After the success of last year’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it seems that Nintendo is leaning into Princess Peach’s (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy) popularity with this new game. In fact, her facial expressions in the new game were changed to closely resemble the character in the smash hit animated movie.

Nintendo fans will reportedly have to wait a bit longer to get their hands on a Nintendo Switch 2.
The video game streets were talking after word got out that Nintendo showed a bunch of lucky game developers at Gamescom last year the Nintendo Switch 2, fueling the fire that the follow-up to the Nintendo Switch is coming in 2024.

Welp, unfortunately, according to sources close to the matter speaking with VGC, the Nintendo Switch 2 will be dropping in Q1 2025.

A Brazilian journalist also said the same in a video, plus “similar whispers” from sources speaking with Eurogamer also claim the Nintendo Switch 2 is coming in 2025.
If the reports are accurate, the next Switch console could launch around the same time as its predecessor did in March 2017.
Two sources confirmed to VGC that they were developing two titles for the Nintendo Switch 2: Switch Pro or whatever name it will go by when Nintendo finally unveils it.
The Verge reports the later date could allow developers to get launch titles like Metroid Prime 4 ready. That game was first announced in 2017, and its development was restarted in 2019.
It’s been five years since we heard anything about Metroid Prime 4, but according to Polygon, Nintendo could have decided to hold the game for the console’s launch.
In Other Nintendo News
This latest news comes after reports indicated that the new Switch will not have an OLED screen, which is honestly a bummer, but understandable to keep the price down, and it will still use physical cartridges.
In other Nintendo news, a Nintendo Direct: Partner Showcase is going down on Wednesday, Feb 21, focusing on games coming to the Nintendo Switch from the company’s publishing and development partners.
We will report on any big news that comes from it.

Christina Aguilera may be most known for her powerful vocals and Billboard Hot 100 chart-topping songs, but the pop star recently revealed she’s also quite the gamer. During a trip to Melbourne, the “Dirrty” singer revealed what she carries in her bag during a TikTok for the Australian food delivery service Menulog on Thursday (Nov. 30). Among her travel necessities is a pink Nintendo Lite Switch, with the star claiming she’s a “big kid at heart” and relies on the device for some relaxation when she’s on the go.

“Everybody that knows me knows I love a nice video game,” she says in the video. “It’s very relaxing. It takes me out of my element — it’s a destressor for me, so who doesn’t like a cute and pink Switch?”

You’ll also likely find her playing Super Mario Bros., as the “Beautiful” singer says she’s “a big Mario girl.”

Instead of relying on an outlet, laptop or TV to play video games, Aguilera praised the Switch’s portability, noting you can “take it on the plane, hotel rooms,” and since it’s lightweight, there’s less of a worry about the device weighing down your backpack, tote bag or luggage.

The singer isn’t the only one who’s a fan of the gaming device. It’s earned a 4.8-star rating on Amazon, with more than 47,000 verified five-star reviews by shoppers who can’t get enough of it’s “durable” design and how “how simple and portable it is.”

Back in 1996, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars was the first Mario RPG and the last Mario game released for the Super Nintendo. The game is very influential for Nintendo fans, as it paved the way for more role-playing games, such as the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series.

Ever since the first Super Mario Bros. game back in 1985, Mario became best known for 2D adventures. And after more than 10 years since the release of the last side-scrolling platform game, New Super Mario Bros. U for Nintendo Wii U, Mario is back in 2D with Super Mario Bros. Wonder.

Exclusively for Nintendo Switch, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is priced at $59.99 at Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart and Target. This game features Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Princess Daisy, Toad, Toadette, Nabbit and Yoshi (four colors) as playable characters. However, instead of an adventure in the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario and friends find themselves in the Flower Kingdom.

Nintendo

As for the game’s story, Mario, Luigi and friends make a trip to the Flower Kingdom to visit Prince Florian. However, during their visit, Bowser, Bowser Jr. and Kamek surprise attack the kingdom to kidnap the prince and steal the magical Wonder Flower. You must pick your favorite character, rescue the prince, get the Wonder Flower back and restore peace and order to the Flower Kingdom.

In addition, there are new power-ups and abilities for Super Mario Bros. Wonder — Elephant Fruit will turn you into a stampeding elephant, a Bubble Flower allows you to trap enemies in floating bubbles, a Drill Mushroom can help you navigate through levels and a special Wonder Flower can turn any level into delightfully, trippy chaos.

After playing a few levels, Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a joyful throwback to past Mario games, like the original Super Mario Bros. trilogy, Super Mario World, Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins and others, but updated with modern graphics and animations, as well as up to four multi-player co-op — local and online. This adds a new wrinkle to the gameplay and mechanics since you’re playing with and against each other in a common goal to clear levels. In other words, it plays like Super Mario Bros., but looks and feels like Super Smash Bros. at the same time.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder for Nintendo Switch is out now for $59.99.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is currently the white whale of the gaming industry, and reportedly, a bunch of Captain Ahabs (devs) got to see it at Gamescom.
The evidence is mounting that Nintendo showed off the highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 to developers at Gamescom, and they also got to see it in action. Spotted on The Verge, via Eurogamer, and Windows Central, “trusted devs” saw a tech demo of how some games run on the Switch 2.
Per The Verge:
There was reportedly a demo of an improved version of Zelda: Breath of the Wild designed to run on the more advanced hardware inside the Nintendo Switch 2. Eurogamer’s report follows rumors from Windows Central’s Jez Corden that Nintendo had discussed a next-generation Switch with select developers at Gamescom.
Reports also claim that devs saw Epic Games Unreal Engine 5 tech demo of The Matrix Awakens running on hardware Nintendo hopes to get into the Nintendo Switch 2.
According to The Verge’s reporting, the game utilized “Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology with ray tracing enabled,” signaling that Nintendo and Nvidia are possibly working on a more powerful chip for the Switch 2.
Other Nintendo Switch 2 Rumors
VGC also reports that Nintendo is gunning for a 2024 release for the Nintendo Switch 2. It will not use an OLED screen, which is an unusual decision, and will still have support for physical cartridges.
“Certain developers” also have developer kits and console development is “progressing well,” Nikkei Asia reports.
These latest reports follow the multiple rumors of Nintendo dropping a “Nintendo Switch Pro” that was allegedly supposed to allow 4K gaming, and 11 developers did get their hands on 4K Nintendo Switch development kits.
According to Bloomberg, Nintendo had to change plans due to the global chip shortage. Nintendo, who is notoriously tight-lipped about their projects, denied it was working on a 4K Nintendo Switch.
As expected, the video game streets are talking. You can see the reactions to the recent developments in the gallery below.
