Two new members were inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Hall of Fame on Tuesday (April 8): BMI singer/songwriter John Oates (in radio) and the National Football League, or NFL (in TV). The inductions were the highlight of a dinner at Encore in Las Vegas that was jointly presented by BMI and the NAB.
The event marked the end of BMI’s run hosting the dinner, with plans for NAB to continue the Hall of Fame tradition moving forward.
Oates, who first signed with BMI in 1972, was inducted into the NAB Radio Hall of Fame for his contributions to American radio, chiefly as the co-founder of Daryl Hall & John Oates, one of the most successful duos in music history. Hall & Oates amassed 16 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 — including seven that Oates co-wrote — including “Sara Smile,” “She’s Gone,” “You Make My Dreams,” “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do),” “Maneater,” “Adult Education” and “Out of Touch.”

Oates had previously received the BMI Icon Award and the BMI Troubadour Award. He has also received 10 BMI Pop Awards and 30 BMI Million-Air Awards for his songs’ repeated airplay. In addition, as a member of Hall & Oates, he received five Grammy nominations and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.
In accepting the award, Oates thanked the NAB for the honor and talked about the importance of radio in his life, sharing that the music played on the stations he listened to growing up was “indelibly printed on my soul, my mind, and it’s the music that made me. I owe everything to radio.” He then performed six songs: the Hall & Oates hits “Out of Touch” and “She’s Gone;” three solo songs, including “A Ways Away,” from an album slated for release later this year; and a rendition of the 1954 Ray Charles classic, “I Got a Woman.”
The NFL was inducted into the NAB Television Hall of Fame for its pioneering influence on sports broadcasting, from its early days to its role as a cultural powerhouse today. Since the first televised NFL game in 1939, the league has consistently broken barriers in the broadcasting world.
Rich Eisen, NFL Network broadcaster and host of The Rich Eisen Show, accepted the award on behalf of the NFL, acknowledging the league’s far-reaching impact on sports broadcasting and TV culture. A video produced by NFL Films was shown, highlighting the NFL’s journey in TV history, leading into Eisen’s acceptance speech and a video message from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
On BMI’s last time hosting what has become a highlight of the NAB Show, BMI CEO/president Mike O’Neill said, “In celebration of 75 amazing years, I can think of no better time or way to preserve the tradition of this evening than for BMI to hand it over to our incredible partners from the start, the NAB. We believe that the broadcasting industry and the creative community will always enrich one another, and BMI is honored to facilitate that vital relationship long into the future.”

The NFL has recently made a significant change to its rulebook, banning the popular “nose wipe” celebration.
As of the latest update on page 50 of the NFL rulebook, the gesture is now classified as an unsportsmanlike conduct violation. Any player who performs the nose wipe will face a 15-yard penalty. The rule defines the nose wipe as part of a broader category of “violent gestures,” which also includes throat slashes, mimicking the firing of a gun, and any sexually suggestive actions.
The nose wipe has gained popularity among athletes in recent years, largely influenced by modern hip-hop culture. Artists like Young Thug, Future, and YG have used the gesture in their music videos and public appearances. However, its meaning in hip-hop culture is tied to street symbolism. Within certain communities, especially among gang affiliations, the nose wipe is used as a subtle, coded sign often connected to the Bloods gang. The act of wiping the nose in this context signifies distrust or a threat to another person.
While the NFL has not explicitly referenced the gesture’s gang ties, the league’s decision to ban it likely stems from concerns over the promotion of violence or divisive symbolism. By eliminating the nose wipe from the field, the NFL is attempting to maintain a neutral and respectful environment, free from any gestures that could be seen as promoting aggression or gang-related messages.
Some NFL stars, like CeeDee Lamb, have made the nose wipe a regular part of their post-touchdown celebrations, using it as a personal signature on the field. Lamb, always known for his flashy style, has often used the gesture to emphasize his excitement after getting a first down. However, with the league’s new ruling, Lamb and other players who have adopted the nose wipe will now have to find new ways to celebrate without risking a penalty.

When former NFL wide receiver Steve Smith Sr. woke up on Saturday morning, we are positive he didn’t think he would be one of the top trending topics on X, formerly Twitter.
Things got interesting for the former Carolina Panthers and Baltimore Ravens wide receiver, now an NFL Network analyst, when the husband of a woman on X responded to his post featuring a video of himself playing golf, accusing him of sleeping with his wife. He came bearing receipts in the form of text messages.
Smith has been married since 2000 and has four children.
Man just found out that former NFL receiver and current NFL Network analyst Steve Smith Sr. has been sleeping with his wife. He posted the texts and a phone call with Smith on X after finding out.

The accuser shared a screengrab of the alleged sexts between Smith and his wife while tagging multiple news outlets, Smith’s sponsors, Yeti Coolers and TaylorMade, his former team, the Panthers, Ravens, and, for some strange reason, Antonio Brown.
He also shared a video of an alleged phone call between himself and Smith where you can hear the former pro football player saying, “I’m sorry,” and a photo of a bare-chested Smith with a unicorn graphic over his midsection.
The man claims his wife met Smith while working for the Ravens marching band.
Social Media Had Jokes About The Situation
Following the revelation of social media has been on one, of course, it was nothing but pure jokes, especially regarding the explicit nature of the sexts.
“White man crashing out on Twitter cause his wife’s fucking Steve Smith Sr….and yall think I’ll leave this app? Tuh. NEVER. Can’t pay for this kind of live entertainment,” one user on X wrote.
Another user was too tickled by the accuser’s wife telling Smith he almost shifted her contraceptive device. “Rearrange my IUD…..I am dead,” the user said.
Bruh, moments like these make the dumpster fire that is X bearable.

Jalen Hurts is clearly a leader on and off the field. Cameras caught him putting respect on Saquon Barkley’s name during their Super Bowl victory.
As per USA Today the world is getting some more insight on what makes Jalen Hurts the ultimate professional in the NFL. During their Super Bowl match against the Kansas City Chiefs he and Saquon Barkley were both wearing wireless microphones. At the tail end of the game where it was clear that the Eagles would be victorious, cameras caught the two expressing their excitement. Here we see Jalen telling Saquon to his face that he was the key their success. “Hey, man, that’s you. That’s you. I know it’s all of us, but you don’t understand the difference you made. You know, we right there. But you like that last piece, man” Jalen says.
The University of Oklahoma alumni is referring to the 2023 season where they originally faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LVII but lost 38 – 35. In 2024 the Philadelphia Eagles acquired Saquon Barkley. Prior to signing he revealed he was his frustrations with his former team The New York Giants and referred to the negotiation tactics “a little disrespectful.”

Taylor Swift has earned a good reputation for her cooking skills, just don’t ask Kylie Kelce what those meals taste like. Kelce, who is married to former NFL star Jason Kelce, said when the couple had a stay-at-home double date with her brother-in-law, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and Swift, the singer whipped up a dinner for them that went untouched for a very good reason.
Appearing on Wednesday’s (Feb. 12) episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast, Kylie said that during the couple’s night, “I don’t know that I really ate the meal,” explaining to host Alex Cooper that the night out was actually a night in at her and Jason’s house. “This is going to sound terrible. I didn’t really eat the meal because I was eight weeks pregnant and it was one of those where nothing sounded [good to me].” Kylie is pregnant now with her and Jason’s fourth child, a girl, who will join their daughters Wyatt, 5 and Elliote, 3 and Bennett, 23 months.
Kylie told Cooper that she first met Swift at a Chiefs game against the Buffalo Bills in January 2024, and dispelled rumors that she appeared to be avoiding the singer, who began dating Travis the previous summer. “People are deeply disturbed by this. There was, like, all this stuff leading up to it [the meeting] about, ‘Well, why haven’t they met, they’re avoiding each other.’ I’m not avoiding anyone. I’m more than happy to meet someone, especially someone that Travis is dating,” she said.
Trending on Billboard
To be fair, Kylie said she didn’t even meet Travis for “close to a year” when she began dating Jason. “And she’s busy,” Kylie said of the pop supernova who wrapped up her historic Eras Tour on Dec. 8 of last year. “It’s just so silly to me that that’s the storyline that’s written,” Kylie said.
Cooper also asked how the rest of the family found out that Travis — who Kylie said feels like a sibling to her at this point — was dating the most famous singer in the world, assuming that there was a group text or some other kind of secret signal.
“We were not [told]. I will say, we knew before everyone else knew, but it was not like… it did not hit the group chat,” Kylie said. “Jase and I found out together, but we knew before they hard launched with her going to a game,” she said in reference to Swift appearing at a Sept. 24, 2023 game between the Chiefs and Chicago Bears.
As for what she and Swift had bonded over in the year since, Kylie said she and Taylor grew up going to the same New Jersey Shore points in Sea Isle/Stone Harbor, where she and Jason now own a home.

As expected, the MAGA contingent was once again BIG MAD at the Black National Anthem being sung at the Super Bowl.
Will this be an annual thing, or will the Orange Menace, aka Donald Trump, sing one of his useless executive orders ordering all American sports leagues only to perform the National Anthem and sporting events?
Even though the NFL has gotten rid of the “end racism” signage in the back of endzones for the Super Bowl, they still kept the singing of “Lift Every Voice” ahead of kickoff, a move the league adopted in 2020 in the wake of protests following the murder of George Floyd at the hands of police.
The song was adopted by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and is commonly called the Black National Anthem.
Louisiana-born singer Ledisi performed the song in New Orleans ahead of Super Bowl LIX in front of Felon 47 Donald Trump, and the performance was magnificent.
Unfortunately, like last year, the MAGA cult was BIG MAD at the idea of the hymn being used as a separate anthem in a league that features predominantly Black players.
Right-wing commentators such as Charlie Kirk sounded off on the performance. “Only our actual national anthem should be performed at the Super Bowl,” Kirk wrote.
“Black National Anthem’ is a racist relic left over from the BLM era. Get rid of it,” the lame account End Wokeness said on X, formerly Twitter.
Another crappy account R T wrote, “Just muted the Black National Anthem. There’s one national anthem for this country and that ain’t it. We’re all Americans, not divided by Race, Creed, Sex or Religious Preference.”
Black Xitter Loved Ledisi’s Performance
Thankfully, Black Xitter loved seeing MAGA all butt-hurt about the performance of the hymn.
“Yes, the Black National Anthem does deserve to be a part of the Anthems we sing at the Super Bowl. Why? Because Black History is American History,” one post on X read.
Another post read, “Baby, #Ledisi sang the Black National Anthem from her soul and pit of her stomach! The ancestors are proud!”
They can honestly stay mad. The NFL better not let these people influence them into taking out the Black National Anthem.
