Top-Grossing Country Artists of All Time, According to Billboard Boxscore

For nearly four decades, Billboard Boxscore has tracked the top tours, and touring artists, in the music industry, across various musical genres.

The 2023 Billboard Boxscore Mid-Year report, which was led by pop star Harry Styles, whose Love on Tour trek grossed $138.6 million and sold 1.2 million tickets across 38 shows between Nov. 1, 2022, and April 30, 2023. But the mid-year report also included top tours from country artists Luke Combs, Morgan Wallen and Carrie Underwood.

Here, we look into the 20 top-grossing country touring artists of all time, according to Billboard Boxscore. The rankings are based on figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, dating back to 1985 and running through Aug. 16, 2023. An artist’s gross reflects all headline shows plus 50% of any co-headline grosses.

The list includes touring juggernauts ranging from George Strait and Garth Brooks to Shania Twain and Taylor Swift.

One key thing to note is that Garth Brooks’s most recent tours were not reported to Boxscore, including The Garth Brooks World Tour (2014-2017) and The Garth Brooks Stadium Tour (2018-2022). Billboard estimates Brooks would likely be within the top three top-grossing country artists of all time if those tour numbers were included; as it stands without those tour numbers, he ranks at No. 13 on the list.

Also, Taylor Swift’s ranking includes all of Swift’s touring from her 2009-2010 The Fearless Tour, through the 2013-2014 The Red Tour, but not tours after she officially announced her transition to pop in 2014 (including 2015’s The 1989 World Tour, 2018’s Reputation Stadium Tour and her current The Eras Tour).

According to Billboard Boxscore, all of these artists have grossed $100 million or more.

Blueface is apparently down but not for the count. The rapper was reportedly stabbed during an altercation at a boxing gym.

As spotted on Deadline the rapper has been training for an upcoming boxing match. On Wednesday, August 24 while practicing on the heavy bag at Kaminsky Boxing Gym in Reseda, California he was approached by a man unknown to him. The security camera at the facility captured the incident and showed the individual approaching the “Hello” rapper with combative energy. It seems Blueface was not taking him seriously until said man stayed in front of him prompting the self proclaimed Dirt Bag to throw hands.

After taking some punches the man reached into his pocket and pulls out what appears to be a knife. While the video does not show the stabbing, Blueface confirmed that he got cut on his Instagram. “I won’t be able to fight October 14th, I was stabbed today by some random guy. Won’t heal up in time.” His trainer David Kaminsky told TMZ that the suspect came into the gym yelling, “I’m gonna kill you.” The man is reported to have left the scene in a black Tesla Model S car with no license plates. Blueface was taken to a local medical facility for treatment.

The Met has announced a new upcoming exhibit and has engaged HBCUs to lend precious artwork and other assistance for it.

According to the New York Times, the museum announced in a press release that it would be putting on a new exhibition, The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism. The exhibit will feature artwork from the private collections of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Those institutions include the Howard University Gallery of Art, the Clark Atlanta University Art Museum, Fisk University Galleries, and Hampton University Art Museum.

The exhibition will feature works from the period’s vaunted artists and writers including C, Aaron Douglas, Meta Warrick Fuller, William H. Johnson, Charles Alston, Archibald Motley, Winold Reiss, Augusta Savage, James Van Der Zee, and Laura Wheeler Waring.

Other institutions that will lend artwork to the exhibit include the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the National Portrait Gallery in addition to other European collections and private lenders. In addition, the Schomburg Center for Research and Black Culture is poised to make a loan to The Met. Additional financial funding will also be supplied by the aforementioned HBCUs.

The exhibit, composed of 160 works that include paintings, film, sculptures, and photographs, “will explore the comprehensive and far-reaching ways in which Black artists portrayed everyday modern life in the new Black cities that took shape in the 1920s–40s in New York City’s Harlem and nationwide in the early decades of the Great Migration when millions of African Americans began to move away from the segregated rural South” according to the release.

The Met said that this exhibition will be the “first art museum survey of the subject” in New York City in over 40 years. For curator Denise Murrell, the exhibit is the realization of a longtime dream of hers to celebrate the “radical modernity” of the Harlem Renaissance. “In terms of historical context, this is the first time in art history where we have a cohort of African American artists depicting modern Black life in a modern way,” she said.

The Harlem Renaissance and Transatlantic Modernism will make its debut on February 25th, 2024, and run until July 28th, 2024.

Jhene Aiko and Big Sean have asked for court-ordered protection from a creepy fan they say keeps showing up to their concerts, events and home.

According to TMZ, the superstar couple were initially denied their request for a Temporary Restraining Order against a man named  Ian Craig Lees who allegedly snuck onto the couple’s Pacific Palisades property.

A new hearing has been set for Sept. 14.

TMZ obtained court documents which state that despite being a total stranger, Lees seems determined to make contact with her … and now Aiko says she fears for her life.

She alleges that Lees has been attending her shows and events and that things reached a boiling point earlier this month when he allegedly got into a physical altercation with the residential security in her neighborhood.

Per TMZ, Aiko claims the guy’s been going to her shows and events, and things reached a head earlier this month when he allegedly got into a physical altercation with the residential security in her neighborhood.

The singer is mother to two children, Namiko, 14, and a son with Big Sean, Noah, who was born last November.

Carlos Santana Says Transgender People Should Stay ‘in the Closet’ in Concert Clip

While he may be best known for being “Smooth,” legendary guitarist Carlos Santana recently shared some comments about the trans community that left a bad taste in some people’s mouths.

A clip began circulating online recently of Santana performing in Atlantic City, N.J., in late July, where the star stopped during his show to share his thoughts on the transgender experience itself. “When God made you and me, before we came out of the womb, you know who you are and what you are,” he said. “Later on, when you grow out of it, you see things, and you start believing that you could be something that sounds good, but you know it ain’t right.”

The guitarist then took his comments a step further, making a commonly disputed claim that there are only two genders. “Because a woman is a woman and a man is a man — that’s it,” he said. “Whatever you wanna do in the closet, that’s your business. I’m OK with that.”

Santana also gave a shoutout to comedian Dave Chappelle — who has also been criticized in recent years for making anti-trans comments during his stand-up routine — by bringing his hands together and saying, “I am like this with my brother Dave Chappelle.”

In a statement provided to Billboard, Santana clarified his respect for individuals’ opinions, without specifically walking his comments back. “Here is my personal goal that I strive to achieve every day. I want to honor and respect all person’s ideals and beliefs whether they are LGBTQ or not,” he wrote. “This is the planet of free will and we have all been given this gift. I will now pursue this goal to be happy and have fun, and for everyone to believe what they want and follow in your hearts without fear. It takes courage to grow and glow in the light that you are and to be true, genuine, and authentic. We grow and learn to shine our light with Love and compliments. Have a glorious existence. Peace.”

The star’s comments come amid a wave of anti-trans legislation in the U.S., specifically targeted at restricting gender-affirming care for trans youth. While right-wing politicians claim that the risks of this kind of care do not outweigh the benefits, peer-reviewed research disagrees. Multiple studies show that gender-affirming care reduces the rates of depression and suicidality among transgender kids.

The “Black Magic Woman” performer isn’t the only person to come out with anti-trans comments recently. In an interview with Stereogum published Aug. 23, Alice Cooper called gender-affirming care “a fad,” and claimed that discourse surrounding the trans community has “gone now to the point of absurdity.”
