Boy, I tell ya’ — Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris after the vice president dog-walked unhinged pet protector Donald Trump during the presidential debate Tuesday night, and the MAGA world had been in shambles ever since.

Trump tried to clap back at Swift’s endorsement during a Fox News call where he mentioned, “I actually like Mrs. Mahomes much better” than Swift, referring to NFL great Patrick Mahomes‘ wife, who is apparently a Trump supporter.

This prompted a reporter to ask Mahomes whether he too would like to offer a public endorsement of Trump, to which he essentially replied: “Nah — cancel that noise. You should go vote though.”

“I don’t want my place and my platform to be used to endorse a candidate or do whatever, either way,” Mahomes said during the Wednesday press conference. “I think my place is to inform people to get registered to vote. It’s to inform people to do their own research and then make the best decision for them and their family.”
“You’ve seen my history,” he continued. “I’ve come up with people from every aspect of life, from every background, and the best thing about football locker rooms and kind of how I’ve grown up in baseball locker rooms is people can come together and achieve something and achieve a common goal. We talked about it a while back. If we can do that as a nation, we can get the best out of each other, so that’s something I do every single day.”
So, basically, Mahomes decided to Kumbaya his way out of explicitly declaring his support for Trump or Harris. After all, we saw what happened when WNBA phenom Caitlin Clark “liked” Swift’s post endorsing Harris and MAGA minions across the white-suprema-net told her to shut up and dribble.

In fact, Clark responded to the backlash pretty much the same way Mahomes responded to the inquiry about who he endorses: by declining to explicitly endorse either candidate and, instead, telling people to go out and vote.

“I think for myself, I have my amazing platform, so I think the biggest thing will be just encourage people to register to vote,” she said. “It’s the second time I can vote in a election; at 22, I could vote when I was 18. I can do that, that’s the biggest thing I can do with the platform that I have. And that’s the same thing Taylor did. And I think continue to educate yourself with the candidates that we have, the policies that they’re supporting. I think that’s the biggest thing you can do, and that’s what I would recommend to every single person that has that opportunity in our country.”
Yeah, the athletes are out here either dodging MAGA bullets and anti-MAGA bullets alike.
Must be exhausting. Couldn’t be me.
Man, F**k Trump. Harris 2024!

In an exclusive interview, HipHopWired spoke with Kansas City Chiefs receiver Hollywood Brown about his partnership with the hit NFL Rivals game.
On Thursday (September 5), the National Football League kicked off its 2024-2025 season with a highly anticipated rematch between the Baltimore Ravens and the defending Super Bowl LVIII Champions, the Kansas City Chiefs. The day will also see the release of the second season of the officially licensed mobile video game from Mythical Games, NFL Rivals. The new season is dubbed Year 2 and promises new gameplay features to fans which include exclusive pack drops and an expanded marketplace which fans can check out on the game’s website.

Another new element to NFL Rivals: Year 2 is the partnership between the game and the Chiefs, organized by OneTeam Partners with the hopes of growing the audience from its impressive inaugural season performance of 5 million downloads and 115 million games played. “With the upcoming release of our multiplayer mode, and the expansion of our Synergy System, fans have new and fun ways to play,” said Billy Schautz, the executive producer of NFL Rivals in a press release, “and with the introduction of the ‘Road to the Playoffs’ and its season-long ‘reward road’, during the 2024 NFL season, we’re raising the bar and setting a new standard for sports gaming as a whole.”

One of the Chiefs’ stars, wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown has been a key figure in NFL Rivals’ first season. HipHopWired got the chance to talk with him about his experience playing the game and his expectations for the upcoming season.
HipHopWired: So how’s the feedback been on your involvement with the game so far for you?
Marquise “Hollywood” Brown: the feedback has been wonderful, man. I’ve been enjoying the game myself, making me feel like a GM, building my squad up, and everything like that. And then it’s a mobile game. So I’ve been on the go playing it, its a fast-paced action game, and it’s been fun.
HHW: What’s the one appealing factor of it for you outside of being mobile? Is it tapping in when you can, you know, check on some stats or need to make quick additions?
Brown: I think building the team is what’s fascinating about it for me. It helps fans feel like they’re a GM, building a squad, getting their favorite players – and everyone has a phone, pretty much. So everyone that doesn’t have a game system, you get on here and you build your team up and go play.
HHW: I’m curious (laughs), how do you have your team set up? Who are your standouts?
Brown: I’ve obviously got the Chiefs, and my team is full of Chiefs players. I mean, I’ve got myself, I’ve got Xavier Worthy, Pat, Travis. I’m just gonna be naming Chiefs players all day because that’s my team. (laughs)

HHW: I figured, had to get it on the record. How do you feel that they’ve worked on this season, as opposed to, like, last year, with improvements?
Brown: I didn’t play a lot of season one, but it’s fun. I feel like the gameplay is fun. It reminds me of NFL Blitz.
HHW: Oh yeah, that was my game! (laughs)
Brown: So I feel like you have a lot of fun with it, and then it’s, like, all offense. So that’s what I like about it as well.
HHW: What’s the energy like for you heading into this new season with the Chiefs?
Brown: I’m so excited for the season – week one got here so fast. Just excited, you know, to see the guys battle and take on this journey. It’s a long season, and every week it’s going to be a different challenge.
HHW: So you figure a lot of teams are pretty much going to come at you, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you all are prepared.
Brown: Yeah, definitely. The guys here, they’ve played a lot of big-time games, and they understand, what it takes. And you know, for me, it’s just fitting in and bringing my element to the team, and helping the team get that three-peat.
HHW: For anybody who’s looking to get into NFL Rivals, what tips would you give them?
Brown:  Get you a quarterback – preferably Patrick Mahomes. (laughs) Get you a couple of fast guys, preferably Marquis Brown and Xavier Worthy, and get you a good tight end, preferably Travis Kelce, something like that. I’m just playing (laughs), but just be yourself with it. I mean, have fun and get the players you want, and have fun with it.

The Tennessee Titans don’t appear on the NFL’s Sunday Night Football schedule for the entire 2024 season, though Nashville will still be well represented on the NBC telecast.
Not only is Middle Tennessee resident Carrie Underwood the voice and onscreen talent for the theme song, but the music for that high-profile opening — which has its season debut on Sept. 8 — is produced by Nashville’s Chris DeStefano (Chase Rice, Chris Young) using Music City musicians at the Soultrain Sound Studios (formerly Scruggs Sound) in the Berry Hill neighborhood.

It makes sense that the piece gets cut in Nashville — “Underwood, obviously, is one of the biggest determining factors,” SNF creative director Tripp Dixon says — though the recording’s origination in Music City is not particularly well known.

Trending on Billboard

NBC has, in fact, produced the theme in Nashville for well over a decade. It was already being cut at Starstruck on Music Row when Dixon began working on the theme in 2012, the last year that Faith Hill sang the iconic piece.

And DeStefano has become a key contributor as “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” adapted from Joan Jett‘s “I Hate Myself for Loving You,” undergoes an annual evolution within a narrow stylistic window. Its role is to energize home viewers for the last football game of the weekend; thus, a panoply of options is unavailable for the production. It’s a safe bet, for example, that SNF will never open with a slow jam.

“We really want to push that energy without going too far over the top,” DeStefano says.

“But,” he adds, “sometimes we need to go over the top.”

DeStefano landed the job initially because of his success as a songwriter. He’s penned several Underwood hits, including “Good Girl,” “Something in the Water” and “Somethin’ Bad,” a Miranda Lambert duet that emerged as the SNF theme for two years, beginning in 2016, after it was rewritten as “Oh, Sunday Night.” DeStefano was tapped to co-produce with Mark Bright (Underwood, Rascal Flatts), who had already been on the job for several years.

For one year, in 2018, NBC used “Game On” for the open before returning to “Waiting All Day.” Along the way, DeStefano became the sole producer, in part because of his multitude of skills. Co-writers have, for years, marveled at his ability to play multiple instruments and swiftly maneuver plug-in technology to create demos on the fly during sessions. As a one-man shop, he’s able to assist the NBC team in finding a new musical framework each year, develop the demo on his own, then oversee the production when the network executives descend on Nashville for the recordings each summer. It’s a foundational role in the ultimate SNF product.

“A lot of this process does start with the music,” Dixon says. ” ‘Waiting All Day’ has kind of been the bedrock of this piece since the beginning, but I think each one of these successive new arrangements has, in turn, influenced what we do visually. It starts with that musical discussion.”

Those first discussions, DeStefano says, took place last December, when the playoffs were still in flux and Nashvillians were grousing about the Titans’ decline. By January, he was already creating a core demo for the 2024 theme, playing — or programming — all the instruments and recording vocals that would later provide a guide for Underwood, who jointly approves the final creative direction of the package with NBC Sports.

This year, his production experience came into play as he suggested restructuring the theme. It has traditionally started with two verses after a short intro, but DeStefano suggested leading with the chorus, allowing some new dynamic changes. That move alters the peak energy points in the 90-second production, changing the placement of some of the strongest action onscreen.

In the end, artists who’ve played on numerous country hits — such as drummers Nir Z and Miles McPherson, guitarist Rob McNelley and bassist Tim Marks — have been tapped to turn DeStefano’s demos into the master SNF recording. DeStefano still plays a part or two, particularly any tweaks that are necessary in postproduction.

The actual recording session requires plenty of preparation. Underwood invariably gets the basic vocal performance — the “generic,” as the team calls it internally — in a short number of takes. But the generic is only a fail-safe. Sections of the theme are rewritten to reflect the teams or players who will take the field each week, and NBC preps a volume of potential options to cover every scenario. They might, for example, throw in a reference to quarterback Dak Prescott for a Dallas Cowboys game, but they also record one or more backup options in case he’s injured when game day arrives.

Complicating the process, the NFL uses flex scheduling beginning in October, meaning the Sunday-night game could change in 14 of the season’s 18 weeks. They compile options to cover every scenario, and Underwood sings through them all in one massive session.

“I actually couldn’t even tell you how many iterations of the matchups there are,” DeStefano says. “There’s a lot. It’s like three typed pages, so there’s quite a bit, but it goes so fast, just because we get into the zone. Carrie’s in the zone, and everybody’s locked in. We just crush it.”

As a result, they avoid any need for a midseason overdub — even if the game gets changed during a flex week and features two teams whose biggest stars are out for the season.

In every one of those versions, it’s the Nashville music team’s job to get the viewers excited.

“It’s got to still make people turn their heads,” DeStefano says. “If they’re at a bar and it’s loud, there’s still got to be that element of ‘Oh, wait. What’s happening? I got to watch this.’”

Kendrick Lamar is heading to the Super Bowl — and fans certainly have something to say about it.
On Sunday (Sept. 8), the superstar Compton rapper was announced as the headliner for the 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, set for Feb. 9, 2025 in New Orleans. This marks the second time K. Dot will grace the stage at the NFL’s main event, after he was a special guest alongside Dr. Dre’s West Coast hip-hop showcase in 2022.

“You know there’s only one opportunity to win a championship,” Lamar says in a promotional clip on Instagram for his performance at the big game. “No round two’s.”

Naturally, fans lit up social media shortly after the announcement, with many commenting on Lamar’s high-profile rap beef with Drake and others expressing disappointment over New Orleans native Lil Wayne not being chosen to represent his hometown at the Super Bowl. Others shared their excitement over Lamar possibly bringing his anthemic Drizzy diss “Not Like Us” to millions of viewers around the world.

Trending on Billboard

“The Compton kid has completely cracked the code,” one fan commented under Kendrick’s Super Bowl announcement on Instagram. Another user wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “HE IS ON TOP OF THE WORLD.” That sentiment was echoed in another X comment. “OMG!!!!!!!!! THIS IS KENDRICK LAMAR’S YEAR!!!!!!,” a fan wrote.

“I don’t usually watch the Super Bowl, but I’ll absolutely be watching for the Kendrick concert,” another added on X.

As expected, countless fans on social media also took the opportunity to bring Drake into the conversation, with dozens of onlookers referencing K. Dot’s back-and-forth diss tracks with the Toronto MC earlier this year. The beef culminated with Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” which became a monster hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for two nonconsecutive weeks in May.

“Love this! Can’t wait to hear not like us on the world stage. Drake finna cry in the corner,” someone commented on the NFL’s X account, while another added that the 6 God’s fans are “in shambles” following the news. “They just gave bro the opportunity to diss tf outta drake on super bowl,” a user wrote on Lamar’s Instagram page. “drake drops 100 gigs of throwaway bs. kendrick drops a SUPER BOWL ANNOUNCEMENT,” another wrote on X, referencing Drake’s recent drop of content.

Some also speculated the possibility of Kendrick squashing his beef with Drake by inviting him onstage during the halftime show. “Special guest, drake?” an X fan questioned. Another person on Lamar’s Instagram joked, “Scenes when he brings out drake and they squash the beef and make out with each other.”

Lil Wayne’s name became a trending topic on X following K. Dot’s Super Bowl Halftime Show announcement, as numerous Weezy fans found it disrespectful to overlook the veteran rapper, who hails from the Louisiana city.

“Not having Lil Wayne headline is a slap to the face,” a person commented under Lamar’s announcement on Instagram. “Lil Wayne def should’ve been picked to perform at the superbowl. He’s literally from New Orleans and a rap legend…,” another wrote on X. Another Instagram commenter suggested that inviting Wayne onstage as a special guest would be “next level.”

Other social media comments ranged from which other special guests Lamar might invite to join him on stage — including the possibility of Eminem and Beyonce — while others hope that K. Dot’s Super Bowl gig will also bring an announcement of a new album. Lamar’s last studio release, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in May 2022.

The Super Bowl Halftime Show will be shown live on Fox from the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Feb. 9. It will also be the sixth year that the show will be programmed by Roc Nation, which is executive producing the show alongside Jesse Collins, produced by DPS and directed by Hamish Hamilton. Creative direction for Lamar’s performance will be provided by pgLang, the creative imprint co-founded by the rapper.

The NFL season just kicked off and Kendrick Lamar is surely going to enjoy the season. On Sunday (September 8), the NFL announced that K. Dot will be headlining the 2025 Super Bowl’s halftime show.
And right on cue, social media began to clown the Compton rapper’s nemesis, Drake, because pettiness is indeed part of Hip-Hop. Argue with your auntie.
The NFL, Roc Nation and Apple Music made the announcement and Lamar’s own pgLang will be handling the creative direction of the show. “Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer,” said Jay-Z, who has a hand in picking the halftime talent, in a statement. “His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision. He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
“What the deal everybody? My name is Kendrick Lamar, and I’ll performing at Super Bowl 59,” says Kendrick in a video clip share on his social channel. “Will you be pulling up? I hope so. You know there’s only one opportunity to win a championship—no round two’s, let’s get it.”

Kendrick Lamar saying “no round two’s” was a clear shot at Drizzy (who’s probably none too happy Jay-Z help book the rapper) considering the 6 God recently said he was readying a round 2 in his “battle” with the Compton rapper. Good look with that, respectfully.
Also worth noting, the Grammys are scheduled for a week before, and Kendrick most certainly will be winning a trophy for his “Not Like Us” single. That man is nefarious.
But don’t take our word for it, peep the reactions in the gallery.
Super Bowl 59 goes down on February 9, 2025 in New Orleans.

Shopping for game day gear? This NFL-branded apparel collection is perfect for football lovers, and for Swifties, NFL friendship bracelets are back in stock.

It goes without saying that Taylor Swift, technically, has nothing to do with football. Besides, of course, dating Super Bowl star tight end Travis Kelce for the past year. But if you are new to this whole NFL thing, you might think that Swift was one of the leagues premiere athletes based on a viewing of the leagues promotional sizzle reel for this weekend’s official kick-off of the season.
In fact, you only have to wait, literally, two seconds, before spotting Swift hanging in a luxury box with Mama Kelce and shouting her support for Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs in the 30-second promo clip. And there she is, five seconds later, once again flipping out alongside Donna Kelce.

If you watch closely, you might notice that the pop superstar actually gets more screen time than any actual NFL star, including three-time Super Bowl champ (and three-time Super Bowl MVP) and Kelce’s QB, Patrick Mahomes. As the video moves through the months, we also get a glimpse of Dolly Parton, who famously donned the skimpy Dallas Cowboys cheerleader outfit last season, swaggy fedora-sports agent Sean Stellato… and then Swift again, dressed in a Kelce No. 87 puffer coat and beanie hat.

Trending on Billboard

And then, a few seconds later, there she is again giving Kelce a big kiss on the field after the Chiefs punched their ticket to Super Bowl LVIII before a brief glimpse of Usher during the Super Bowl halftime show makes way for another shot of Swift, this time in the luxury box pounding a drink with Brittany Mahomes and Ice Spice.

To be fair, since Swift and Kelce began dating near the beginning of last season, the singer has dominated the gridiron in the same way she does the charts, with reports that ratings were up last year, especially among women 12-17 and 18-49. Swift recently wrapped the European leg of her Eras Tour and while it’s unknown if she’ll be back in the box on Thursday night (Sept. 5) when the Chiefs take on the Baltimore Ravens in their season opener, Mahomes recently revealed that Swift is “really interested” in football and asks great questions, joking that “she’s already drawing up plays.”

Kelce seconded that emotion on The Rich Eisen Show recently, when he said that Swift has learned so much about football over the past year that she is, in fact, making prettygoodplay suggestions. “She had just been so open to learning the game. She didn’t know much about the rules and everything,” he said. “I think what makes her so good in her profession is that she’s so detailed in every aspect of it, from the words to her music and even the releases and the music videos and everything. She’s just so detailed and apart of it, that I think she was just curious about the profession. I know none of the plays have gotten to Coach [Andy] Reid yet. If they ever do, I’ll let everyone know it was her creation.”

Of course, he added, “she’s a little biased and just creates plays for me.”
