Watch ‘The Voice’ Singers Deliver a Stunning Bilingual Duet of Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat’s ‘Lucky’

Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat‘s 2008 hit “Lucky” is already the epitome of a love song, but on an upcoming episode of The Voice, two of Dan + Shay‘s team members added an even more romantic layer to the track by making it bilingual.

Madison Curbelo and Kyle Schuesler take the stage to perform the hit in the Battles round, trading off verses on acoustic guitar — with Curbelo performing in Spanish and Schuesler performing in English, before both of them come together to sing a bilingual chorus.

“I believed you,” coach John Legend told Schuesler when he admitted he never performed in Spanish before. “When I’m able to just enjoy and not overthink it, when it’s in my heart and not my head, that’s when I know it’s great and that’s what I felt.”

Chance the Rapper was blown away by the performance, giving a piece of advice to the duo’s coaches, Dan + Shay. “Both of you guys could win the entire competition, and neither of you guys should leave and I think John is going to try and steal Kyle, so if I were Dan + Shay, I would use my Playoff Pass right now,” he said, referring to a once-per-coach pass that allows both contestants to stay in the competition, with one advancing to the Knockout rounds while the other goes straight to the Playoffs.

“Stay out of this! Enough from you,” Legend then shouted at Chance, as his plan was clearly foiled.

It was then time for Dan + Shay to make a decision. “I am so proud of you both. This was definitely the most cohesive performance so far,” Dan Smyers told the duo. “I feel like your individual performances were incredible but together, it was just so locked in. I felt the energy, I felt the magic, I felt the chemistry between the two of you guys when you were singing. When we left rehearsals the other day, Shay and I were like, ‘They both deserve to win this show.’ Just like Chance said, you guys are incredible. This is a tough decision.”

“We didn’t sign up for heartbreak,” Shay Mooney. “Kyle, I feel like you’ve really come out of your shell, even from just the beginning of this. Madison, you are an absolute ray of sunshine. I can’t believe that we’re lucky enough to have you on Team Dan + Shay.”

Check out the full clip above, and find out what Dan + Shay decided to do on the next episode of The Voice, which airs on Monday (March 25) at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Candace Owens Leaves The Daily Wire Following Clash With Ben Shapiro, X Users Spot The Rebrand Jig

Candace Owen’s relationship with The Daily Wire is over, and now X users are connecting the dots and feel she is using Black Press to get back in our good graces.

Per the Daily Mail, edgeless conservative Candace Owens and The Daily Wire are done. Per the website’s reporting, her exit comes after clashing with the company’s co-founder, Ben Shapiro, over the Israel-Hamas conflict.

Co-founder and CEO Jeremy Boreing announced the split with Owens in a post on X, formerly Twitter, simply writing, “Daily Wire and Candace Owens have ended their relationship.”

Owens confirmed her exit by responding, “The rumors are true— I am finally free,” in a post on her X account that also hilariously points her followers to a webpage to “support her work” or “give her a gift.”

The grift never ends with these people.

X Users See The Jig With Candace Owens

Anyway, the news of Owen’s exit from The Daily Wire, which was the home of her now-defunct talk show Candace, Owens has been making her rounds on more traditional Black outlets in what many have been calling a “rebrand.”

Owens has sat down with Joe Budden for a one-on-one interview, much to the chagrin of social media who feel people like Budden lack the skills to sit across from a person like Candace Owens, who has the propensity to push narratives that require pushback and extreme amounts of fact-checking.

Just recently, The Breakfast Club, for whatever reason, brought Owens on their show to spew her nonsense, and yes, like Budden, many feel the Power 105.1 morning show crew lacks the interviewing skills to handle her.

Also, now there are many clips of Owens landing on timelines where people agree with her outrageous talking points.

We here at HipHopWired are not buying what Candace Owens is selling.

In the gallery below, you can see more reactions to Candace Owens trying to rebrand herself.

1. Not here, not ever.

2. Exactly, stay over there Candace

3. Way too much

4. HEard you sis

Watch Céline Dion and Her Teenage Sons Adorably Rock Out to Bon Jovi at NHL Game

Céline Dion was the honorary queen of the ice at the Boston Bruins vs. New York Rangers game Thursday (March 21), where she met with some of the players and enjoyed the day’s proceedings with her twin 13-year-old sons, Nelson and Eddy.

In clips captured by game attendees, Dion — who also shares 23-year-old René-Charles with late husband René Angélil — smiles and flashes a hand heart to the jumbotron as fans at the TD Garden in Boston roar with excitement. In another video, she and her boys, who sport matching Bruins jerseys, jam out to Bon Jovi’s 1986 smash “Livin’ on a Prayer,” the Canadian vocalist showing off her air-guitar moves.

Prior to the game, Dion joined the Bruins back in the locker rooms to read off that day’s lineup — adding her own flair, as any iconic diva would. “Up front, Heinen,” she began, angelically singing left wing Danton Heinen’s last name.

“On defense, you better bite — Grizzy,” she continued, calling defenseman Matt Grzelcyk by his nickname and adding a dramatic pause. “Ooooh.”

The game marks a rare outing for Dion, who was diagnosed with a rare neurological disorder called Stiff-Person Syndrome a couple years ago. Earlier this month, she marked International SPS Day with a post on Instagram, writing, “Trying to overcome this autoimmune disorder has been one of the hardest experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day get back onto the stage and to live as normal of a life as possible.”

She added, “I am deeply grateful for the love and support from my kids, family, team and all of you!”

Prior to the game — which saw the Rangers win 5-2 against the Bruins — Dion made a surprise appearance at the 2024 Grammys, where she presented Taylor Swift with album of the year for Midnights. In January, Amazon announced that a Prime Video documentary chronicling the “My Heart Will Go On” singer’s battle with SPS is in the works.

SiR Breaks Down His Five Favorite Tracks From New ‘Heavy’ LP: ‘It’s Some of My Most Honest Writing’

It’s been five years since SiR launched a full-length album – and the world is a very different place from what it was back in 2019. More importantly, however, SiR is also a different person.

The Inglewood-bred R&B crooner has kept a relatively low profile over the past half-decade, as he took some time to recalibrate his life following a stint in rehab to reach a place of literal and emotional sobriety. In his efforts to get his life back on track, SiR wrote an abundance of poems that eventually evolved into Heavy – a gritty, fearless look at the flaws and vices that threatened to drown him, and the faith and hope that gifted him a second chance.

The songs on Heavy are wholly immersive. Unflinching looks at unsavory past habits (“Ignorant”) stand alongside poignant love letters to the young Black men of the next generation (“Ricky’s Song”), all wrapped in production that gradually transitions from percussive rock-adjacent R&B to ethereal, melodic gospel stylings. SiR describes his new LP as “dark, ugly, [and] honest in a way that I should have never been,” but songs on the record’s back half — like album closer “Brighter” — signal the arrival of hard-earned optimism for the R&B star.

That level of introspection marks a stark tonal and thematic shift from his previous record, but his malleable voice and evocative tone work as undeniable throughlines in his catalog. Heavy transforms the subtly sultry atmospheric haze of its 2019 predecessor Chasing Summer into a grueling inner dialogue performed squarely in front of a mirror. Here, SiR looks to the pasts of the Black men who raised him to conjure up a sense of healing for his present self — and a future devoid of fear for the young Black men coming up after him.

“It’s all a story of love and how we love,” he explains. “I learned so much from my father’s tragedies. He turned them into testimonies for me, and I use them in my everyday life. I just want to do the same thing… it’s a blessing to have guidance. More men, more black men need that type of guidance.”

In the time since Chasing Summer, SiR has put out a slew of acclaimed singles (including 2022’s slinky “Nothing Even Matters”) and picked up his first career Grammy nominations for his “Back to Love” collaboration with Alex Isley and Robert Glasper (best R&B song and best R&B performance). He hasn’t been absent so much as he’s been carefully biding his time – under the steady guidance of TDE CEO Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith – to properly re-enter the music scene and launch the latest entry in a discography that effortlessly embodies contemporary West Coast soul.

With a new era and tour on the horizon, SiR breaks down his five favorite tracks on Heavy – which hits digital streaming platforms today (March 22).

HBO Drops Dueling ‘House Of The Dragon’ Trailers For 2nd Season

When Game of Thrones ended their riveting 8-year run with a lackluster and disappointing final season in 2019, many fans were skeptical of HBO’s planned prequel series, House of the Dragon as we were still salty about how things played out in the original adaptation to George R.R. Martin’s brainchild.

Interestingly enough the series not only surprised critics with an enticing and exciting storyline, but left fans wanting more after it’s debut in 2022, and more we shall get as HBO released it’s first teaser trailer for the second season to their newest hit show.

Picking up where season one left off, the new teaser trailer to House of the Dragon which asks fans to choose a side in the upcoming war between King Aegon’s Green Council and the Black Council which is that of Queen Rhaenyra. Though we have an idea of how this will end given that Game of Thrones takes place hundreds of years later and basically spelled out the events of this feud, we still can’t wait to see it play out before our very eyes as we’ve learned that drama and dragons go pretty well together.

To amp up the upcoming season, HBO dropped a few dueling trailers to get fans to choose a side (black or green) and we just know that if Wesley Snipes was here he’d say “Always bet on Black” but in this case, it’s kind of a tossup.

With that being said, when the hell is HBO gonna give us an update on that Jon Snow spinoff series that we were promised two years ago?? We desperately want to see what the OG King of The North is up to after killing his queen/lover/aunt, Daenerys Targaryen. Just sayin.’

Check out the trailers for House of the Dragon and let us know if you’re as amped as we are about the second season in the comments section below.

Gonna Make You Sweat: Drake Has To Wring Out His Shirt After Show

Drake leaves it all on the stage when he performs on his current Big As the What? tour. Actually, he leaves most of it on the stage, but when he goes back to his dressing room afterwards, he takes some of it with him.

The 6 God provided evidence of the hard work he puts in in a funny video posted on Thursday (March 21) in which he struggles to get a soaked-through white T-shit off and then grimaces while wringing it out as a river of perspiration falls to the floor. The Instagram carousel — which also included images of Drake hanging with tour mate J. Cole, giving the high sign to a framed jersey belonging to fellow Toronto native and Charlotte Hornets shooting guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and performing “Knife Talk” with a teenage fan — features the caption “BIG AS THE SUPER [bowl emoji]” in reference to Drizzy and Cole’s track “First Person Shooter.”

Speaking of the dynamic duo’s Billboard Hot 100-topping “FPS” track, on Friday (March 22) fans got an earful from Kendrick Lamar about that song, and Drizzy, on the track “Like That” from Future and Metro Boomin’s WE DON’T TRUST YOU album. On the song, K-Dot takes direct aim at the pair, rapping “Yeah, get up with me, f–k sneak dissing/ ‘First Person Shooter,’ I hope they came with three switches.”

The aggressive verse — seemingly in response to the “FPS” line, “Love when they argue the hardest MC/ Is it K-Dot? Is it Aubrey? Or me?/We the big three like we started a league — finds Lamar going hard at the suggestion that the trio live on the same level. “Think I won’t drop the location? I still got PTSD/ Motherf–k the Big 3, n—a, it’s just big me,” Lamar growls before taking direct aim at Drake with the lines, “‘Fore all your dogs gettin’ buried, that’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see Pet Sematary“; Drake’s most recent album was 2023’s For All The Dogs

The joint Drake/Cole tour will roll into Sunrise, FL on Saturday (March 23), with the final gig on the run slated for April 16 at the Ball Arena in Denver.

The Black Keys Share How Playing Old 45 RPM Records Inspired New Album ‘Ohio Players’

There’s a good reason listening to The Black Keys’ new album, Ohio Players, is like spending time with a well-curated collection of vintage vinyl singles. Dan Auerbach and Pat Carney spent part of 2023 taking their DJ gig, The Black Keys Record Hang, across North America and Europe, playing 7” vinyl singles in small clubs into the wee hours of the morning.

The discerning taste required to keep the audience engaged proved valuable as the band worked on the songs that would eventually comprise the Nashville-based, Ohio-born band’s 12th studio album. “I think we started to get so picky with the records and we started to do the same when we were in the studio,” Auerbach tells Billboard’s Behind the Setlist podcast. “We didn’t want to make songs that sound like old 45s, but we wanted to have the same spirit.”

The genre- and era-spanning setlists at those Record Hang events, documented by attendees in Spotify playlists, included such earworms as 1967’s “Let It Out (Let It All Hang Out)” by Memphis garage band The Hombres, 1969’s “Love Buzz” by Dutch psychedelic rockers Shocking Blue (it was later covered by Nirvana for its 1989 debut album, Bleach) and 1970’s “Chocolate” by San Antonio funk band Mickey & The Soul Generation.

Trending on Billboard

Gauging the crowd’s reaction to those 45s proved to be valuable market research and helped Auerbach and Carney tighten up their songwriting. From the debut single, the Top Adult Alternative Airplay No. 1 “Beautiful People (Stay High)” or “I Forgot to Be Your Lover,” a cover of the 1968 recording by William Bell, Ohio Players has the efficiency of two-and-a-half minute Motown standards or radio-ready classic rock tracks.

“The way those classic 45s are,” says Carney, “it’s like there’s no wasted space.”

Auerbach and Carney had little room to spare when they wrote “On the Game” with Noel Gallagher (Oasis, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds) in a studio in London barely big enough for a drum kit and a few people. “We were in a circle in this tiny room,” says Auerbach. “That’s the sound you hear on the record. It was amazing watching Noel go through the process of writing and run through all the chords up and down the neck until he finds the one that he hears in his mind is just right. We were just kind of like sitting patiently, you know, letting him do his thing. It was it was really cool to to watch him go through his process.”

Kendrick Lamar Brings Back “Control” Vibes With “Like That” Feature On ‘WE DON’T TRUST YOU’

J.Cole

Kendrick Lamar put the Hip-Hop world on notice after dropping a verse on “Like That” from Future and Metro Boomin‘s new WE DON’T TRUST YOU project. K-Dot revisited his “Control” verse days and restored the feeling after aiming shots at Drake and J. Cole while declaring himself the best among the so-called “Big Three.”

Kendrick Lamar has been spending more time focused on his pgLang brand and assisting the career of his cousin, Baby Keem to great effect. The former TDE standout has often been mentioned in the same tier as Drake and J. Cole, with many thinking the trio would clique up one day and shift the entire ecosystem.

K-Dot put those hopes and dreams to rest on “Like That” and didn’t mince words at all. Some are of the mind that Lamar has taken subliminal shots from Drizzy over the years, in particular, related to their status within the Hip-Hop hierarchy.

From “Like That”:

“Okay, let’s get it up, it’s time for him to prove that he’s a problem/N*ggas clickin’ up, but cannot be legit, no 40 Water, tell ’em/Ah, yeah, huh, yeah, get up with me/F*ck sneak dissin’, first person shooter, I hope they came with three switches/I crash out, like, “F*ck rap,” diss Melle Mel if I had to”

In a bid to distance himself from the pack, Lamar added, “Motherf*ck the big three, n*gga, it’s just big me” which left nothing to the imagination.

This isn’t the first time Kendrick Lamar caused a stir. Back in 2013 on Big Sean’s “Control,” Kung Fu Kenny named names and essentially dared everyone to try his pen and had people not even involved in the jabs responding to the verse. Time will tell if Drake or J. Cole will respond, considering the latter has always represented his connection to Lamar as friendly.

Again, this could also be traced to a perceived beef between Future and Drake, although that hasn’t been confirmed. Further, Metro Boomin has had recent issues with the Canadian superstar that went public, adding to the lore of discord between them all.

On X, formerly Twitter, folks are chiming in about Kendrick Lamar’s jabs toward Drake and J. Cole. Check out the reactions below.
