Cheers. So tell me what’s something that has happened in your year that you’re really proud of?

Maren Morris
I’m putting my album Dreamsicle out in May. So this all just feels like one giant pre-party for my fourth album to be out.

Tetris Kelly
We’re on the move to the show right now. What’s your vibe like on the way to a show?

Maren Morris
I mean, I certainly love to blast music before the show with my band, because it kind of works as a warmup for our vocals. My band certainly helps me relax, because they’re all just goofballs, and they make me laugh so hard. And then shows like this is like a party for them, because they get to drink White Claw and then go, hopefully sound good tonight.

Tetris Kelly
And I mean, White Claw Sessions are normally really intimate events. So what’s the difference between performing in something like this and like arenas?

Maren Morris
I feel like you get to see people and their reactions. You can see them singing along with you. It just feels more human. And I think over the years, with each album, I’ve been able to just really home in on a fanbase that is so supportive and loving, and it feels like a safe crowd when you’re at that show and just connecting with people through singing.

You’re not gonna be late because of me.

Maggie Rogers to Speak at Alma Mater NYU Tisch School of the Arts 2025 Graduation

Maggie Rogers is headed back to her alma mater to help send off this year’s class of graduates, with the singer/songwriter announcing Monday (May 5) that she’ll speak at the 2025 New York University Tisch School of the Arts commencement ceremony later in the month.

Sharing a nine-year-old photo of herself in her purple graduation robes and cap, Rogers — who completed a bachelor’s degree at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music in 2016 — posted the news on Instagram and wrote, “see you at graduation.”

Tisch also posted the announcement on its official account, revealing that the “Alaska” singer will serve as the school’s 2025 Salute Honored Speaker. The ceremony will take place May 16 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Rogers’ participation in the school’s commencement is sure to be a full-circle moment, given how her career first took off when she was still in an NYU classroom. A filmed 2016 masterclass guest-led by Pharrell Williams for the Clive Davis Institute famously propelled the Maryland native into the spotlight, with the producer declaring in the viral video that he’d “never heard anyone like” Rogers after listening to her then-unfinished song “Alaska” during the session.

The musician has since dropped three albums, all of which charted on the Billboard 200; Heard It in a Past Life, which features “Alaska,” arrived in 2019, followed by 2022’s Surrender and 2024’s Don’t Forget Me.

In addition to earning her bachelor’s at NYU, Rogers also finished a master’s degree in religion and public life at Harvard University in 2022.

Chris Brown Earns Third RIAA Diamond Certification With ‘Look at Me Now’ Feat. Lil Wayne & Busta Rhymes

Chris Brown turned 36 years old on Monday (May 5), and he has extra reason to celebrate his birthday after the RIAA announced that he’s collected another diamond certification with 2011’s “Look at Me Now.”

After going eight times platinum in 2021, “Look at Me Now” earned diamond status on Monday. With assists from Lil Wayne and Busta Rhymes, the Afrojack and Diplo-produced single landed on CB’s F.A.M.E. album. (The Recording Industry Association of America issues diamond certification to singles that have sold 10 million units in the United States.)

Busta Rhymes’ speedy bars over spacey synths became one of the most memorable verses of his career, which has been imitated by fans at karaoke bars across the globe — but never truly duplicated.

A Colin Tilley-directed visual arrived in March 2011 and has compiled nearly 580 million views on YouTube. “Look at Me Now” peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.

“I knew that I was working on something for a Chris Brown record, but I thought it was for a mixtape,” Diplo told VIBE of the track’s formation. “When I did the beat, I gave it to one of his writers. Then Busta Rhymes got on it and I was like, ‘OK, this is going to be a club record.’ And then when Wayne got on it, ‘Look at Me Now’ became a radio record. It just took off from there.”

It’s Brown’s third diamond plaque following “No Guidance” with Drake and his appearance on RVSSIAN and Rauw Alejandro’s “NOSTÁLGICO.” “Look at Me Now” is Wayne’s fourth diamond certification and Busta Rhymes’ first.

Fourteen years later, Brown is still at it. He’s preparing to hit the road for a global trek, as the Breezy Bowl XX stadium tour is slated to kick off in Amsterdam on June 8. Jhené Aiko, Bryson Tiller and Summer Walker are set to join him on the tour at various stops across the world.

Gloria Gaynor Says ‘Biggest Misconception’ About Her Is That She’s a Feminist: ‘I Love Men’

Gloria Gaynor is setting the record straight about her stance on an important but polarizing subject: feminism.

In a new interview with Metro published Monday (May 5), the disco legend revealed that she does not identify as a feminist when asked what people often get wrong about her. “The biggest misconception about me? It may be dangerous to say this, but that I’m a feminist,” she said.

“People say it to me, ‘And since you’re a feminist …,’” she continued. “Uh, no. Not really. I love men.”

Noting that she grew up with five brothers, Gaynor added, “I love men who know who they are and are strong enough to take their place, but also strong enough to recognize a woman’s strengths and … allow her to exercise those strengths and realize that we are to be partners and not opponents.”

So, there you have it: Gaynor, whose Billboard Hot 100-topping 1978 smash “I Will Survive” is widely regarded as one of the most iconic feminist anthems of all time, does not consider herself a feminist. Her comments have already sparked pushback online, with many people pointing out that, despite her implication, loving men and feminism are not mutually exclusive. By definition, feminism is the “belief in and advocacy of the political, economic and social equality of the sexes expressed especially through organized activity on behalf of women’s rights and interests,” according to Merriam-Webster.

“So Gloria Gaynor doesn’t know what feminist is … got it,” one person wrote on X.

“So Gloria Gaynor isn’t a feminist because she loves men?” wrote another user. “Feminism isn’t anti-man, it’s just pro-human rights. But sure, let’s ignore that. i love men and I‘m still a feminist.”

Billboard has reached out to Gaynor’s rep for comment.

The Grammy winner’s new interview comes a few weeks after she announced that her new EP, Happy Tears, will arrive June 6. The first taste of the five-track project came in February, when Gaynor dropped single “Fida Known,” which she told Metro is her favorite song of the bunch.

“The song is all about helping people to look back on the things that they’ve overcome and to recognize what they’ve come through,” she told the UK publication. “It’s, ‘If I’d have known this, I wouldn’t have done that,’ but you didn’t know that, and you still made it through.”

Gaynor added, “The song sort of continues where ‘I Will Survive’ left off.”

We see “Ordinary” hit a new No. 2 peak. And with 11 weeks at No. 1 are Kendrick Lamar and SZA with “Luther.”

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ Trial Will Be the Subject of a New Daily Show

ABC News announced on Monday (May 5) a new show about Sean “Diddy” Combs’ trial will air each day.

According to the press release, the new 30-minute program, titled Burden of Proof: The Case Against Diddy and hosted by GMA3 co-host Eva Pilgrim, will offer analyses of what’s going on inside the courtroom. The series will start with an episode breaking down the music mogul’s sex trafficking trial’s jury selection, which began on Monday. Regular daily episodes will then follow on May 12, when opening statements are expected to take place.

The new program comes as Diddy’s trial finally gets underway. The Bad Boy Records founder — who has denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution charges — has been held at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest last September. It is estimated that once juror selection is completed, the trial could last anywhere from eight to 10 weeks. Combs turned down a plea deal May 1 in favor of taking his case to trial. He could face a life sentence if convicted of all charges.

ABC’s series is far from the first piece of visual media dedicated to Combs’ ongoing legal struggles. In April, the BBC announced it was developing a documentary titled: P Diddy: The Rise and Fall, and earlier this year, Investigation Discovery dropped its series titled The Fall of Diddy.

Burden of Proof: The Case Against Diddy will air on ABC News Live at 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. ET through until the trial ends.

Zach Bryan Re-Ups Deal With Warner Records

Zach Bryan has re-upped with Warner Records, Billboard has confirmed.

The extremely prolific singer-songwriter has released three studio albums on the label since first signing with it in 2021: 2022’s American Heartbreak, 2023’s self-titled set and 2024’s The Great American Bar Scene. He’s also put out three EPS and two live sets. The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news, adding that the new deal is for at least two albums.

Bryan’s rise has been meteoric. Billboard named him its top new artist of 2023, and he has dominated at both country and rock since then.  “I Remember Everything,” his duet with Kacey Musgraves, and “Something in the Orange” were the top two songs on Billboard’s 2024 year-end Rock Streaming Songs chart. That same year, he ranked third on Billboard’s Top Artists of 2024 and No. 1 on the Top Rock & Alternative Artist chart. His self-titled set became his first album to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and all three of his full-length Warner Records sets have bowed atop Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.

Bryan has also been a critical favorite, earning four Grammy nominations, with “I Remember Everything” winning best country duo/group performance at the 65th annual Grammy Awards in 2024.

He’s also a crowd favorite. After headlining the opening night of Stagecoach last month, Bryan is headed to Dublin for three shows in June and then will play BST Hyde Park in London on June 28-29. He will then return stateside for seven stadium shows, including three nights at Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

Bryan helped usher in a new wave of country-oriented acts signing with coastal labels, as Billboard reported in September.  Bryan wasn’t the first country-leaning act signed by a major coastal label, but his massive success has proven that an act no longer necessarily needs the usual Nashville methods, including country radio, to break through.

Prior to the pandemic, Nashville labels generally had a lane to themselves when it came to signing country artists, with their relationships at country radio giving them almost exclusive access within the genre. But once COVID hit and touring slammed to a halt, labels became laser-focused on data and analytics as the only available metrics to gauge an act’s success. The coastal labels saw tremendous opportunity and jumped in, with New York and Los Angeles labels signing country-leaning acts with strong streaming numbers and a high TikTok engagement rate, including Warren Zeiders (Warner Records), Koe Wetzel (Columbia), Dasha (Warner Records) and Ella Langley (Columbia); or jointly with a Nashville partner, such as Megan Moroney, who is signed to both Columbia and Sony Nashville.  

Warner Records declined to comment on the news.

Is Ryan Reynolds Working On A 3rd ‘Deadpool’ Film Featuring X-Men?

Just when it seemed like the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s popularity was dead in the water, Ryan Reynolds threw Marvel a much needed lifeline with his cult classic Deadpool & Wolverine and single-handedly resurrected interest in the struggling MCU.

Now that fans are once again on the Marvel bandwagon following the announcement of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, many have been wondering what the future holds for Deadpool and Wolverine going forward, and it seems like we might have finally gotten some answers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ryan Reynolds is quietly plotting his return in Marvel’s upcoming Mutant Saga (which is rumored to be the focus over the next 10 years at Marvel Studios) and his next Deadpool film may feature more X-Men along with Wolverine. There has been rumors being thrown around for some time now that Deadpool may introduce X-Force in his next film as Marvel Studios continues to round out the cast for their upcoming X-Men film. Though there’s no word on which mutant characters would make an appearance in Deadpool 3, it seems like decisions will be made sooner than later as the project is already in the beginning stages of being written.

Per The Hollywood Reporter:

Reynolds is exploring ideas for a Deadpool movie that would feature X-Men characters, as well as continuing to script the Paramount comedy Boy Band after making writing a priority for much of this year before tackling other obligations, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

The multi-hyphenate is working on various treatments for an ensemble film featuring three or four X-Men characters. Deadpool would of course appear, but perhaps only as a supporting player. Reynolds is said to believe that keeping his f-bomb wielding anti-hero more on the sidelines could allow for the X-Men characters to be used in unexpected ways. Reynolds has been open about every Deadpool movie needing a strong reason to exist, and it’s possible this could provide the avenue he needs.

Truth be told we’ll have to wait to see how the everything pans out in the Marvel universe following the events of Doomsday and Secret Wars, which Deadpool and Wolverine are said to be a part of even though they haven’t been confirmed characters in the film as of yet.

As for Deadpool playing a supporting actor in his third installment, he’ll have to have some pretty popular mutant characters lead the film if that was to be the case. Either way we just want to see Deadpool standing alongside the Avengers or X-Men at some point, but even Reynolds admits that such a scenario may have some unexpected consequences.

At the time, Reynolds also told THR that he believed Deadpool could appear opposite the X-Men and the Avengers, but that the character joining those teams would have unintended consequences. “His ultimate dream is to be accepted and appreciated. But he can’t be accepted. His coping mechanism of deflecting shame through humor works only when used to pave over his many inadequacies. If and when he does become an Avenger or X-Man, we’re at the end of his journey.”

Nah, fans don’t want to see Deadpool’s journey come to an end anytime soon.

Billie Eilish Has a Laughing Fit During Her Stunning Cover of Radiohead’s ‘Creep’ at Amsterdam Show

Billie Eilish fans in Amsterdam are feeling so f–king special after witnessing the star cover Radiohead‘s “Creep” at Ziggo Dome on Sunday night (May 4).

In videos posted by concertgoers, Eilish departs from her regularly scheduled setlist to deliver a stunning rendition of the rock band’s signature hit, joined on stage by two backup vocalists and an electric guitar player. Taking the main melody, the nine-time Grammy winner’s piercing voice soars over lush harmonies provided by the other singers, with Eilish adding her own tasteful riffs throughout.

“But I’m a creep, I’m a weirdo,” she sings, closing her eyes to the music. “What the hell am I doin’ here?/ I don’t belong here.”

At one point toward the end of the performance, the musician spots something in the distance that makes her crack up, and is unable to stop laughing. Even as she raises her microphone to start singing again, she bursts into another fit of chuckles, eventually composing herself enough to deliver the song’s final haunting bars.

Released in 1992 as Radiohead’s debut single, “Creep” eventually entered the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1993 before peaking at No. 34 the following September. It’s featured on the band’s first album, Pablo Honey, which reached No. 32 on the Billboard 200.

Eilish’s performance of the track comes midway through her Hit Me Hard and Soft Tour, which kicked off in September in support of her 2024 album of the same name. After touring North America through late December, the “Lunch” singer has spent the past couple of months traveling around Australia and Europe, with her trek set to conclude in Ireland in late July.

One venue at which she’ll set up shop for six nights on the road later is the O2 Arena in London, where she previously performed in 2019. While she was there, none other than Radiohead’s Thom Yorke caught her performance, after which he told British newspaper The Times, “I like Billie Eilish.”

“She’s doing her own thing,” he added at the time. “Nobody’s telling her what to do.”
