One of the most popular gaming systems ever has just become a bit more affordable. Sony has announced a price reduction for the PlayStation 5.

As spotted on HypeBeast Sony has dropped the ticket on the PlayStation 5. While the savings are only about 50 dollars this marks the first price cut in the console’s history. Starting this week the PS5 is priced at $459.99 at GameStop; but Pro Members can get an extra discount of $23 dollars via their membership benefits. Additionally, the system is available at Monoprice for $449.99.

This news comes to the gaming community as a welcomed surprised as inventory on the PlayStation 5 was very limited due to global chip shortage in 2020 and just started becoming more available at the beginning of 2023. Since its release  Sony estimates they have sold over 40 million units. The PS5 has been generally well received by critics for its performance and design. Additionally, the DualSense controllers are widely regarded as the best controller ever.

Back in May the Sony PlayStation 5 Project Q was announced as the consoles handheld counterpart. The Project Q features an 8 inch LCD HD screen and with DualSense controllers on each side. This device will allow users to stream their PlayStation 5 games while on the go. “Later this year, we will launch a dedicated device that enables you to stream any game from your PS5 console, using remote play over Wi-Fi,” said Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment said at the time of the announcement.

It is unclear if the PlayStation 5 will remain discounted or if other retailers will also sell the console at the new price. Currently several mass merchant chains including Target are still selling the system for $499.99.

According to the announcement, as part of the program, the three selected artists will be featured in a series of three mini-documentaries developed and directed by Atlanta creative Cam Kirk, which gives viewers an up-close look at the journey of the selected artists as the next generation in Atlanta Hip-Hop.

The inaugural episode of the documentary highlights Pote Baby, who shared that his creative vision is to bridge the gap between Savannah and the global entertainment world by opening up recording studios, live performance venues, art spaces, and movie theatres in his hometown.

“I grew up seeing Trick Daddy, Wayne, and Camoflauge represent the ghetto and the south in a fly way,” Pote Baby said in a statement, “So it’s dope to get a chance to do the same thing for the next generation.”

Developed by Amp, in collaboration with Kenny Burns, The Come Up launched with a focus on Atlanta-based Hip-Hop talent, featuring live music and discussion-based radio shows on Amp hosted by Burns, Big Bank, DJ Kash, Paige Shari, Su Solo, and hip-hop fans across the platform.

“The A has it all — artists that sing, rap, and dance, and rappers that are actual rock stars!” Kenny Burns said in a statement. “Fans have been gathering live on Amp to weigh in on their favorite new artists in the Atlanta hip-hop scene, and we’re excited to highlight CEO Trayle, Ken Carson, and Pote Baby as part of The Come Up because they represent this new wave of diverse talent rising up in the city today.”

In addition to being featured in the Cam Kirk docuseries, to help amplify their music, each artist will receive opportunities to be interviewed on fan-favorite Amp shows such as The Daily Cannon with Nick Cannon, and Rotation Radio with Gabe P and Nyla Symone, along with promotional support across Amazon Music and Amp and inclusion on “The Come Up” playlist on Amazon Music.

“I’m excited to be part of an opportunity that highlights emerging artists from my city,” selected artist Ken Carson said in a statement. “Atlanta’s always had the best sound in music and I’m happy to be a part of that. We’re not stopping anytime soon.”

Friday Music Guide: New Music From Doja Cat, Halle, LE SSERAFIM & Demi Lovato and More

Billboard’s Friday Music Guide serves as a handy guide to this Friday’s most essential releases — the key music that everyone will be talking about today, and that will be dominating playlists this weekend and beyond.

This week, Doja Cat leaves you on red, Halle make a heavenly solo debut, and Demi Lovato links up with LE SSERAFIM for uptempo fun. Check out all of this week’s picks below:

Doja Cat, “Paint the Town Red”

One could reasonably expect for Doja Cat to snap back at faux supporters trying to constrict her to one sound or style; a bit more surprising is Doja Cat delivering a belated tribute to recently passed musician Burt Bacharach. Yet she does both on crackling new single “Paint the Town Red,” which utilizes the Dionne Warwick classic “Walk On By” as a foundation for the audacious multi-hyphenate superstar to declare, “Yeah, bitch, I said what I said.” While stans will pore over every line and innuendo, the entirety of “Paint the Town Red” sounds more dynamic than Dojo’s previous single, “Attention”: she’s naturally in the pocket during the rap verses, and the extended hook is a pop-rap triumph, brimming with self-assured skill.

Halle, “Angel”

Unlike most debut singles, “Angel” arrives after its creator, Halle Bailey, has already made a significant impact on popular culture — first as one-half of the acclaimed R&B duo Chloe x Halle with her equally talented sister, and then as a rising star in Hollywood, leading the live-action The Little Mermaid and coming soon in The Color Purple remake. “Angel” could have been a quick check-in for hungry music fans, but Halle infuses the rhythmic, piano-led track with vulnerability and heart, sharing her insecurities while declaring that she will ultimately fly above the sentiments trying to weigh her down.

LE SSERAFIM feat. Demi Lovato, “Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s Wife”

Demi Lovato continues a particularly adventurous streak by hopping on a new remix to K-pop group LE SSERAFIM’s viral B-side “Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s Wife,” leaping into the boundaries of the megawatt song and proceeding to nudge them just a little bit farther outward. The track was already a thumping, quick-moving flirtation, and Lovato’s voice provides another powerful siren cry: “I see it written on your face, yeah / I know you want a little taste, yeah,” Lovato sings with a world of confidence.

Grupo Frontera, El Comienzo

The story of Mexican music’s global breakthrough in 2023 cannot be told without Grupo Frontera, the Texas group who fully transitioned from releasing viral covers to scoring their own smashes this year. Debut album El Comienzo acknowledges the songs and co-stars that helped the collective conquer the charts — “No Se Va” and their Bad Bunny team-up “un x100to” are the first two songs on the track list, after all — yet Grupo Frontera have plenty of new tricks up their sleeves on the project, as they bring new collaborators into their universe and shine on their own with tracks like the emotionally heightened “Cansado De Sufrir” and the airy, charming “Me Gustas.”

Usher feat. 21 Savage & Summer Walker, “Good Good”

Modern R&B is rife with euphoric love songs and devastated heartbreak songs; less common are the post-breakup anthems in which both sides are pleased with the split and can newly coexist as friends. “Good Good” finds Usher exploring that rare terrain while sounding especially spry: maybe it’s the fresh subject matter, or maybe the presence of 2020s A-listers 21 Savage and Summer Walker have pushed the veteran to step his game up, but regardless of the reason, Usher is downright reinvigorated on these vocal runs and sumptuous hooks.

Editor’s Pick: ††† (Crosses), “Invisible Hand”

Nine years after Deftones leader Chino Moreno and producer/multi-instrumentalist Shaun Lopez released Crosses, the debut album of their project †††, we’re finally getting a proper follow-up — Goodnight, God Bless, I Love U, Delete. will be released Oct. 13 and feature guest spots from Robert Smith and El-P. Their official return as a duo is cause for excitement in the hard rock world, and lead single “Invisible Hand” is only going to heighten expectations for the rest of the album: the track locks in on a blindingly bright electro-rock groove before jerking the listener in different directions, and Moreno’s voice, driving and emotive as ever, serves as a guide to each pivot.

How Messi’s Miami Arrival Gave La Mosca’s ‘Muchachos’ New Life

Lionel Messi’s march toward MLS dominance continued with Inter Miami’s win over Orlando Wednesday (Aug. 2), with the Argentine star scoring two goals for a total of 812 over his career to date.

And every time Messi scores, fans hear the strains of “Muchachos, ahora nos volvimos a ilusionar” (which translates loosely to: “Boys, Now We’re Full of Excitement Again.”) The song, by ska/fusion Argentine big band La Mosca, was already a fan favorite in Argentina pre-World Cup. But it became a global hit during the World Cup last year after Messi said in an interview that it was his favorite World Cup song. Now, with the arrival of Messi to Inter Miami in July, it’s again capturing international attention.

Since last month, “Muchachos” has been the theme of a national Lay’s campaign titled “Goats for Messi”. In the hilarious spot, a goat farmer welcomes Messi to Inter Miami as the “Greatest of All Time,” or “G.O.A.T.” Then, the farmer’s goats (807 of them, representing the 807 goals Messi had scored up to that point), are shepherded to create an image of Messi’s face on the grass. The song is also being used in Inter’s own campaign as well as in Adidas’ new campaign for Messi-branded apparel. Further, an updated version of Messi 10, the Messi-inspired Cirque du Soleil spectacle, will feature a scene in which the soccer star lifts his World Cup trophy to the tune of “Muchachos.”

“What’s happened with ‘Muchachos’ was global. But post-World Cup, Messi signed with Inter and thank God people continue to pair the song with Messi,” says La Mosca’s longtime manager, Santiago Ruiz. “What I’ve done is make big deals with well-known brands to keep the song alive. Fortunately, ‘Muchachos’ still goes along with Messi, and luckily brands continue associating the song with him.”

Ruiz, who has managed the band via his own Nacho Producciones since the launch of its career over two decades ago, was the first to see a glimmer of possibility in the track.

Back in 2021, while watching the Argentine national team play Copa América on TV, he saw a group of fans singing to the tune of “Muchachos” but with different lyrics.

The original La Mosca song, a kind of ska/tango released in 2010, was titled “Muchachos, esta noche me emborracho” (“Boys, Tonight I’ll Get Drunk”), and it dealt with lost love. A hit in Argentina, it had been adopted by fans as a soccer anthem, but with new lyrics penned by a fan that alluded specifically to the Argentine soccer team and national pride: “In Argentina I was born/Land of Diego and Lionel/Of the boys from Malvines/ who I’ll never forget,” the opening line goes. “I can’t explain/Because you’ll never understand/The finals we lost/How many years I cried.”

Ruiz was struck by the lyrics, but also by fans’ reaction — as the song was sung organically in stadiums each time the team played.

“I thought, we need to find the person who wrote the lyrics, show it to the band and convince them to re-record the song,” he says. It was an unorthodox proposal, but La Mosca indeed re-recorded the new “Muchachos” as if it were a brand new song, with a new title, and adding the fan who wrote the new lyrics — Fernando Romero — as a co-writer alongside original writers and La Mosca members Guillermo Novelis (the band’s lead singer) and Sergio Cairat.

“Muchachos” was quickly adopted by team Argentina and became a local smash. But once Argentina began winning matches in the World Cup, its popularity really skyrocketed — all the way to the 2022 final in Qatar, where Messi held up the trophy as the song played.

“It was epic,” laughs Ruiz. “Truly the cherry on the cake.”

Argentina’s World Cup win gave “Muchachos” another hefty lift. The song soared to No. 1 on the Billboard Argentina Hot 100 chart in December 2022. That same month, it also entered Billboard’s Global Excl. U.S. chart at No. 132 — a first for La Mosca on the tally — as well as the Latin Digital Songs chart at No. 9.

Released as a World Cup single for La Mosca under their new recording deal with Sony Music, “Muchachos” was supposed to be fleeting. The group already had a new album featuring new versions of their greatest hits ready for release. But the success of “Muchachos” pushed back the release date of the album to this fall. A first album single is slated to drop Aug. 18, but in the meantime, “Muchachos” just keeps on playing.

In addition to many local deals in Argentina, Ruiz has recently closed international campaigns for the song, including Lay’s in the United States and Adidas globally — the latter of which will run for six months.

At a more local level, La Mosca recorded a new version of the song for the Messi presentation with Inter last month in Miami — specifically for that moment — and distributed pamphlets with the lyrics so fans could sing along.

Now, says Ruiz, the idea is to use the new exposure to promote an upcoming La Mosca tour.

“To come to the U.S. hand in hand with this icon [Messi] has lengthened and magnified the song and puts us again on the map,” he says. “I’ve managed La Mosca for over 25 years. I got them their first record deal. This song has made us No. 1 on the charts, it’s raised our prestige, it’s opened the doors to new festivals and places we hadn’t been to in years. We have nothing but gratitude because we’ve been able to take our Argentine flag around the world.”

The Nine Best Moments From Taylor Swift’s First Night in Los Angeles on Her Eras Tour

At long last, Taylor Swift has arrived in Los Angeles for the final stop of her U.S. tour — or so fans thought.

Earlier on Thursday, August 3 — hours before the superstar would take the stage at SoFi Stadium — she announced a second leg of North American dates for 2024. The new dates include stops in Miami, New Orleans, Indianapolis and Toronto. “Turns out it’s NOT the end of an era,” Swift wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter).

And as she made perfectly clear on the first of her six-night run in L.A., slowing down is simply not in the cards. Neither is performing the same show night after night, as evidenced by the addition of two surprise songs to each set list, which Swift says is a fun way to challenge herself to dig deep into her extensive catalog — while also keeping fans on their toes, creating a sort of “gotta catch ’em all” energy.

But on Thursday, there was an even greater buzz radiating throughout the packed stadium as 70,000 fans poured in, many of whom were eagerly discussing rumors that Selena Gomez may make an appearance or that the next Taylor’s Version could be announced on this very night.

That’s the thing about the Eras Tour: it’s safe to expect the unexpected.

As it turns out, neither rumor was true. And yet, Swift’s opening night was nothing short of magical and filled with firsts, like having never performed at SoFi before or selecting a surprise song that she has never played live. And thankfully, it was all captured by a cameraman following her every move on stage, filming for something, as Swift managed to kick her power and poise into an even higher gear.

The night also included stellar opening sets from Gracie Abrams, who will join Swift on her 2024 dates, and HAIM. Of the sister trio, Swift said: “Not only are these three individuals my besties, but they’re my favorite band,” also noting it was a hometown show for the rockers.

“We have a lot to catch up on, musically speaking,” Swift said later on. “I haven’t toured in five years before the Eras Tour; This is the last city on the U.S. leg and we knew we wanted to end someplace special.”

And that is was. Below are the best moments from Swift’s opening night in L.A.

“I see it written on your face, yeah/ I know you want a little taste, yeah/ You know I’ll put you in your place/ You’re crawling on the floor/ Begging me for more, ooh/ I’m sicker than the flu/ Come put me in the mood/ My body touching you, do you like that?/ Ooh, just watch the way I move,” Lovato belts on the sultry, rock-tinged track.

Lovato joins a string of “Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s Wife” remixes, following Rina Sawayama’s version released on July 28, and UPSAHL’s on July 14. “Eve, Psyche & The Bluebeard’s Wife” is the second single from LE SSERAFIM’s first studio album, Unforgiven. The track peaked at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs chart dated June 3, while the album it’s on peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200.

Halle Bailey Unveils Debut Solo Single ‘Angel’: Stream It Now

After conquering the seven seas as Princess Ariel in the live-action remake of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Halle Bailey is ready to make her formal solo debut. “Angel,” the official debut solo single from Halle, has arrived. “Black girl with the Black girl hair,” she croons over a plaintive piano-backed arrangement.

Halle posted a teaser for “Angel” to her YouTube channel and social media on Monday (July 31). The short clip featured a montage of childhood home videos and clips of recent solo performances set to the track’s instrumental. The teaser closed with the quote, “Angels make a way somehow.”

While this is Halle’s formal solo debut, she lent her gorgeous voice to the soundtrack for The Little Mermaid (2023), which topped Top Soundtracks and peaked at No. 21 on the Billboard 200. She delivered a stunning rendition of the classic “Part of Your World,” which topped out at No. 19 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100, as well as the new original song “For the First Time,” which made Billboard’s ranking of the 50 best songs of 2023 so far.

As a member of the five-time Grammy-nominated R&B duo Chloe x Halle, Halle has earned earned two entries on the Billboard 200: 2018’s The Kids Are Alright (No. 139) and 2020’s Ungodly Hour (No. 16). The duo has also earned one entry on the Billboard Hot 100: “Do It” (No. 63), the lead single from Ungodly Hour.

2023 has been a banner year for Bailey. In addition to starring in The Little Mermaid, which grossed more than $118 million during its opening weekend, Bailey is also set to star in another movie musical later this year: Blitz Bazawule’s The Color Purple, which is scheduled to hit theaters on Christmas Day.

Doja Cat Launches New Single ‘Paint The Town Red’: Stream It Now

After kickstarting her new era with “Attention,” Doja Cat has unleashed her latest single: “Paint The Town Red.” The new single from the “Need to Know” rapper is available on all streaming and digital download platforms.

“B—h, I said what I said / I’d rather be famous instead / I let all that get to my head / I don’t care I paint the town red,” the Grammy-winner raps over a subtly brassy, finger snap-laden beat. The bouncy production provides an interesting contrast to the comparatively laid-back “Attention,” which peaked at No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100 last month.

While the title of Doja’s upcoming fourth studio album is still a mystery, she has given fans a slew of clues about the aesthetic of her new record, from the blood-stained designs of her teaser videos to the horror vibes of the official music video for “Attention.” The new record will serve as the official full-length follow-up to Planet Her, Doja’s smash third studio album, which spawned a bevy of hits including “Kiss Me More” (with SZA), “Get Into It (Yuh),” and “You Right” (with The Weeknd).

In the time since her last studio album, the “Say So” rapper has remained musically active. Last year, she scored a top ten hit with “Vegas,” the lead single from the Elvis soundtrack, and she guested on a remix of SZA’s “Kill Bill,” which helped lift the song to its No. 1 peak on the Hot 100.

Doja Cat has earned 22 entries on the Hot 100, including “Need to Know” (No. 8), “Woman” (No. 7), and the No. 1-peaking “Say So” (with Nicki Minaj). On the Billboard 200, the cross-genre star has notched three entries: 2018’s Amala (No. 138), 2019’s Hot Pink (No. 9), and 2021’s Planet Her (No. 2).
