All of J. Cole’s 2023 Features Ranked

Earlier this year, J. Cole made his intentions loud and clear on Lil Durk’s “All My Life”: “Lately, I just wanna show up and body some sh-t.” To his credit, Cole has been living up to his word, treating the rap circuit like a demolition derby.

A proven features savant, this is familiar territory for the Dreamville commander, who had a torrid run in 2018 with his sea of verses. Slinging out gusty bars for 21 Savage’s Grammy-Winning song “a lot,” 6LACK’s “Pretty Little Fears,” and Wale’s “My Boy,” Cole’s penchant for destruction stems from his competitive edge. Since his early mixtape days in the late 2000s, Cole has always used guest appearances or freestyles as target practice and a way to improve.

More than 15 years later, he continues to employ that same system as he readies his upcoming release, It’s A Boy, the follow-up to his 2021 Billboard 200 chart-topper The Off-Season. He’s already made a trio of Billboard Hot 100 appearances this year, on songs alongside R&B star Summer Walker, BTS alum J-Hope and rap hitmaker Lil Durk. The latter teamup, “All My Life,” proved to be an immediate smash, debuting at No. 2 on the Hot 100 in May — tying “My Life,” his 2021 single alongside Morray and 21 Savage, for the highest peak Cole has yet reached on the chart — and still hanging strong in the top 15 three months later.

Below, Billboard ranked Cole’s best 2023 features, including the two he dropped today with Gucci Mane and Burna Boy.

SZA Snuggles With Justin Bieber, Benny Blanco & More in New ‘Snooze’ Video

SZA rounded up some of the hottest male stars for her new music video for “Snooze” released on Friday (Aug. 25).

In the sultry Bradley J. Calder and SZA-directed clip, the superstar lays in the grass, rolls a joint in bed, plays video games and more with co-stars Justin Bieber, Benny Blanco, Beef actor Young Mazino and Power Book II: Ghost star Woody McClain.

“Snooze,” which was featured on SZA’s groundbreaking sophomore album, S.O.S., notched the singer her second No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart as “Snooze” topped the list dated July 1. “Snooze” likewise is SZA’s second career champ on Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay. She first led with the two-week No. 1 “Shirt” in February.

Upon its release back in December, S.O.S. immediately debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, her first chart-topper. With more than 400 million streams in the U.S. during release week, S.O.S. became the second-largest streaming week for a female artist and third-largest of 2022 among all albums.

The album enjoyed a non-consecutive 10-week run atop the Billboard 200, and in the middle of that stretch, she kicked off the aptly titled SOS Tour, in which SZA took over arenas across the country. According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, the SOS Tour grossed $34.5 million and sold 238,000 tickets.

Nicki Minaj Swatting Suspect Allegedly Sought Out For Arrest

Nicki Minaj is in a lighter mood as she’s announced that someone who swatted her home now has a warrant out for their arrest.

According to reports, the Pinkprint rapper relayed the news to her fans in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Wednesday (Aug. 23). “Stephanie Bell,” Minaj wrote, naming the alleged troll. “A warrant is in the system. Great detective work. So grateful. The DA filed one count for the swatting call and one for the false report to DCFS. To God be the glory.”

Law enforcement officials did confirm that Bell is wanted for arrest on two charges of deliberately reporting a false emergency. The rapper had made another post on X earlier in the day, clowning the person: “To the woman who made those swatting calls to my home…#WasItWorthItDumbo ?”

The person allegedly identified as Stephanie Bell is accused of being responsible for the call made to 911 in July that claimed that someone had been shot at Minaj’s home in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The call led to police officers swarming her residence, ultimately determining that it was a false alarm. Prior to that, there was a call made to 911 the month before claiming that there was child abuse going on in the household, with the individual even going as far as to contact child services. The police were then tasked by policy to speak with the 40-year-old music artist and her husband, Kenneth Petty, and determined that there was no evidence of any abuse.

The rivalry between fans of Nicki Minaj and fans of Cardi B has fueled some of the animosity in the air leading to these incidents. Online fans of the “Bardi Gang” have gone to such lengths as creating and circulating a fake petition on Change.org targeting Petty and claiming that neighbors wanted him out.

Things aren’t looking good for rappers Polo G and Trench Baby as authorities executed a search warrant and uncovered some pretty damaging evidence that could put them behind bars for quite some time.

According to Deadline, police arrested both Polo G and Baby Trench after executing a raid on Trench’s Chatsworth, Calif. mansion Wednesday (Aug. 23). What authorities ended up discovering on the premises was a illegal short-barrel rifle for which Polo G (whose real name is Taurus Bartlett) was taken into custody. His younger brother, Baby Trench (Taurean Bartlett), was also taken into custody as he was wanted for a robbery he allegedly took part in.

Deadline reports:

Trench Baby was released late Wednesday after posting $100,000 bail. Polo G was released on his own recognizance, according to Los Angeles County jail records.

Trench Baby has a Sept. 13 court date. Polo G is scheduled to appear on Sept. 12.

Polo G is represented by attorney Bradford Cohen, who has represented rappers Draze, Lil Wayne and Kodak Black. It is unclear who represents Trench Baby.

Taurus Bartlett, performing as Polo G, is a Columbia Records artist. His 2019 debut, “Die a Legend,” went double-platinum. The following year, his second album, “Goat,” had 10 songs chart in Billboard’s Hot 100.

No word on what kind of time the two men are facing, but expect Polo and Baby Trench to speak on the situation in their music in the near future.

What do y’all think of their situation? Sound off in the comments section below.

Meek Mill likes to keep clean feets but won’t drop a big bag on them. He revealed the most he ever spent on sneaker was about $5,000.

As spotted on HipHopDX the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native recently attended the New York Got Sole sneaker conference. While making his rounds at the event he conducted a brief interview on his sneaker history, likes and dislikes. When asked what is the most he has ever spent on a sneaker he explained he isn’t reckless with his money when it comes to footwear. “I think like $5,000,” Meek Mill responded.  “Only one time. My style is not spending a lot. The way I am I might buy a new pair of sneaks — I will ride an ATV in a pair of Louis Air Forces the first day.”

Later on while browsing through Nike Dunks he doubled down on his earlier statement saying “I buy good sneaks but I just don’t buy the super expensive good ones.” He was also asked his opinion on the best sneaker of all time the “Dreams and Nightmares” rapper had a very hot take for a response. “The Charles Barkley (Nike Air Max CB 94)” he replied. When asked for what model he went with the OG Pure Purple colorway saying “that’s my favorite sneaker of all time.”  Moments later he found that exact same shoe on a table and paid $250 for a 10.5 size.

Billie Eilish Attends Jesse Rutherford’s Listening Party Following Breakup

When Billie Eilish‘s rep told Page Six earlier this year that she and Jesse Rutherford had “split amicably and remain good friends,” they really meant it. The 21-year-old pop star showed her support for her ex-boyfriend at his recent listening party, as captured in photos and video shared by the Neighbourhood frontman on Instagram.

In a video taken at the bowling alley party, the former couple danced together to one of Rutherford’s new songs, one of 11 on his Aug. 18 solo album &ONE. The track, “TURN HEEL,” features a callout to his ex-girlfriend-turned-pal — “I just got a text from Billie” — which Eilish proudly sings in the clip.

Eilish was also tagged by the 32-year-old rocker in a photo from the night, smiling next to a friend holding a balloon animal. “best listening party ever,” Rutherford captioned his Thursday (Aug. 24) post.

Although Rutherford just posted the pictures, the listening party actually took place closer to &ONE‘s release earlier in the month. Eilish shared a couple snaps from the night on Instagram Aug. 14, and a photo of her at the event started circulating on Twitter a couple days prior.

The ex-couple’s platonic hangout comes shortly after she assured followers in an Instagram Stories Q&A that she and Rutherford — who dated for about seven months before calling it quits in May — were “Very very good friends only. My homie forever.” The “Bad Guy” singer also recently gave a shoutout to his band’s 2015 album Wiped Out! in an interview about her favorite records with Dua Lipa.

Before their split, Eilish and Rutherford’s romance caused a bit of stir thanks to the pair’s 11-year age gap — something they themselves seemed to poke fun at last year with a divisive couple’s Halloween costume, for which the younger star dressed up as a baby and Rutherford an old man. The controversy was reignited earlier this month when fans thought Rutherford was speaking on his relationship with Eilish in another one of his new songs, “POV,” with lyrics deemed inappropriate by some listeners: “She been listening to me since 2013/ I know she’s got daddy issues, welcome to the family/ She said, ‘Jesse, baby, won’t you write a song about me?’/ I said, ‘I got a whole album, I could drop it next week.’”

Rick Ross Subject Of Georgia State University Law Class

Rick Ross Live Performance Party at VIP Room Saint Tropez

Rick Ross is a study of how hard work truly pays off along with making smart choices with one’s investments. The Miami rapper will be the subject of a law class that will examine his varying business interests, music career, and more.

The Miami Herald turned its focus on Moraima Ivory, who is the professor of practice and director of the Entertainment, Sports & Media Law Initiative at the George State University’s College of Law in Atlanta. Professor Ivory’s angle is to open each session of class with a notable Rick Ross track before delving into the many business interests of the man behind the music and image.

“You get an opportunity to see how he has built this empire that he has amassed,” Ivory said to the Herald. “Whether it’s in music, real estate, in brand partnerships, equity, positioning — he has done it.”

Ivory’s class is titled the “Legal Life of Rick Ross, and will look at Ricky Rozay’s early grind, the onset of his success, and how his business savvy culminated in his Maybach Music Group record label. Ross is also slated to appear in Ivory’s class at some point during the semester, as noted in the Herald’s report.

In the statement shared by the outlet, Ross laid out his aims in contributing to Ivory’s class.

“The ‘Biggest’ meets the classroom. I’ve always been a student of the game, and I look forward to being able to teach the next generation how to keep hustlin’,” Ross shared. The rapper is the fourth celebrity figure centered in Ivory’s “Legal Life Of “series with Ludacris, Kandi Burruss, and Steve Harvey previously featured.

“People have a perception that hip-hop is one big party and they really dismiss the business and the legal aspect of what goes on in the person’s career,” Ivory said. “There’s no way that these figures — the ones that I studied or anybody for that matter that’s in this career — doesn’t have to learn how to become a businessperson separate from their creativity.”

On its surface, the class might ring as a clever tactic to attract students to sessions but Ivory, a Bronx native, sees a greater impact behind her study and work, especially during the 50th anniversary of Hip-Hop underway.

Sabrina Carpenter Makes Eras Tour Debut, Covers Selena’s ‘Dreaming of You’ in Mexico City: Watch

Sabrina Carpenter made her Eras Tour debut Thursday night (Aug. 24) in Mexico City, an opening performance for Taylor Swift she christened with a cover of one of the most famous Mexican-American artists of all time: Selena Quintanilla.

Performing in front of thousands of fans at Foro Sol, the first of four stops Swift has planned for the venue, Carpenter looked sparklingly confident running through her setlist of Emails I Can’t Send tracks, including Billboard Hot 100 hit “Nonsense,” “Read your Mind” and deluxe track “Feather.” Known for improvising a new “Nonsense” outro at her concerts, the 24-year-old rising pop star quipped, “If you are a Swiftie you’re mi gente. Let me hear make some noise DF.”

Before Swift came out for her three-hour performance, Carpenter also squeezed in a cover of “Dreaming of You,” Selena’s 1995 hit. “There’s nowhere in the world I’d rather be/ Than here in my room
dreaming about you and me,” the former Disney star sang as her audience cheered her on.

Thursday night’s show kicks off more than a year of international dates Swift has planned for her blockbuster Eras Tour run, with Carpenter slated to open for all of the upcoming shows in Latin America, Australia and Singapore. Paramore will then take over as the support act for the “Anti-Hero” singer’s dates in Europe, after which seasoned Eras Tour veteran Gracie Abrams will return for a second U.S. run.

Carpenter’s kickoff show follows her global Emails I Can’t Send Tour, which began in September 2022, a few months after the release of the musician’s top 40 album of the same name. It also comes on the heels of her newest release, a remix of Fifty Fifty’s “Cupid,” which arrived last week.
