Blink-182’s Tom DeLonge Got Knocked Down By Heat Stroke at Paraguay Show, But He Got Up Again: ‘Fell to My Knees’

There’s nothing worse than that seasick wave of being overcome by heat and feeling like you’re gonna lose your lunch. Now imagine that sweaty nausea in front of tens of thousands of screaming fans. Because that’s exactly what happened to Blink-182 guitarist/singer Tom DeLonge earlier this week during a show in Paraguay when he suffered heat stroke mid-show.

“This was about 1 min before heat stroke hit. Fell to my knees, everything went blurry, then wobbled to the side of the stage and vomited for a bit. Super fun,” DeLonge wrote on Instagram on Thursday (March 21) alongside a picture of him from behind on stage with his head hanging down.

@markhoppus and @travisbarker made up for the lost time,” he said of his bandmates jumping in to cover for him during the show at Parque Olimpico in Luque, Paraguay on Tuesday. “man, this was not something I’ve ever felt before. 95 Degrees at a 11pm on stage. But… I made it back and finished the show. Cause that’s what Navy Seals do…”

Trending on Billboard

Fan video of the incident shows DeLonge hunched over near the side of the stage as the band was working through the 11th song in the set, “More Than You Know,” before taking leave. Hoppus indeed killed some time to “keep the show rolling,” asking Barker to “go apes–t” on the drums with a solo to stretch things out. Within a few minutes, DeLonge was back and the band busted into a blistering “Happy Holidays, You Bastard” as fast as possible, then even faster. The band then ripped through another 16 songs before winding the show down.

The trio’s next show is tonight (March 22) at Lollapalooza Brazil, before they move on to a run of gigs in Mexico, returning to the U.S. on June 30 for a show at the Kia Center in Orlando.

Eternal Sunshine (via Universal) last week became Grande’s fifth No. 1 when it bowed at No. 1 on the ARIA Chart.

On the latest tally, published Friday, March 22, Grande’s seventh studio album leads a trio of Taylor Swift titles, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), Lover and Folklore (all via Universal), respectively.

Trending on Billboard

The top debut on the latest frame belongs to Peter Garrett, frontman with ARIA Hall of Fame inducted rock legends Midnight Oil, who checks in at No. 17 with his second solo album, The True North (Sony). Its predecessor, A Version Of Now, peaked at No. 3 in 2016. As frontman with the Oils, as they’re affectionately known in these parts, Garrett landed seven No. 1 albums, from Red Sails In The Sunset in 1984 to Resist in 2022.

Further down the list, Justin Timberlake drops in with his sixth album, Everything I Thought I Was (RCA/Sony), new No. 23. All of JT’s five previous albums reached the top 10 in Australia, with FutureSex/LoveSounds logging one week at No. 1 in 2006 and The 20/20 Experience leading the chart for two weeks in 2013, ARIA reports. EITIW is the followup to 2018’s Man Of The Woods, which peaked at No. 2.

Also making a top 40 appearance is U.S. country star Kacey Musgraves with Deeper Well (Mercury/Universal). It’s new at No. 26. Deeper Well is her fifth non-seasonal studio album, four of which have charted here, with her most LP, 2021’s Star-Crossed, becoming her first top 10 album in Australia, with a No. 9 peak.

Meanwhile, Benson Boone enters a third week at No. 1 on the ARIA Singles Chart with “Beautiful Things” (Warner) ahead of Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine cut “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)” and Djo’s “End Of Beginning” (AWAL).

The top new release belongs to Dasha, as her independently-released viral track “Austin” opens its account at No. 23. Based in Nashville, via San Luis Obispo, Calif., Dasha is behind a line-dance trend that has turned the song into a U.S. country — and now ARIA Chart — hit.

Finally, “Fri(end)s” (BigHit/Universal) by BTS’s V (real name: Kim Tae-hyung) cracks the ARIA Top 50 at No. 49. With that effort, he becomes the fourth member of BTS to enjoy a solo hit in Australia, following Jimin, Jin and Jung Kook.

Watch Sinead O’Connor’s Daughter Roisin Waters Sing ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’

Roisin Waters has delivered a musical tribute to her mom Sinead O’Connor, with a performance of the late artist’s signature song, “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

The emotional moment happened during a tribute concert on Wednesday (March 20) for O’Connor and fellow Irish artist Shane MacGowan at Carnegie Hall in New York City.

In fan-filmed footage from the show, Waters, barefoot and wearing a flowery dress, encourages the audience to sing along with the global smash. Waters joined a starring lineup of performers at the “St. Paddy’s Celebration,” which included Billy Bragg, David Gray, Amanda Palmer, Glen Hansard, Cat Power, Dropkick Murphys and more.

“Oh man…I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house,” writes Palmer, sharing her own angle of the performance on social media. “Every other performer was crammed side of stage to watch this bittersweet majesty unfold. And my god, could you feel the power of musical alchemy in the hall last night. The soaring sharp needle of sung and played notes that tear us asunder and stitch us back together. The way it isn’t about any one thing. The way music can communicate more than mere words ever can.”

Composed and originally recorded by Prince, “Nothing Compares 2 U” gave O’Connor a career defining hit, the type few artists come close to matching.

The single and its enthralling, multiple award-winning music video dominated the airwaves for months following its release at the start of the 1990s, logging four weeks at No. 1 in the U.S. and U.K. and eight weeks in Australia. The single returned to charts everywhere following her death July 26, 2023, at age 56. MacGowan of the Pogues died Nov. 30, 2023 at the age of 65.

O’Connor, the powerhouse, iconoclastic artist, is nominated for the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame class of 2024, recognition for her influence, the “indelible mark” she left “on the soul of popular music,” and her activism which, the Rock Hall notes was “ahead of her time expressing her unrepentant rage and sorrow over then-taboo subjects like women’s rights, organized religion, child abuse, and oppression.”

The singer-songwriter debuted with The Lion and the Cobra in 1987 and released 10 studio albums over the course of her lifetime. Her sophomore LP, 1990’s I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got spent six weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The collection featured “Nothing Compares 2 U,” and “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” her only other Billboard Hot 100 hit (peaking at No. 60).

O’Connor, struggled with mental illness throughout her life, including PTSD, depression and suicidal tendencies. In 2022, her 17-year-old son Shane died by apparent suicide. O’Connor is survived by three children, including Waters, aged 28.

Tyla Drops Self-Titled Debut Album: Stream It Now

Tyla finally delivered her self-titled debut studio album Friday (March 22) via FAX and Epic Records.

The 14-track project includes her breakout hit “Water,” its Travis Scott remix that just got a music video, and more collaborations with fellow South African DJ/producer Kelvin Momo (“Intro”), Tems (“No. 1”), Gunna and Skillibeng (“Jump”) and Becky G (“On My Body”). Tyla also features previously released tracks “Truth or Dare,” “On and On” and “Butterflies” — which had been bundled as a Tyla EP at the end of 2023 — as well as her 2022 single “To Last.” She also gave BLACKPINK‘s Lisa the “first listen” of the 10th track, “A.R.T.”

Tyla’s lead single “Water” reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the inaugural Grammy award for best African music performance this year. The singer was also featured on Billboard‘s 2024 R&B/Hip-Hop Artists to Watch list.

The 22-year-old South African popiano singer had been gearing up to take her eponymous debut album all over the world with her first headlining tour starting March 21, but she had to push back those dates and cancel her Coachella performance because of “an injury that has tragically worsened.”

“I am absolutely heartbroken to have to say this but as of right now I won’t be able to proceed with the tour,” she wrote in an Instagram letter earlier this month addressed to her fanbase, the Tygers. “In consulting with medical professionals it’s become increasingly clear that continuing any festival or tour dates would jeopardize my long-term health and safety.”

BandLab Hits 100 Million Users: Report

BandLab, the free social music creation platform, now reaches 100 million users.

There’s not trumpet-blowing for the mobile app’s major milestone. The news is shared by way of a report written by Bloomberg’s Ashley Carman, who caught up with BandLab’s Singapore-based CEO Meng Ru Kuok for a chat on growth and its future.

The U.S. accounts for around 30% of BandLab’s users, he said, and is its largest market.

“It’s funny when you get to these large milestones, especially something like 100 million, which is slightly hard to fathom in terms of the scale of the number,” he tells the news title. “It was also something that really felt like nothing really special. It sort of crossed, and I think we all realized, like, ‘Oh, that’s great.’ But I think that’s just the result of how fast things have grown.”

Trending on Billboard

Just last year, the platform boasted over 60 million-plus registered users, nearly 40% of whom were women, up from 50 million-plus in 2022.

BandLab’s music-making software includes an arsenal of virtual instruments, as well as the ability to automatically generate multipart vocal harmonies, record, sample and manipulate sound in myriad ways. The service can also distribute music to streaming services, and it incorporates components of a social network: Musicians can create individual profiles, chat with one another, comment on their peers’ releases, solicit advice or break up a song into its component pieces and share those to crowdsource remixes.

A major commercial breakthrough was delivered with d4vd’s “Romantic Homicide,” which the then 17-year-old Houston native created in July 2022 using BandLab. The brooding, guitar-hooked track caught fire on TikTok, d4vd (pronounced “David”) signed to Interscope, the song peaked at No. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100, and he landed on the bill for Coachella 2023.

“Seeing artists go on to major labels and independent labels is a great, great joy and success for us,” Meng continues. “Our relationship with an artist doesn’t end when they progress in the industry.”

BandLab was founded in 2015, and doesn’t receive royalties from music made on its platform. Instead, the company makes money on artist services (which include distribution, livestreaming and BandLab Boost) that allow acts to turn their profiles or postings into ads on the platform to better reach users.

Future & Metro Boomin Drop ‘We Don’t Trust You’ Joint Album: Stream It Now

Future and Metro Boomin finally dropped their long-awaited joint album We Don’t Trust You on Friday (March 22).

We Don’t Trust You plays off Metro’s notorious “If Young Metro don’t trust you, I’m gon’ shoot you” producer tag that Future originally said in their 2015 track “Right Now” with Uncle Murda. Since then, the tag went on to be popularized in tracks like Drake and Future’s “Jumpman” and Ye (formerly known as Kanye West)’s “Father Stretch My Hands Pt. 1.”

The project comes after Metro’s Grammy-nominated Heroes & Villains album — which features Future on four tracks like “Superhero” and “Too Many Nights” — and Future’s I Never Liked You. Both 2022 albums topped the Billboard 200. The producer-rapper duo have made several hits together over the years, like 2016’s “Wicked” and 2017’s “Mask Off,” the latter of which peaked at No. 5 on the Hot 100 and earned a nine-times platinum status in the U.S.

And since Metro Boomin always want some more, he and Future are already preparing to give fans another joint album in just three weeks on April 12.

After their co-headlining stint at Rolling Loud California at Inglewood, Calif.’s Hollywood Park last weekend — where Travis Scott performed the LP’s previously teased “Cinderella” track — Future and Metro will be back at it for Lollapalooza at Chicago, Ill.’s Grant Park this August. Additional headliners include SZATyler, The Creatorblink-182The KillersHozier, Stray Kids, Melanie Martinez and Skrillex.

Shakira Turns Tears Into Diamonds With ‘Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran’: Stream It Now

After seven years, Shakira has unleashed Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (Women No Longer Cry), her first new album since the 2017 Grammy-winning set El Dorado.

Released to all digital streaming platforms on Friday (March 22), this new album is a catharsis for the Colombian hitmaker, who is vulnerable and raw in what could be described as her most personal LP to date. Coming from massive hits such as her Bizarrap-produced music session and the girl-anthem “TQG” with Karol G, Shakira takes fans on a healing journey with songs including “Última,” “Cómo Dónde y Cuándo” and “La Fuerte,” another team up with Bizarrap.

The set includes collaborations with other artists, such as Rauw Alejandro (“Cohete”), Cardi B (“Puntería”) and Grupo Frontera (“(Entre Parentésis)”). Previously released songs that are also part of the album are “Copa Vacía” with Manuel Turizo, “Monotonía” with Ozuna, “El Jefe” with Fuerza Regida and the sweet “Acróstico” with her sons Milan and Sasha.

“Making this body of work has been an alchemical process,” Shakira previously said in a statement. “While writing each song, I was rebuilding myself. While singing them, my tears transformed into diamonds, and my vulnerability into strength.”

Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran follows El Dorado, which spent five weeks at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top Latin Albums chart. Overall, the hitmaker has placed eight top 10 albums on the Top Latin Albums chart, six of those hit No. 1, including Dónde Están Los Ladrones? (1998), Fijación Oral: Vol. 1 (2005) and Sale El Sol (2010).

Olivia Rodrigo Is Little Miss ‘Obsessed’ in New Music Video Ahead of ‘Guts’ Deluxe: Watch

If there was a contest for girls obsessed with their exes, Olivia Rodrigo would be a shoo-in for the crown. The 21-year-old pop star unveiled the music video for her new single “Obsessed” Thursday night (March 21) — just hours ahead of her Guts deluxe release — featuring the singer as the black sheep in a herd of picture-perfect pageant queens.

In the visual, Rodrigo rocks a black dress, jagged bangs and deep red lipstick, sticking out in a group of debutantes sporting delicate white gowns. While she wears a sash that reads “Miss Right Now,” the other girls boast the titles “Miss Thought She Was the One,” “Miss Also Thought She Was the One,” “Miss 2 Summers Ago” and more.

“I’m so obsessed with your ex/ I know she’s been asleep on my side of your bed,” the former Disney star belts on the punk rock-infused track. “I’m starin’ at her like I wanna get hurt/ And I remember
Every detail you have ever told me, so be careful, baby.”

“Obsessed” will appear on Rodrigo’s upcoming set of Guts deluxe tracks, which arrives at midnight Friday (March 22), as will three other “secret” tracks that appeared on a variety of the musician’s vinyl releases — “Scared of My Guitar,” “Stranger” and “Girl I’ve Always Been.” The expanded version will also feature a new song, “So American,” recorded after Rodrigo’s Billboard 200-topping sophomore album dropped in September last year.

The Grammy winner first confirmed that the Guts deluxe edition was coming at her Chicago Guts World Tour show, where she held up a piece of paper bearing the news during “Get Him Back!” Her backup dancers also held up signs displaying the titles on the extended tracklist.

The expanded version of the 2023 collection features five more songs, including a new one, “So American,” which was recorded after the original album dropped last year. Rodrigo’s Guts, the follow-up to her 2021 debut album Sour, was released in September 2023 and featured her Hot 100 chart-topping lead single, “Vampire.” The album also topped the Billboard 200 albums chart dated September 23, 2023.

“The experience tested my confidence and patience. It taught me some important lessons about songwriting in terms of focusing on your craft rather than just waiting for inspiration to strike,” she told Variety magazine of writing the album. “You can never sit down at the piano and try to write something that everyone will like; that always results in a really bad song. It taught me that I write songs that I want to hear.”
