Australia’s 2024 Groovin the Moo Festival Tour Is Canceled

Australia’s Groovin the Moo, one of the country’s most popular touring festivals, has canceled this year’s edition due to poor ticket sales.

Just weeks after announcing a bill that featured Alison Wonderland, DMA’S, Jet, Armani White, GZA & the Phunky Nomads, the Jungle Giants and many others, organizers on Wednesday (Feb. 14) announced they would pull the pin.

“We are extremely disappointed to announce that the Groovin the Moo 2024 tour has been forced to cancel,” reads the statement. “Ticket sales have not been sufficient to deliver a regional festival of this kind.”

GTM’s point of difference is in its route around the country, visiting primarily regional centers and bypassing Australia’s big three east coast cities (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane). This year’s run was scheduled to start April 25 at Adelaide Showground, then visit sites in Canberra, Bendigo, Newcastle, Sunshine Coast and wrap up May 11 in Bunbury, Western Australia.

Ticketmaster-affiliated Moshtix supported the event, along with Spotify and national youth broadcaster triple j.

“All tickets will be refunded automatically,” reads the statement. “Thank you to everybody who has supported the festival. We hope to be able to bring Groovin the Moo back to regional communities in the future. There will be no further comments from Groovin the Moo at this stage.”

Established by Cattleyard Promotions, Groovin the Moo’s first festival was held on April 2005 in Gloucester, New South Wales.

Through the years, a who’s who of edgy rock, pop, hip-hop and electronic music have graced its stages, from Vampire Weekend and Silverchair to Disclosure, The Darkness and many more.

Australia hasn’t dodged the cost-of-living crisis, and selling concert and festival tickets isn’t a cinch.

Last month, economist Stephen Smith, senior partner with Deloitte Access, told reporters that, once population growth, tax and mortgage payments, as well as the annual and monthly inflation figures were taken into account, most Australians were feeling the pinch.

Groovin the Moo is by no means the only festival struggling to shift enough tickets to stay afloat.

Adelaide Hill’s Vintage Vibes cancelled its event just weeks ahead of showtime, citing “economic pressures, while NSW’s ValleyWays in Camden, Sydney was also scrapped. “We understand that costs of living pressures and rising interest rates have severely impacted patrons, particularly in regional areas like Camden,” read a statement from organizers, TEG MJR and the Rubens. “It simply isn’t the right time for this ambitious music festival to take place.”

Grooovin the Moo made international headlines in 2018 when its Canberra leg trialed pill testing, a first in Australia. Later, when the pandemic shut borders, grounded travel and social distancing became the norm, the festival brand scrapped its 2020 and 2021 events.

In the world of lipsticks, certain colors are considered more iconic than others. Standing the test of time essentially means that no matter what year we happen to be in, that lipstick shade never goes out of style. And red lipstick definitely fits the bill.

Taylor Swift loves a red lip (courtesy of Pat McGrath Labs) and she’s definitely not alone. Red is known as the first lipstick color ever invented, which is probably why it’s become a staple in any lipstick collection. To help you make pick the perfect lipstick, we rounded up a handful of beloved red lipsticks that you need to buy for Valentine’s Day and beyond.

‘Jeopardy!’ Contestant Guesses Beyoncé in Category Based on Billboard’s ’50 Greatest Rappers’ List

There is an argument to be made that Beyoncé is, in fact, a rapper — look no further than Megan Thee Stallion’s Grammy-winning “Savage” remix for evidence — but she did not make Billboard and Vibe‘s 2023 list of the 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time, despite what a Jeopardy! contestant guessed on Tuesday’s (Feb. 13) episode.

On the episode, there was a full category based on our list, which we co-authored with our sister publication Vibe early last year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop.

To announce the category, Jeopardy! host Ken Jennings said, “And finally, the 50 Greatest Rappers of All Time — chosen not by me, but by Billboard and Vibe.”

Trending on Billboard

The contestants only stumbled on the $200 clue, which read: “She invited us to ‘Come Into My House’ & also deal with the ‘Wrath of My Madness’; we bow down before this Queen.” Nicole incorrectly guessed Beyoncé — she of the Queen Bey nickname bestowed by her loyal Beyhive — but the answer was actually Queen Latifah, who landed at No. 44 on our list. “Different queen,” Jennings quipped after Kat got the right answer.

Below, find the final four remaining clues from the category along with their correct answers — and where those artists landed on our list.

$400 clue: “In 1986 it was ‘6 ‘N the Mornin’’ for him in the studio but in 2000 it was SVU for him on TV.”

Who is Ice-T? The rapper-turned-actor is No. 45 on our list.

$600 clue: “Billboard said he is ‘often cited as hip-hop’s GOAT behind the boards…a lead rapper on…1988’s Straight Outta Compton.’”

Who is Dr. Dre? The N.W.A and solo star is No. 40 on our list.

$800 clue: “Some numbers: 3 years after taking 9 bullets, he had a Billboard 200 No. 1 debut with Get Rich or Die Tryin’ in 2003.”

Who is 50 Cent? The Eminem signee is No. 17 on our list.

$1,000 clue: “‘Backed by rap’s archetypal hype man in Flavor Flav,’ this Public Enemy leader was a ‘Rebel Without a Pause’ in 1987.”

Who is Chuck D? The activist frontman is No. 34 on our list.

There weren’t any questions about rappers in our top 10 — including Jay-Z, who tops our list — but you can revisit the full countdown here to see where your favorite lands.

In the last month, Jeopardy! has featured a category based on Billboard‘s 500 Best Pop Songs list as well as a full Taylor Swift takeover of every category in a round.

Tainy Reflects on First Grammy Nom as a Lead Artist: ‘I Can’t Say It’s Overdue’

Tainy is not a new face for the Recording Academy. His work has been nominated in the past, and just last year, he won his first Golden Gramophone for his participation on Bad Bunny’s Un Verano Sin Ti, which won best música urbana album.

But this year, the Puerto Rican hitmaker earned his first-ever nomination as a lead artist with his debut album as artist-producer called DATA — a nom he felt was “far-fetched.”

“It’s special. I’ve been working for awhile,” he tells Billboard. “In music, you always see the Grammys like a stamp. … This is my first project. I can’t say it’s overdue because it’s so new. For me, growing up in Puerto Rico, it wasn’t in our goals or in our minds of things we could accomplish. Just seeing the American Grammys seemed so far-fetched. It wasn’t even in my mind, and for it to happen, is not easy to digest and understand  at the moment but I’m blessed to be around all these people who I admire and inspire me in a certain way.” (Karol G’s Mañana Será Bonito won the 2024 Grammy, against DATA and Rauw Alejandro’s Saturno.)

DATA laces his unmatched skills, good music taste, and A-list artist friends such as Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee, Wisin & Yandel, Julieta Venegas, and more. For Tainy, “it’s super personal.”

“When I started doing music, the people I admired growing up, that’s what they used to do,” he explains. “All these amazing producers would do their own albums and everyone would just hop on and try to do the best track possible. To me, as soon as I became a fan of music and beats, that inspired me so much. I came into the game getting opportunities and working with these artists, and as the genre evolved, those albums didn’t happen anymore. Music changed so much.”

In the latest Billboard News episode, Tainy shares his strongest song on the set, producing Selena Gomez’s first all-Spanish-language project, and helming his very own concert in Puerto Rico’s coveted Coliseo venue.

“I’m still growing, I’m still a student of what I do,” he notes. “There’s a lot of things I want to keep on tapping and trying, just give myself a shot and see what happens.”

Tainy Talks His First Grammy Nomination for ‘Data,’ His Sold-Out Show at ‘Choliseo’ & More | Billboard News

Acclaimed Latin producer Tainy talks about receiving his first Grammy nomination for his debut album ‘Data,’ what it’s like to produce for Latin superstars, getting the chance to work with Selena Gomez on her first Spanish-language album ‘Revelación,’ bringing his music to life in a live show at the Coliseum of Puerto Rico and more!

Tainy:
Because of how I grew up and feeling that none of these things that I’ve been able to do were possibilities when I started, you just got to be able to put as much, you know, passion into it. Things will happen.

What’s up, guys? This is Tainy and you’re watching Billboard News.

Tetris Kelly:
Hey, what’s up? It’s Tetris with Billboard News, hanging out with the one the only Tainy. What’s up, my man?

Tainy:
How’s it going, man? All good here.

Tetris Kelly:
Thanks for making your way over from Miami to LA to hang out with us. You’ve had an interesting few months right now.

Tainy:
I’m happy to be here. But yeah, how do you say? It’s been really fun, exciting, different couple of months leading up to it so you know, happy over here.

Tetris Kelly:
Well, the Grammys were a big deal for you this year, your first-ever American Grammy nomination so that’s significant. Tell me how that felt.

Tainy:
I mean, it’s special. I’ve been working for awhile, you know, in music, you always see the Grammys like that’s like the stamp and to be considered, to be alongside so many amazing artists and me putting out my first album, per se, and have it be recognized over here, in certain ways you expect that what you do will be impactful and people will notice it, but it’s not like a done deal. You got to put it out and just see how the world and the universe reacts to it and just to see that nomination over there and for it to be also my first time to be just nominated, have my name around there is just amazing.

Tetris Kelly:
I think that’s what is so special about it because you’re so known as such a prolific producer, but then your very first album as an artist gets a Grammy like, that doesn’t happen to everybody, man.

Country Radio Has Been Slow to Play Beyoncé’s New Music, But That Doesn’t Mean It Won’t

During Sunday night’s Super Bowl, Beyoncé dropped two new country-flavored songs, the galloping “Texas Hold ‘Em,” and the more reflective “16 Carriages.” But country radio stations have been initially slow to add the Houston-born superstar.

In the two songs’ first 24-plus hours of release (from Sunday night through the end of Monday), eight reporters to Billboard’s Country Airplay chart played “Texas Hold ‘Em,” and only one, KBAY San Francisco, played it more than once (two spins), for a total of nine early plays at the format, according to Mediabase. No stations on the country chart’s panel, which ranges from 145-to-150 stations, played “16 Carriages” in that span. Overall, “Texas Hold ‘Em” received over 200 all-format plays, largely on pop radio, in that stretch, while “16 Carriages” drew just a handful of plays. Neither song registered enough plays through Monday to appear on Billboard’s 60-position Country Airplay chart.

The situation at country radio may change, however. On Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 13), Columbia officially serviced “Texas Hold ‘Em” to country radio, whereas it had previously been sent to other formats, according to a source. Country radio has traditionally been reluctant to play songs that aren’t serviced to them or then actively promoted by the label. The two songs are part of Renaissance Act II coming from Beyoncé on March 29.  Beyoncé has flirted with country music before, releasing “Daddy Lessons” on 2016’s Lemonade and playing the track with the Dixie Chicks (now The Chicks) on that year’s CMA Awards. That song was not actively worked to country radio, according to a Billboard story at the time, and did not chart at country radio, though it did reach No. 41 on the Hot 100.

Trending on Billboard

Bo Matthews, programming director of Alpha Media’s KBAY, which played “Texas Hold ‘Em” twice on Monday and continues to play it, says listener reaction has been “split.” He says, “I think it’s different to hear Beyoncé on a country radio station. We’re going to play it more and see if it the audience likes it and let them allow to be the decider as to whether or not it continues to be on the playlist.”

KBAY began playing “Texas Hold ‘Em” before Sony Music serviced to country radio, so Matthews grabbed the edit (which bleeps out the word “b—-”) from one of KBAY’s sister stations playing it, had KBAY’s midday host add it and asked listeners to weigh in. “It’s one of the biggest celebrities in the world doing a country song and I think that’s exciting for the format,” he says.

On Tuesday, the Austin American-Stateman ran a news story based on a social media post claiming country station KYKC in Ada, Oklahoma, flat-out rejected a request to play “Texas Hold ‘Em.” The story included a screenshot of a post from X (formerly Twitter) user @jussatto, who said he had requested the station play the song and received the following response, “Hi, we do not play Beyonce on KYKC as we are a country music station.” Another fan posted another response from the KYKC, saying it will “happily play the song when it gets high enough on the chart.”

These claims immediately sparked a broader online debate over whether country stations would play the song. On Tuesday afternoon, the station, which is not a Mediabase reporter, posted on Facebook that there were “lots of calls coming in” for the song and posted a log showing “Texas Hold ‘Em” played at 2:28 p.m. CT, sandwiched between Zach Bryan’s “Tishomingo” and Carrie Underwood’s “Wasted.”

A source at the station, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told Billboard that the initial email response posted on X was from the station’s general manager, who did not know that Beyoncé had released two new country songs. KYKC’s sister Top 40 station had already played the song, and while the country station tends not to add songs until they are in the top 30 on Mediabase, “based on the number of calls we got in, we realized we needed to add it to the country station,” the source says. The song is now in the station’s system and it will continue to play it.

CMT immediately added “Texas Hold ‘Em” to its branded streaming stations and anticipates playing a video once one is released. A number of streaming services, including Spotify and Apple Music have also added it to their playlists. The song is currently on Spotify’s Hot Country playlist and it is No. 1 on iTunes’ Top 100 Songs chart, with “16 Carriages” at No. 2. Neither song appears on iTunes Top 100 Country Song chart, which is dominated by songs from Toby Keith’s catalog, following his death Feb. 5.

Beyoncé is just one of several pop artists planning to release country projects, including Post Malone and Lana Del Rey. Ed Sheeran told Billboard that he’d like to make a country album and a country project recorded by Brian Wilson in the ‘70s, is finally coming out next year, according to Rolling Stone.

Audacy and iHeartRadio country executives did not respond to request for comment. Beyoncé’s representative declined to any answer questions about the releases and the plan at radio.

H.E.R. Inks Management Deal with Lighthouse Management + Media

Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician H.E.R. has signed with Lighthouse Management + Media for management across all facets of her career.

The announcement follows in the wake of the H.E.R.’s guest appearance at Usher’s acclaimed halftime show during Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday (Feb. 11). According to the press release announcing the news, the signing represents the artist’s next career chapter and underscores “her commitment to expanding her artistic reach and exploring new creative avenues.”

H.E.R.’s former manager is Jeff Robinson. In 2022, the artist sued Robinson’s record label, MBK Entertainment, in an attempt to get out of her contract, citing California’s so-called “Seven-Year Statute.” (Her releases on MBK have been distributed by RCA Records, which was not named as a defendant.)

In addition to winning five Grammys, an Oscar and an Emmy, the 26-year-old has since branched into acting. She most recently portrayed the character Squeak in the musical film adaptation of The Color Purple and also released a duet with Usher, “Risk It All,” for the movie’s soundtrack. H.E.R. made her acting debut in December 2022 as Belle on ABC’s Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration.

The R&B/pop singer and guitar virtuoso, who signed with MBK Entertainment/RCA Records at age 14, made her breakthrough with 2016’s H.E.R. Volume 1 — the first of five EPs. Her catalog also includes two compilation albums: 2017’s platinum-certified H.E.R., which garnered her first two Grammys with wins for best R&B album and best R&B performance for “Best Part” with Daniel Caesar; and 2019’s gold-certified I Used to Know Her. She released Back of My Mind, her gold-certified debut studio album, in 2021. The RCA artist, along with her producer partner Live Nation, launched the Lights On Festival in 2019 — the first female-owned and curated R&B festival in decades.

H.E.R. later won the Academy Award for best original song for “Fight for You” from the Warner Bros. film Judas and the Black Messiah. That was followed by a Children’s and Family Emmy for outstanding short form program on behalf of her work on the animated series We the People.

Lighthouse Management + Media’s client roster also includes Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Selena Gomez, Gwyneth Paltrow, Olivia Rodrigo, Paul Rudd, Mark Ruffalo, artist Petra Collins and supermodel Miranda Kerr.

Peso Pluma & Nicki Nicole: A Timeline of Their Relationship

In 2022, the remix of the single “Por Las Noches” united Peso Pluma and Nicki Nicole.

“Just thank you for making this song. It’s amazing how you describe everything I feel right now, you are very talented. Keep killing it,” the Argentine rapper and singer posted on her Instagram stories in October 2022 about the single originally released by the Mexican star in 2021. To this, Peso responded with an invitation to collaborate on the remix of the song: “Thanks to my friend Nicki Nicole for posting me, for sharing the song. I say let’s do the remix.”

On March 1, 2023, the video for the collaboration arrived.

Months later, the couple appeared together on stages, walked red carpets and attended awards ceremonies, until their latest public appearance at the Los Angeles Lakers game in L.A. on Feb. 8.

Just ahead of Valentine’s Day, however, Nicki Nicole and Peso Pluma are apparently over. At least that’s what she hinted at with a strong statement she shared on social media after removing her and the Mexican singer’s photos from her Instagram account.

“Respect is a necessary part of love,” Nicole posted on an Instagram Story on Tuesday (Feb. 13). “What is loved, is respected. What is respected, is cared for. When you are not cared for and there is no respect, I don’t stay there. I leave. It is with great sorrow that I found out the same way you did, thank you for the love you are sending me.”

Her bold statement comes a day after a video of Peso Pluma holding hands with another woman in Las Vegas during Super Bowl weekend went viral. Nicki Nicole’s team declined to make additional comments on the matter. Billboard contacted a representative for Peso Pluma, who at the time of this publication had not responded.

Here is a timeline of the relationship between Peso Pluma and Nicki Nicole:
