Nintendo / Nintendo Switch 2

Unfortunately, Nintendo is sticking to its no-achievement formula for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Switch 2 will not join PlayStation and Xbox because Nintendo is sticking to its guns by not adding its own version of achievements. Nintendo confirmed the sad news in a recent interview with Polygon.

Nintendo’s vice president of player and product experience simply said “Nope” when Polygon asked if potential Switch 2 owners can expect to see trophies or achievements on the console.

With the Switch 2 passing on an achievement system, the console stays in line with its predecessor by leaving the ball in the developer’s courts to implement their own in-game trophies.

Ubisoft already does that with Ubisoft Connect, which rewards players for completing tasks in their games and gives them points they can redeem and use towards in-game purchases. Those achievements do pop up while playing games on the Switch.

But there is some sliver of an achievement system when you play the Switch 2 versions of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and Tears of The Kingdom.

The company revealed that players will earn medals for completing in-game tasks like traveling long distances or collecting large amounts of rupees via Zelda Notes inside the Nintendo app.

You can also compare your progress to that of other players globally.

We guess it’s a start, but honestly, Nintendo needs to stop being stubborn about achievements. Players do enjoy them, and they keep playing games for a longer period of time.

Who wouldn’t want to see a trophy pop for collecting all 900 Korok Seeds in Breath of The Wild?

We’re just saying.

With the Nintendo Switch 2 on the horizon, the company Mario built is letting us know that there are still many games to enjoy on the current Switch model.

On Thursday, March 27, Nintendo held a Nintendo Direct ahead of its big Nintendo Switch 2 presentation next week, April 2. During the nearly 40-minute presentation, Nintendo showed us some highly anticipated titles and surprises we didn’t know were in the pipeline.
Let’s jump into the biggest announcements made during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
Source: Nintendo / Metroid Prime 4: Beyond

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has been in video game limbo for years, but now we know it’s an actual thing. We also know what to expect from the latest game in the franchise, which puts players behind the helmet of Samus’ power suit.
In Beyond, Samsus finds herself on a mysterious planet that is teaming with alien life, friendly and dangerous as you search for answers and wield new psychic abilities on top of the arsenal granted to you by your Power Suit.
Official synopsis from Nintendo:
Samus Aran has been unexpectedly transported to the planet Viewros. As she explores the planet for answers, Samus is granted Psychic Abilities – mysterious and ancient powers that allow her to control the trajectory of her beams, operate mechanisms and open doors. Why were these powers bestowed upon Samus and what will her fate be? The threads intertwining beyond space and time will weave a new tale when Metroid Prime 4: Beyond launches on Nintendo Switch this year.

Marvel Cosmic Invasion
Source: DOTEMU / Tribute Games / Marvel Cosmic Invasion

Okay, here is a game we didn’t know we needed, but we are happy it exists. Tribute Games, the same studio that gave us other beat ’em up bangers like TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, is dipping into the Marvel bag with Cosmic Invasion.
Published by DOTEMU, Marvel Cosmic Invasion is a love letter to the 90s beat ’em up arcade games featuring our favorite Marvel Superheroes that we willingly used our allowance money to play.
The game features a stacked roster of heroes to play with and take on the cosmic threat Annihulus. You can either suit up as  Wolverine, Spider-Man, Nova, Captain America, Storm, Venom, and more to help save the world.
Official Synopsis from Nintendo:
Join MARVEL’s greatest Super Heroes, including Wolverine, Spider-Man, Nova, Captain America and more, in a star-spanning battle against Super Villain Annihilus. In this action-packed, 2D arcade-style beat ’em up, the timeless fun of brawlers has been modernized with dynamic tag-team fighting and a pixel art style that embodies classic MARVEL character designs. Plus, up to four players can assemble for local** or online*** co-op play. From New York City to the depths of the Negative Zone, the future of the MARVEL universe will be fought across the stars in MARVEL Cosmic Invasion, launching on Nintendo Switch this winter.
This one is high on our list, for sure.

Shadow Labyrinth
Source: Bandai Namco / Shadow Labyrinth
Amazon Prime’s video game anthology series, Secret Level, gave us a very dark and twisted version of the friendly power pellet /ghost-consuming character Pac-Man.
It turns out that the short was also based on an actual game, Shadow Labyrinth,  that takes the same premise from the Secret Level episode. Pac-Man is taken from his familiar settings and thrown into a mysterious planet as Swordsman No. 8’s mysterious guide, PUCK.

Official Synopsis from Nintendo:
Consume darkness in this 2D action platformer and genre-twisting alternate take on the iconic PAC-MAN series. On a mysterious planet littered with relics from past wars, Swordsman No. 8 is awoken by a floating yellow orb known as PUCK. As you navigate this alien maze you will shift between three different forms – jumping and slashing as the agile Swordsman No. 8, exploring in classic PAC-MAN style as Mini PUCK and unleashing devastating power as the mecha construct GAIA. Use these different playstyles to turn the tables on your enemies and grow from prey to apex predator. Work to uncover PUCK’s true goal when Shadow Labyrinth launches for Nintendo Switch July 18. A Digital Deluxe edition of the game will also be available, featuring a digital artbook and soundtrack.

These were not the only announcements from yesterday’s Nintendo Direct presentation.

This optional feature allows you to view virtual game cards or eject them from your system. The digital game can also be lent to a Nintendo Account family group member’s system via local wireless connection. Games that you lend can then be played on a Nintendo Account family group member’s system for two weeks, after which the game will be automatically returned to you. This feature will be available on Nintendo Switch starting late April via a hardware system update. Additionally, virtual game cards will also work with Nintendo Switch 2 systems at launch.

Donald Trump is on a quest to make America broke again, oops we mean “wealthy again” through tariffs, but he keeps ignoring what economists are trying to get through his thick orange head, regular Americans will feel the pain through their wallets.

Felon 47, for whatever reason, is obsessed with tariffs and believes they are a great tool against our three main trade partners, Canada, China, and Mexico because he feels we are being “ripped off,” in the trade deal he negotiated during his first term.
Trump didn’t waste any time imposing a 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico, but he pulled some back after the stock market reacted negatively. As of this writing, the markets continue to tank due to his bonehead decision.
The Orange Menace imposed an additional 10% tariff on goods from China on top of the 10% tariff he imposed on the country in February. Analysts believe that Trump’s new round of tariffs will make video games and other electronics more expensive and push publishers to abandon physical releases.
https://x.com/ZhugeEX/status/1896897066888278262
GameRant reports that Trump’s tariffs on Mexico could make consoles like the Nintendo Switch 2 more expensive and have other negative implications.
Per GameRant:
Industry experts are particularly concerned about the ripple effects on the video games market. Mat Piscatella, Circana Executive Director and Video Game Industry Analyst, predicts a “sharp downtick” in the number of physical game releases in the United States. Much of the production infrastructure for these games is based in Mexico, and a 25% tariff would disrupt supply chains, increasing manufacturing costs. As a result, retailers may raise prices on both physical and digital games to maintain price parity. “If physical game prices go up, digital games’ MSRPs will likely follow,” Piscatella noted in a recent discussion on Bluesky. He expressed doubts about any positive outcomes for the physical game market in the near future.
Bruh.
During Trump’s first disastrous presidency, the video game industry convinced him to chill and exclude them in the tariffs he placed on Chinese goods, but he has not extended the same grace.
The ESA warned that Trump’s tariffs could significantly harm the video game industry. There are fears that Project 2025, the extreme right-wing playbook that Trump claims he knows nothing about, could somehow interfere with the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 because the language in it suggests possible censorship of games like GTA 6 due to their graphic and violent nature.

This nightmare is just beginning. Brace yourselves, it’s going to be a long four years. You can see reactions in the gallery below.

Here. We. Goooooooo. The company that Mario built will allegedly finally show off Nintendo Switch 2 this week.
Video Games Chronicle reports Nintendo will finally unveil the successor to the uber-popular Nintendo Switch on Thursday, January 16, per reliable podcast Nate the Hate.
The website further reports that a trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2 will showcase only hardware, similar to the previous reveal for the first Switch.
A software showcase is allegedly coming in early March, although there are rumblings that Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater andAssassin’ss Creed are some of the third-party games Switch 2 owners can look forward to playing.

Regarding first-party releases, Nate The Hate claims a new version of Mario Kart could be available at launch, followed by a 3D Mario.
Per Video Games Chronicle:
“I can share with you that Nintendo Switch 2 will be revealed in the coming week… I have been told Switch 2 will be revealed on Thursday, January 16… just a few days from now,” they said.
“I’ve heard that the reveal itself is going to focus almost exclusively on the console itself. There is not going to be any presence of games. There could be a game shown running on the screen, depending on how the trailer is put together, but software is not going to be a focus.”
Nate The Hate claims the Nintendo Switch 2 is looking at a May or June launch.
This latest news follows the ” leak” surrounding the Switch 2 at CES, which resulted in Nintendo allegedly sending lawyers to press gaming accessory company Genki for showing off a Switch 2 mock-up at CES.
Gamers are reacting to the news of the long-awaited Switch 2 reveal allegedly going down this week.

Super Mario Party Jamboree

Release date: Oct. 17

As for the game itself, Super Mario Party Jamboree is a multi-player game with up to four players that features more than 110 mini-games across seven boards with 22 playable characters. It also introduces two online modes with rooms up to 20 players (via Nintendo Switch Online).

In our play through, we found Super Mario Party Jamboree to be loads of fun, especially in multi-player mode, with bright animations and a massive amount of characters to pick (our tester played as Shy Guy and Mario throughout the game). While it is still a good game to play in single-player mode, this game, at its core, is a party game and meant to be played with a group of friends and family.

Additionally, the “Koopathlon” online play gives you a dose of friendly competition with gamers from around the world, while the “Bowser Kaboom Squad” online challenge give you an opportunity to work together with someone in a shared goal.

One of the most fun minigames in the collection is “Rhythm Kitchen,” a new musical game show. Players cut veggies and fruits to the beat of the music to create tasty dishes and become a superstar chef in the game.

Priced at $59.99 and available for purchase at Target, Best Buy and Amazon, Super Mario Party Jamboree is out now. In the meantime, watch the overview trailer for the game, below:

‘The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom’

After Link gets trapped in a mysterious rift called “The Still World,” Princess Zelda must venture into Hyrule, with the Tri Rod and her fairy companion Tri, to find and rescue him and save the kingdom.

In our gameplay, we found that Echoes of Wisdom is a throwback to older Zelda games, like A Link To The Past and Link’s Awakening, instead of the open-world design of newer games, such as Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom.

It features new mechanics to replica objects to help you throughout your journey — which have a slight learning-curve — but, ultimately make it fun and rewarding to use what you’ve learned to solve puzzles and battle enemies. And even though you play as Princess Zelda, this is very much a Legend of Zelda game through and through, and serves as a challenging and additive adventure through Hyrule.

Priced at $59.99 and available for purchase at Target and Best Buy, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is out now. In the meantime, watch the overview trailer for the game, below:

Princess Peach: Showtime!

As far as gameplay, you play as Princess Peach to clear levels and courses with special abilities and new outfits and attacks, including Swordfighter Peach, Detective Peach, Patissier Peach, Kung Fu Peach, Ninja Peach, Cowgirl Peach and other costumes.

After the success of last year’s The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it seems that Nintendo is leaning into Princess Peach’s (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy) popularity with this new game. In fact, her facial expressions in the new game were changed to closely resemble the character in the smash hit animated movie.

Priced at $59.99 at Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy and Target, Princess Peach: Showtime! is out now. In the meantime, watch the overview trailer for the game, below:
