via Bella Union) are on track for top 10 berths.

All will be revealed this Friday (May 19) with the publication of the Official U.K. Albums Chart.

It’s another chart miracle in the U.K., as Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding’s throwback rave number bags a fifth non-consecutive week at No. 1. According to the Official Charts Company, “Miracle” (via Columbia) is once again the most-streamed track of the week in the U.K., with 5.1 million plays, to lord over the chart published May 12. […]

With a blockbuster sales week, Ed Sheeran‘s – (subtract) flies to No. 1 on the U.K. albums chart, extending his perfect streak.
The English singer and songwriter’s sixth studio LP notches 76,000 combined sales in its first seven-day cycle, easily the fastest-selling album in the U.K. this year, blitzing the 41,000 chart units shifted by Lana Del Rey’s Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd.

According to the Official Charts Company, physical copies account for 71% of the Asylum set’s total, with an additional 10% from downloads. Subtract is also the best-seller on wax.

In the end, Subtract won the chart race in a canter. By the midweek point, the LP had moved into a near-unbeatable position with more than 56,000 combined units.

Sheeran now boasts a perfect six No. 1s, dating back to his 2011 full-length debut +, then x (from 2014), ÷ (2017), No. 6 Collaborations Project (2019) and = (2021).

And with that unbroken string of leaders, Sheeran climbs the ranks of acts who’ve scaled the summit with every studio album. The “Shape of You” singer scoots past the 1975 on the list. Only Noel Gallagher with 10 albums, including his recordings with Oasis and as frontman of Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds; Brandon Flowers and Coldplay (with nine); and the Killers and Oasis (seven) are ahead of him.

Also new to the Official U.K. Albums Chart, published May 12, is Tunde with First Lap (via Tunde). It’s new at No. 4, for the Manchester rapper’s first top 10 appearance.

Also enjoying his first solo top 40 appearance is former Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan, with The Reckoning (Destruct). It’s new at No. 17. Meighan split with Kasabian in 2020 to deal with “personal issues,” he said at the time, leaving a group that had reigned over the chart with five albums. With guitarist Sergio Pizzorno taking-on vocal duties, the band last year added another No. 1 with The Alchemist’s Euphoria.

When Taylor Swift speaks, she scores. That’s precisely what happened when the superstar U.S. singer announced Speak Now would be the next to undergo a full rerecording. The 2010 collection (via Mercury) rebounds into the top 40 for the first time in 13 years, the OCC reports, up 54-23, and is one of six Swift albums impacting this week’s U.K. top tier. Speak Now peaked out at No. 6 following its original release. Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is due out July 7.

Finally, Northern Irish rock trio Therapy? bags a sixth top 40 album and highest-charting title in 25 years, as Hard Cold Fire (Marshall) debuts at No. 29 on the latest tally.

When Ed Sheeran releases new music, his fellow Brits tune-in en masse. That’s certainly been the case since the release last week of Subtract, the fifth and final release in his mathematics-themed collection.

Based on sales and streaming data captured from the early stages of the chart week, Sheeran is on track for two top ten singles, including the debutant “Curtains.” The album track is set to arrive at No. 10 on the national survey, for what would be Sheeran’s 42nd U.K. top 10 appearance.

Also on the First Look chart, former leader “Eyes Closed,” the first release from Subtract, and a track Sheeran performed Sunday on ABC’s American Idol, is set to lift 6-3 on the U.K. chart. Meanwhile, Sheeran’s “Boat” should sail into the top 20, at No. 12, well advanced on its peak position of No. 46.

The English singer and songwriter is a perfect five-for-five on the Official U.K. Albums Chart, including 2019’s No 6 Collaborations Project. Subtract is expected to keep his streak intact.

Fifty Fifty’s “Cupid” hasn’t had its wings clipped. After cracking the U.K. top 10 last Friday (May 5), earning Fifty Fifty the distinction as the first K-pop girl group to do so, the viral number could lift to No. 8.

Also on the chart blast, David Guetta, Anne-Marie and Coi Leray’s “Baby Don’t Hurt Me,” which interpolates Haddaway’s ’90s house number, is hovering just outside the top tier. It’s up 13-11 on the chart blast.

Bring Me The Horizon is on track for a sixth top 40 and the British rockers’ first-ever top 20 single with “LosT.” After 48 hours, the single makes an impact at No. 15.

Finally, British punk outfit Krown Jewelz could net another top 40 appearance with the protest song, “Scrap The Monarchy”. It’s new at No. 17 on the chart blast. Krown Jewelz is the act otherwise known as the K**ts, whose blistering bids for the Christmas No. 1 has landed top 10s in three consecutive years.

At the top of the chart blast, “Miracle,” the ’90s throwback rave tune by Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding, is heading for a fifth week at No. 1.

All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Singles Chart is published Friday (May 12).

It remains tight at the top of the U.K. singles chart race, as Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding‘s “Miracle” (Columbia) holds a slim advantage over David Kushner’s “Daylight” (Miserable Music).

“Miracle,” the throwback trance tune, edged out “Daylight” last week for a third non-consecutive week atop of the Official U.K. Singles Chart.

When the sales and streams were tallied, just 267 combined units separated the two best-sellers at week’s end.

It’s a similar story this time, with less than 2,000 combined units splitting the pair in the early part of the latest chart cycle, the Official Charts Company reports.

Libianca’s Afrobeats hit “People” (5K) completes the podium on the chart blast, up 4-3.

London rapper Nines is poised to make a splash on the singles survey, thanks to the release of his fourth album, Crop Circle 2. Three tracks from it — the maximum allowed under the OCC’s rules — are set to enter the top 40, led by “Tony Soprano 2” (No. 9), “Calendar” (No. 17) and “Highly Blessed” featuring Skrapz and Wretch-32 (No. 25), all via Warner Records. “Calendar” is poised to be the best-placed debut and the only new release in the top 20.

K-pop’s latest girl group to grab the limelight, Fifty Fifty, is on the rise with “Cupid” (ATTRAKT). After improving 26-18 last week, the tune is closing-in on a top 10 appearance, lifting to No. 13 on the chart blast.

Also on the way up is David Guetta, Anne-Marie and Coi Leray’s “Baby Don’t Hurt Me” (Parlophone), which interpolates Haddaway’s ‘90s club classic. After climbing 23-19 last week, it’s set to go even higher, to No. 15.

All will be revealed when the Official U.K. Singles Chart is published late Friday (May 5).

You can call it a tight, a nail-biter, or “miraculous,” but the result is the same — Calvin Harris and Ellie Goulding are back at the U.K. chart summit.
Harris and Goulding’s “Miracle” (via Columbia) lifts 2-1 on the Official U.K. Singles Chart for a third non-consecutive week, doing so just 267 chart units ahead of David Kushner’s “Daylight” (Miserable Music), according to the Official Charts Company. Kushner’s viral hit lifts 3-2 for a new high, while Lewis Capaldi‘s former leader “Wish You The Best” (Vertigo) is down 1-3, completing the podium.

The close call for “Miracle” is one for the record books, placing it in the all-time list.

You won’t find many narrower margins in the 68 years of Official Chart history, though few races have come down to the wire quite like the 2007 photo-finish which saw Timbaland’s “The Way I Are” pull ahead of Kate Nash’s Foundations by just 16 copies.

Also notable on the latest chart, published April 28, is Switch Disco’s “React” (Relentless), which lifts 12-8 for the dance act’s first appearance in the U.K. top 10. The track features vocals from Ella Henderson and samples from Robert Miles’ classic mid-‘90s house number “Children.”

Just missing out on the top 10 is London rapper Nines with “Tony Soprano 2” (Warner Records), new at No. 11. It’s his first top 20, and third top 40 appearance overall. And it’s the week’s top debut.

Further down the list is The Weeknd and Future‘s latest collaboration, “Double Fantasy” (Republic Records), lifted from the Weeknd’s HBO show The Idol. It’s new at No. 14.

K-pop girl group Fifty Fifty is flapping it wings with “Cupid” (ATTRAKT) up 26-18, while David Guetta, Anne-Marie and Coi Leray’s “Baby Don’t Hurt Me” (Parlophone), which interpolates Haddaway’s ‘90s club classic, improves 23-19.

Meanwhile, HStikkytokky and General G bag a top 40 debut with “Twust” (Hstikkytokky & General G), new at No. 21 and Raye’s Flip A Switch” (Human Re Sources) leaps 48-35, thanks to new remix featuring Coi Leray.

Finally, Kim Petras and Nicki Minaj crack the top 40 with “Alone” (Republic Records), sampling Alice Deejay’s 1999 house track “Better Off Alone.” It’s new at No. 37, for Petras’ second top 40, following last year’s leader “Unholy,” with Sam Smith; and Minaj’s 42nd.

After seven studio album releases, Enter Shikari finally snags a U.K. No. 1.
The St Albans, England-formed rock band blasts to No. 1 on the Official U.K. Albums Chart with A Kiss for the Whole World (via So Recordings), their sixth top 10 appearance.

Previously, the group scored top 10s with their 2007 debut album Take to the Skies (No. 4 peak), 2012’s A Flash Flood of Colour (No. 4), 2015’s The Mindsweep (No. 6), 2017’s The Spark (No. 5) and 2020’s Nothing Is True And Everything Is Possible (No. 2). Also, thanks to the release of a vinyl-exclusive pressing, Live At Alexandra Palace 3 enters the weekly survey at No. 15.

A Kiss for the Whole World completes a tight race, finishing just 800 combined units ahead of its nearest rival, The 1975’s Live with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra (Polydor). The 1975’s live set, an exclusive physical-only release (vinyl, CD and cassette) for the 16th annual Record Store (April 22), is new at No. 2 on the Official Chart, published April 28.

After starting the week with a slim lead, British indie pop duo Everything But The Girl debuts at No. 3 with Fuse (Buzzin’ Fly), for a new career best. Fuse is Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt’s first studio album as a duo in 24 years, and it’s their fifth top 10, following 1985 debut Love Not Money (No. 10 peak), 1990’s The Language of Love (No. 10), 1993 greatest hits collection Home Movies (No. 5) and 1996’s Walking Wounded (No. 6).

Completing an all-new top four is Taylor Swift’s folklore – The Long Pond Studio Sessions (EMI), a Record Store Day exclusive. The Long Pond Studio Sessions is the U.K.’s best-selling album on wax for the latest chart week, and bows at No. 4 on the all-genres albums chart. The original version of folklore spent three weeks at No. 1 in 2020.

Finally, new releases from Jethro Tull (RökFlöte at No. 17 via Century Media), Post Malone (The Diamond Collection No. 25 via Republic Records), Songer (Skala at No. 30 via Hard Reality), and Tiësto (Drive at No. 34 via Atlantic) crack the U.K. top 40 on debut.
