Shakira Surprises Carlos Vives at Miami Concert: Watch

More than halfway through Carlos Vives’ sold-out show at the Kaseya Center in Miami on Saturday (Oct. 28), the very loud audience — which had been on its feet for nearly an hour — suddenly got even louder during the Colombian singer’s rendition of “La Bicicleta,” his 2017 hit with fellow Colombian star Shakira.

Vives, clearly thinking it was in response to his urging crowd participation during a musical interlude, moved forward, waving his arms. With his back turned to the giant screen on the back of the stage, he missed the real cause of the commotion, as Shakira stepped on stage from the back entrance and started singing a part of the chorus. Still unaware, Vives turned toward his band, and did a visible double-take when he saw Shakira inches from him.

His first reaction was to run away from Shakira. Then he ran toward her. She pulled his arm. They hugged. They danced as a couple Colombian style. “He didn’t expect it!” a delighted Shakira told the crowd. “You didn’t expect it!” she told Vives.

He didn’t. The truly surprise appearance had been hatched just the night before between Shakira and tour promoter Loud and Live, and kept a total secret save for a handful of people in production. Shakira, now living in Miami, was approached to see if she might be interested in singing with Vives during his important Miami stop. Yes, but keeping it a secret. And so it was.

With no rehearsal or soundcheck, Shakira arrived to the Kaseya when Vives was already well into his set, posting live video on her Instagram feed where she delightedly told fans what she was going to do. Dressed in sparkly loose jeans and a crop top, she sang with Vives, then stayed on stage for an extra song as he serenaded her.

“Surprising my brother Carlos Vives onstage tonight,” Shakira wrote on her Instagram, to which Vives replied a few hours later: “Shak. I can retire. Now, chao. I leave happy. Nothing tops this. You made me the happiest man. I love you. WHAT A SURPRISE.

It was an exquisite moment for an exquisite night. Vives’ show in Miami, home to a huge Colombian diaspora and where he sometimes has spent months at a time, was as expected, a sell-out. The show, part of his El Tour de los 30, which celebrates the 30 years since the release of his turning-point album Clásicos de la Provincia, has included a free, massive show in Madrid’s Puerta de Alacalá and will culminate with a show in Colombia’s Estadio El Campín in December.

Matthew Perry, the Sarcastic and Sweet Chandler From ‘Friends,’ Dies at 54

Matthew Perry, who starred as sarcastic but sweet Chandler Bing in the hit series Friends, has died. He was 54.

The Emmy-nominated actor was found dead of an apparent drowning at his Los Angeles home Saturday (Oct. 28), according to the Los Angeles Times and TMZ, which was the first to report the news. Both outlets cited unnamed sources confirming Perry’s death.

His publicists and other representatives did not immediately respond to messages seeking comment. Asked to confirm police response to what was listed as Perry’s home address, LAPD Officer Drake Madison told the Associated Press that officers had gone to that block “for a death investigation of a male in his 50s.”

Perry’s 10 seasons on Friends made him one of Hollywood’s most recognizable actors, starring opposite Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer as a friend group in New York City.

As Chandler, he played the quick-witted, insecure and neurotic roommate of LeBlanc’s Joey and a close friend of Schwimmer’s Ross. By the series’ end, Chandler is married to Cox’s Monica and they have a family, reflecting the journey of the core cast from single New Yorkers to married and starting families.

The series was one of television’s biggest hits and has taken on a new life — and found surprising popularity with younger fans — in recent years on streaming services.

Friends ran from 1994 until 2004, and the cast notably banded together for later seasons to obtain a salary of $1 million per episode for each.

Unknown at the time was the struggle Perry had with addiction and an intense desire to please audiences.

Friends was huge. I couldn’t jeopardize that. I loved the script. I loved my co-actors … I loved everything about the show but I was struggling with my addictions which only added to my sense of shame,” he wrote in his memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing. “I had a secret and no one could know.”

“I felt like I was gonna die if the live audience didn’t laugh, and that’s not healthy for sure. But I could sometimes say a line and the audience wouldn’t laugh and I would sweat and sometimes go into convulsions,” Perry wrote. “If I didn’t get the laugh I was supposed to get I would freak out. I felt that every single night. This pressure left me in a bad place. I also knew of the six people making that show, only one of them was sick.”

An HBO Max reunion special in 2021 was hosted by James Corden and fed into huge interest in seeing the cast together again, although the program consisted of the actors discussing the show and was not a continuation of their characters’ storylines.

Perry received one Emmy nomination for his Friends role and two more for appearances as an associate White House counsel on The West Wing.

Perry also had several notable film roles, starring opposite Salma Hayek in the rom-com Fools Rush In and Bruce Willis in the the crime comedy The Whole Nine Yards.

Imogen Heap Shares Photos From ‘Clean’ Recording Session to Celebrate ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ Release

Imogen Heap, who co-wrote and co-produced the 1989 track “Clean” with Taylor Swift, penned a note about her experience recording the 13th song on the 2014 album and re-recording it for the just-released version, 1989 (Taylor’s Version).

“Today marks the release of ‘Taylor’s version’ of 1989 …the album originally released in 2014. The latest in line towards @taylorswift’s endeavour to re-record every album she’s ever done as part of an old record deal,” Heap wrote Friday (Oct. 27) on Instagram, where she shared photos from the studio.

“This is Taylor playing a bada– card to stay in control of her work in a commercial music industry that largely works against musicians,” she said.

Heap captioned a picture in her post: “Here’s me in my studio re-recording my bits on Clean last year, almost a decade on from the day Taylor swooped in to visit me at my home the @theround.house for 10 hours between 2 sold out shows at the 02 arena!”

She also captioned a snapshot of the two when they first worked together, writing, “downstairs in the @thehideaway.studio…Two ladies, in a room. We wrote and produced 90% of the track and still managed to eat lunch and dinner!”

“Now you can have fun playing spot the difference,” joked Heap, who thanked Swift on Instagram “for inviting me into your world!”

In a 2014 interview with the writer of this article, Swift recalled that “meeting Imogen Heap was an amazing experience for me because she was all I listened to in high school. Getting to not only meet her, but work with her and watch to see what she does in the studio, was really inspiring.”

So what did Swift first say upon first meeting one of her musical idols? “Hi, I’m so happy to meet you?” she answered with a laugh. “I try to keep it in check. I try to act as, like, normal as humanly possible.”

“The song ‘Clean’ is one that I wrote about sort of coming out of a relationship or trying to move on from some struggle that you had in your life, and feeling kind of tarnished by it,” Swift said during our chat, which took place before the release of 2014’s 1989. “And it kind of talks about how if you really allow yourself to feel pain, I think maybe it’s easier to get past it. For most people that I’ve known who’ve fought through struggle, a lot of them who have really just faced the pain head on have come out OK a lot faster than the ones who just pretended to be in denial of it.”

“Almost every line in that song is one that I’m proud of,” she told me.

Meanwhile, when the original 1989 was released that year, Heap admitted on her blog that prior to actually working together, she’d wrongly assumed Swift didn’t really write her own music.

“I have to be honest here and say that I ever so slightly had not done my homework on Taylor Swift but had done what I HATE others do of me, which is to pre-judge a person based on assumptions,” Heap wrote. “I had assumed Taylor didn’t write too much of her own music (as is the case with many young, extremely successful artists these days who sell a shed load of records), and was likely puppeteered by an aging gang of music executives.”

At the time Heap wanted to make it known that she’d been “reading the odd report or tweet here and there that the reason the lyrics to ‘Clean’ are so good is because I wrote the song with her but FOR SURE they are all hers she deserves all the credit!”

See Imogen Heap’s full note about re-recording “Clean” for 1989 (Taylor’s Version) below and on Instagram. Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) sold over 250,000 copies in the U.S. on its first day of release, according to initial reports to data tracking firm Luminate. After just one day, the album has the third-largest sales week of 2023.

Taylor Swift’s fourth re-recorded album, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), sold over 250,000 copies in the U.S. on its first day of release, Oct. 27, according to initial reports to data tracking firm Luminate. The sales of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) will increase in the coming days, with the current tracking week ending on Thursday, Nov. 2. The album’s final first-week sales number is expected to be announced on Sunday, Nov. 5, along with its assumed large debut on the multi-metric Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Nov. 11). If 1989 (Taylor’s Version) debuts atop the Billboard 200, it will mark Swift’s 13th No. 1 album, extending her record for the most among women.

All 12 of Swift’s full-length studio albums and re-recorded projects from 2008’s Fearless, her second studio album, through 2023’s Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) have debuted at No. 1.

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units, compiled by Luminate. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album. For all chart news, follow @billboard and @billboardcharts on both Twitter and Instagram.

In addition, the songs on 1989 (Taylor’s Version) collectively generated over 110 million on-demand official audio streams on the set’s release day in the U.S., according to initial reports to Luminate.

Further news of initial sales, streaming and track-equivalent activity for the album, as provided by Luminate, will be reported in the coming days.

The original 1989 album debuted atop the Billboard 200 chart dated Nov. 15, 2014, and spent 11 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1. It is tied with Swift’s first No. 1, Fearless, for her most weeks at No. 1 with a single album. The 1989 album boasts three songs that hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 — the most No. 1s generated from any Swift album. She sent the tracks “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space” and “Bad Blood,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, to No. 1 in 2014-15.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) includes re-recordings of the original 1989 album’s standard 13 songs plus the three tracks on its deluxe edition. The new 1989 (Taylor’s Version) boasts five additional previously unreleased “From the Vault” songs, bringing the total number of songs on the standard version of 1989 (Taylor’s Version) to 21.

1989 (Taylor’s Version) is available to purchase in 15 collectible physical formats: five color vinyl variants, eight CD editions and two cassette editions. Of the five vinyl variants, Target carries a color variant that includes one bonus track (“Sweeter Than Fiction”). The album is also available to buy in two digital download editions: a standard 21-song version and a deluxe 22-song version (which adds a re-recorded version of the album’s “Bad Blood,” featuring Lamar).

The pop star’s hair was as long, straight and dark as The Addams Family matriarch’s, and her makeup was dead-on at her performance at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace.

Short videos from the latest Weekends With Adele concert, filmed by fans, made their way to social media on Saturday. Clips of Adele as Morticia Addams singing “Hello,” “Rolling in the Deep” and “Love in the Dark” were among those that concertgoers captured.

In another fan-filmed video from Friday night’s concert, Adele recalls meeting a super fan who was thrilled to show her a tattoo inked in the singer’s artistic honor. The story has a bit of a dark twist.

The fan was “very excited to show me their tattoo,” Adele noted, adding that “this guy was in tears, he was so excited.”

“I’ve got to show you my tattoo that I got of your lyrics,” Adele remembered him saying.

“I was like, oh nice — no offense, I would never — I was like oh nice, let me see,” the superstar said.

Hopefully that fan has a sense of humor because it it turns out, he made an unfortunate error.

“It was the lyrics to ‘Make You Feel My Love.’ I didn’t write that f—ing song,” Adele said to laughter from the crowd. “It said, ‘To Make You Feel My Love – Adele.’ I was like, Bob Dylan wrote that song.”

Adele recorded her version of the Dylan standard for her debut studio album, 19, released back in 2008.

BMG Lays Off Dozens in Film/TV, Theatrical & International Marketing

BMG terminated about 40 employees on Thursday (Oct. 27), sources within the company tell Billboard. The layoffs cut effectively the entirety of its film/TV, theatrical, and international marketing department for recordings as well as its Modern Recordings label, according to sources and an internal memo obtained by Billboard. It took place on the day of the New York office’s annual Halloween party, says a source.

The eliminations include company leaders like Fred Casimir (executive vp, global repertoire) and Jason Hradil (senior vp, global repertoire) and affected employees in its Berlin, New York, and Los Angeles offices. A source within the company fears there are more layoffs to come and believes the layoffs may be a result of the company hiring the consulting firm McKinsey & Company in recent months.

After employees were notified they were being laid off, the company hosted a call with the U.S. recorded music team — including those who were let go — according to a source within the company.

“Everyone at BMG says it feels like a venture capital firm now and not a record label,” laments an employee. “Things got dark real fast, and it bums me out watching a lot of amazing people lose their jobs right before the holidays.”

In a video call hosted by CEO Thomas Coesfeld, the leader explained that the restructuring was part of the implementation of its new strategy, BMG Next, according to an internal memo shared with Billboard. “The international marketing team was set up five years ago in response to the needs of the company at the time,” he said to senior managers. “Our talented team has done a great job, driving international campaigns for artists including Lenny Kravitz, Kylie Minogue, and Louis Tomlinson, but unfortunately on a business level, expectations from this novel structure were not met and it created duplication of functions with local teams. The clear business decision is to instead give artists a single contact point with their local repertoire teams.”

A BMG spokesperson declined to comment beyond providing the memo.

In the last year, BMG — which represents talent like Jelly Roll, Halsey and Lainey Wilson as well as certain rights to the catalogs of Tina Turner, Peter Frampton, Mötley Crüe, and more — has made a number of significant business changes. In January, its longstanding chief executive Hartwig Masuch announced he would retire and would be succeeded by then-CFO Coesfeld, effective Jan. 1, 2024. On April 18, BMG claimed it would be the first music company to fully integrate its catalog and frontline music operations. On May 17, Masuch announced he would accelerate Coesfeld’s transition to CEO to July 1 instead.

In September, BMG announced it was winding down its agreement with Warner Music Group’s ADA and would be taking over direct management of its 80-billion-stream digital distribution later this year. (Digital revenues contributed 70% of BMG’s overall revenues in 2022.) Last week, BMG also announced it would be partnering with UMG’s commercial services division for the distribution of its physical recorded music. Coesfeld described the deal as the first project of a burgeoning “alliance” between the two music companies.

Taylor Swift Breaks Spotify Record for Most-Streamed Album in a Single Day With ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’

Taylor Swift has done it again. The pop star’s re-recorded 1989 album has made Spotify history in its first 24 hours of release.

Spotify announced on Saturday (Oct. 28) that 1989 (Taylor’s Version), Swift’s 21-track album that arrived on Friday, is officially the most-streamed album in a single day in the streaming service’s history.

But that’s not all. Spotify also shared that Swift has become the most-streamed artist in a single day with the release of 1989 (Taylor’s Version). With this feat, the “Cruel Summer” singer replaces herself as the most-streamed artist record holder after capturing the title with her 10th studio album, Midnights, in October 2022.

The fresh release of 1989 features newly recorded editions of all 13 original songs, plus three bonus tracks (“Wonderland,” “New Romantics” and “You Are In Love”) and five cuts from the “Vault” (“Is It Over Now?,” “Now That We Don’t Talk,” “Say Don’t Go,” “Suburban Legends” and “Slut!”).

Swift has just two more “Taylor’s Version” re-records on the docket now that 1989 has dropped. Having released Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version) in 2021, along with Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) earlier this year, all that’s left are her 2006 self-titled debut and 2017’s Reputation, the last album she made while with Big Machine Records.

Swift is this year’s leading Billboard Music Awards finalist. You can watch the BBMAs on Nov. 19 on Billboard and the BBMA’s social media channels, as well as here.

Travis Kelce Dances to Taylor Swift’s ‘Shake It Off’ at World Series Game 1

Travis Kelce was showing off his dance moves at Game 1 of the 2023 World Series.

The Kansas City Chiefs tight end was spotted doing a playful dance to Taylor Swift‘s 2014 hit “Shake It Off” while watching the Texas Rangers take on the Arizona Diamondbacks at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Friday (Oct. 27).

In a TikTok video shared by an attendee at the baseball game, Kelce appeared on the stadium’s big screen as he held up his arm, shook his hand and cheerfully bounced while the popular track played in the background. “Shake It Off” spent four weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2014.

Swift wasn’t in attendance at the World Series game, but pop star and athlete have been photographed together numerous times in recent weeks.

After the game on Friday, Kelce was spotted dancing to another Swift song at a bar. In a separate TikTok clip, the tight end busted a move to Swift’s 2008 song “Love Story” at what appeared to be a post-game celebration with friends.

Rumors of a romance between Swift and Kelce have been swirling since the “Anti-Hero” singer was seen sitting next to Kelce’s mother during the Chiefs-Bears game on Sept. 24. Since then, Swift has attended two more Chief games with celebrity friends like Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds.

Kelce’s ongoing courting of the Swift began in July, when he tried (and failed) to hand her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it during her Eras tour stop in Kansas City.

Last weekend, Swift and Kelce seemingly confirmed their long-rumored romance by holding hands on their way to the Oct. 14 SNL afterparty, just after they each made surprise cameos on the show’s season 49 premiere. The next day, they had dinner at a restaurant in the West Village, hand-in-hand again. To date, neither Swift nor Kelce have confirmed their reported romance.

Machine Gun Kelly & Megan Fox Wear Bloody ‘Kill Bill’-Inspired Costumes at Halloween Party in L.A.

Machine Gun Kelly and Megan Fox drew inspiration from a classic Quentin Tarantino film for their Halloween costumes this year.

The couple arrived to the annual Casamigos Halloween Party in Los Angels on Friday (Oct. 27) sporting a pair of bloody outfits from 2003’s Kill Bill: Volume 1.

MGK donned a blood-drenched yellow jumpsuit similar to the one worn by Uma Thurman’s Bride character and Fox rocked a costume based on the schoolgirl assassin Gogo Yubari, portrayed by actress Chiaki Kuriyama. Kelly also wielded a samurai sword while Fox wore a black wig with blood pouring from her eyes.

The star-studded Halloween bash also included guests Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton, Cindy Crawford, Austin Butler, Jessica Alba, Gavin Rossdale, and others.

Last year, the pop-punk star and actress — who got engaged in January 2022 — attended the same Halloween party wearing costumes based on legendary rock ‘n’ roll couple Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson. The pair specifically created the Mötley Crüe dummer and actress’ look from the 1995 grand opening of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

Feid Explains the Stories Behind the Photo | Billboard

Feid explains the stories behind these photos backstage at Billboard’s Latin Music Week 2023.

Feid

Hello love, I’m Feid and I’m gonna to take you Behind the Photo with Billboard!

Feid

First photo. This photo was the last one was we took in the studio when we finished “Felix Cumpleaños Ferxxo.”

Feid

Before our album got pirated we were having some drinks, we were having a good time. Listening to the album from start to finish, joking around and having fun. I’m the kind of person who takes a lot of photos of the moment of the space, of everything. My photo roll is full. This was a selfie I didn’t want to forget, nor that moment, as we put a lot of love into that project. Considering I started making that album with a broken foot. So it was lovely, and later on walking, listening to it and everything.

Feid

Well the second photo is this…what a gem, look! Ferxxo wearing Ferxxo’s glasses. Mr.Yankee wearing Ferxxo’s glasses and, Don Yandel wearing Ferxxo’s glasses. That was a dream come true for me because, I believe I’ve said it in many interviews, and many people know that one of my influences and someone who has shaped my life as a reggaeton artist has been Yankee. And I used to make Photoshop edits with Yandel when I was in school. It was like we were a duo, so a speak. So, recording the remix of “Yandel 150” with Yankee, and of course, I brought Ferxxo’s glasses to have a good time.
