“I am absolutely thrilled that our music festival is back and bigger than ever, now extending to two full days of unique voices and talented artists that will inspire and uplift all those in attendance,” Franklin said in a statement. “Exodus has always been about bringing together fans and artists in celebration of the power of gospel music, and it’s a true honor to be a part of this incredible event once again. I’m also incredibly thankful for our partnership with Live Nation Urban, which has allowed us to create an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.”

Added Live Nation Urban president Shawn Gee, “Kirk Franklin and his team have been amazing partners for Live Nation Urban. This was the first festival partnership we entered into when the company was formed a few years back. It’s great to see the event grow and scale, and we will continue to invest in the gospel music community as it’s an area of priority for LNU.”

The Exodus Music & Arts Festival welcomed such gospel stars as Mann, Marvin Sapp and Tye Tribbett during its aforementioned inaugural year. For its second year in 2019, the festival boasted a lineup that featured Cobbs Leonard, Fred Hammond, The Clark Sisters and Travis Greene, among other acts.

‘Weird Al’ Yankovic’s 10 Biggest Songs on the Billboard Hot 100

In many ways, the history of popular music over the last several decades can be traced through the eyes of one Alfred M. Yankovic. A master satirist who spent years fashioning pun-filled, ornately produced send-ups of the most popular hits of any given time period, “Weird Al” Yankovic paid homage to the ‘80s pop anthems of Michael Jackson and Madonna, the ‘90s grunge of Nirvana, the turn-of-the-century top 40 Billboard Hot 100 fodder of Backstreet Boys and Avril Lavigne, the rap stylings of Eminem and T.I. and much more. While Yankovic makes a habit of asking the permission of any artist he’s satirizing, being spoofed by “Weird Al” has long been a badge of honor — if he’s making a parody of your song, your song is important.

And yet, Yankovic does not only exist for comedy fans: his send-ups of popular tracks are so well-done, and so catchy, that they have often become popular on their own merit. Over the course of his career, “Weird Al” has launched multiple songs onto the Billboard Hot 100 chart — with one even reaching the top 10. And while Yankovic hasn’t released a proper album since 2014’s Mandatory Fun, he’s still active on tour, playing these parody hits to thousands of adoring fans. In 2022, Yankovic tapped Daniel Radcliffe to play him in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, a “Weird Al” biopic that fittingly satirized musician biopic tropes (and had little basis in reality, but was still hilarious).

Check out “Weird Al” Yankovic’s 10 biggest Billboard hits to date below.

Charlamagne Tha God Defends Anchor Taken Off Air After Quoting Snoop Dogg: ‘Not a Reason to Fire That Woman’

Charlamagne Tha God spoke out on The Breakfast Club in defense of a Mississippi TV anchor who seems to have been punished for quoting Snoop Dogg on air.

“She can’t say ‘fo shizzle, my nizzle’?” the radio host questioned during the show’s popular “Rumor Report” segment during a show last week. “I guess ’cause ‘nizzle’ is derivative of the N-word? I’m saying that in context, I didn’t mean to say it. … I’m not using that word.”

After his co-host DJ Envy opined that the anchor, Barbie Bassett of WLBT, shouldn’t lose her job over the gaffe, Charlamagne doubled down in agreement. “I don’t think she should’ve been fired. She might not even know what ‘nizzle’ means, yo,” he argued. “Like, come on, we got to, like, stop, man. That’s not a reason to fire that woman.

“That’s the thing with hip-hop, man. Hip-hop is so big and so mainstream and it’s just like, who can consume it and who can’t? You know what I mean? Who can repeat slang and who can’t?” Charlamagne continued. “She might not have any idea, she just thinks she’s sounding cool repeating Snoop Dog!”

As of press time, Bassett has been off the air ever since she offhandedly repeated the phrase while bantering with her co-anchor during their March 8 telecast. Her biography has also been removed from the station’s official website, though WLBT’s general manager has reportedly declined to comment on the situation, according to a report by Jackson, Miss.’s The Clarion-Ledger.

Watch Charlamagne debate use of Snoop’s slang word below, starting at the 4:22 mark, and the clip of Bassett on-air.

Fitz & The Tantrums’ Michael Fitzpatrick Breaks Down Viral TikTok Lyrics: ‘Behind the Setlist’ Podcast

Michael Fitzpatrick, singer for rock band Fitz & the Tantrums, doesn’t envy the younger generation of artists trying to catch a break in the music business.

“I’m so grateful my career happened and flourished before TikTok came,” Fitzpatrick tells Billboard’s Behind the Setlist podcast. “I feel for these new artists. They’re not even making music. They’re just content creators. They’ll work a whole year on an album and [if] their label doesn’t see enough viral s–t, they’ll literally shelf their album.”

Fitzpatrick is hardly alone in his criticism of TikTok. Last year, Halsey blasted her record label for holding the release of a new track “unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok.” Lizzy McAlpine, who debuted on the Hot 100 chart in February thanks to the success of the track “Ceilings” on TikTok, told Billboard she has “a love/hate relationship” with the app. “I feel like I can see the benefits of it, which is why I post,” said McAlpine. “But if I didn’t have to post, I would not be posting on TikTok.”

Not that Fitz & the Tantrums hasn’t had a bit of TikTok success; the band’s song “Out of My League,” which reached No. 13 on Billboard’s Hot Rock Songs chart back in 2013, has been given added longevity by being used in nearly 165,000 TikTok videos. But artists and labels can’t summon a viral hit on command, and Fitzpatrick isn’t sure lightning will strike twice. “I would say in the law of averages, we already had our viral moment on TikTok. So what’s the chance I’m going to get two? I’m not so sure.”

The trick is coming up with what Fitzpatrick calls “quotable” moments in music. He cites Meghan Trainor’s “Made You Look” as a good example of a song that wasn’t necessarily written with social media in mind but is perfectly built for viral potential. Trainor and her co-writers Sean Douglas and Federico Vender wrote “vibrant, neon-colored lyrics” with brand names — Gucci and Louis Vuitton — to go with “a cool dance,” he says. “I think if you can find a lyric that really feels makes a statement or says something profound in a clever way and is succinct enough, that’s not a bad idea to consider in your songwriting because it gives your song a quotable moment.”

If there’s a song from the latest Fitz & the Tantrums album, Let Yourself Free from 2022, with TikTok potential, it could be a track called “Ahhhh.” The lyrics — Fitzpatrick songs “I could be someone when I grow up” in the pre-chorus — have already attracted some TikTok users. “What I realized is we weren’t trying to create that moment, but it might be the most quotable part of the whole record,” says Fitzpatrick. “People went out, they felt that lyric, felt that message and they’re creating.”

But will “Ahhhh” resonate with a larger swath of TikTok users? “We’ll see,” Fitzpatrick says cautiously. “It’s such a tricky thing.”

Elon Musk Now Says The For You Tab Will Only Feature Tweets From Twitter Blue Subscribers

Elon Musk Says For You Tab Is For Twitter Blue Subscribers Only

Another day, Elon Musk continues to make Twitter a very sh*tty experience for everyone.

If you open Twitter and see many people on your timeline, you don’t follow or care to follow. There is a good reason for that. There is this god-forsaken tab, “For You,” that shows you tweets from users that Twitter’s algorithm believes you will take an interest in.

It also hilariously is full of Elon Musk’s tweets after it was discovered that the Tesla chief had developers create a special system to flood our timelines with them after his Super Bowl tweet didn’t do the numbers President Biden’s tweet did.

Now, he’s desperately trying to ween the company off the ad-based revenue it heavenly relied on after his purchase of Twitter made everyone say I’m good beloved by introducing a subscription service nobody wants.

For either $8 a month or $84 annually, you will not only get a verification badge, which he is even making celebrities and notable people have to pay for, access to different features, and now have your tweets show up in the “For You” tab.

Musk made the announcement on his personal Twitter account, writing, “Starting April 15th, only verified accounts will be eligible to be in For You recommendations. The is the only realistic way to address advanced AI bot swarms taking over. It is otherwise a hopeless losing battle. Voting in polls will require verification for same reason.”

In the same breath, he also wrote, “That said, it’s ok to have verified bot accounts if they follow terms of service & don’t impersonate a human.”

Twitter Hates The For You Tab & Paying For Blue Checks

According to Musk, Twitter is worth half its value now at $20 billion. Musk acquired the social media company for $44 billion.

Twitter has been clowning the “For You” tab, and the idea of legacy verified accounts having to pay for the blue checks. In a back-and-forth with William Shatner, aka Captain Kirk, Musk told the iconic Star Trek actor, “It’s more about treating everyone equally. There shouldn’t be a different standard for celebrities.”

Riiiiiggght.

In the gallery below, you can see what Twitter thinks of Musk’s new stupid idea.

Quavo Set to Drop New Takeoff Tribute ‘Honey Bun’ This Friday

Teased on Instagram this past Monday (March 27), Quavo is shown standing in front of a jeep at what appears to be a music video shoot. The black and white photo included a succinct caption, “Honey Bun,” with the honey emoji, the suggested release date “Friday,” and the hashtag “#ForTake.” On Tuesday (March 28), Quavo shared the single art for the track, showing an aerial view of a series black SUVs parked in an “H” formation.

Last week, Quavo’s estranged cousin Offset shared a teaser of some new music featuring Icewear Vezzo and a posthumous verse from Takeoff. A few months ago, fans were elated to hear Takeoff spar alongside A$AP Rocky on the Metro Boomin’ standout track “Feel The Fiyaaah,” serving as his first set of raps since the Migos star’s passing last November.

Quavo recently released a song titled “Greatness,” where he spoke on the legacy of the Migos and even debunked rumors about a possible reunion. “Don’t ask about the group, he gone, we gone, young n-gga it can’t come back, damn!” said Quavo referring to Takeoff’s death as the reason why the group will never return.

Before Takeoff’s death, he and Quavo released their album Only Built For Infinity Links last fall. The project received praise as the twosome showcased their innate chemistry and skated their way into a top ten debut on the Billboard 200. Singles included their Hot 100 hits “Hotel Lobby” and “To The Bone” with YoungBoy Never Broke Again.

The Do Lab Drops Coachella 2023 Lineups: See Who’s Playing

The Do Lab, organizers of its flagship festival Lightning In a Bottle and producers of its own stage at Coachella since 2004, have dropped its lineups for Coachella 2023 on Tuesday (March 28).

Over it’s nearly 20 year history at Coachella, the Do Lab’s stage has become famous for being a festival within a festival, bringing the production company’s heady, bespoke, sort of deliciously loose vibe to the polo field.

Weekend one will feature sets from dance/electronic starts including Aluna, Carlita, DJ Tennis, Flight Facilities, Michaël Brun, Phantoms, SOHMI, The Glitch Mob, Whipped Cream Daily Bread, Franky Wah, Henry Pope and Party Favor & Baauer playing b2b as Dylan and Harry.

Weekend two will bring in another round of heavyhitters including HOLLY b2b Machinedrum, Giolì & Assia, Mikey Lion, A-Trak and Chrome’s Dave1 playing together as The Brothers Maklovitch (as they are actual brothers), Carré b2b Samwise and many more. The Do Lab also assures surprise guests playing over both weekends.

These artists, some of whom are playing on other stages at Coachella over its upcoming back-to-back weekends (April 14-16 and April 21-23), join the festival’s already robust lineup of dance/electronic acts.

Key acts include Calvin Harris, who hasn’t played Coachella since his main stage slot in 2014, the Coachella debut of Eric Prydz’s revered HOLO show, a set from Deadmau5′ TESTPILOT alter-ego, along with genre pioneers The Chemical Brothers, whose last Coachella appearance was back in 2011.

Meanwhile, the Do Lab will throw its annual Lightning In a Bottle bash this Memorial Day weekend in Bakersfield, Calif. with a lineup including REZZ, LP Giobbi, Caribou, Diplo, Zhu, Tokimonsta and many more. 2023 marks the 20-year anniversary of Lightning In a Bottle, a key player in the “transformational festival” circuit that’s helped influence festival culture up and down the West Coast and to points well beyond.

TLC’s T-Boz Gushes Over Chilli’s Relationship With Matthew Lawrence: ‘She Is So Happy’

“She is so happy,” T-Boz told People at the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards on Monday (March 27). “Take it from her sister. Trust me — I’ve never seen her like this.”

Chilli agreed, revealing, “I am ecstatic. He’s the best, and she approves.”

Chilli and Lawrence were first photographed together vacationing in Hawaii last summer, but reportedly didn’t get together romantically until just before the holiday season. Their relationship was confirmed to Billboard in January. Chilli and the middle Lawrence brother — whose divorce from ex-wife Cheryl Burke was finalized last September — spent both Thanksgiving and Christmas together according to the singer’s publicist, and the actor met the “Unpretty” singer’s family in Atlanta.

“She’s an amazing person,” Lawrence told E! News of his new love earlier this month. “She’s already a mother, she has an incredible son. I respect so much as to how she’s raised him. She’d be an incredible mother again and I’d be incredibly lucky but that’s way in the future.”

The Boy Meets World alum also opened up about the impact his new relationship has had on him, saying, “My life is in complete bloom right now. I get to spend time with an amazing woman like Chilli. I’ve never gotten to be able to experience that kind of a relationship before … She’s a really, really special human being. I wish more people on the planet were like her. We’d be much better off.”
