“First off by like respecting her position, right?” Offset told host Alex Cooper of his process of healing his relationship. “We’re both public figures, we’re both in the eyes of people. Stop being selfish. You’re married to this woman, be dedicated to this woman. And also, just like being more communicative about s—. Like, we just talk more and, because, you know, work was getting in the way, sometimes and it was like, [phew] and we would talk all the time but communication is key. If you don’t like some s—, tell me, and if I don’t like some s—, I’ll tell you. We talk and communication is key. Not communicating f—s s— up.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Offset sweetly shared the qualities that drew him to the Bronx rapper in the first place. “I had seen her online, and I just loved the way how raw she was and how confident she was,” he shared. “She didn’t give a f— what nobody thought, nobody think, nothin’. And it’s just like damn, that’s fire. Funny, great personality, from what I could see, you know I’m saying? Like that’s a funny girl, she’s a cool girl, and then I shot my shot and I swished it.”

Back in 2017, just two months after Offset proposed to Cardi, a video surfaced of what appeared to be Offset with another naked woman in a hotel. The Migos rapper reportedly claimed that his iCloud was hacked. Days later, a model named Celine Powell claimed to be pregnant with Offset’s baby.

A few months later, in April 2018, Cardi opened up about her situation with Offset with Cosmopolitan. “It’s like everybody is coming down my neck like, ‘Why are you not leaving him? You have low self-esteem.’ I don’t have low self-esteem … I know I look good,” Cardi said in the interview. “I know I’m rich, I know I’m talented. I know I could get any man I want — any basketball player, football player. But I want to work out my s–t with my man, and I don’t got to explain why. I’m not your property. This is my life … I’m going to take my time, and I’m going to decide on my decision … it’s not right, what he f–king did — but people don’t know what I did, ’cause I ain’t no angel.” She wrapped up with a hilarious question for her haters: “Since when are all these women dating pastors and deacons?”

Israel’s Concert Business Stops for War. What Comes After?

In the wake of the deadliest terrorist attack in Israel’s history, as well as the prospect of a deadly, drawn-out war against Hamas in Gaza, the country’s fast-growing concert business has hardly been at the top of anyone’s mind.

So far, the only big show to be cancelled was the sold-out Bruno Mars concert scheduled for Oct. 7 in Tel Aviv. But concerts and festivals now face a pause as Israel mourns its dead, including the more than 250 people who died at the Supernova Sukkot festival in the Oct. 7 attack. For however long the war in Gaza takes, it is unlikely that many major international acts will play Tel Aviv out of security concerns, worries about the optics of taking a side on a controversial issue, and the fact that so many potential concertgoers will be fighting or working in the military. However, the country’s entertainment market is expected to make a quick recovery once hostilities end thanks to companies like Bluestone Entertainment, which has made considerable progress modernizing Israel’s concert industry over the past six years.

Up until the Oct. 7 attack, security issues didn’t even make the top five challenges facing the Israeli concert business, sources tell Billboard. Bigger issues include a lack of touring infrastructure, geographic isolation, routing difficulties, limits on potential artist earnings and the Boycott Divest, Sanction (BDS) movement that pushes artists not to play in the Jewish state.

Until 2017, the only modern ticketing platform in Israel was the German company CTS Eventim, which dominates Europe but isn’t as well known to U.S. touring artists and managers. Israel also lacks a major venue for large acts, meaning most touring artists have to rely on 5,000-7,000 capacity amphitheaters — which can make it difficult to make money due to the high travel costs required to visit the country. Travel also complicates logistics, since it’s easy to fly into Israel but, until 2020, it was hard to fly on from there. Since then, flights have been added to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the next major concert market, as well as an international flight hub.

The 2014 formation of Bluestone Entertainment, as well as its 2017 purchase by Live Nation, modernized the country’s touring infrastructure and earned it a stamp of approval from the concert giant as one of 29 markets where Live Nation maintains offices and on-the-ground staff. Leading the company today is CEO Guy Besar, a 46-year-old native of Israel’s Rishon Lezion who got his start working at student events for the city’s College of Management Academic Studies, along with co-founders Shay Mor Yosef and Gadi Veinrib. Music manager Guy Oseary, whose clients include Madonna and, until recently, U2, is the fourth co-founder of Bluestone.

Bluestone has been successful in pushing back against BDS activist groups like the Palestinian Campaign for Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI) and artists like Roger Waters, who convinced Elvis Costello, Devendra Banhart and Gorillaz to cancel planned visits to the country in 2010. Oseary has worked with artist managers to develop a communications and messaging strategy before announcing shows in the country.

Bluestone also played a key role in bringing Ticketmaster to Israel as part of its 2017 joint venture with Live Nation and has focused its efforts on modernizing and bringing shows to HaYarkon Park in Tel Aviv, an urban park and summer concert destination that can host concerts for up to 70,000 attendees per night. That led to a $6.7 million gross for Guns N’ Roses‘ June 5 concert at HaYarkon, $6.6 million for Imagine Dragons on Aug. 29 and a whopping $11.7 million for two Maroon 5 concerts in May 2022.

Those seven-and-eight-figure grosses have helped offset the expenses associated with performing in Israel, while a 2020 agreement with the UAE and Bahrain known as the Abraham Accords has led to the normalization of relations between the three countries. The treaty, negotiated by the Trump administration, also allows air travel between the three countries via Saudi Arabian airspace. That means that once in the UAE, touring shows can easily fly to markets like Malaysia, Singapore and much of Southeast Asia.

Bluestone was reportedly on track to generate $75 million in 2023, a number that will likely drop following the cancellation of Mars’ Oct. 7 concert. But it will likely still be up nearly 50% percent from 2022 when the company brought in $46 million. As for the security threat that caused the cancellation, sources say that despite the surprising nature of the Oct. 7 attacks, Israel deploys significant resources to securing events and large crowds and note that concert promoters in the country feel extremely confident in their ability to secure A-list artists and visitors for concerts.

Clive Davis Condemns Hamas Attack: ‘I Support Israel’s Right to Eradicate Terrorism’

Legendary music executive Clive Davis has spoken out on the devastating terrorist attack by Hamas militants in Israel earlier this month.

On Tuesday (Oct. 17), the Arista Records founder who had a hand in the careers of Whitney Houston, Patti Smith and Barry Manilow, among many others, posted a message to social media stating, “I wholeheartedly oppose the murderous hate displayed by Hamas on the people of Israel and I support Israel’s right to eradicate terrorism.”

Davis, who is Jewish, calls the violence perpetrated by Hamas in Israel on Oct. 7, which killed more than 1,300 Israelis (including 260 at the Supernova Sukkot dance music festival in Re’im), “very, very personal and tragic for me. I have experienced the extraordinary pain of antisemitism my entire life.”

“We are witnessing a truly dreadful human tragedy unfold before our eyes in the Middle East… Thousands of innocent people were ruthlessly murdered — many at a music festival, many so young — and I fear many more will die in the weeks to come,” Davis continued.

Though Davis does not directly address the Israeli government’s retaliatory siege of Gaza — which has so far killed more than 3,000 Palestinians in air strikes, according to authorities there — he ends his post with a call for “our leaders to seriously consider humanitarian rights and the preservation of innocent life in the days ahead.”

Now 91, Davis was born to Jewish parents in Brooklyn in 1932. He has been a longtime supporter of the nonprofit UJA-Federation, which has a stated mission to “care for Jews everywhere and New Yorkers of all backgrounds, respond to crises close to home and far away, and shape our Jewish future.” The organization honored Davis with its Music Visionary of the Year award in 2007.

Davis currently serves as chief creative officer at Sony Music.

Taylor Swift’s Catalog Up Over 20% Following ‘Eras Tour’ Film Release

Welcome to Billboard Pro’s Trending Up column, where we take a closer look at the songs, artists, curiosities and trends that have caught the music industry’s attention. Some have come out of nowhere, others have taken months to catch on, and all of them could become ubiquitous in the blink of a TikTok clip.

This week: Taylor Swift’s blockbuster-debuting
Eras Tour documentary spurs yet another bump for her entire catalog, while a pair of TikTok hits take off in JaidynAlexis’ “Barbie” (not from THAT Barbie) and Aliyah’s Interlude’s (not THAT Aaliyah) “It Girl.”

Fun Autumn: Eras Concert Film Boosts Taylor Swift’s Streaming Catalog by Over 20%

The wins keep accumulating for Taylor Swift following the global release of her The Eras Tour concert film last Friday (Oct. 13). With $92.8 million grossed in North America in its opening weekend and $30.7 million internationally, The Eras Tour scored the biggest box office debut for a concert film ever. And in the process of bringing out Swifties to experience the career-spanning stadium show, the movie also gave their favorite superstar’s catalog a sizable streaming and sales boost as fans listened to their favorite songs before and after hitting the multiplex.

During the first four days of the film’s release (Oct. 13-16), Swift’s catalog earned a combined 207.9 million on-demand U.S. streams — a 22.2% increase in streams over the previous Friday-to-Monday tracking period (170.1 million streams), according to Luminate. Meanwhile, Swift’s digital sales more than doubled between those four-day periods, from 15,400 over Oct. 6-9 to 38,400 over Oct. 13-16. Perhaps the most valuable catalog boost is still a few days away, though: “Cruel Summer,” which has been lingering in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 for months following its viral resurgence, could finally hit No. 1 on the chart next week. – JASON LIPSHUTZ

The Year of Barbie Rages On With JaidynAlexis’ New Streaming Smash

https://youtube.com/watch?v=tNVXm3XCcak&version=3&rel=1&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&fs=1&hl=en-US&autohide=2&wmode=transparent

Greta Gerwig’s wildly successful Barbie movie may have already danced to one billion dollars at the worldwide box office – and launched hits for Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, Dua Lipa and Billie Eilish in the process – but the year of Barbie is far from over. Although JaidynAlexis and her new streaming smash have nothing to do with the iconic blonde doll, “Barbie” relies on the cultural cachet of the doll as a symbol of beauty to fulfill its hit potential. “I’m a bad lil’ b–ch and I’m snipped like a Barbie/ Hips, lips, a–, in a Cartier/ I’m his favorite mother—r/ Hello, motherf—r,” she spits in a menacing, half-whispered cadence. JaidynAlexis, the partner of “Thotiana” rapper Blueface – who is currently embroiled in a seemingly endless back-and-forth with reality TV star (and mother of his child) Chrisean Rock – only started releasing music this year, and she’s already truck gold on her fourth official single.

According to Luminate, “Barbie” has earned a little over 1.48 million official on-demand U.S. streams during the period of Oct. 6-12, an eye-popping 830.7% increase from just under 160,000 streams during the period of Sept. 30-Oct. 5. It’s still rising: From Oct. 13-16, “Barbie” collected over 1.2 million streams. In addition to her wide reach as a social media influencer, TikTok has quickly latched onto the hit, with many users expressing delight and surprise at how catchy the song’s hook is. The official “Barbie” sound has amassed over 90,000 posts in two weeks, with the track’s official music video reaching 2.69 million views on YouTube in the same time frame.

Blueface, who wrote and provided ad-libs for the track, hasn’t seen the Billboard Hot 100 since a 2019 collaboration with Rich the Kid, titled “Daddy.” Should “Barbie” continue to grow at this rate, the LA rapper could see substantial success on the Billboard charts for the first time in several years. – KYLE DENIS

Aliyah’s Interlude Emerges As The Internet’s Newest “It Girl” Thank To New Viral Hit

Best known for cultivating the “#AliyahCore” fashion aesthetic – “a hodgepodge of Y2K, alternative and harajuku style,” as described by The New York Times — social media personality Aliyah’s Interlude has made her first foray into music with the gloriously campy “IT GIRL.” Comprised of a combination of pop affirmations and a thumping dance beat courtesy of LxnleyBeats. The song is the perfect musical encapsulation of Aliyah’s online persona: brash, spunky, and uncompromisingly self-confident. “IT GIRL” has quickly enraptured its intended audience on TikTok, earning over 97,300 posts on the app for its official sound, and a further 276,700 posts for the sped-up version. Most creators are using the various versions of the song to soundtrack clips of them flaunting the confidence the track gives them.

According to Luminate, “IT GIRL” has collected a little over two million official on-demand U.S. streams during the period of Oct. 6-12, a 144.8% increase from just under 850,000 streams during the period of Sept. 30-Oct. 5. On Tuesday (Oct. 17), the song, Aliyah’s debut single, launched at No. 1 on the global Spotify Viral 100 chart, remaining at No. 1 in the U.S. and at No. 2 globally the following day. Over on YouTube, the song’s official audio uploads (the original and sped-up versions) have earned a combined two million views in just two weeks. With social media in the palm of her hands, Aliyah’s Interlude is just getting started. — K.D.

Salsa Music Isn’t Dead: Here Are 15 Hidden Gems Keeping the Tropical Genre Alive

Salsa music has stood the test of time and evolved ever since its early-20th-century origins in Cuba. Needless to say, genre pioneers such as Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Fania All-Stars and Héctor Lavoe, all paved the way for the artists of today and tomorrow.

On the Billboard charts, tropical acts such as Victor Manuelle and Marc Anthony are forces to be reckoned with. The former artist leads the Tropical Airplay chart with a total of 81 entries, including 29 No. 1 hits, such as “Tengo Ganas,” which spent 13 weeks at the top in 2004. The latter artist boasts 35 No. 1 hits on the chart, including “Que Precio Tiene El Cielo,” “Vivir Mi Vida” and the Daddy Yankee-assisted “De Vuelta Pa’ La Vuelta,” all of which reigned for more than 11 weeks.

Over on the Tropical Albums chart, “El Caballero de la Salsa,” Gilberto Santa Rosa, leads the pack with 37 album entries (12 which hit No. 1), followed by Victor Manuelle with a total of 27 entries.

But as artists such as Anthony, Manuelle and Santa Rosa continue to dominate the salsa music realm, a new generation of talented and passionately driven artists is surging.

Notably is Luis Vázquez, who in 2021 made history as the youngest soloist to top the Tropical Airplay chart with “Tu Fan.” The then-15-year-old beat out previous record-holder Leslie Grace, who was 17 when her “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow” topped the chart in October 2012. Vazquez leads the new generation of salsa stars with eight entries on the Tropical Airplay chart and one in Tropical Albums with his debut studio album Comienzos.

Following him is Luis Figueroa, who in two years has placed eight titles on the Tropical Airplay chart, including two No. 1 hits: “Hasta El Sol de Hoy” in 2021 and “Bandido” this year. And there’s also the charismatic Christian Alicea, another potent artist, who has three Billboard chart entries to this point.

But these artists are not the only ones refreshing the genre — below, Billboard highlights 15 new and exciting salsa artists who you should be listening to:

Tyga Seeks Sole Custody of His & Blac Chyna’s Son, King Cairo

Tyga is seeking sole custody of his son, King Cairo.

Spotted on E! News, Michael Stevenson, aka Tyga, wants to be the sole guardian of the son he shares with “reborn” Blac Chyna.

Per E! News:

The rapper—real name Michael Stevenson—filed court papers in Los Angeles Oct. 13 requesting legal and physical custody of the 11-year-old, who he shares with ex Blac Chyna

In the document obtained by E! News, Tyga asked the court to give Chyna child visitation rights—specifically, that she get time with King every Friday after school to Sunday at 5 p.m.

As for holidays, he asked that their schedule be determined in accordance to “the parties’ mutual agreement.”

Blac Chyna, oops, we mean, Angela Renée White responded to the filing, telling E! News in a statement she was “shocked.”

“I have always respected him as King’s father and know that we both love him very much and want nothing but the best for him,” Chyna said to E! News. “I never imagined that Michael would want to alienate me or distance me from King and strategically push me out of his life.

She continues, “I do not know where all of this is coming from. It’s all very sad and definitely not what is best for King. In a perfect world, Michael and I would be supportive, loving co-parents equally involved in King’s life.”

Blac Chyna Filed For Joint Custody Earlier In The Year

Before Tyga dropped his filing, White filed for joint custody on July 24 to “determine parental relationship” with the “Rack City” rapper.

Tyga responded to Chyna’s filing, hopping in The Shaderoom’s comment section, writing, “10 years later…nah…stick to ur schedule sat-mon.”

In a May 18 episode of the *sarcastic voice* groundbreaking podcast, Caresha Please, Chyna revealed that she communicated with Tyga “through the nannies.”

We hope these two can get their acts together for the sake of their son.

Kenya Grace Goes No. 1 on Hot Dance/Electronic Songs Chart With ‘Strangers’

Newcomer Kenya Grace rises to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, dated Oct. 21, with her breakthrough hit, “Strangers.”

Concurrently, “Strangers” tops the Dance/Electronic Streaming Songs and Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales charts for a fifth and third week, respectively. It rose 4% to 8.2 million official U.S. streams in the week ending Oct. 12, according to Luminate.

The track, on Major/Warner Records, debuted on the Sept. 16-dated survey at No. 5 and then ranked at No. 2 the last four weeks. It displaces David Guetta and Bebe Rexha’s “I’m Good (Blue)” after 55 total and consecutive weeks at No. 1. That’s the second-longest reign in the list’s decade-long history, trailing only Marshmello and Bastille’s “Happier” (69 weeks, 2018-20).

Notably, “Strangers” is the first Hot Dance/Electronic Songs No. 1 solely written, produced and sung by a woman. Among all acts, and 50 leaders so far, it joins Calvin Harris’ “Summer,” in 2014, as the only songs written, produced and sung by a single talent.

Not only does “Strangers” crown Hot Dance/Electronic Songs, but Grace builds upon her momentum with a debut, as her “Only in My Mind” enters at No. 35.

“Strangers” also bounds to the Dance/Mix Show Airplay top 10 (15-6), up 48% in plays as the chart’s Greatest Gainer. The song, which has achieved prominence on TikTok, has also become her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100.

Beyond U.S.-only-based charts, “Strangers” has become a worldwide hit for Grace, who was born in South Africa and raised in the U.K. It has reached No. 3 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. tally and No. 5 on the Billboard Global 200. It has also hit the top 10 on 19 of Billboard’s Hits of the World charts, topping lists in the U.K. and Austria. It also rises to the top of the latest Official UK Singles Chart.

It’s been a big year for Harlow, who released his first No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rap Albums chart with his third studio album, Jackman., which was released back in April. He first appeared on the list with his Sweet Action EP, which peaked at No. 13 in July 2020. His full-length debut, That’s What They All Say, debuted and peaked at No. 2 in December 2020, as did his sophomore LP, Come Home the Kids Miss You, in May 2022.

Last month, the 25-year-old rapper was named songwriter of the year at the 2023 SESAC Music Awards, marking the third year in a row that Harlow has been awarded the honor. “First Class,” which was his first unaccompanied No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, took song of the year.
