Hot 100 First-Timers: Noah Kahan Debuts With ‘Dial Drunk,’ Tops Rock Charts

Noah Kahan is officially a Billboard Hot 100-charting artist, as his new track “Dial Drunk” debuts at No. 43, the highest debut on the chart this week.

“Dial Drunk,” released June 9 via Mercury/Republic Records, debuts on the latest chart dated June 24 with 9.5 million U.S. streams, 583,000 radio airplay audience impressions and 1,000 downloads sold in the June 9-15 tracking week, according to Luminate.

The song appears on the new expanded edition of Kahan’s third LP Stick Season, first released in October. The new version, released June 9 and amended to Stick Season (We’ll All Be Here Forever), contains six additional songs, plus an extended version of the set’s original “The View Between Villages,” on top of the original’s 14 tracks.

Thanks to the re-release, the album (with all versions combined into one listing for charting and tracking purposes) vaults from No. 100 to No. 3 on the Billboard 200 (in its 29th total week on the chart) with 71,000 equivalent album units earned. Stick becomes Kahan’s first top 10 on the all-genre chart, while also hitting No. 1 on the Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums and Americana/Folk Albums charts for the first time.

Kahan, 26, has maintained a familiar presence on Billboard’s charts since 2018; he logged his first chart appearance on Jan. 27, 2018, when his EP Hurt Somebody debuted at No. 22 on Heatseekers Albums. The same week, the EP’s title track with Julia Michaels debuted at its No. 24 high on Hot Rock Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. Three months later, it entered Adult Pop Airplay, peaking at No. 35 that May.

Kahan has landed six songs on Adult Alternative Airplay: “False Confidence” (No. 8 peak in 2019), “Mess” (No. 26, 2019), “Cynic” (No. 30, 2019), “Stick Season” (No. 2, 2022), “Homesick” (No. 7, 2023) and “We’re All Gonna Die,” with Joy Oladokun (at a new No. 17 high on the latest chart).

Before this week, Kahan had charted seven songs on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs, with “Stick Season” reaching his career-high peak of No. 12 in November. This week, he nearly triples that tota, landing a whopping 18 songs on the chart — including five in the top 10, with “Stick Season” at a new No. 8 best. Here’s a recap (all of which are debuts, except where noted):

Rank, Title
No. 3, “Dial Drunk”
No. 7, “You’re Gonna Go Far”
No. 8, “Stick Season” (re-entry)
No. 9, “Call Your Mom”
No. 10, “The View Between Villages”
No. 11, “No Complaints”
No. 16, “Paul Revere”
No. 19, “Your Needs, My Needs”
No. 20, “Northern Attitude” (re-entry)
No. 23, “All My Love” (up from No. 47)
No. 28, “Homesick” (up from No. 45)
No. 31, “She Calls Me Back”
No. 32, “Orange Juice” (re-entry)
No. 35, “Growing Sideways” (re-entry)
No. 36, “Everywhere, Everything”
No. 38, “New Perspective”
No. 45, “Come Over”
No. 48, “Strawberry Wine”

(His one other song to have hit the chart that doesn’t re-enter this week is “Hurt Somebody,” which reached No. 24 in 2018.)

In the 14-year history of the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, Kahan is just the fifth act to chart at least 18 songs in a single week, after David Bowie, Linkin Park, Taylor Swift and Zach Bryan.

As for Kahan’s other Billboard chart appearances, “Need Your Love,” with Gryffin and Seven Lions reached No. 12 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs in 2019, while his debut studio album Busyhead reached No. 57 on Top Album Sales in June 2019.

Kahan is currently on the road on his Stick Season Tour, which runs through September.

The streamer shared a new teaser as well as first-look images for the new series on Friday (June 17). In the clip, we catch glimpses of the show’s symbols for water, earth, fire and air each being imbued with their respective elements, before the show’s title appears. Netflix also teased first-look photos of the main cast in costume, including Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio Tarbell as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka and Dallas James Liu as Zuko. “Meet Aang, Katara, Sokka and Zuko in Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender, coming 2024,” the post’s caption reads.

For those unfamiliar with the world of Avatar, the original series takes place in a society split into four nations: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation and the Air Nomads. Within this society are unique people labeled as “Benders” who have the ability to telekinetically control an element within their tribe. The Avatar has the ability to control all four elements and is the only person who is able to do so.

In a new episode of Wizards of Waverly Pod, Stone told co-host David DeLuise that the idea was potentially pitched to Selena Gomez, who played Alex. “I don’t know how true this is, but I was told that it was pitched to Selena to do a Harper-Alex spinoff, and she said no because she had a lot of other things going on,” Stone explained.

When DeLuise (who played Jerry Russo in the series) asked when the idea was pitched, Stone said it was after Wizards of Waverly Place wrapped in 2012. “I get it, she had a million other things going on and she wanted to move forward,” the actress continued. “Honestly, at the time, I wanted to move forward too. Looking back, it would have been great, but the thing is, where we both were at the time — like, we just wanted to explore other things.”

Earlier this year, Gomez herself joined the podcast as a guest, where she reminisced on the good times with her former co-stars. “I can’t begin to tell you guys without making it such a little cry session, I felt like I was the happiest I’d been in my whole life,” she said of her years as Alex. “And I don’t want that to be a sad thought because I’m really grateful and happy. But it was definitely the happiest times for me, and I recognize that obviously I have this different attention on me that I just didn’t have then and that was a really pure time.”

However, Hit-Boy turned heads after sharing via social media that he once provided a beat for a pornographic movie scene featuring the legendary Pinky aka PinkyXXX.

On Tuesday (June 20), Hit-Boy, 36, was in a sharing mood and revealed a tidbit of his history few knew about.

“the part of my journey i never told no one. my cousin phashon RIP [a dove and praying emojis]used to direct p*rn when i was younger. he used to buy beats from me for the score to his films. he bought this beat from me for a pinky scene when i was 18. i was tryn make dr dre type beats,” Hit-Boy shared.

We want to show you the video clip in question but we don’t want to get flagged so click here to see what the producer and rapper was referring to in the tweet.

In the clip, Pinky, who goes by her actual name Sarah Mirabelli these days, is seen in the clip doing her signature booty clap. Those who know, know. Do your Googles to find the other stuff.

Pinky is currently on a fitness journey and operates a pair of Instagram pages where she occasionally shares details of her day. She also operates a popular OnlyFans account and does occasional club hosting dates.

It appears that her time in front of the camera, at least in her former role, is also over. However, she does work as a director in the adult film world and features some of the top talents in that space on her site.

Prior to that, the producer born Fred Gibson will perform a three-night run at New York’s Forest Hills Stadium on Oct. 12-14, with that stint marking the first time an artist has ever played three consecutive nights at the 13,000 capacity venue.

The general ticket sale for all of these shows start next week Tuesday, June 27, at 2 p.m. local time.

“We’ve had some of the most beautiful times ever here,” the producer said of these bicoastal takeovers in a press release. “Btw I do jus [sic] wanna say that I do very much wanna come back to lots of other cities down the line. But right now for the type of things I want to try wit [sic] the show and musically it made most sense to set up in one venue for more shows rather than moving about.”

Beyond these runs, Fred Again..’s current schedule encompasses festivals including Glastonbury (launching later this week in the U.K.), Lollapalooza and Osheaga. Fred will also play four nights at London’s Alexandra Palace Sept. 4-6 and 8, followed by shows in Berlin, Amsterdam, Brussels and Paris.

His most recent collaboration with those two artists, “Baby Again,” is currently at No. 37 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs.

“During a time where access is easy, but the story behind the artists is missing. It is important to celebrate and highlight the artists who are “Next Up,” but it is also important to pay homage to what Black music has done for culture and what this month represents,” says TheBasement founder and Warner Records svp of A&R Ericka J. Coulter.

Colter adds, “TheBasement Series was created to bridge the gap and curate unforgettable moments that will continue to live rent-free in your brain. [We’re] reminding you where you saw and heard it first.”

In previous years, TheBasement has been instrumental in championing emerging artists such as Blxst, Lola Brooke, G Herbo and more with its much-talked-about concert series. TheBasement’s Black Music Month event will follow up their previous sold-out show last April, which featured Superstar Pride, Alex Vaughn, and TraeTwoThree, amongst others.

“In honor of Black Music Month, we’re proud to support TheBasement Series, says Tim Himshaw, head of hip-hop and r&b for Amazon Music. The event continues to push the narrative for African American creatives and musicians all around the world.”

Niall Horan Signs Publishing Deal With UMPG

Niall Horan has signed a new worldwide publishing agreement with Universal Music Publishing Group. Already a signee of Capitol Records, his new deal with UMPG sees the artist uniting both recorded and songwriting efforts under the Universal Music umbrella. Previously, he was signed to an administrative agreement with Downtown Music Publishing, beginning in 2017.

The Irish singer-songwriter got his start as a member of top selling boy band One Direction, co-writing songs on each of the band’s five albums, including their Billboard top ten hit “Story of My Life.” After the group disbanded, Horan found success as a solo artist. In 2017, his debut album Flicker produced hits like “Slow Hands” (which peaked at No. 11 on the Hot 100) and “This Town” (which hit No. 20 on the Hot 100). He followed up Flicker with sophomore project Heartbreak Weather in 2020 just as the pandemic began.

Earlier this month, Horan released his long-awaited third album The Show, featuring lead single “Heaven.” It debuted at No. 1 in the U.K. and Australia and also marked his third project in a row to hit No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart.

In a statement about the deal, Horan said, “It’s my absolute pleasure to sign with UMPG. I have known Mike personally for many years and I’m so happy that I get to work with a man who firstly genuinely cares about artistry and the art of writing a song, and secondly knows the world of publishing like no other. To have met the great Jody Gerson who I’ve known of throughout my career as being a badass publisher and when I felt the love from her and Mike, I wasn’t going anywhere else to be honest.”

UMPG UK Managing Director, Mike McCormack, added, “I’ve known Niall for years and he has always shown a deep commitment to the art of songwriting. I’m thrilled UMPG has the privilege to represent his past, present and future solo works and support his artistry alongside Harry and Richard from Modest Management. We are especially excited to be celebrating Niall’s fantastic new LP and know he has a bright future ahead.”

Harry Magee of Modest Management said, “Mike has been talking to me about Niall since our lockdown bike rides and when the album finally started to come together, it was then very post-lockdown in McCormack’s kitchen with some great wine, my phone and the obligatory Bluetooth speaker. He really gets Niall’s musicality and singer-songwriter spirit which has reached new levels of maturity on this record. Mike was excited from that day and so this partnership has always been written in the stars!”

Kendrick Lamar Buys Bootleg Air Jordan 12’s & Wears Them Proudly

Kendrick Lamar just had one of the most lucrative rap tours in history as his Big Steppers tour hauled in an impressive $110 million, but even with all that success, K. Dot doesn’t seem to have a problem splurging on some bootleg Jordans.

Over the weekend, sneakerheads went into a frenzy when the “HUMBLE.” rapper took to Instagram to show off his latest pickup, which was a pair of counterfeit Air Jordan 12 “Flu Games.” Posing with the bootleg kicks as if they were the kind of grails you’d be proud to finally get your hands on, Kung-Fu Kenny proceeded to take a stroll through the streets of New York City in his brand new pair of fugazis because, well, he’s Kendrick Lamar.

As to why K. Dot would share the moment he bought and wore some blatantly bootleg Jordan’s, we have no idea, but knowing that he’s a millionaire he can afford any pair of Jordan’s he wants in the world, it was pretty entertaining. The bootlegs didn’t even have a Jumpman logo on the tongue as they instead featured a figure dribbling a basketball. At least K. Dot out here supporting small businesses.

Naturally, people took to the comments section with comedic and astonished reactions, but it was all in good fun as everyone felt Kendrick was simply trolling the hardcore sneakerheads who wouldn’t be caught dead mix-matching Nike and Adidas attire, much less wearing blatantly bootleg sneakers.

What do y’all think Kendrick Lamar was trying to say or prove by sharing this sneaker content on his social media page? Let us know in the comments section below.

As many celebrated Juneteenth across the nation, Candace Owens went on to trash the holiday—and received some serious backlash after her comments.
On Monday (June 19th), numerous celebrations were being held across the United States to celebrate Juneteenth as it marks its second year of becoming a federal holiday. Owens, who’s known for making a slew of incendiary remarks targeting Black people and other marginalized groups, went on Twitter and wrote: “Juneteenth is still ghetto and made up. Hope everyone enjoys it!”

She has railed against Juneteenth before on Twitter, having “described it as ’emotional programming for black people that choose to opt in to the perpetual victim mentality,” according to a report by Newsweek. “Juneteenth is soooo lame. Democrats really need to stop trying to repackage segregation. I’ll be celebrating July 4th and July 4th only. I’m American,” she stated at the time. While there was the usual gaggle of right-wing advocates and online bigots who responded to her tweet applauding her appalling statement, the rude remarks didn’t go unchallenged for long. Some took it upon themselves to educate Owens on the history of the day, sharing informative articles and links. Many decided to pull up and tell Owens all about herself in a wild and witty fashion, with a few of her followers actually siding with supporters of the holiday.

Here’s a sampling of some of the more entertaining clap backs served up to Candace Owens online. Maybe next time she might reconsider putting her foot in her mouth about the significance of the day – but we doubt it.
